Nov 16, 2018•36 min
Episode description
I am having my first boxing fight on 30th November. I have such conflicting thoughts, feelings and emotions about this and thought, what better way to explore this than with a fellow psychologist? It gets quite deep, but I think it is interesting. We cover:
- The physical and emotional elements of my preparation
- Aggression and trying to win
- Shame and spite
- How I argue and acting from anger
- Exploiting weakness
- Staying in control / controlled aggression
- The possible differences between sparring and fighting
- My worries and fears
- Negative experiences providing rich learnings
- The role of "an opponent"
- My imaginings of the fight
- Visualisation
- The function of intense exercise
- How we can need others to grow
- Immediate pride vs long term pride
