095: The Beauty of Pain, Cold Showers and Wild Fires
Episode description
In today's discussion, performance mindset coach, Sean Hansen, shares a deep realization that he had about how people seek to grit or muscle their way through discomfort.
Recently, another wild fire broke out near Sean's home, which prompted a reactionary flare-up of frustration and exasperation. "Haven't we had enough destruction already this year!!" and "We're not even in fire season! There's still snow on the ground, how could we be having yet another wild fire so early in the year?!"
This caused Sean to reflect on a conversation that he had with a client about Sean's cold shower routine. This routine has allowed Sean a daily practice of accepting discomfort, not as an exercise in 'slaying the dragon,' but as a means of practicing awareness and acceptance of what is.
