• Garry felt like Melbourne were selling their soul – but the only options were to merge, or to get Gutnik in
• 1997 – Gutnik essentially sacks Neil Balme on air (Meloburne radio) – three weeks later Balme was gone
• Garry strong that the president can’t go sacking the coach at half time of a match
• The week after Neil Balme was sacked, Garry played (had missed the season injured) – it was Greg Hutchison’s first game as coach
• Garry had a huge crack in the rooms at a board member that made an off the cuff comment about Garry’s injury payments
