¶ Three Keys to Success in Life
Three things to work on to get everything you want from life . Hello , my name is Matt Fitzgerald Great to have you joining me here , as always . So there's three simple things . Don't overcomplicate things .
Now , I'm very good at trying to overcomplicate things , so I like to keep things simple , stupid simple , if I can , but there are three areas , three things that you just need to concentrate on in the right manner to achieve any results that you want in life . Do you want to know what they are ? Of course you do , or you wouldn't be with me now , would you ?
So the first one , of course , is the most important . Let's just get that straight and it's your mindset . It all starts and stops with you . You've heard me say that a million times before , if you've ever listened or tuned into the podcast before or anything . But your mindset is everything . You have to get your mindset in check .
You have to get out of your own way , you have to be open to opportunities and you've got to start looking at fear as a good thing . Now , obviously , if you're in a dangerous circumstances , that's not quite the fear I'm on about .
The fear I'm saying is the fear where you push yourself beyond what you thought was possible in your business world or in your family world or in your own personal development . Okay , if you're feeling a bit uncomfortable when you're learning stuff or talking to somebody no-transcript over time so do have faith in yourself and know that you're growing as a person .
I can speak to agents , landlords pretty much anybody now very , very fluently , very , very easily , and I know what I'm talking about . Why ? Because I've been doing this for years now , years and years , and of course , I wasn't like that at the beginning , but I am a lot better at it now . So it's something that you've got to work on .
But your mindset is realistically the thing that will stop you from ever achieving anything in life if you do not change it . So if you have a very negative mindset , just start looking around you right here and now . What am I watching ? Who am I around ? It could be the people that you're around that keep you in a negative mindset .
It could be what you're watching . Maybe you've got a lot of notifications coming through your phone , people texting you , stressing you out . Maybe you've got a stressful job . Maybe you're watching a lot of the news .
Obviously , you've got to understand that the news is basically run and put together by all the big corporations that all have their hidden agendas to have power and to have money .
So they make sure that , whatever happens , they put in front of us the most relevant thing for them Not the most relevant thing for us or your good self , but what's relevant for them . There's wars , there's death , there's destruction everywhere , but you only hear a little snippet of that and then it moves on to the next best thing .
These wars just don't finish overnight . They go on for years . It's tragic . Borders just don't finish overnight . They go on for years . It's tragic . Honestly , it is tragic . But all of a sudden we stop hearing about it so much . It's just like well , that's happened . Now that's not the breaking news anymore . So we need to push something else out there .
So just if you're getting lots of notifications and you're feeling a bit run down , you're feeling a bit below par , switch off those notifications , ok . One of the greatest things I ever actually did on my mobile phone was I made the actual phone itself black and white . So all of the colors , notification colors and all of those things was in black and white .
It wasn't so appealing to look at . In fact , you'd look at your phone less because it just looked plain . So do stuff like that . If you have to keep the notifications on , I turn off all notifications . Now Don't worry about it , but make sure that you're a bit more positive .
If you need a bit of positivity and you're not feeling it , just sit somewhere quietly and breathe for five minutes , deep breaths in and out , for five minutes . Set a timer at a minimum . Set a timer on your phone to go off in five minutes . Turn off all your notifications .
If you've got one of these smartwatches or anything , take the thing off so it can't vibrate , and just sit with your eyes closed and breathe and try not to think of anything . Let all the thoughts just go through your mind and not worry about a thing .
Not worry about what you're going to be doing later , what you're going to be having for tea , how you're going to do this , how you're going to pay that bill . Just breathe and I'll tell you what . Sometimes , just by doing that a few times , even if you have to in a day , you can start to change your frame of mind .
You can start to look more positively on things . Just help yourself and give yourself time to stop and breathe , because sometimes we don't even do that , but then start feeding your mind with things that are going to help you , that are going to inspire you , that you're going to have a bit of passion about and that will move you forward .
So read the books , listen to the podcast , just go for a walk as well and don't listen to anything . But then start to realize and understand your circumstances . What are my actual circumstances ? Me before I got into property , my actual circumstances weren't that bad . To be fair with you , I was in a job that I hated and I was miserable .
I will say that , and that was my main priority was to try and get out of that , because it really was getting me down . My family life was good , very supportive wife , lovely kids . Obviously bills to pay , so you're always worried about a bit of money and things , but we had a good job , so that wasn't too bad either .
I probably put myself under more stress and worry when I left that job . I took voluntary redundancy and I started a property business , a rent to rent business Probably put myself under a bit more stress than I needed to by doing that .
Initially I wanted to do it alongside a full-time job , but I just wanted to get out of there , so I made sure that I was reading the things that would help me to become better . I was learning from coaches , from mentors , to make sure that I didn't make the costly mistakes .
Of course , we help people with that ourselves now and we help our students to make sure that they don't do that , because you know , what goes around comes around . So why not give back ? But I put myself out there now and I still have bad days .
I still have days where I get a little bit down , a little bit down on myself , a little bit down on situations . Situations never been as good . So mark my words , it's never really going to change . You've just got to work out how you can keep your mindset positive , and that's number one . And how do you do that ?
Well , number two is you work on your skills . What do you know ? What do you want to know ? What do you want to learn ? What do you want to be good at ? Skill set and mindset work hand in hand .
Because by learning and having a good skill set in whatever it is that you're trying to achieve and do and of course that could be studying it , that could be doing coaches , going through mentoring and things learning the skill set that you need to create the life that you want will help your mindset , will get you in a positive mindset as well .
As long as it's the right thing for you to be doing . Don't just go and do something because you've seen somebody else say it's a good idea if it's not got a burning desire . Or you've not got a burning desire or a passion to be doing it , okay , you've got to make sure that you've got that burning desire .
You've got to make sure that you've got that passion to be getting out there and doing it , otherwise it's not the right thing for you . But go out there and get the skill set .
I used to think that I had to reinvent everything , I had to come up with everything myself , and it wasn't until I actually realized that all I needed to do was following somebody else's footsteps , add my own values to it , that I could get out there and create whatever I wanted .
So I'm always working on my skill set , because it keeps me in positive mindset , because I'm enjoying it , because I enjoy what I do . So make sure that you're doing the same , even if you have to do it alongside a busy schedule , a full-time job that you hate and everything . Start working on this on the side and it'll give you more positivity .
It will give you more of a drive and a purpose in what you're doing . And then the last of the three things that you need to create whatever you like in life is habits . You've got to work on your habits , your day-to-day habits . Have some habits that are set in stone .
One of those for me , early on , very early on , was to read 10 pages of a self-development book every day , 10 pages . Try and learn something new . Try and be inspired by somebody . It could be an autobiography , but something that you can take something away from , that you can learn from . Also , try to drink three liters .
Doesn't happen very often , but I try my best to drink as much water as possible because it helps me , it makes me feel fresher . I try to eat now as healthily as I can . But you don't need to do a million and one habits , new habits all the time . Just have a couple , just have two . One is to read something , to learn something every day .
The other one is to take action on what you've learned . Just start small and you can start to get bigger . I see some people they have a list of 10 habits and they stress themselves out , they actually put their mindset in a bad place because they can't do everything . You don't need to do everything .
Just make sure that you've got some habits , have some healthy habits and have some self-development habits . You're going to learn something new . Maybe you're going to get an online training . You're going to go through that .
Or , as I say , you're going to start putting yourself out there , networking with people , start reading those books and things , and then to look after yourself , because there's absolutely no point in doing all of this if you do not start to look after yourself . Where's the legacy piece going to be if your health's gone down the tube ?
You know all of this stuff , but you cannot actually go out there and implement it . So make sure that you're working on your healthy habits as well . What are the steps that you need to do to make sure that you're going to last a bit longer on this planet ? Because , let's face it , at the end of the day , we all got to put the work in .
It is going to take a bit of time , but we've got to make sure that we get it done . So work on your mindset , work on your skill set , work on your habits and make sure that you are passionate about the things that you want to do . You don't have to love everything , but you've got to have a bit of a passion and a drive for it .
What drives me is my kids . I want them to be able to get out there and do the things that they want to do , anything that could be . They don't have to follow in my footsteps , but I want to show them that I didn't have to stay in a job that I hated . I didn't just have to go down that little minion route that a lot of us feel trapped in .
I could get out of that . I could create something for myself , create a world and a life and an environment that we absolutely love , and they can do the same . And I wanted to show them that at a young age and that was really the driving force behind me wanting to be the best version of me that I can be . Who's the best version of you ? You can be .
