Today, I want to share with you a story from the Upanishads. Now, before I get started, I want to give you fair warning. In this particular one, it uses the word God, and particularly uses the word God in the masculine form. I don't want you to get too caught up in those words. You can replace the word God with universal energy or life force, or whatever you prefer to call God. Whether it's masculine or feminine,
it doesn't matter. In fact, in my belief system is kind of one and the same, So you can interchange anytime you hear me say him or he, change it to she or her if it makes you feel better. But listen to the words the message that's trying to get across, because when I first read it, it took me a minute, but when it hit me, it literally almost brought me to tears because it just makes so much sense. It's something that I keep forgetting. So here's how it goes.
What is the cause of the cosmos? From where do we come? Where should we find peace? At last? Where power governs a duality of pleasure and pain by which we are driven time, nature, necessity, accident elements, energy, intelligence. None of these can be the first because they are effects whose only purpose is to help the self rise above pleasure and pain. In the depth of meditation, sages saw within themselves. The Lord of Love dwells in the heart of every creature, deep in the heart of all,
He dwells hidden behind the Law's energy in inertia. He is one. He it is who rules over time, space, and causality. The world is the wheel of God, turning around and around, with all living creatures upon its rim. The world is the river of God, flowing from him and flowing back to Him. On this ever revolving wheel of life. The individual self goes round and round through life after life, believing itself to be a separate creature, until it sees its identity within the Lord of Love and
attains immortality in the indie visible whole. He is the eternal reality and the ground of existence. Those who perceive him in every creature merge in him and are released from the weal of birth and death. The Lord of Love holds in his hand the world, composed of the changing in, the changeless, the manifest, and the unmanifest, and separate self, not yet aware of the Lord, goes after pleasure only to become bound more and more. When
it sees a lord, there comes an end to its bondage. Conscious spirit and unconscious matter both have existed since the dawn of time, with Maya appearing to connect them, misrepresenting joy is outside of us. When all these three are seen as one, the Self reveals his universal form and serves as an instrument of the divine will. All this change in the world are the senses, But changeless is the supreme Lord of Love. Meditate on him, be
absorbed in it him. Wake up from this dream of separateness. No God in all illusions will fall away, no longer identifying yourself with the body. Go beyond birth and death. All your desires will be fulfilled in Him who is one without second. Know him to be enshrined in your heart always. Truly, there's nothing more in life to know. Meditate and realize that this
world is filled with the presence of God. So in essence, what I'm getting from that is that we have forgotten that we are just part of God. And that's where we are stuck in this wheel of birth and death, birth and death and birth and death. And the minute that we become cognizant of the fact that we are one with God. When we wake up to the realization of who we truly are, well, maybe that's when we stop having to keep coming back and learning lessons again and again the wheel of reincarnation.
Maybe we're just doing that until we realize who we are, at which point then we get to stop and be happy with who we are. And that is to say the all. I don't know that just rings in me, touches me, makes me feel something. Do you feel the same? Is this complete poppycock to you?
