people are like, Oh, I'm going to win the lotto. Don't, don't think like that. Create the lotto for yourself. And it might take 10, 15, 20, 30 years to get there. But you'll get there as long as you keep working towards that because you only live one life You do not want to get to 80 years old and regret that you didn't try to get what you really wanted

I do so many talks and conversations with people and I consistently see more and more people in the refrigeration industry want to take their career to the next level, but just don't know how. And I think one of the biggest things is their mindset and their belief system that they can. I did a podcast with the CEO of the Articom group.
You know, he's, he's built this massive company and the podcast is going to come out in in a couple of weeks, but he built this massive company just from an idea that he, it came across him, like where he seen this opportunity and he didn't act on it right away. You know, I just thought about it and sat on it for a while and knew there was a.
He knew there was a problem that a solution was needed for. Nobody was doing it. And that's, that's where he started the, how we started the Articom group. And he said it took over almost a full year to land the first. Articom company years of planning, years of work and not giving up.

And that's the same thing that, that I know for all of you that are here day in, day out, you want to kind of have a, not kind of, you need to have a goal. You need something to work towards that you want. Could be, like I said, many times it could be a financial goal. It could be a health goal and you really can do it. Believe in yourself that you can. That's, that's step one
what's that financial goal you want to hit? What's that health goal you want to hit? Where do you want to be? Do you want to be owned in your own company? Do you want to be a high level management inside a company? What courses do you want to take? This is really what you need to work towards to get you to where you want to be in your life and your career.

Define the success for yourself. What does that look like? Does that success look like being the best technical person? Is it the best communicator in your company? Is it the best at finance? Is it helping other people inside your organization? This is, this is what you want to do. You want to sit down and define what is success look like for you and how do you want to get there?
How do you achieve that? Cause it doesn't happen overnight. Everybody's looking for something to, you know, happen overnight. Get rich quick. There's no such thing as that. You see it online for years. I've been seeing it for 10 or 15 years online. All these get rich quick scheme that that stuff's not going to happen.
I've even sit in sessions and you know, people are like, Oh, I'm going to win the lotto. Don't, don't think like that. Create the lotto, create the lotto for yourself. That's it. Develop the plan to get there. It's not going to happen overnight. And it might take 10, 15, 20, 30 years to get there.

But you'll get there as long as you keep working towards that because you only live one life You do not want to get to 80 years old and regret that you didn't try to get what you really wanted And just continue to do The thing that was okay. There's always going to be pivoting points You're going to have multiple careers in your life.
Successful people have multiple careers. It doesn't mean you have to leave the industry. I'm still, I'm on my third career in the refrigeration industry. And I've been in a 20 years. I'm on my third career and I'm sure there's going to be a few more. You got to build this plan. You got to get into those developing that plan on those different goals that you want, career goals. Get in there and start talking to your service manager about this stuff. See if they even get it. They may not, they may not get it. So maybe the wrong person, maybe you got to go to somebody else in the organization, or maybe you got to leave the organization to find a company that is going to have ideas and thoughts.

on how to grow you. I do a lot of talks with CEOs and owners of companies and really what they're looking for is people who want to lead, who want to be a leader. And a lot of you are here are leading yourself. You're here. So if you can lead yourself, how do you lead other people?
This is all learnable skills. It doesn't matter what anyone says. Everyone learned how they do what they're doing. Everything's all about learning, being curious and growing, because as long as you're continuing to learn, always learning, there's going to be some, the next step, that's what you're going to want to move to that next step, whatever it is, whatever it is, and there's going to be lots of challenges along the way.
To that success peak that you're looking for that success, there's going to be challenges. There's going to be hard times, but you know what, you can overcome that. So you're going to have to be resilient. You're going to have to think about the things that, man, what, what's working, what's not working and how to keep going and, you know, a lot of that's going to be staying motivated to keep pushing through, like maybe you're in a position right now that it's not really what you want to do.

But maybe it's going to take another year to, to make that pivot. Maybe make that move because you need to get the knowledge, the skill, the experience to get to that, to that next position, you want to be the best at what you do. You want to be the first, first one there. The last one to leave. And really show up for yourself.
A lot of people are like, I don't like this job. It's okay. I'm really good at it. Are you, you're really good at it? Are you the best at it? That's the question. Are you really good? Are you the best in your whole company? You have 50 people, a hundred people, a thousand people in your company. Are you the best?

Are you the best in your whole company? You have 50 people, a hundred people, a thousand people in your company. Are you the best?
Think about that. Okay. Well, how do you become the best? What do you need to do? Are you the best communicator at your company? Are you ready to, to challenge yourself to be the best? How do you, how do you do that? Okay, let's take a look at your troubleshooting time for an example. So I've done this call on a walk in box.
How long does it, how long does it take? My next call, can I beat that? Or if it's a nice machine or a package unit or an air conditioner or a rack, how do I beat that time? How do I challenge myself to be better? How do I challenge myself to get noticed inside my organization? Cause it doesn't happen overnight.
How do I have better conversations with the customers? You got to think about this challenge yourself you can make happen. You can make habits. So right from the first thing I said is that belief system, believing in yourself is to get you to that next level.
I've been having conversations with a lot of lead technicians lately and service managers. And one of the things is, is that. A lot of the technicians out there, because a lot of you are technicians, are, need validation. You do it right all the time, and I get it all the time in the course.

Trevor, I tried this, and I did it this way, and I did this, and I didn't really know what was wrong, but this is what I did to fix it. Like, that's exactly what you needed to do, and you did it. So getting that confidence in your work is really just doing it. I've seen it and I've talked to people time and time again.
They've done the job a dozen times, fixed it a dozen times, but still feel like they need a validation. Validation could be showing up to the call a little bit quicker. Validation could be making a phone call to just double check with a, a teammate or a service manager. At the end of the day, you're the professional.
Before you make that call, you gotta think about why you're making the phone call. Now, if you don't have a clue what's going on in the job site, and it's 45 minutes in or an hour in, make the phone call. But, a lot of times, the stuff wasn't checked. Like, you don't have enough information. That's, that's the thing when you start to learn all the information that you need and you can decipher it and you can look at it, that is where you can start to find out a lot of the problems and then if that's what you, you know, you really want to be better at troubleshooting, we'll put the work in.

If your success is being the best troubleshooter at your company, put the work in. It's the after hours, it's on the weekends, it's not during your work hours. You may think it is, and a lot of people do think, and somebody uh, in one of the programs emailed me and say like well, I can't put any more work in the company uh, into the course because my company's not paying me for any extra hours.
That's, that's what they said. So I can't, I don't have no more free time to finish the course. I'm like, that has nothing to do with me. If you want to learn and grow, I would suggest you finish the course, but there's, that's the thought set of some people out there is that if I'm not getting paid for every, you know, everything that I do, even if it's to help me grow, then I might as well just give up.

Do you want to be like that? Or do you want to be the person? It doesn't matter if I'm getting paid or not. I know if I learn this, I'm going to take myself to that next level. Or you can just stay where you're at. And that's, that's totally fine. If that's what you want, that's great. Do that. Enjoy it.
But it's always going to take more work to change yourself to get you to that next level. Which should be exciting, which where you should be more curious, continue to crush it out there and go after the things you're looking for. Let's get a conversation going.
