¶ Purposeful Career
This is the Purposeful Career Podcast with Carla Hudson , episode number 173 . I'm Carla Hudson , brand strategist , entrepreneur and life coach , whether you're on the corporate or entrepreneur track , or maybe both , decades of experience has taught me that creating success happens from the inside out .
It's about having the clarity , self-confidence and unstoppable belief to go after and get everything you want . If you'll come with me , I'll show you how Well . Hello , friend , I hope you had an amazing week . Today I want to talk about 10 ways to have a purposeful career . You know I mentioned I guess it was probably a month ago on the podcast .
I was thinking about renaming the business , and I was thinking about that because , as most businesses do , mine has evolved since I conceived of it and launched it several years ago , and I've been doing the podcast since I guess it was January of 2021 .
I can't believe it's been over three years , but in that period of time I've moved from the business being more general and more speaking to kind of everyone at various stages of their career journey to focusing in primarily on midlife and the unique issues that happen to us when we're in our peak earning years and we're dealing with lots of more complicated things
maybe aging parents and children who are leaving the nest , and even our own shifting interest . Sometimes that happens in midlife where , just out of the blue , new things start calling to you , even when you have a career that you absolutely love . It's just a time of life where , if we're not careful , we can get a little stuck .
We can get a little stuck by all the forces that are pushing on us and we can get a little bit I don't know afraid , I think , to open new doors or to maybe allow ourselves to start to experiment a little , or to maybe allow ourselves to start to experiment a little . Experimentation I think sometimes we look at it as the thing for the young .
It isn't , by the way . I think experimentation and a life well lived . I feel like we should always be growing , we should always be pursuing the new things that are calling to us , and I thought about renaming this business several times to focus more in on reinvention or to somehow lean into a name that really speaks more to midlife .
I had a couple of , I think , really great names that I was considering and I've decided not to do it . I've decided to keep the name because I believe in it . I believe that the key to a great life and a purposeful life is to have a purposeful career , and a couple things on that .
Before I dive into the 10 ways I think to have a purposeful career , when I name my business the Purposeful Career , I just want to say , first and foremost , I do not think that your career is the most important thing in life . I'm not going to say , though , that at times , my own career hasn't gotten in the way of the rest of my life .
It has , and that is one of the reasons I wanted to start this business . I've learned a lot of things in my own journey from the beginning of my career to now to the senior executive ranks , when I'm honestly living the life today , career-wise , that I dreamed about .
Actually , it's beyond what I dreamed was possible for me when I was starting , when I was in school . I've talked about it before on the podcast , but I did not come from a life of privilege .
I did not come from a family that was a white collar family that knew how to navigate this world that I'm now living in , and so I've learned a lot along the way , and my whole thing when I started this business was about well , I want to be able to help other people who are either earlier on or maybe people who are just around the same place where I am
, but feeling a little stuck right , because I feel like I have the tools not only from my coaching certification but from my life and from my own career navigation . I am not a person . There's a lot of people starting career-oriented businesses who are very early on themselves . That's totally fine , because there are people just getting out of college .
That might better resonate with someone who's got five or 10 years business experience . But when you get 25 years on , 30 years on , the problems are more complicated and a lot of times you are at your peak earning years and you've got a ton of responsibilities and you still want to pivot right .
So it's like that's very different and it's hard to learn some of that , I think , from someone who's five or 10 years out of school .
So I feel like this business being called the purposeful career is the appropriate thing , because I think a purposeful career enables a purposeful life and I do think that you have the quality of life you have because , in part , of the way that you're spending your professional life right .
So are you earning everything you're worth and does your income match the way you want to live , right ? And if not , let's fix that right . That's part of what I do in my business have your interests change . Did you always love what you do ?
And then you know , slowly but surely , a new voice has awakened inside of you and there's something new that you want to go do . And yet you're not doing it because you have a hard time seeing yourself as someone new . So you're just staying stuck in this place where you've always been , a place that you used to love , and now you don't love it so much .
That starts to bleed in to the rest of your life , and that's really why I named my business . The Purposeful Career is not because I think that your career is the most important thing , but your career pays for your life and if you don't manage yourself appropriately inside of your career , it will bleed in negatively to the rest of your life . Right ?
So I believe that , because the career is the foundation of how we pay for our life and all of the things that we want to do and our retirement and whatever that means to you , and just being able to do things for our family , being able to do things with our friends and loved ones .
The degree to which we can do that depends on our earning power , and your career matters .
I also think honestly for me and my own experience has been that your career is a place where , if you do it right meaning if you do it in a way that aligns with you and you allow yourself to really pursue your passions and interests and you allow yourself to change your mind and get off this path and get onto another one that's now more aligned with where
you want to go from here . I believe that if you're managing that well , I believe that you end up becoming more of who you were always designed to be , and I just don't want to see anyone live into less of who they could be because they're too afraid to pursue something new or to see themselves as someone new , right .
So that's very truncated insight into why I'm going to continue to call my business the Purposeful Career . I feel like , if done well , a purposeful career enables a purposeful life , and that is what I want this to be about . I'm not here to lecture you on . Career is the most important thing , and it's more important than anything else .
It's not , but it pays for the rest of your life and it's more important than anything else ? It's not , but it pays for the rest of your life and most of us , unless we're independently wealthy , have to work and we work to live .
But we want it to be a place where we can actualize and not dread , because that dreading and being out of alignment and feeling stuck and miserable does nothing but suck the joy out of the rest of your life . So , very long story short , I'm keeping the name and I am going to take what was going to be the new name and create a signature course .
So I will be announcing that , probably in about a month , but for now , I want to talk about the things , the 10 things that make a career a purposeful career , and these are things that I teach inside this business .
So if you're listening to any of these things and think , well , that sounds great , but it sounds impossible , or that's not true for me , or whatever , if it sounds like it isn't what you have , but it sounds like it is what you want , I strongly encourage you to join me inside this business in my membership or one of the courses that I have .
So let's start with number one . Number one way to know if you have a purposeful career is that what you do for a living aligns with your interests and your passions and your strengths . So you don't just have a job , you have a job that's aligned with the things that you want .
Now , granted , not every day is going to be an amazing day , but overall , in the course of a month or a year , do you feel charged during your day ? Do you love the things that you're working on or how you spend your time during a day , or does it just suck the life out of you ? Because if it's the latter , then that is going to bleed in .
That's what you take home with you , right ? That's what everyone else in your life gets . Is the leftovers of you after you've spent , you know , eight or nine hours being sucked dry ? That is not a purposeful career or a purposeful life , right ? So we teach people how to understand what they really want and stay in touch with that , because it's going
¶ Career Pivots and Self-Belief
well .
Not for everyone , maybe , but for many people that's going to evolve and change , and I think your job is to stay in touch with that inner voice and to not say no to it , but to you know , move along with that voice and make sure that , as your interests and passions and you know your strengths , evolve and change and you get skilled up and you learn new
things , you get good at new things or whatever that you give yourself permission to shift along with that . That can mean many things . That can mean having the courage to go for the new promotion . It can mean starting a side hustle . It can mean starting a full-time business and pivoting out .
It can mean just changing your career track and moving from one functional area to another . My point is make sure that how you spend your time during your work day aligns with what you really want , and if it doesn't , or it stops doing that or you just notice that emotionally you're starting to dread your day more give yourself permission to change .
And if you don't know how to do that that is one of the many things that I help people with inside this business . Career pivots are a thing and it's important to understand when one is calling to you . So that is number one . Number two that you have the confidence and the self-belief to go after the things that you want .
So this is something that I see so many people not do . They hear of a job opening in their company but they don't pursue it because they tell themselves they're never going to get it anyway . Right , their boss is never going to support them . Or if they approach their boss , their boss might be offended .
Or maybe the recruiter calls and for a moment they feel that spark of interest and , oh , my gosh , this would be amazing . And then they think , oh , but there's 50 reasons why I could never do that . I could never move away from the city that I grew up in , or I could never . My spouse would never go along with me relocating , or us relocating .
There's a thousand ways that we talk ourselves out of it , and underneath that is usually fear . Fear that we can't do it , that we're going to put ourselves out there and get turned down , we won't get the job , we'll be disappointed or embarrassed or whatever . Or even that we might try to do it and we fail because we can't rise at the occasion .
That's usually why we don't pursue the things that we really want to go do . Right Is that we don't have the confidence or self-belief to go after it . So I'm not saying that every time we think about , oh , I should go for that new job or yes , say yes to the recruiter .
I'm not saying that the answer should always be yes , but I'm saying you should always entertain it .
And if you're not , there's a reason why , and it's probably because you don't believe in yourself and maybe you're afraid of failure or you're afraid to have others know that you pursued something and then you don't get it and you're worried about how that'll look to others or whatever you know . And I'm just saying that's not a purposeful career .
That's a career where you're shrinking down and you're playing small , and I just believe that if something sparks you even a little bit , pursue it . You can always say no . You were in the driver's seat .
I have taken many in interview and never got past the first or second one because I was like this isn't for me and I just kindly let people know this isn't anything I'm interested in right now . But thank you so much and that's it . And I move on Right , and it allows you to stay charged and like .
I see it as like going in a store and trying on , you know , maybe , an outfit that you wouldn't typically wear , something in a style that's a bit evolved beyond what you typically see yourself in .
It's kind of fun , right , and that's how I look at it and that's what I encourage my clients to do is give yourself the permission to believe the new things are possible for yourself and the confidence to realize that you know what if I did that new thing , even if I wasn't perfect at it for the first month or the first two quarters or the first two years ,
it doesn't mean I can't become a master of it , because you can . We have the ability to learn new things at any age and at any stage of career , and isn't it more fun to believe that anything is possible for yourself than that you're sort of this is it for you ? Yeah , that's that's . This . Is it for you ?
Yeah , that's that's not a great place to stay , and I feel like a lot of people at midlife start to believe that about themselves , and so one of the big things I help my people with in my business is a mindset and building that confidence and self-belief that they're capable of anything that they dream of . Might be hard , the road might not be easy .
It might take a while to master it . You might feel incredibly awkward or uncomfortable for a while , but on the other side of that is the next level version of you , and every time you do that , you believe in yourself and your abilities more and more and more . And isn't that a better way to live ? It's a more purposeful life , right ? So that's ?
Number two is having the confidence and self-belief to go after the things that you want . Number three and this is a big one , especially for women , but also for some men that your income reflects your true potential and your own expectations .
So , like I said , I don't believe that career is the most important thing in our life , but our career pays for our life , so it's important . We have to pay attention to it , we have to give our career care and feeding and we have to make sure that we're doing the most with it , because we want to maximize our earning power .
That pays for everything else in our life . You know , especially if you're single or if you have children or whatever , like I even think , even if you are in the best marriage ever , think , even if you are in the best marriage ever .
I like to see people , when they can and when their personal situation allows them , to do things from a career perspective that allow them to see their own earning power . There's something very powerful in that . You don't have to work outside the home to do that . This is 2024 .
There are a number of digital businesses that you can run from home and earn way more than you can earn working for a corporation .
Right , I just think a career is a place to become actualized , and isn't it powerful to know that you have the ability to earn enough money to pay for the life that you want not the life that you have , because this is all you can afford but to be able to say , hey , maybe that's where I have been for the first 45 or 50 years of my life .
But what if I wanted to do this ? And what if I wanted to have , in 10 years , a base home here , but an apartment in the city and a cabin in this area , and that I wanted to rotate between them and maybe even rent them out to vacationers or what like ? What are your dreams ?
It's never too late to go for them , but all of that requires earning power , and that requires you to make the most of yourself and the opportunities that you can imagine or they become available to you , to go after those , to learn how to master those , so that your income equals what your aspirations are right .
Too many times , we start to see our income as something that's set , and it's set by our boss or a corporation or industry and we think this is just it . That is not it , I swear . You can do anything you want to do and earn any amount you want to earn .
You can put any results into your result line that you can imagine and then back into how are you going to get there ? Are you going to do it through a side hustle ? Are you going to go back to school and change your career path ? Are you going to take your savings and invest it into a business of your own ?
There are so many ways to do things and in the world of digital business , there are so many businesses you can start that have low startup costs and even , once you get the basics of the business set up , that it can be running while you're still doing your corporate job and it doesn't really bleed into each other . You know they're totally separate .
That's kind of what this is for me . So that's one of the things is that I want people to start thinking of their income as a number they get to pick . No one else gets to pick that for you unless you let them right .
So that's another thing that I teach the businesses how much you're worth in the market based on the things you know and the many ways that you can decide to go after that . So that's number three . Number four this is a big one and this is one that I did not do well for many years . Your workday doesn't overshadow the rest of your life .
Mine did for a very long time and I'm not proud of that . But I'm past that now and I want to help other people get past that , because it is not a fun way to live . You take the vacation . You prioritize taking the vacation , no matter , by the way , what is going on at work . That took me forever to learn .
I was like , oh , I can't do it right now because I got all this stuff coming up . It's like there's always going to be stuff coming up . Right , prioritize fun in your life for you , for the people you love , for the people you care about spending time with , for yourself . Take the vacation . Enjoy the weekend . It doesn't matter .
Monday is coming , no matter what , and Friday happened . Saturday and Sunday are yours . Enjoy them , take them , do something with them that matters to you . That doesn't have anything to do with catching up on work emails or whatever , because I promise you you will never be caught up on work emails Took me a couple of decades to figure that one out too .
So you know , it's a funny thing for those of us who are type A perfectionists . Whatever we can tell ourselves , I just got to get past this thing and then I will make time for my life . No , make time for your life in the middle of the thing . That's it . Prioritize your self-care . If you want to go to the gym , put it on the calendar .
Go to the gym . If you want to find time to move during your workday , pencil in the walk over your lunch hour and find the closest park right . And the last thing do not spend all evening drinking , eating , bin shopping , tv watching . Do not spend all evening escaping from your day .
That's when you know that your workday is overshadowing the rest of your life , and that is not the way to have a purposeful career or purposeful life . You've got to have the self-discipline and the self-command to leave work at work and to leave your home at home , and to let those two things coexist .
So you shift from one to the other , because your personal life's not always going to be perfect . There's always going to be things happening that you can't control and your work life is not going to be perfect . There's always going to be things happening that you can't control . And your work life is not going to be perfect .
There's always going to be things happening you can't control . Find a way to shift gears between the two , and this is one of the big things I help people with . You deserve to have a great life , and you can't have it if you're spending all of your personal time trying to either escape from or manage what's happening in your career .
And you can't just opt out of your career because your career pays for your life .
I try to teach people how to coexist amongst it all , and that is why one of the biggest reasons why I decided to stay with the name because I thought , gosh , it's the purposeful career is like the perfect descriptive name , like it's not about , like your career is more important than everything else , but it pays for everything else , and you have to find a way
to let those two things coexist side by side without detracting one from another . So that's number four . Number five and this
¶ Evolve Your Self-Image for Success
is a big one . Your self image needs to evolve along with you . So this is huge , especially for midlifers . Not so big always . Sometimes it is , but not so big for those at the beginning of their career , because at the beginning of your career you're just trying to figure it all out anyway .
So you're usually trying several new things and you don't really worry about . You , don't even really see yourself , you're not even clear . It's a little fuzzy on what you're capable of .
Anyway , for most people not everyone , but most people I've found but by the time you get to midlife and you've been doing something for a while or maybe you've never really found your place and you're just . You see yourself as this person who's just wandering aimlessly through your career , or you're just . You settled in to a career .
Here's the problem with that . Your identity can get very firmly set and we want your identity to be fluid . We want it to be more like liquid that's how I think of it . You want it to be able to flow seamlessly with your own growth . You do not want to get so set in .
I am this and I've always been this and I could never do that right , because that means that that self-image , being hard set , is going to keep you from trying new things . And on the other side of that spectrum this was the other side of the spectrum was me . I never allowed how I saw myself to stop me from doing something new .
But here's here's the other side of the problem this will resonate with many women , I think is that I got great at pushing through fear and I got great at seeing myself in new ways and imagining what was possible for me and then finding those opportunities . And when that door would even crack open , I would run through it right . Here's the problem .
I never did the work on how I saw myself to make sure that , as I was running into that new opportunity and learning to master it , I never did the self-image work , which is deep , deep work on how you see yourself , to evolve that so that it matched where I was going to .
So I had this as I climbed the ladder was going to , so I had this as I climbed the ladder , that imposter syndrome stuff . Not only did it flare up , it became this raging monster at certain points that just eclipsed everything else in my life at times and that is a miserable way to live .
And I am firmly convinced that the key to overcoming imposter syndrome is self-image work . Your self-image has to stay fluid . If you started at one point and now , five years in , let's say you skip two levels and you're suddenly managing this huge team and your income has doubled , or whatever happens . There's things that happen in your career that are big jumps .
When you experience something like that , you have to go back in and purposefully bring your self-image up to that level , because if you don't , you will fight this ongoing negative inner critic that's telling you you're not good enough , you can't do it , you're gonna fail . The success you've had to date has just been a fluke . It's all an accident .
You didn't deserve it , like I promise you . So your self-image is key and that is why the foundational thing that I teach in my business is self-image . We start there , no matter what someone comes to me with .
If they come to me with I want a new job or I got to change , I got to find a job or I want to start a business , whatever we're talking about , it always starts with their self-image . We start in and then we bring it all to come to pass . So that is the key .
If you have imposter syndrome , if you're saying no to opportunity , if you have this nonstop negative inner critic that's always telling you you're not good enough in any part of your career or life , it is self-image a hundred percent and that is not set . Those things that you're telling yourself are not just true .
We can change it and that's the work we do inside this business . So , five your self-image evolves along with you . Number six , that you have the ability to lead yourself through a down cycle . And , as we all know , if we've been in business for more than five minutes , business comes with bad news , usually delivered by other people the reorg .
The boss that leaves the boss you love , that leaves the person that just got hired , that you don't get along with the downsizing , that you weren't expecting the layoff Can you roll with the layoff and the reorg and the new leadership regime without letting it blow up the rest of your life ? By the way , same thing is there's a corollary to your personal life .
There are a million things that are going to happen in your personal life that you did not cause right and setbacks and roadblocks and problems , and you can't let that blow up your career .
You've got to learn the ability to have the self-regulation emotionally and to master the ability to lead yourself through a down cycle , because no one else is going to do it , and I have done more than my fair share of that in my career .
So that is a lot about inner leadership , it's a lot about mindset and it's a lot about just learning the relationship between the things that you think and the emotions that you feel and how those emotions then cause you to show up in a certain way . That is the foundation of the principles that we teach inside my business .
It is the key to learning self-image stuff . It is the key to learning how to emotionally regulate yourself no matter what blows up in your life Like . That is a big . It's the key to learning confidence and self-belief . It is everything .
So we teach an approach that's based on the cognitive behavioral approach , which is a tenant of psychology , and we don't use that to go back into people's past as much .
We use it to go into their heads and get clear on what's going on inside their mind and cleaning that up and purposefully directing that in a way that allows you to go after and get the things that you're dreaming of right . So the ability to lead yourself through a down cycle is key to having a purposeful career
¶ Self-Empowerment and Career Balance
. Number seven that you don't need anyone else to tell you that you're amazing . This is a big one and it used to be a big one for me and I never was really connected to it , but I wanted reassurance from other people at times not always , but at times and now I just don't need that .
I give that to myself in every way , by the way , and I think this applies to your personal life as well . In every way , by the way , and I think this applies to your personal life as well your spouse is not responsible for making you feel better . Your best friend yes , it's nice to have their support and you want to have their support .
I'm not saying they can tear you down , but I'm just saying they're not responsible for making you feel like you're worthy . That comes from you . You have to believe that you're amazing . You have to believe that you're worthy , and that way it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks . I'm not saying be egotistical or narcissistic .
I'm just saying know your worth and show up that way , and then no one else in your life , your loved ones , don't have the burden of keeping you propped up . It's wonderful to be complimented , it's wonderful for them to love you and to say kind things to you , and that's nice , but you don't want to need it .
You don't want to burden them with that you want to believe that in yourself , be self-sufficient in and of yourself , and when you find that , honestly , that's when you have your true power . So that's that's number seven . On having a purposeful career . Number eight you balance career and personal aspirations .
If someone asked me one time like the purposeful career , would you think you know your ? The career is the most important thing in life . No , I do not . I never have . But a career is a place where you can get lost . You can get lost in it because it does pay for your life . So it's important . It's not the most important thing .
People are the most important thing . And love and you know the things that you know you give back to other people . That's what's , I believe , what life is about . But your career is the place that enables you to have all the things that you want . So it is important , but you can't get lost in it and it's easy to do .
I did for a long , long periods of time for different reasons . But you can escape into your career to avoid things going on in your life .
You can get overly invested in your career and if you don't manage through imposter syndrome correctly , you can give all your attention to it because you're so afraid of losing it that you let everything else in your life go and everyone else gets deprioritized . That is not a purposeful career or a purposeful life .
A purposeful career and life are one where your personal life and interests are just as important and just as prioritized as your career , life and interests . That is very important , that balance . Now you know it is a balance .
Sometimes it'll wait in one area or another , it's hard to get it perfect all the time , but the key is to try to value both of them equally , so that you have the most actualized career to pay for the most actualized life and that one doesn't eclipse the other . So that is number eight .
Number nine is that you recognize and act immediately or quickly or expeditiously when you're in a situation , career-wise , that does not align with your values and beliefs . And , by the way , I would say the same thing in your life . A purposeful life is one where you recognize and act when you're in situations that don't align with your values and beliefs .
Don't stay in a bad situation . There are millions of businesses to work in and if you cannot find one , start your own . It is 2024 . Anything is possible . Anything is possible , I think . Sometimes it's so easy to get sucked into that this is just it for us and it is not .
And I have been in situations I won't name companies but fairly recently was in a company that was honestly amazing . When I was there , the culture was amazing , the people were amazing . It was fully remote before . Fully remote was cool before COVID Like .
They were very evolved and , you know , had their issues , as every business does , but it was a fantastic place . And leaving that place to take the new job that revealed itself to me at the time was really hard .
And do you know that about six or eight months after I left that fabulous place , the CEO retired for everyone unexpectedly , but of course he probably knew it was coming , it was his idea and a new CEO came in and that entire company has blown up , in my opinion , a bad way . Their stock has plummeted down to almost nothing .
Their leadership team , the new CEO , ripped them all out and installed people from where she used to work and , from what I hear , the people that are working there . It's a pretty unsettling , semi-miserable place . So what I'm telling you that is that even the best places go through unexpected and sometimes very abrupt downturns and if that were to happen .
It's very important for you to stay in touch with where are we right now and how do I feel in my workday . And if that is not aligned , if your boss suddenly leaves and you get one that's not aligned with you or that doesn't treat you appropriately or whatever ? Understand what's happening and don't stay fixated on the why it's happening .
Start looking at other possibilities . Doesn't mean you make herky-jerky changes , but just start thinking about it . What do I want to do now If it were to stay this way ? Is this a place I can stay ? And if not , okay now what Do I want ? A different job in the same company ? Do I want to start looking what's available to me in the market ?
Is this the right time to quit and start my business ? Is this the right time to start a side hustle so I could pivot out ? Maybe there are a million opportunities available to you , but what you don't want to do is stay stuck in a situation that doesn't work for you .
Be clear about when a situation is aligned with who you are and what you want and when it's not , and have the courage to change and pivot . When it's not , no matter how long it's been fabulous , don't delude yourself into thinking that something that's probably permanently shifted is ever going to go back to the way it was . You've got to let it go .
That era is now gone and it's time to move on , right ? So that's number nine . And number 10 is that you don't let the things that other people say or do to you impact how you see yourself . So this gets back to self-image work and things like that . But other people's opinions are data points . They're not the truth .
They're their truth , right , and you have the ability to take in the data point , and I would encourage you to do that . I try to always like okay , well , what are they saying to me ? And like and consider the parts of it that have value or that resonate with you , and be honest with yourself . Like , even if it's hard to hear sometimes .
That's where a lot of our growth can come from , but you are the one and how you see yourself . That's what matters , right ? So it's like other people can have their opinions and they do have their opinions , and not everyone is going to like you or believe in you or like the way you approach certain things in your career .
It may just mean that you shouldn't be working together right , because maybe their approach is fine and your approach is fine . Maybe those two approaches just don't go together right . That happens a lot . Or maybe there are seeds of truth in what they're saying to you and there are some areas that you need to evolve . That's great .
Take that in , listen to it and evolve right . But what I'm saying is don't let their negative opinions become part of how you see yourself . That is not good and I've seen it happen .
I've had lots of friends and people that I'm coaching be stuck on things that old bosses have said to them You're just not good at this , you just can't do that , or I don't believe you can do this or whatever , and that just becomes part of their truth .
No , that is just the opinion of one person , someone who probably doesn't know very much , because they don't even as a leader , know how to say things in an appropriate way , right , like , if you're going to lead someone who isn't good at something , your job as a leader is to help get them the education so they gain that skill set .
It's not telling someone they can't do it , it's just not a good leader . But honestly , there are many , many things that get stuck in our head about what we can or can't do or what we are or aren't good at . That came from someone else's opinion and they're just not true . They're just someone else's opinion , it's a data point and you can't let that stick .
So those are 10 ways to have a purposeful career , and there's probably 100 more . I could list , but those are 10 of the biggest ones . These are the things that I help people with inside my business . This is about mindset . This is about inner leadership . This is about having the self-confidence and the self-belief to pursue the new things that call to you .
This is about being strong and sufficient in and of yourself . This is about letting the challenges of the day go as you get in your car to go home or as you walk out of your home office into the rest of the house and have a great rest of your life .
A purposeful career enables a purposeful life , and that is why I'm keeping my name so , and I hope this made sense to you .
