Episode description

“Just as I suspected, toxic waste.” This week on THE SCRIPT, we analyze the new Netflix Series, reboot, reimagination, fever dream Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. What a screenwriting mindfuck. What a screenwriting challenge. What story components did creators Michael Showalter and David Wain smartly bring forward from the film to the series and what did they unfortunately leave behind? What is the slight difference in comedic tone that made Wet Hot a comedy cult classic and The State a comedy experiment? How does a director manage the intersection of improv comedy and scripted comedy? Despite our recurring criticism of Streaming Studio Pilots feeling incomplete in terms of writing a spec, we loved this series— independent vision with broad distribution. Oh that cast and Oh those cameos!  #NYCSC #WHAS #Netflix @mshowalter @michaelianblack
