The Roundup Podcast

Roundup Podcastroundup.libsyn.com
The Roundup features Vincent, Gabe and Brian, longtime friends and avid fans of the Big Three in American sports: the NFL, NBA and MLB. We watch sports continuously, listen to podcasts, absorb all the written media we can (sometimes while enjoying a frosty adult beverage) and talk sports every day, and this is where we come to break it all down. Over the course of 500 or so episodes, the show continues to evolve; full disclosure, these days we’ve been pretty NBA heavy, and being Warriors’ fans, there’s a lot of Dub discussion here, but we always cover the NFL wire to wire, throw in some baseball talk from time to time, and hit on the biggest stories from around the sports world as well. So sit back, get the Roundup Podcast queued up, and let’s get rolling…

623: A Couple of NFL Week 7 Barnburners, the Ravens Flex & a Bunch of Injuries/NBA Western Conference Previews - The Roundup Podcast, w/ Your Host, Vincent, & the Guru, Gabe Goldfield

On today’s show, the convergence of my 3 favorite sports is here, at a time of the year I like to call the sports eclipse. The NFL season is coming off of a fantastic Week 7, with some big time matchups that ended up resulting in a few barnburners, as the Lions upset the previously undefeated Vikings in Minnesota and take over 1st place in the NFC North & the Packers make a statement vs the Texans as they come back late for the W. Plus, Washington, Baltimore and KC keep winning, the Jets kee...

622: Week 6 NFL Power Rankings & NBA Eastern Conference Previews - The Roundup Podcast, w/ Your Host, Vincent, & the Guru, Gabe Goldfield

On today’s show, as we enter Week 6 of the NFL season, our sample size is now large enough to start to draw some solid conclusions. For starters, we can safely say that the NFC North is the best division in football, cumulatively with the most points scored, the fewest allowed, the best overall record, the most wins, fewest losses, and all teams with a positive differential, and the worst teams, the Packers and Bears, are a respectable 3-2. We have to start to take the Vikings seriously, given t...

621: NFL Re-Evaluations after Week 4 & NBA Knicks/‘Wolves Blockbuster Trade - The Roundup Podcast, w/ Your Host, Vincent, & the Guru, Gabe Goldfield

On today’s show, 4 weeks into an NFL season that’s been anything but predictable, it’s time to start to readjusting our expectations. The Vikings have played great D and beat some real contenders to sit at 4-0, the Commanders rookie QB has led them to 3-1 and the top of the NFC East, and the Seahawks are better than expected on both sides of the ball and look like a lock for at least a Wild Card. Meanwhile, an injury to Tua has seemingly transformed the Dolphins from a Playoff team to one of the...

620: NFL Week 2 Wild-Style & a Look Ahead at Week 3 - The Roundup Podcast, w/ Your Host, Vincent, & the Guru, Gabe Goldfield

On today’s show, things get messy in NFL Week 2 as upsets abound. Most of our top tier Super Bowl contenders, including the Cowboys, the Lions, the Niners and the Ravens all lose to underdogs, but the Bengals had the dubious distinction of losing to the defending champion Chiefs and Mahomes. But the dog show we got early made for perfect viewing, with the unbalanced 10 early/3 late slate, we got to keep up with all of the upsets on RedZone early, then focus on Bengals/Chiefs late. And now the qu...

619: NFL Week 1 Takeaways & a Look Ahead at Week 2 - The Roundup Podcast, w/ Your Host, Vincent, & the Guru, Gabe Goldfield

On today’s show, football is back! NFL scheduling was a thing of beauty, with potential Playoff matchups all over primetime, as we kicked off with as much excitement you could ask for between the Chiefs and Ravens, a solid Packers/Eagles tilt, OT in Detroit between the Lions and Rams, and a dominant performance by the Niners vs the Jets. Then on Sunday, it was RedZone time, as we watched Josh Allen work his magic, the Bears D looking dominant, Anthony Richardson’s tantalizing potential and more!...

On today’s show, we had two conferences to cover, so we split it up into two separate parts, with episode 617 covering the South, and now here, as we wrap up our NFL season previews out west. Now we get to our defending conference champions, the favorites yet again, but we’ll take a look at what’s changed from last season and how likely a repeat Super Bowl appearance really is. Plus, there’s What to Watch For, with possible Rams, Seahawks and Charger Playoff runs, Kyler Murray, Jim Harbaugh and ...

617: 2024 NFL Season Previews, Part 3 - AFC South/NFC South - The Roundup Podcast, w/ Your Host, Vincent, & the Guru, Gabe Goldfield

On today’s show, as our NFL season previews continue the outlooks shift radically as we head down south. Between the North and the East divisions in both conferences, I counted no fewer than 8 teams with a viable chance to get to the Super Bowl, in the Eagles, the Cowboys, the Bills, the Jets, the Lions, the Packers, the Ravens and the Bengals, but as we look to the 8 teams from AFC and NFC South, outside of the Texans, is there anyone who can realistically make that title run? This has to be wh...

615: Here Comes Football: NFC/AFC East Previews + Team USA ’24 Wrap - The Roundup Podcast, w/ Your Host, Vincent, & the Guru, Gabe Goldfield

On today’s show, we start to shift gears, going from pretty much just talking basketball since the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, back to football, as the 2024 NFL season just sneaks up on us after an extremely active NBA offseason. Sure, Gaber and I both have lots to say about what we saw in Paris, everything from Steph raining 3’s in the medal rounds and giving the world a Nuit-Nuit to close out France; LeBron leading this team at age 39 and taking home a well earned MVP; KD’s ruthless efficiency ...

On today’s show, even tho the NBA Finals ended more than a month and a half ago, the hoops world hasn’t slowed down at all after the end of the season; it’s just been one event after another. The Draft, trades, Free Agency, then Summer League and Team USA Showcases, and now two weeks of Olympics’ hoops that takes us thru the middle of August and seamlessly merges into football season.Throw in watching some WNBA, some MLB, and other Olympics events, and summer on the sports calendar has been down...

On today’s show, despite the season being almost two weeks in our rear view, the NBA hasn’t gone anywhere. We’ve had Bridges’ trade to the Knicks, among other deals of varying significance; the Draft, and why YMMV, we’re gonna try to refrain from deciding the career arcs of players who haven’t set foot on an NBA court yet; and now, Free Agency is underway, and while there haven’t been any mega-deals yet, we’re just waiting for the first Domino to fall. So sit back, it’s the NBA Offseason and we’...

On today’s show, it’s all about perspective, as we reconcile endings with memories and new beginnings. The sports world lost an all-time icon, as Willie Mays passes away at age 93, but the outpouring of appreciation we saw immediately following the announcement was befitting of the legend he was, both on and off the field. RIP #24, I never saw him play but I was always acutely aware of how great he was, and that’s just how incredible the legacy he left behind was. And we bid farewell to another ...

On today’s show, finally, after what seems like forever, we have an NBA Finals game to look forward to, with the championship series starting tomorrow. After more than a month of at least one NBA game on every single night, two quick Conference Finals series of 4-0 Celtics and 4-1 Mavs left us with the awkward absence of NBA hoops for over a week. But it’s given us time to really marinate on the cutthroat dominance we’ve seen from Luka lately, on Jaylen outshining Jayson to win the series MVP, a...

On today’s show, we’re wrapping up the Conference Semifinals and looking ahead to the round of four, and although ymmv on entertainment value, the sheer volume of games has been fantastic. NBA Playoff basketball has kept hoopheads busy, that’s for sure, with 74 games in 33 nights, and 31 nights straight with at least one game, and Playoff hoops at that. But first, it’s a way too late post-mortem on our Golden State Warriors’ season; we’ve been so busy talking about actual Playoff teams that we didn’t get a chance to review the season and look ahead to next year, but rest assured, this will likely be the last Warrior talk til next fall.
