Episode description

Celina Caesar-Chavannes served as a Member of Parliament in Ontario, Canada, from 2015-2019. Having recently listened to her book, I was incredibly impressed by Celina’s life story and her level of determination through some major life pivots.

Forced into leaving a job she loved, her book called “Can You Hear Me Now?” helps offer a more in depth look behind the difficult decision. I love this conversation so much, especially because we don’t simply recap what Celina’s new book is about. Instead, Celina offers another side to the stories in the book by sharing the space from which the sharing stemmed from in the first place. There are so many messages in the book that Celina elaborates on in this conversation, including her experience digging deeper into her stories to heal in the process of writing the book while honouring her truth.

Celina talks about her work disrupting narratives and unspoken expectations in our world. She also shares the intention behind normalizing the conversation around mental health in order to amplify the voices of the people that don’t have the privilege to speak out as easily.
