Episode description

In this episode of The Joyful SLP, Marisha and Laura discuss the benefits of practicing gratitude. They talk about their experiences developing a gratitude practice, the benefits of having one, and how the research is finally catching up to support the anecdotal evidence.

They also discuss some of the struggles they’ve had with building a gratitude practice, like getting stuck in a negative headspace, what their gratitude practices look like today — in their personal lives, and as SLPs. Marisha shares her perspective on the power of romanticizing the little things in life as a gratitude practice, and Laura gives examples of incorporating gratitude with your students, parents, and teachers.

Marisha and Laura dive into:

  • How gratitude improves your mood, increases positive emotions, and leads to more happiness;
  • How gratitude can reduce stress, improve resilience, and increase connection;
  • The physical health benefits of a gratitude practice, and
  • Ways to practice gratitude in your daily life.

Whether you’re just starting out with a gratitude practice or have been refining one for years, this conversation will help you foster a little more joy in your day-to-day as an SLP.
