It's Tuesday night. I am traveling delivering newspapers. Every Tuesday night and every Friday night. We have to deliver the newspapers. I've talked about the robust stops that we have to make, how far we have to travel to deliver these newspapers, and it's a long trek, of course, but it is something that is enjoyable. And as you hear me pass by cars and do that, I've thought it might be fun to record instead of a morning coffee, a late night coffee this time because I'm trying to finish the
delivery stops. There's so much stuff that you see when you're out here. It could be just seeing different wildlife on the sides of the road, or maybe it's see an oddity or two. Every now and then you also will come across. But we have affectionately termed the night people.
Tonight I saw three or four strange night people. Sometimes you know you have to be on your guard, maybe rip the pistol that you're riding around with while you're out delivering, But all in all, it's a peaceful trick where you a lot of times put on music, put on a podcast. Tonight I listened to the Chicago Cubs baseball game. I'm really enjoying these tracks. For a while, myself and Josh Guru Nichols were doing the deliveries together,
but we've since broken it up. And since we've broken up the delivery schedule, we get done a lot quicker. But I still felt like it might be fun for a change too, instead of doing the regular morning coffee. Just talk about writing down these back roads Mississippi, writing down Mississippi highways, because that's the trick. When I was younger, we used to enjoy what we would call joy rides. We jump in a car and we just go great tunes. No said destination. That was the basic rules that made
up the quintessential road trip. I have said destinations on this but it doesn't make it any less of a road trip. It's enjoyable the fact that I am able to have some time alone with my thoughts. This job has been so rewarding. I mean, some of the things that I've gotten to cover, some of the things I've gotten to see and do again. I'm enjoying this job, and this is part of the job, is delivering these papers.
Some of my friends, they think it must be rough and yes, if we are successful and at some point Jim can bring on somebody else deliver the papers, I will gladly hand it off because I do very much enjoy sleep. But at the same time, they'll be there'll be something I miss when that day comes, which again I don't believe it's anywhere close to where that's going to happen. But it is a peaceful break from everyday life, and it got me to thinking maybe everyone else needs
a peaceful break from everyday life. Former editor in Chief Mark Thornton, before he left, he told me that once I got into this delivery job part of the job, that I might find myself enjoying it because the solitude can be very freeing, it can be very nice and relaxing. And he wasn't wrong. It's a nice little diversion from the chaos that can be everyday life, especially everyday life in a newsroom. I'm blessed to be working with probably the best news team around, because I believe Josh and
Kevin or two of the best reporters around. And of course we've got mrph watching over us and helping edit stuff and keep us on track. But Josh and Kevin lindsay. They're really helping me find my groove again after twenty years twenty pl us of years really away from any type of newspaper work. But my goodness, it's been it's been very rewarding. I've gotten to go to the baths, I've gotten to go to multiple ball games, crash sites.
It's just a rewarding job at the moment, and this late night trek to deliver newspapers just part of it. And it's part of it that again might not be the most glamorous part of the job, but it is very much a part of the job, and it is very much something that I find myself enjoying more than
I thought I would. So again, when you pick up your copy of the Laurel Leader Call, when it comes to you in your mailbox where you go to the curb store and purchase it, understand that the news team is actually playing a vital role in making sure that that ends up in your mailbox 'or at a store
where you can go purchase it. These newspapers don't just magically arrive, and if you see a night person out, you know that we've probably already observed them once or twice and of course, I also pray that we don't find those deer that love to skirt the fringe of the roads, because we are hopeful that they never find the front of our vehicles, because that is a distinct possibility every time you go out on a Missipi Highway
or a missip back road. I'm going to keep this one brief, but this has been late night Coffee and I'm your host, Jack Fairchild's and we're a part of the Midnight Ride Network. This show has been brought to you by Pearl River Casino and Resort,
