The mayor of El Paso, Texas has declared a state of emergency as a surge of immigrants cross the southern border. The mayor is quoted as saying that he cannot guarantee the safety of El Paso residents. Law enforcement officers have been overwhelmed by arrivals. On Wednesday, December 21, Title 42 will expire. This policy reduced the number of asylum seekers the U.S. would allow during the COVID pandemic.
