Episode description

About this Episode: Professor of Psychology, and the Founding Director of the Center for Meaning and Purpose at Colorado State University, Michael F. Steger states that purpose is a collection of one or more overarching, very important aspiration or ambition in our lives. Purpose is the ultimate architecture that bridges where we are today to where we dream to be. It is about who we are and how we want to live in the world. To explore our purpose, we can assess our strengths and values, and ask ourselves questions like: “How meaningful is my life?” and “Do I have a clear direction of where my life is going?” As studies suggest, people with purpose have high rates of happiness, well-being, and life satisfaction. They tend to be more responsible, give more of their time and money to charities, have better relationships with their loved ones, are kinder to others, and they live longer. Purpose-driven people tend to be less stressed and can manage anxiety better than others; when they do respond to stress and anxiety, they recover quicker and live happier.
