Money comes in, your bank account, grows. And then almost without thinking, you start bracing yourself.
¶ The Anxiety of Success
You tell yourself this is amazing, but underneath it, you're waiting for it to stop. Maybe you've never said it out loud, but you felt it. It's that whisper in the back of your mind, can I really hold this? What if this is temporary? What if it dries up just as fast as it came? And so you tighten your grip, you start micromanaging every penny. You get hyper aware of your spending, feeling the weight of financial decision. Or maybe you do the opposite.
You spend it fast because deep down you don't trust it'll stay. Either way, you're not actually feeling safe in overflow.
¶ Understanding Income PTSD
This is what I call income ptsd. Your body is reacting to abundance like it's a threat, not a gift. Because somewhere in your past you learned that money isn't stable, that success is temporary, that more money equals more pressure. And now every time you level up, your nervous system panics. But here's the truth in it's not money that's inconsistent. It's not success that's fleeting. It's the way your body has been conditioned to respond to overflow.
Every single time money has left your life, your nervous system made a note. See, we knew it wouldn't last. Your nervous system also was in a stressful state while you were spending money. And so you have to confidently rewire your brain and your thoughts in order to become Lance. Call it. Instead of your ideal customer, you need to become your ideal buyer. You need to become the ideal shopper.
You see, you can't attract clients into your world who will spend big money if you don't spend big money. If you don't see the value in investing in yourself, don't expect to have people value investing in you if you're always waiting to have more money before you make a decision or decide that it's the right time. Or you make decisions like you will never get more money again, or you need to hold on to this like money is energy, money is power, money is energy.
Meeting energy frequencies, matching and lining up. Okay, did you ever track the other side of that? Every time money has left, it has also come back. You have always found a way, you have always rebuilt, you have always created more. And I know for you specifically, you were abundant before and you never had to worry.
And this is probably something new for you because you've always had a comfy six figure figure salary before being responsible for your own income, before you started working without a team to delegate to either way, your problem isn't making money, it's feeling safe holding it.
¶ Changing Your Relationship with Money
So how do you change this? I want you to also know and understand that you may feel like, okay, if I hit my 100,000 months and I have all this money and I don't know all things I want to know about investing and holding money yet know and give yourself permission and space to receive money and to take the actions to go and find the people and learn the things you need to know about money and investing. Maybe start exposure therapy and listen to a podcast on money or find a money coach.
I personally listen to a lot of money mindset and I've invested in programs and offers on changing my relationship with money. It's something that I think I'll be working on for the rest of my life because I'll always be making more money and so there's always a new level to learn. The thing I want you to ask yourself right now abd be brutally honest about why are you sitting there waiting for abundance to disappear? Recognize your patterns.
Look back at every time money has increased in your life. What did you do? Did you celebrate and trust it? Or did you start bracing for loss?
¶ Recognizing Abundance and Shifting Perspectives
Awareness is the first shift. Stop living with the expectation you will run out of something and believe that you like the story in the Bible with the olive oil with have a cup that is always in overflow. You will never run dry. You will just continue to have more and more. The reframe I'm finding really helpful in my world right now is that having more money makes my life easier, not harder.
Sometimes you think having more money or a bigger business means I'm going to have to be busier or this might become too stressful or I don't want to burn myself out. You create all this resistance towards earning more money instead of just being open to the experience. Like you're trying to find a map or all the ways around how you can gain access to that or make it happen. But you need to actually be like, okay, cool, I would like to now hit 100k months. This is my desire.
My business model is actually built to support that type of business. I've done all the things and so I'm open to receiving it. If there's another way for me to receive that I'm not currently seeing or a better way, I'm open to receiving that information too. And just move on with your day. Wait to receive feedback from God, from the universe and allow yourself to just trust the fact that you have and always will have inspired thoughts and know what to do next.
If you keep taking action so it literally doesn't even make sense not to just do the things. Rewire your belief system. Start reminding yourself that overflow is your new normal every day. Affirm I am a person who holds abundance effortlessly.
¶ Embracing Abundance: A New Mindset
Write it down. Say it out loud. Let your nervous system hear a different story. Expand your capacity. The more you normalize having money, the safer it feels when more flows in. Don't shrink. Don't stop spending. Don't tighten your grip. Instead, breathe through the discomfort. Treat it like a workout. Your capacity to hold more grows as you practice staying in it without panic. The reason you feel fear isn't because money is going to leave.
It's because your nervous system doesn't trust that you can handle it. So prove it wrong. Show yourself that you can hold more, that you can trust yourself with it. That you don't have to let old patterns define your future. Because you you are someone who holds wealth with ease, and it's time to start acting like it. If this episode hit home, share it, tag me, and let's talk about it.
