Episode description

I just got back from a 5 night girls Bali tour! It was amazing & relaxing but the best part was being around 12 like-minded women who were passionate and inspiring! It made me realise how much I crave human connection with my community and how much it lights me up. Today I am chatting how I want to get more of that. Hi, and welcome to the Rise and Conquer Podcast. I'm your host, Georgie Stevenson. I am a lawyer and health coach, social media influencer, wife and dog mum. On the Rise and Conquer Podcast, we dive deep into all things mindset, habits, career, health, relationships and more. This is a podcast for women who want to rise up to be the best version of themselves, who have big dreams in who are willing to put

in the work to get there. I want to bring you the tools and actionable steps to feel confident in yourself, inspired to take bold action, and motivated to conquer your goals. Are you with me, girl friends, Let's rise and conquer. Hi, guys, and welcome back to the Rise and Conquer Podcasts. Today, I'm coming to you with a solo episode all about community. This has kind of come about because I just got back early this morning from all girls retreat in Bali.

It was just five nights. It was so much fun. We fit in so much, but I also feel very relaxed. And I went with one of my best friends, Isabella, and we went with this tour company named the Bali Club, So it was all girls. They plan everything and we kind of just like explored. We went to some day clubs, had a lot of fun, had a lot of cocktails, and it was an intimate group. I think there was probably twelve or fourteen people there, all girls, like I said,

and I just had the best time. It was good because I personally don't like being out of routine for too long, and so it was this really good time where it was only five nights, so it was kind of like a long weekend. And then I'm home now. I don't feel like I was there too long. I don't even feel out of routine. I just feel like I had a really good time and now I'm ready to get back and to everything, which is great. Also, guys,

I'm very much just like winging this episode two. Personally, I love just kind of like real time unplanned podcast episodes, and this trip has just really got me thinking about community and personal connection. I personally, obviously I love social media. It's my job, and I love using it because it's really an incredible tool, obviously for my business, but also for personal reasons for connection. So I love social media. I love being online and all that sort of thing.

But something I did realize from my quick little getaway is how much I crave human connection. So I met these girls on the trip, and they were all kind of just like normal everyday girls. They all had different occupations, they were at different chapters in their lives. Some were younger than me, some were older than me. Some you know, we're just studying. Some were really far in their career. And it was just so interesting. And I really loved

just like chatting and talking to these girls. And I found we were all quite like minded, and it was just really nice. And I think because I do have an online business and I work from home, I obviously, you know, I chat to Mel on the phone and we do have a weekly meeting, but I also don't get a lot of in person connection. And I just realized how much I did crave it, and so I just wanted to come on here and talk to you guys and maybe let you guys think about how do

you want to live in regards to human connection. So at the moment, are you currently living most of your connection online, you know, through texts or Facebook or Instagram, or are you someone who has a lot of in person connection, and like, how does it make you feel? I also realize in this trip that my if you guys don't know the new iPhones or like, I don't know if you update them or something like that, but they tell you how much screen time that you are using,

and so I'm not gonna lie. My screen time is always very high. But again I always, you know, put it down to, oh, I have a business online, you know, in st and social media is kind of my job in a way, and I run a lot of different things online. Ou say, I have Naked Harvest, and I personally with mal sorry not just personally do all the social media and the sort of marketing side of that. I have a lot to do with the back end as well. And then obviously I run the rights and

conquer Instagram myself. I run my own account all by myself, so I have a lot going on. So I always just like didn't even care that my screen time was extremely high, and I just thought, that's my job. It's fine. I have a really healthy relationship with social media and being online, and I definitely do. I don't feel too consumed.

But I noticed that my screen time during this trip was literally a quarter of what it usually was, and I just had so much more in person connection and I just realized how great it made me feel, how relaxed I felt. I was like me and Isabelle just kept laughing the whole time, and we were just talking how much we just love chatting, like like, I'm literally

just a chatterbox. I was probably annoying at some stages, but and I just really loved the energy of being with other girls who were in either not necessarily similar situations but just like minded and I really enjoyed it. And so I was wondering, like, are you someone who craves that in person connection. Are you kind of feeling like a little bit disconnected with how much we live our sort of in person connections online too, or is

like is this just me? And obviously, like I said, this is my job and everything like that, so it's not like I'm not going to be online. But like I said, I just did really crave that connection with like like minded women, really inspiring, funny women. And so while I was in BALI I created a closed Facebook group, and I want to invite you guys to come to

this Facebook group. I named it Rise and Conquer Podcast Community, And so I really wanted to invite you if you were also someone who is craving more connection with like minded women. If you are someone who enjoys this podcast. We talk about so many different things on here, but I think we very much have one resounding purpose where we're all working towards goals, We're interested in different topics. We're really open minded people. That's personally what I think

of my Rise and Conquer community. And I think it would be really fun to have a closed Facebook group, so somewhere very safe, you don't have to worry about people seeing your posts or questions, and somewhere we can go, you know, if it's chatting about the episodes or you just need advice, and you have this group of like minded girls. Are boys, probably mostly girls. I'm ninety nine

percent women, like that's my audience statistics. Yeah, just to like chat and find a community and be with each other. Obviously it's still online, and like I was saying, I definitely prefer that in person, but it's kind of like the next step where we're really finding out people. So I want to invite you guys come and join the Rise and Concor podcast community. Just search Rise and Concor

podcast community. I made the group through the Rise and Concor podcast page and then you'll also see me and Mel like me personally my personal Facebook and Mel as admin and you just have to request you just put in your email address and well only if you you don't actually have to, and we will accept you. And yeah, I just want to create this community of girls that

kind of go that one step further. I know my dms kind of get flooded after I do post episodes, and I have these really amazing conversations with girls, but I often don't get to a lot of them just because I'm so time poor, and so I think it would be really great to have this kind of online community.

And also what I was saying in regards to that in person connection, I've spoken to Mel and we've actually been working on something behind the scenes in regards to creating an event so we can have more in person contact with each other and sort of have that community. Obviously, I don't have anything certain now. It's actually quite difficult, but just I wanted to let you guys know I am working on it. And then also, ever since this trip, I spoke to Mel and I was like, we have

to make this happen. Let's do it. I really am craving that in person connection with you guys, because I know you're my people. I know you're my girls, and yeah, I don't know. I'm feeling very passionate about it, and I want that to be one of this year's goal,

especially with the podcast. I personally, like Mel loves the idea of like a meetup, and she's mentioned it numerous times before, and I've personally squashed that because I don't know, a meetup feels very self consumed, bit narcissistic, and I'm just like, oh, I'm like, just you know, people come

to meet me. No, I don't know that sounds weird, but when we spoke about it and it being an event where people coming in and it's like my podcast crew and women who are into the same things as me, obviously care about the same things, striving to be better humans and open minded humans. Like it really feels good. And I very much run my business in regards to what feels good, and this feels really good, and especially after the retreat, I am just craving that human connection

and just that personal connection with my people. This podcast is brought to you by Naked Harvest Supplements, a female first began all natural supplement brand. It is unique as it will enhance your mood, give you the energy you need to conquer your workout, but without the jitters and crash that usual

Here's a testimonial from a real life customer. Candice says, I stopped taking pre workout six months ago due to the effects it had on my nervous system and the side effects of the added nasties. I first tried the Naked Harvest supplement this morning and

so far I am loving it. It's been four hours and I have not experienced a crash of any kind, and I had so much energy during my workout I cannot wait to continue using it. If you also need some natural energy for your workout but without the crash, try Naked Harvest supplements. The Rise and Conquer listeners get a special discount of fifteen percent off with the code

Now let's get straight back into the episode. To finish off this episode, I just want to talk a little bit about community and kind of my thoughts and feelings around it, because it's very developed over the

time and evolved. I think as you get older, you understand and you appreciate so much more what a community is, how much it affects your life. And so I did, actually, I looked up the definition of a community. I have this like weird thing where like I start thinking about a term and really get into it. I look up the definition. I don't know why, and I just wanted to read it to you guys. So, a community is a group of living things sharing the same environment. They

usually have shared interest. In human communities, people have some of the same beliefs and needs, and this affects the identity of the group and the people in it. And I love this because it's so true who you surround yourself with really affects the person you are. And it's kind of like I I remember the saying I know this saying is more towards business, but like your income

is the average of the five people around you. And I'm not talking about income, but I also believe that like your beliefs, your way of living, your interests are very much similar to your immediate group. And I know sometimes we can have friends and it can feel like a community, but it's not exactly healthy, and it can be quite toxic. And I personally have been in this position quite a few times, and once I sort of

shifted and I almost like rearranged my community. You very much elevate as a person when the people around you are supportive and really good for you. And so I want to chat about what I believe a community should be, what I personally strive in my own life, and I think we just shouldn't underestimate how much a community can really uplift you and evolve you as a person. So the people that I surround myself, I want to be

able to be completely myself. And this is actually something if you have me on social media or even YouTube and then the podcast, you'll notice how much more personal I am on the podcast. It's because I very much feel safe and I feel like the people who go to the extent of listening to this podcast are very much kind of like my people, and I feel very safe and I can feel like I can be very vulnerable, and I love that. That's personally something that I really

look for in a community. I look for being able to participate and share stories. So like, like I said, being comfortable enough to be quite personal with you guys, and very much wanting to be surrounded by people who want to participate, who want to share stories. A big thing on the trip the Bali Retreats, Sorry, was I was just like so open and then everyone else was quite open, and it's just like this really cool environment that I'm all about it, and like, forget the small talk.

I want to go deep straight away. Like that's just the person I am. Probably a little bit too much too us, but I'm going with it. And I want a community where everyone feels very confident, they feel free to speak their mind. A big thing with me and some of my really close personal friends is sometimes we actually don't have the same beliefs and interest but we're very much respectful enough where that person is able to

have that and you know, still speak their mind. And I love challenging my friends like and my community and challenging them, but doing it in a very genuine, respectful way, because we all do have so many different beliefs and how we think, and that's okay. Like I personally would hate to be in a community or in a position where just like everyone agreed with me all the time and just like there was no challenges, there was no

pushing me to think and be my best. And that's something that I really try with this podcast with you guys, girls, guys, girls is very much I think you'll notice in especially in my solo episodes, I usually give you questions to think about, and I talk about like thought provoking stuff because I do want to challenge you, guys. I do want to speak about things sort of outside the realm and get you guys thinking. And it's okay if you don't think the same as me or your friend or

anything like that. But I think it's very healthy to be surrounded by people, whether it's online or in person, with these sorts of things in place. And for me, like community is, like I've said, I've been going on about it, it's just the connection. And I've just realised for me very much in my business, in everything, like that's very much a motivator for me. So that's it, guys, I'm going to wrap up this podcast. It was just

a really quick, short one. Like I said, I was just feeling very passionate about this after Bali trip, and so I literally created the Facebook group like a couple of days ago, and I wanted to get this in your ears and get people on there and start creating that community that I'm craving. And also, like I said, I'm really striving. It's one of my goals this year to do some sort of in person event with the podcast, so you know, keep your eyes and ears out for that.

And yes, thank you so much for listening. Next week, I've got a really exciting interview for you, so I will speak to you then. I hope you have an amazing week. Thank you so much for listening in.
