But we're live right now. Hey, we're live. Everybody got not Let's go bury everybody to do their job. One eleven, well, calver Deef, Let's go no overthinking, right, Go play some ball, Go play some football. It's an exciting time to be a Buffalo Bill and a fan of the Buffalo Bills. Welcome back, everybody to Week seven of the Sean McDermott Show, presented by Connors and Farrish, your workers camp Attorney, Sean,
thanks again as always for joining us. You're coming off two tough weeks against a couple of the best teams in the National Football League. What's your message to your team after suffering a tough couple of weeks. Yeah, they've been They've been tough weeks. Two very strong football teams, two very strong opponents, and we haven't played our best over the last two weeks. And that's probably probably our
biggest focus right now. Steve is really controlling the pieces we can control and making sure that we're making the adjustments that we need to make as a football team, because certainly we want to play well now, but also as we head into the months of November and December, we want to make sure we're growing and becoming a better football team. You're a different football team than you were in Week one, But how has your team evolved?
I know the Jets have changed, they've got new faces, they've released some players, but how has your team evolved since Week one? Well? I think we've gotten better in some areas, but there's other areas that we haven't gotten better, and quite honestly, in those And listen, no team is perfect. I know out there right now, there's I know there's teams with perfect records, but even those teams, like us, have things that we have to manage and get better at.
That has to be our goal as a coaching staff and as a team. And that's why you coach. I mean, that's that's why they have coaches. They don't just roll the ball out there and say here you go for sixteen games. That's what we're here to do and to do at a high level for our football team. Well, in the last couple of weeks, the schedule has been moved around quite a bit. I mean, this week you seem to be somewhat back on schedule with a Sunday one o'clock game. How does getting back to a normal
routine affect and help or hurt your preparation. Well, it's another short week when you look at it. The last three weeks, we've had people working on us and we're not able to work on them at the same time. And that's that's been a challenge. That said, we're ready to get back on a normal schedule, and we get through this week, we'll be back on a normal schedule for the most part, and I think our players are
looking forward to it. And and and that said again, we you know, we've been now through this short week schedule one week and right back into it the next week. So there is we try to create some sort of normalcy for our players and moving forward, getting them back into that routine. Come this Sunday, we'll be a welcome edition. Okay. So I know that the Chiefs and the Titans are two completely different teams, but they were the first teams
to kind of slow your offense up this year. And what did they do that kind of look similar to each other. Well, and when you look at it, I think if you look at the tape, you'll see that they did some cover two, some split safety looks, and you know when they do that, we have outlets and resources that we can use, and we didn't do enough in those in those compartments or buckets, if you will.
So we've got to be able to run the ball into those looks at times and do some different things in the passing game, and is more on us than it is on them, and so we've got to continue to grow. That's a key area for our football team moving forward. Yeah, Josh, it was way off of his season average statistically in the last two weeks. He only managed one hundred and two twenty two pass one hundred and twenty two passing yards against the Chiefs after two
sixty three against the Titans. You know, let's evaluate. Give me a quick synopsis of how Josh has played, and not just in these last two performances, but the direction of his season. Well through six games, I think he's done some real nice things. He's shown growth, he's shown improvement, he's shown maturity, and in these last two games, I think, you know, we've been challenged at times and he's made
some good throws. We haven't come through for him. He's been affected at times, and there's some throws he wants back and some decisions he wants back. And so I'm confident that Josh Allen will continue to learn through these situations and uh and moments in his career and we'll look back one day and say, hey, you know that was That was a big time pivotal moment for him
and his career. One of the positive things about this last week, you had the Chiefs within reach in the fourth quarter, Josh connected with Beasley to pull the game within one score. Beasley finished with four catches for forty five yards and a touchdown. Give me a quick summary of Cole Beasley's role in this passing game and how important it is. Well, it's huge to our success. Cole is an extremely instinctive player, does a lot of a lot of good things in that slot area and sometimes
outside as well. And just his rapport with Josh and their communication I think is pivotal for our for our offense as we continue to move forward. Coach, I know you probably want to get more out of your running game. You finally got Zack Moss after his toe injury, but neither him or Singletary we're able to get going on the ground against the Chiefs. What's the key to getting
this running game going? Well, it's it's it's some semblance of balance between the two of the running backs upfront, creating a mentality and nasty mental of physical mentality moving people off the lant of scrimmage, and too many times over the last couple of weeks they played on our side of the scrimmage, and we need to do a better job of moving the lanta scrimmage and creating movement. Thanks coach, We'll catch up with you to get your
final thoughts later in the show. Shopping Wood is presented by Saint Bonaventure University, the official education provider of the Buffalo Bills. Hi, everybody, and welcome back to the Sean McDermott Show. In his time. Now for another edition of Chopping Wood, our good friend Eric Woodea. It's been a rough past two games for the Bills against some really quality opponents, but things are looking up. They faced the Jets in Week seven. The Bills offense started the season
on a real high note against the Jets. What do you look for, Brian day Bold to go back to to get the offense back on track. You know, for me, early in the season they were utilizing all of their weapons so well. These last couple of weeks, we've saw a lot of emphasis on kind of forcing the baldus to fond digs at times, and when you have a
play are like digs, it's easy to do that. And also we've seen some quarterback runs, especially against the Chiefs, we got some quarterback driven runs back in the game plan. I think Josh's shoulder might have dictated some of those being out of the game plan. We saw some more of those. So getting back to those utilizing your weapons, and I think the Bills will be just fine. Yeah, let's start by taking a look at some of those design quarterback runs. Let's start with Josh's thirteen yard run
against Kansas City. So on this play, generally out of the pistol formation, when the running back is behind the quarterback in the shotgun formation, you don't get a lot of designed quarterback runs out of this. I thought this was a great play designed by Brian dave Ball because the Chiefs were not thinking. It's a great lead up in the hole by Zach Moss and it's an easy first down against one of the best teams in the NFL. Yeah, they'd used Josh on some design runs in Week one
against the Jets. This next week's opponent. But like this quarterback drawings second and thirteen. This here in Buffalo in week one, Von breaks one off. Yeah, this is another designed quarterback run. And again, when you can add the running back as a blocker on a play with the quarterback running the football, you simply get them outnumbered in the box. If you look here that Jets have six guys in the box. Now they actually exchange, they fire
the nickel and the linebacker leaves in his place. But by using the running back as a league blocker, you're able to account for that. It's a great job by Singletary making a block here on this play, and Josh Allen makes him pay. And one of Josh's best qualities is his ability to run the football. And after the first couple of weeks of the season, we were saying, man, we want to see Josh run the football less. But as you see, if the season goes on, that's such
a big asset for him. I think you need to continue to use him in the run game and utilize his strengths. And if we go back to the Kansas City game, this offense got a little bit more successful once they started going to Cole Beasley. They got him involved. Let's take a look at a twenty two yard or in the fourth quarter. Ole Beasley has a knack for finding soft spots in zone and he does it here perfectly, and he stays alive as Josh maneuvers the pocket. And
he's a quarterback's best friend. And for a young quarterback, Josh in his thirty year in the NFL, he's still a young quarterback. He's still developing. Oftentimes, your safety blanket is your tight end. Well, for the Buffalo Bills, his safety blanket is Cole Beasley, and he needs to continue to find him. Even though you have Stefon Diggs and you have John Brown, big time threats on the outside,
keep using Cole Beasley as you're safety blanket. Yeah, And they come back to him on the following play for a touchdown on a slam route. As windows in the red zone get tighter and tighter, guys like Cole Beasley that a ton of suddenness to him and have some creativity to the route running can be extremely valuable Here. Cole Beasley replaces the blitz with his route, whether it was a play design or something that he does naturally.
Here because of the blitz. Either way, it's extremely well executed. Does a great job of fighting to the end zone at a time of the game where they needed the same time. He fights the end zone and scores on this play. Yeah, you go back to the Jet game. They took a shot to Cole Beasley down on first down in week one and it looked like it was going to be a big play, but it turned into a nice completion. Yeah. When the Bills get their run game going, then these plays really open up in the secondary.
And this is a simple play action play. Cole Beasley's running up the seam and because of the play action, the linebackers are hesitant to give back in their zones and Cole Beasley is able to find the soft spot once again and he's wide open down the field. A little bit better ball, maybe he's still running, but you know what, it's a great job of Josh Allen delivery, understanding that the linebackers weren't back in their zones and that he was going to have an open throw there.
It'll be great to see if this offense can get back on track against New York. Eric, thanks for this. We're gonna see you next week. Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. Steve Patty glab here with this week's game preview. The four and two Buffalo Bills are on the road to face the owen six New York Jets. The Bills have a chance to sweep the Jets with a win for the first time since the twenty fifteenth season. The Jets have had a rough start to the year as
they're still searching for their first win. Their offense ranks thirtieth, averaging two hundred and seventy six point seven total yards per game, while they average a league low twelve and a half points per game. The Jets defense is twentieth, allowing three hundred and seventy eight point eight yards per game and twenty ninth allowing thirty point eight points per game. Quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills are looking to bounce
back after two straight losses. The qb now has the franchise record for most touchdown passes through six weeks with sixteen wide receivers. Stefan Diggs has the third most receiving yards in the NFL with five hundred and fifty five. Their offense has converted fifty six point two percent of their third downs which is the best in the league, and thirty three and a half percent of their plays
result in a first down, which ranks seven. The Bills defense ranks twenty third, allowing three hundred and eighty seven point five total yards a game and twenty first, allowing twenty eight points a game. The Bills leave the series against the Jets with sixty three wins and fifty six losses. Head coach Sean McDermott is four and three against the Jets as the Bills head coach. That's this week's game preview. Steve back to you. Thank you as always, Mattie coach.
You were off to a hot four and no start, then dropped two games in a row. What's the key to bouncing back after a tough stretch like this? Yeah, learning from that. We have to learn from the last two weeks in particular, and then move forward as a football team. We've got to make sure that we remain confident and we continue to grow our fundamentals and techniques and take them an aggressive mindset as we move forward
as a football team in offense, defense and special teams. Well, the meet of the schedule, the division schedule coming up. You beat the Jets twenty seven seventeen in Week one. But what is the biggest challenge when facing a team for the second time in the season like these division games are. Oh, it's hard to beat a team twice
in one season. We're very familiar with them, they're very familiar with us, and you cannot undersk made an opponent any week in the NFL, and we've always approached every week by earning the right to win and respecting every opponent. And that's how we'll start this week, all right, coach, Thanks and good luck this weekend in New York. We'll be back next week to break down the game with the Jets in preview the Week eight matchup with the
New England Patriots. Thanks for watching The Sean McDermott Show presented by Connors and Ferris. We'll see you next week and as always, go bills. Final thoughts.
