Welcome to You Should Know Better with Mike C. Nelson, the guy who won't shut up about winning three times on Jeopardy. Welcome to you Should Know Better, the trivia podcast that tests your knowledge and a little bit of your patience. Our goal here is to celebrate the theme of continuing education. We

should always be learning and always be on the prowl to know better. Now we will meet our smart and sexy guests and hear all about what tremendous causes they are playing for, and shortly crown one of them the smartest person in the world for one week. But as right now, let's jump right into some questions and answers with our first of four rounds today, Round one General Knowledge, Our General Knowledge Round Thinking caps on YouTube pencils. Ready, and

away we go. There are eight questions in the General Knowledge round. Here is question number one. Ava du Vernay's latest film Origin is based on what best selling book by Isabelle Wilkerson. I read this book a couple of years ago, one of my favorites. Again. For question number one, Ava du Varnay's latest film Origin is based on what best selling book by Isabelle Wilkerson. For question number one, how are we feeling? Got it? Feeling good? All over it? I hope where the second guessing comes in?

All right? Are you ready for question number two? We were born? Ready, there it is? Here we go Question number two. What eighties rocker gave us the Hits Heartbreaker? Shadows of the Night and Love is a battlefield? For question number two? Name that eighties rocker that gave us the huge Hits Heartbreaker Shadows of the Night and Love is a battlefield for question numero boss good. We have confidence, but nothing backing it up. What is

her name? You've sung this at karaoke many times? Yeah, you can sing the song. You know what she looks like. You've probably had a hairstyle very similar to hers in the eighties. But can you come up with just her last name? Will suffice? If you come up with her last name? For question number two? You got it all right? Here we go Question number three of eight in the general knowledge round in what Midwest state

would you find the Mall of America? That huge mongus Mall of America that has like an ice rink and a roller coaster inside the Mall of America? And what Midwest state would you find that? For question number three, go to recap for question number three, in what Midwest state I'm looking for the state? Where would you find the mall of America? For question number three? Question number four, can you name the two lead actors from the hit

Max show The Last of Us? Can you name the two lead actors in that excellent show that was just on Max recently, The Last of Us from the last year? Can you name the two main actors? Last names will suffice For question number four. If you get one of them right, I might give you a half point. Did you watch the show? Yeah? I watched, like, I think two episodes, maybe three, But I was just like, I'm too dystopian right now to enjoy a dystopian. I

feel like I'm living dystopian, so I don't want any more. Yeah, I don't need any fictional uh dystopia. I was like, when does what time? Does episode two start? Like in real life? Yeah? I get it. A lot of you want to escapism. You're like, I don't want to escape to this. This is this is reality. I don't like this. I got enough of this, all right. Question number five goes like this, cobalt, corn flower, and Egyptian are all shades of

what color? I need you to name the color that have shades. Cobalt, corn flower, and Egyptian are all shades of what color? For question number five, yes, I have to pick one of the two answers that I wrote down right. That's the way the game works. Educated guesses is what the show is all about. We're uneducated guesses. I think I fall into the latter category. Thank you, Ah, All right, here we go. Quest number six, it's a tennis question. Your sports question centers

around the sport of tennis. What female tennis star won her first six Grand Slam Singles finals and would have probably won a lot more, but her career was upended when she was attacked and stabbed by an obsessed Steppie Graft fan in Hamburg, Germany, back in April of nineteen ninety three. Can you name that tennis star. I'll give you her first name, Monica. Do you

remember Monica's last name? Huge tennis star. She won her first six Grand Slam Singles finals and probably would have been at the very top of the heap, but she was attacked and stabbed by an obsessed Steffi Graf fan back in Hamburg, Germany in April of ninety three, Monica, what for question number six? And I can actually I remember that happening, and you've even given

the first name, and I'm just so bizarre. I remember when it happened, like I you know, I watched Sports Center every day pretty much back back then, and yeah, that was just one of the weirdest things. And now you just you find it hard to believe that someone could get that close to someone, yeah, at a stadium and smuggle in a weird knife

and stab someone in the back. As just to say, I remember who was at the Tanya Harding ice skating situation too, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, the guy went in and just like hit her in the knee with a bar and Nancy cagain yeah, oh that's not the answer to this though. Yeah, logically, yes that is true. Yep. But just the little Monica Carigain, you can try that answer. We'll see if it works. Judges, they don't. They don't look happy. Oh no, sorry, judges. Yeah, Monica, whom for a question number six?

Well you just gave it away, Monica whom obviously, Ah, you can try these answers to Neil. It's not going to end up well for you, all right, Are you ready for number seven? Yes, sir. Question number seven your penultimate question in the general knowledge around what does the acronym ATM stand for? And for you dirty birds out there, I don't mean the one that is that you might find on porn hub. What's an ATM actually stand for? For question number seven, I feel like we're old enough

or we may have a shot at this. I think that's kind of why I did the question. I think younger people would have a tough time with this because they've only heard of ATM their whole lives and they didn't know where did that come from? Like, hmmm, absolutely, I'm feeling pretty good too because I'm pretty sure I got that one right and I also know the current lingo, like how in people text and they're write ATM What that means too? Oh my gosh, I'm feeling pretty hip and cool right now?

You're cool? You still got it all right? Here's your final question in the general Knowledge round. This is question number eight. Who was the villain in the cartoon the Smurfs? Who are the Smurfs always battling? And then for a bonus point, can you name that villain's cat? Oh? Baby, you can? Yes, this is your wheelhouse. Oh man, you're taking your to the woodshit, I am, I am going downtown? Oh again? Question number eight? Who is the villain in the cartoon the Smurfs?

And for a bonus point, can you name that villain's cat? All right, pencils down. We will go over your answers in a few moments, but it's time to introduce are terrific guests all the way from Evanston, Illinois, home of the Northwestern Wildcats. This woman is incredible. She worked in higher education for twenty years, focusing on social justice and racial equity.

She started her own consulting company three years ago and is giving given a ton of keynote speeches and trainings, seminars, and she's partners with the likes of Nike, LinkedIn, the Melon Foundation, the Getty Trust, and hundreds of higher education institutions. She's the coolest person I know. My friend Sumi Pendaker is here. I'm glad to be here. Oh my god, it's a

pleasure to have you here. You can follow the Good Doctor on social media at doctor Underscore, Sumi on Instagram, and then if you're on Twitter or x you can follow her at Simoon l Pendicure on the twitters. I'll hold off on the charity because you and your hubby are playing for the same exact charity, So we'll get to that in just one second. But it's time to meet You're much worse half. Hello from Skokey, Illinois, not too far from Evanston, their neighbors. This guy does not stop working. He's

done a ton of voices. He's on the animated show Gee Happy on YouTube, Mister mothmanson on Monster High on Nickelodeon, Kung Lao on the new Mortal Kombat game MK one, Cinnamon on High Fi, Rush Stripes, the Tiger on Blaze and the Monster Machines. And he's been on shows like Grey's Anatomy and Maren and ncis New Orleans and such great films like American They See, Dude, Where's the Party? And fair Game? My brother, my union

brother from a Night of Sir Neil malhotra Ill. Hello, yes, sir, and you can follow soon Neil on social media at that, sue Neil. So let's get to the charity. You guys both picked the same wonderful charity that I love very much and have donated too for many years. Tell

us about it and why you picked it. You go, wow. We picked Doctors without Borders because they're at the forefront of delivering medical care and interventions at some of the most difficult places in the world Sadan, Congo, Palestine, I mean, anywhere that you need a hero. They are there under

incredibly, incredibly awful circumstances in situations. So they have our utmost respect, and they're one hundred percent in donor sort of you know, donor funded, so they need our support more than ever as the world is in such strife. So that's why we picked them. That's right. They've been around for over fifty years, you know, going to places that many other entities can't

or won't or if they go, they go conditionally. And so we really just believe in their mission and all the things that they have been and continue to do in the face of a lot of you know, great physical danger. So there's a lot of respect there. Yeah, and we're if it doesn't matter who wins, So when Sumi wins, I don't have to feel bad, yes, because that is that is the truth here. That's why we're all winners. Because winners, we're happy to give a double donation to

Doctors Without Borders. You know the charity we're playing for today, you know the wonderful guests that are here in attendance. But it's time to get back to the game, get down to brass tacks and go over our answers for the General Knowledge round. There were eight questions in the round. Question one was about Ava DuVernay's latest film called Origin, and it's based on the best selling book by Isabelle Wilkerson. Can you name that book? Doctor, Sumie?

What did you get for number one? Cast cast Sue? Neil, what did you put for number one? Casty? Casty cast or? Because it's spelled with an eaves spelled with an e, it is correct. I put yep Isabelle Wilkerson's follow up to the Warmth of other Sons, which is another incredible book, but it is cast Is that book I was looking for for number one? You guys are one for one sigh of release, no

goose eggs and round one? Question number two? Could you come up with this eighties rockers name that gave us the hits Heartbreakers, Shadows of the Night and Love is a Battlefield? So, Neil, what did you put for number two? I've put down, is it? Linda Ronstad, Linda Ronstack, great guess, Assumi, what did you get for number two? And it's what you said? I can sing these songs. I've watched the music

video. I cannot remember the name for the life for me, I wrote Jill and Jet and I know it's wrong, but I love it yet, Linda Ronstat, those are great educated guests, period. They aren't correct. You're gonna groan when I say it because you know exactly. Oh god, her name that every girl had that short haircut was Pat Bennetta. Oh I could see her love and see her hit me with your best shot. Oh God, fire away. We did not do that right. We did not

get you with our best No doctors, it's okay. So yeah, what a disgrace to doctors without like Benatar question like everybody knows. Yeah, so it is the wonderful Pat Benattar. Question number two, Question number three and what Midwest state would you find the mall of America? Doctor Sumie, what did you get for number three? Minnesota, Minna, Soda Sunil. What did you bet soa? Minnesota and Minnesota? It is the great state of

Minnesota. For question for three, you're back on the trolley. Question number four named the two lead actors from the hit Max show The Last of Us. Suneil, what did you get for number four? So? I got the full name paid Padro Pascal and Bella. I don't know her last name. Oh so Bella bell I just Bella, Bella, Bella, Bella Legosi, Bella Bella bar talk. Nope, isn't her first name Bella. I don't know. We'll see, Summie. What did you put for this answer?

I wrote no because I wrote no? He wrote no. And you can't see this at home, but a sad not a smiley face, but a sad face next to no. She's hilarious. That deserves a splosh. Okay, so I'm gonna give s Neil half a point because he got he got Pedro Pascal for sure is the lead actor in this and his younger counterpart is Bella Ramsey Bella. I think I should get three quarters of a point, right, We're fractions are not my strongung suit, so a half is

about as good as i'll get. Fair Enough, I'll take whatever I can get. Yeah, three courds of my brain will explode as some points and stuff. I don't like it. Question number five. Cobalt, cornflower, and Egyptian are all shades of what color? Sumi? Blue? Blue? Suneil, what did you put fro number blue? They are cobalt, cornflower and Egyptian blue. They are blues. So you got it right. For question number five, it's the color blue. Question number six, can we

remember this tennis star again? She won her first six Grand Slam titles or six Grand Slam Singles finals, and would have probably won a lot more, but her career was up ended when she was attacked and stabbed by an obsessed Stephie Groff fan in Hamburg, Germany, back in April of nineteen ninety three. Her name is Monica what, Suneil? I believe her name is Monica tennis player? Holy shit? What yep? Monica tennis player? Holy shit? What Sumi? Do you agree with that? Monica blank? Monica blank?

This could be another groaner because you've heard this right. She's in the Hall of Fame. She's a wonderful player. Her name was Monica sell Us, Monica getting oldest top. I mean Monica Sells. Everybody knows her name. He knew that? Oh my god? But what's what's crazy about? That is, that's over thirty years ago, that that happened, which is nuts to me. I can barely remember thirty minutes ago. Yeah, that was thirty years ago. Plus that's wild. All right, let's see if

we got this back, maybe our age helped us. For question number seven, what does the acronym ATM stand for Sumi automated teller machine, automated teller machine, Suneil, what did you put same, automated teller machine. The correct answer, though, is automated teller machine. You got it right now. Question number eight, who

is the villain in the cartoon of the Smurfs? And for a bonus a bonus point, can you name the villain's cat? Sue Neil was was trying hard on the shoe. See if you got idea? What did you get? Well? I got gargamel, Okay, okay, And I feel like the other name starts with an as, and I know this is wrong because then I put Smigel Smigel. Good guess twenty years late? Put that one. But you know, we'll see Gargamel and Schmiegel. Sue me, what

did you put gargamele and Asrael? Argamel and Azrael. The correct answer is Gargamel is the villain that's always battling the Smurfs and his cat Asrael Azrael a bone point. Wow, there it is. We are. We are tabulating the scores right now for very fun round one. Here we go. Oh, this is this is how we draw it up. We have su Neil Malhotra with five and a half points and Sumi Pendicur with six. It's six to five and a half after one, baby doll, neck and neck.

Ah, there it is. It is the slimmest of leads for Sumi over her hubby, su Neil. It's six to five and a half after one. As we enter round two of four between you two, it is our pop culture grab bag. Round two, pop culture grab bag. It's a television round today. And more specifically, these are it's a category called numbers in TV show titles. So these are all TV shows that had contained some sort of a number in the title. I'm gonna give you some descriptions.

Some are short, some are longer. Got to give me the title of this television program again. Eight questions in the grab bag. Here's question number one. This is a very short clue. I'm just going to give you two words, Jack Bauer, name that TV show for question number one, Jack Bauer, that's all you get. For question number one, give me that TV show. They look very confident. So I'm moving right on right along. Question number two. All right, this is a deeper cut.

self doubt. It happens a lot sometimes, when like lightning strikes, you're like boom, I'm so glad my brain works. You write it down. You're like, yeah, wait a second, totally am I overconfident? Because that happens sometimes where I'll write something down thinking it's right. When they announced the answer, I'm like, oh my god, that was so wrong. But my confidence was like, nailed it, guys. And you know, it's so rare for It's so rare for me to be over confident. Oh

It is one of my very favorite parts of the show because it happens every show where someone's like really like down on themselves and very like negative, like come on, you know, come on, it's in there, and then it hits and it's the it's the coolest thing to be like, I still got some

some synapses firing up there. Something works, all right. Your final pop culture grab bag question, question number eight goes like this again, we're kicking it a little old school. Lee Majors played the cyborg Steve Austin in the seventy sci fi show Doctor Sumi six million Dollarnaire The six million dollar Man, Suneil, what did you put? So? I put six million dollar man? At first I wrote six billion dollar man, but I was like, they weren't talking

about that in the seventies. But then I was like, six million dollar man. There probably were no billionaires. He didn't allow that on the globe. But the true answer is the six million dollars man. He's an astronaut. He gets into an accident and then they builled half of his body up with electronics and he becomes the six million dollar man. Just those sound effects from those shows was the you guys destroyed the pop culture grab bag one of

the best grab bags we've ever had. The scores. Look at this, this is we had a lead change. We have Sumi with lucky number thirteen and Sue Neil takes a very lead with thirteen and a half. It's thirteen and a half to thirteen and out at halftime. Whoa, it's getting good. It's getting real, folks, Holy smokes. So it is su Neil Melhoacher with a half point lead over his radical wife at halftime. We are playing with Sumi Pendicar. You can follow her on social media at doctor Underscore

Sumi on Instagram and at Simon el Pendicre on Twitter. They're both playing for Doctors Without Borders. You can follow him at that Sue Neil, Holy cow. We're through two, getting ready to enter the third round. Welcome to the Terra Doome. It is the infamous Lightning Round

three, the Lightning Round. Assumi, you are trailing, so you get to go first in this round. You could choose from these headings. Today we're talking about the great Museums of Los Angeles. You could either choose the Getty Lakma or the Broad which is Downtown. Name your poison for your Lightning round question, Nicel Lakma, gonna go Lakma. All right, I'm gonna

say this question twice. I'm gonna say, go, You're gonna have twenty seconds to give me as many answers as possible, So Neil, jot some answers down because I'm gonna come to you with your five second rebuttal straight away. Here is your Lakma lightning round question. Name the nine original members of

the Wu Tang clan. Wu Tang clan had nine original members. Can you name any of the original members of the Wu Tang clan you picked, Lakma, don't look at me twenty seconds on the clock and go ah Rizza odb uh, I mean jumping jack flash like I stop. You got two, You got two out of the nine. You did fine, you got the Rizza and you got old dirty bastard. So you got to the original members

of the Wu Tang clan. So Neil your chance to see if you could steal any in your five second or buttle original members of the Wu Tang clan, and go, mister Wool and mister Tang. That's all I got, Ah. They are unfortunately not members of the Wu Tang clan. This is I believe. I would like to gently push back and say that they are unofficial members members judges will have any look up unofficial members the Wu Tang Clan. Let's go over the ones we didn't get to. You've heard of some

of these. You had the Rizza, but you forgot about the Jizza. There's the Jizza as well as one of the members Method Man, oh my God, Ray Kwan, ghost Face Killer, actually know these. Inspected Deck, You God, and Masta Killer are some of the deeper cuts. But yeah, the Rizza, the Jizza, Method Man, Rayquon, ghost Face Killer, Inspected Deck, you Got, Master Killer, and odb Old Dirty Bastard are the original members of the Woo Tang and now I got the Wu

Tang Clan. Yeah, Pat Benattar and Monica Sellis. They're all like sitting on my shoulder smocking at me. Never forget, never forget us ever again, very angrily. All right, son Neil, it's your turn in the barrel. You can choose from either the getty or the road for your lightning round question. I shall go with the getty. It was the getty, so the broad was kind of a food and drink question that'll just go back

in the hopper for a later game. The getty question goes like this, I'm going to say the question twice, say go forty seconds, give me all the answers, sue me, write some answers down becase I'm gonna come straight to you with your five second rebuttal. Here's your getty lightning round question. I need the top nine most visited websites in the United States from last

year. The most visited websites in the United States in twenty twenty three, twenty seconds on the clock and go Google, Yahoo, Redfin, definitely porn Hub, Like what else would be visited? Oh maybe CNN? I don't know, Oh god, what else? Maybe being not being stop? Stop? You got three, you got number one. Google was number one with a bullet. Number six you were right, porn Hub number six, and number eight was yahhooo. Okay, so there's still some on the board,

assuming your chance to steal some five second rebuttal. Top nine most visited websites in the United States from last year twenty twenty three, five seconds and go Fox News, Zillow, Al Jazeera, CNN, Stop Stop. Great guesses, but none of them were in the top nine. Nobody from America is reading all Maybe Fox News would be one of them. I think we're like the two people that go all but guesses. But I think when you hear some that are on here, like, okay, let's go over the ones

we didn't get to. Number two YouTube? Oh my god? What number three was? Reddit? Reddit and Reddit jumped subreddits. Number four. If you're ordering crap that gets to your house in five seconds, you go to Amazon. Three book, Facebook, we miss Why did I see al Jazeerrae. That's hilarious. I love that you think, so I educated we're going to go to I love it. I love it. I love it. It's the lightning round. Your brain works differently when time is of the essence.

It's a weird thing. Pick Amazon, babe. I went straight to pornhubs so like it garnered you a very big point. Uh. There's one number seven that I didn't hurt. I hadn't heard of, so I had to look it up and it's called Duck Duck Go, and it's kind of like the one I was thinking of. Absolutely, but it is gal Gado for number two. Hey, everybody, I just realize I've been saying gal Gado's name wrong for many years. It's very Americanized gal Gado. That's wrong. We have Sunil Malhotra with thirty and a half points, very impressive score, and we have Summi Pendicer with thirty one point by half point, another comeback in the double duty round and by the slimmest of wins. final throw down, the final throwdown. This is where Annie, our producer, is going to come back here throw up a final throwdown question. I'll read it to the world a couple times, and then we'll have a little discussion here amongst the three of us. We'll reveal the answer and learn a little something something before we say our goodbye. So Annie, I like it. If you are ready, here's your question. Which of the US contiguous

states with four syllables is bordered by zero states with four syllables? Wow? Which of the US contiguous states that has four syllables is bordered by zero? States with four syllables? Oh my gosh, I'm trying to think of states with four syllables. Minnesota is a four syllable states in Sota, California, California. Yes, Califournia. I think California might be five. I think it's four, okay, Pennsylvania and then but then but like because California is

New Mexico co. Yeah, no, so that won't work. Pennsylvania, neither the Carolinas, Mississippi, Mississippy, Florida, Georgia, South. What's above Mississippi Arkansas? Is it Mississippi? That's the answer. Tennessee can too easy, and it might be Mississippi. I think you could be right because let's think of the other one's pencil. What's Minnesota. Well, I don't know how close North Dakota Quota they're all for, so it can't be them

because they border each other, so that wipes them out. California has New Mexico, Arizona, Arizona, Arizona. Arizona kind of nixes California and Arizona knicks each other out. I think you're right. Soon you know Mississippi I think is miss Sippy doesn't Yeah, it's Alabama. Al actually is Alabama. Alabama and Mississippi knock each other out a Calamana because I made a mistake. New Mexico doesn't bordered at California. Arizona does, but Arizona has four Zona.

Oh yeah, yeah, you're right here. This is a great question, but this is going to take six months. We're going to go through all of the states. It is. Is it Pennsylvania because you got New York, you got West virgi No, West Virginia borders Pennsylvania, so those not is Virginia considered three or four Virginia It's gonna be Virginia. Gonna be Indiana because because came up with this. So it's Indiana. You got Olio, Michigan, and what's banana. It's got to be the Hoosiers. That's

what we're going with Indiana. It's Indiana. Annie, reveal our answer and we'll go over the the fun facts here. God we that was a that was a grill. That was a good one. Who who? Who? Hoosiers? It is a great state, Indiana. That's where Suon Neil and I went to school with Annie her husband Ward. Let's learn a little bit about Indiana. Indiana's bordered by Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois. There are fourteen states with four syllables. I think we named it pretty much all of

them. Maine is the only state with one syllable. That would be a good question that would make your kind of head explode. I think if you got that question and California is the only state that pronounces it's ea, ending Nia as a post of Virginia and Pennsylvania's yeah, yeah California. That's interesting. So California is a nod ball there, Nia and not ya Pennsylvania. Uh, Indiana. We did it. Oh my god, you two.
