Episode description

As electronic components shrink, heat management becomes more and more of an issue. Unwanted heat in electronics can compromise the performance and shorten product life. Using Infrared Thermography in the design phase of an electronic design has been around for decades. The relationship between heat and electrical resistance makes identifying shorts and faults a straightforward exercise. Being able to visualize heat patterns across devices can validate software-generated thermal models. In many instances, Infrared thermography will naturally evolve from an R&D tool in the development stage to a quality assurance tool in the manufacturing stage. In this episode of the Thermal Review, we discuss how thermal imaging can aid in the development and manufacturing stages of microelectronics.
