The series was first heard in 1994 and is presented by physicist from Sydney University the late Ian Johnston. The first universities in Renaissance times offered four subjects - arithmetic, geometry astronomy and music and there were strong connections between each. In a surprising, enthralling and personal way, Ian tells the story of the development of culture and our changing idea of our place in the universe.
