Well what are you waiting for? Let's Rise and Conquer. Hey guys,
and welcome back to the Rise and Conquer Podcasts. I've got a solo app for you today and we're discussing body image and diets, and I guess just the power of being at war with yourself with body image, it's so huge and I really feel like it saturates our kind of current environment, especially with social media, and this kind of is coming from I wrote a caption on my Instagram, I think it was when this episode goes live,
it will be like the week before. And basically I had a whole week off working out and we stopped the Naked Harvest Life workouts just for one week. And I personally am coming off a bit of burnout, so I was just a bit exhausted, needed a week off. Also had some stressful things going off that week, and I thought, the last thing I want to do is put my body through more stress with working out, So
I just had a week off. So after having the week off, I felt so refreshed because, like I said, yeah, coming off a bit of burnout, just not feeling the greatest. And it was also just like a great reminder because that week, like I didn't change my eating, I didn't do anything different except I didn't work out, and when I, you know, was going to work out, I actually took time away would sit in the sun with the dogs
and journal and whatnot. So it was a super like peaceful, RESTful week and it was exactly what I needed because I was super stressed that week. And it was such a good reminder because then when I kind of was like, oh, I've had a good break, I got this like feeling
of like the will of wanting to work out. So I was like, oh, I really feel like, you know, moving my body and I just had that feeling and it was such a good reminder of like when you kind of work with your body and like give it what it needs, it works with you and it feels
really right. And so that's just kind of what I was explaining the caption, and it kind of made me think because I don't know if you guys remember this, but like years and years ago, kind of back when everyone was in like the thin Spow Fitzbo stage, there was a picture of a girl, and she was super real. I can't remember her name, just like an instant model girl.
And there was like the quote on the photo and it was like you don't know how good your body can actually feel or something like that, and I remember the kind of like caption and whatnot was basically like, you know, when you start working out and eating healthy and lose the weight, you feel amazing and you don't know how good it feels and whatnot. And it's funny because at that time when I read the caption, I was like, yeah, that's so true, like when I lost weight,
I felt amazing and all this sort of thing. And then now looking back, it's really funny because I'm like, it's just not true because well, I guess like with the connotation of that photo being linked to working out and having the willpower to keep going and all that sort of thing, and I just think it's a bunch of bullshit because I've realized back in the day, and if you've been listening to this podcast for a while, you know, I have a pass of disordered eating and
over exercising and just basically not being that nice to my body and to myself because of this ideal that I had to look a certain way, I had to be a certain way, and I went to war with my body. And like at the time, like it just felt so normal and it felt like, oh, everyone does this, and I just want to lose a bit of weight, so this is what you need to do. But now, looking back, like it was just like too much. Like I was so like there was no self love, Like
I was really quiet. The things I, you know, used to think in my head and say to myself, it was really quite mean and I would never say them to anyone else. And I had this really high standard of what I expected on myself, and it just was, Yeah,
it was all too much. And it's funny because back then, like I was, you know, eating less, and I was like working out sometimes two times a day and taking this and taking that and doing this and that, and I really don't look too much different to how I do now, And now, like it's just it's not even really a thought like the you know, the week that I didn't work out, It's not like I noticed I put on weight or I lost muscle or anything like that. Like it's just that didn't even occur in my head.
Because I feel like my personal and core belief is when I work with my body and I give it what it needs, it works back with me and it makes me feel refreshed. It makes me feel good. And because I no longer am tied to a certain way I should look or what not, a certain ideal, like I just am so happy in my body and I
just realized that this hasn't been all the case. And I know a lot of people kind of going through the same thing, and I guess and also to be honest, like sometimes I need this remind to myself, like when I had that week off and then how I felt after, I was like, oh, this is actually how it's supposed to feel, Like I should have taken that week off like months ago, if that makes sense. And I think it's also real that like our healthy is just going
to look so much different to everyone else. And the reason why I'm so passionate about this, and this is the big reason why I wrote the Find You're Healthy, a Beginner's Guide to Intuitive Eating ebook which is on my website, which I've chatted about a lot. I did it maybe like a couple of years ago, and I'm just so passionate about it because everyone's healthy is going
to look so different. And I think if you kind of put this pressure on yourself to you know, work out five times a week, or to eat this because this other person is eating this, or do that and stick to the same amount of calories every single day and whatnot, it's what you don't realize is just like how you do your life and how your body is supposed to look and how you're supposed to feel, like,
it's going to be so different for everyone. But what I've kind of realized is when you do find your healthy and you find a way where it just feels effortless and flowy and easy, and you feel super happy in your skin, and you know you like moving and you aren't starving yourself and you're just eating amount of food that fills you up and that tastes good and all that sort of stuff, Like it just feels so right.
And it's funny because I do have my ebook, Find Your Healthy that I released a couple of years ago, and someone actually DMed me the other day and they were like, hey, like, I just found You'll Find your
Healthy ebook. I bought it, I loved it. I'm so excited to start intuitive eating and we're having a chat about that, and then they actually said they were like I was thinking, and it's funny because I've been following you for a while and I didn't even know you had this ebook because you don't really chat about it too much. And I was thinking about that, and I was like, that is funny because I'm super passionate about
intuitive eating. It's healthy living. Like you guys know, I put out a lot of fitness and health content and you know it's an ebook, Like I get money from it. There's no reason why I wouldn't want to chat about it and for people to buy it. But I realized this, and it's because, like I said, like I'm just at a point where eating healthy, eating intuitively and living intuitively, like it just feels so second nature to me, Like
I almost don't have to think about it. I don't sit there and go, oh, how has intuitive eating gone this week or anything like that, Like I just eat and it's been like this for a couple of years. And so I realized, like previously, my whole world revolved around the foods I was eating and the exercise I was doing, and like I remember distinctly working out my law firm and being like, all right, it's eight am. My mid break is going to be at ten am. I'm going to have yogurt and berries. Oh I cannot
wait for this yogan and berries. And then I'd like check the clock every thirty minutes, and then after that morning tare, I'd be like, oh, I have lunch at twelve, I'm going to have it at this time, and I'm
going to have this. It's this amount of calories. And because I was under eating, my body was often looking for food and thinking about food, and especially because I was doing both of them, of over exercising and under eating together, my world very much revolved around what I was eating and when I was eating and how much I was eating, and it it honestly was like a second job, and like, well, not so much a second job,
but it just took up so much capacity. And I talk about this concept a lot of when you diet and when you kind of go against your body, it does take up so much capacity that you could be
using elsewhere. So I talk about a lot. My experience is I was kind of stagnant for the five or four years where I was dieting, and you know, I did my law degree and that was great, but I didn't really progress in too many areas of my life life other than that, because I was so consumed with how I looked and what I was eating compared to when I got out of diet culture and I started
intuitive eating. And you'll even notice like my content less was about that, you know, like I started this podcast, I did the ebook, I did Naked Harvest, and it's almost like I'm like, oh my god, what I wasted so much time for those you know, four or five years. let's get back into the show. But yeah, so I guess I just wanted to touch on this. I feel like I've said this all before, but then I'm like, I felt like I needed the reminder, So maybe you need the reminder. And I guess, you know, there's two
types of people. If you're kind of listening to this and you were me, you know, four or five years ago, when you were kind of stuck in diet culture and it feels almost like you can't see the way out, Like I remember it feeling like this, and I remember thinking, oh my god, like this is how it has to be for the rest of my life because even if I would lose the weight, I could never keep it up, and then the cycle would start and it was just
this huge thing. So if you were there, I guess I just wanted to say that things can feel so much easier, so much better, and you can just feel really amazing in your own body if you kind of shift your focus away from being obsessed with you know, what you're eating and eating more and just nourishing your body and and that sort of thing. And I go through the whole process of ditching diet culture and starting to intuitive eat in my ebook, which I will put
the link if you guys want to check out. It's only twenty five dollars. And then also if you want to go further than that, there's definitely some books. I recommend The Fuck It Diet by Caroline June. I actually did an episode with her, so you can go find that too if you want. And another book is Just Eat It, and I think the author is Laura Thomas. Maybe I'll link I'll get Grace to link that too. So yeah, if you're kind of at that stage, like I guess, that's my sort of recommend chat for you.
But then if you're kind of closer to where I am now, I did want to say, like, it's not an end destination where you're like, oh, I intuitive eat, I intuitively listen to my body. Everything's all great now, Like I said, like I needed that reminder myself, and I think especially because our body's always changing, like you know, hormone wise, and you know, with stress and all that sort of thing, it's not like you know what your
body's like and that's it. You do have to constantly be learning and listening to it and sort of that side of things. So yeah, I guess I just wanted to pop into your feeds today and say, because I know this is going to go out on a Tuesday, you know, if it's the start of the week, and you know, maybe you went out and had some drinks and ate and whatnot on the weekend and you're like, oh, I should be good and I should go on a
diet and all that sort of stuff. Like, honestly, guys, stuff that you were so much bigger than going on a diet to control your weight, Like, just trust me on that this it doesn't need to be as big as you're thinking it needs to be if you were me when I thought it needed to be big. And then also, I think it's realizing that I think my journey with my body and just my relationship with food and my body like changed when I introduced so like
more self love. And so I really think if you were kind of at a stage where you're super harsh on yourself and you're like, you know, calling yourself names, or you're you know, thinking, oh, well, the reason why I look like this is because you know, I eat this, this and this and you almost have like a bit of a negative relationship with yourself. I found that I had a huge change when I started coming from self love and going you know what, like, I'm actually hungry,
so I'm just gonna eat. And you know, just because I don't look like what society says is the beauty standard right now doesn't mean I am less worthy than any other person. And I think that's a big thing to realize, guys, is maybe come back to you know, if you have this fitness goal that you're really going for. And don't get me wrong, like you guys know, I
love health and fitness. I love working out. I have, you know, been through stuff where I've wanted to score a certain weight or I wanted to get Leana for my wedding and all this sort of thing. So I'm not gonna sit here and say, oh, you should never like want to look a certain way or want something different or to challenge yourself. But I think the energy
that you go about things matters so much. So if you've got this new goal or whatnot, and you're coming from a place of negativity because you don't like the way you look, or you think you're disgusting or anything like that, it's just not going to end well. It's kind of like when I talk it and this is like bit left feel, but it kind of popped my head.
It's kind of like when I chat about money mindset, and I'm kind of like, if you don't have a positive money mindset, you know, and you have this mindset that you know money is evil and rich people are greedy and these like negative thoughts towards money, then you're never going to attract money because you don't think it's safe. You have this sort of negative thing to it. And I think it's very much the same with our body
and our relationship with food. If you are coming from a negative place where you're really hush on yourself and you don't like the way you look and all this sort of stuff, like I just don't think it's going to work. But if you're coming from a place where you're like, dude, I'm gonna go for a run because I love myself and I love the way it makes me feel and I'm looking fucking good today. Sorry I
shouldn't swear in the podcast. And it's just like it's so different, and that's like exactly like when I had my week off, Like, yeah, like I was stressed, but it's like I still like I still could have worked out and been okay. But then I was like, you
know what, Georgie, you deserve a week off. You work so bloody hard, you do so many things, you're a badash, you're looking really good, or even if you're not looking good, Like it's like, that's what I say to myself, even when I am bloated on my period and like feeling like shit, I would never look at myself in the mirror and think, oh, Georgia, you're a mess, you're bloated or anything like that. Like I just I don't do
that anymore because it just is not helpful. And when you're coming from a negative place and negative energy, you're not going to get positive results. All right, guys, I'm going off on a bit of a tangent. I am going to wrap it up because this is a little solo short up for you. But I hope, ah, you know, this is maybe what you needed if you were going through the same thing as me, Like if you are like this is just like it's such a hectic time and heavy time, and just make sure you are looking
after yourself. Make sure you're nourishing your body and taking rest, giving your self love and self care, because it just we really need to do it right now and then all the time. But yeah, I love you guys so much. Thank you so much for listening. I hope you enjoyed this episode. Little bit of a PEP talk on your Tuesday.
And yeah, like I said, if you are interested in ditching diet culture and sort of going towards intuitive eating and that sort of side, if you're over the diet cycle and going back and forth and you kind of realize how much time you're wasting with all this sort of thing, then definitely check out my ebook, Find Your Healthy. It's only twenty five dollars. But also, guys, I do
have an exciting announcement coming this week. I definitely will have a podcast out about it next week, but I will kind of be dropping some hints and some links and whatnot this week.
