The world sometimes seems like it's a crazy place, Like we constantly open our eyes to more and more insanity, and we try to figure out what's the next steps that we can take to try to alleviate some of the insanity. We get wrapped up in the red versus Blue fight and we don't pay attention to little things

that could maybe bring a smile to our face. Last week, I was a part of such an event when I saw the local high school in the town that I live in win the South State Championship to earn a spot to go to Pearl, Mississippi to play for the Baseball State Championship. In a minor League Stadium. It was incredible. The crowd was really just engaged in the game, and I think they helped elevate those players on the field.

And the joy on those kids' eyes just seeing the excitement knowing that they've got a chance to play for a championship. It's one of those things that I was happy to witness. And of course I adopted nephew, Cambridge McDaniel is on that team, so that made it that much more special. Later today they'll play Game one in the state championship series. They're a really good team. They're probably the favorite team going into this game. But it's baseball.

We never know what's going to happen in the game of baseball. But one thing's for certain, and one thing that I'm going to take with me to Pearl I'm going to take with me that the fact that I'm getting to watch these kids, some of them who are putting on their high school uniform for the last time, go out there and give it their all. They're working just two wins away. They're working towards the goal they

set many years ago. This school, South Jones has not won a state championship in baseball in forty one years. As a Cubs fan, I can completely understand and relate to long droughts. Forty one years seems like nothing to US Cubs fans, but to these South Jones Braves fans, it's a big deal. Today, we'll see how Game one goes and we'll know if tomorrow night might set the stage for a championship celebration. We'll see. But as I said, this is baseball, and baseball can be one of the

cruelest games on the planet. Baseball can be that sport that punishes you. It's that sport that even when you hit the ball dead solid, perfect, it still ends up in somebody's glove. You throw the best pitch you've ever thrown, and the batter just times it right and crushes it. It's part of why we love baseball so much. It is just such an interesting game, a game that teaches you failure because you're going to fill in the sport

of baseball. There's no way around it. These kids last Wednesday night, sitting on their home field, they got to say. For those seniors, they get to say we won, and not to have a dogpile and watch fireworks in our final game on our home field. So no matter what happens this week in Pearl, those kids have already cemented

a legacy for themselves. Several of them are going to go play at another level, and then there's going to be several more that when they take off that uniform for the final time, after the final game this week, that would be it for their baseball career. Doesn't always seem fair, It doesn't always seem right that at some point you no longer get to play the game you love. For those who are fortunate, they get to play for years,

maybe even make a career out of it. But for most it's going to end sooner rather than later, whether it ends after Little League, or ends after high school or ends after college. At some point, that uniform that you so love to put on, that field that you so love to step out on and just smell the grass and play ball, you're not going to get to any longer. Maybe you'll go into coaching, maybe you'll join a beer softball league, but it's never going to be

the same of what you're experiencing right now. It's never going to be the same experience to what you're experiencing right now. My advice to these young men, these amazing group of athletes there at South Jones here in Ellisville, Mississippi, is enjoy every moment. Play the game like it's the last game you'll ever play. Leave nothing, leave it, leave nothing behind, Take everything with you onto that field and play like champions. Let the other things ring sizes and

discussing discussions of a championship. Let that stuff be discussed another day. You step out on that field and be the best versions of yourselves. We've already seen it, and when we've seen it, we know what you're capable of in those moments. So hopefully this week we'll see a

little bit more and just two more wins. But no matter what, understand, what you guys did last Wednesday night to set off the fireworks and trigger that dog pile celebration has already submitted your life legacy and that is something you should be completely proud of for the rest of your lives.
