Don't forget the code, TRIPAP200. That will get you $200 off your Tribute. And there's something new on the way from Tribute, which is a bit hush-hush at the moment, but I'm intrigued. And George is sworn to secrecy, I can tell. He's gagged. He's gagging to tell us. Look at him.
Yeah, exactly. And Austrian Audio, making passion heard. Now, Austrian Audio are giving away a pair of their new Hi-X20 headphones to the winner of our mix competition. We've selected 10 of the entries so far just to run through today, and then our shortlist will be sent off to Austrian Audio. And Kurt from Austrian Audio will pick us a winner. Pick a winner? So, let's start by having you listen to the ones that have come in so far. Can we kick off Mr Music with Chris Kane? Chris Kane, we can.
Here we go. Experience a new destination for adventure, nature, science, and culture. National Geographic today, tonight at 7 on the National Geographic Channel. Always wonder. Okay, that was Chris Kane. Do we just want to run through them and just mark as we go? Yeah, okay. All right, let's do that. Yeah, okay. Let's do the next one then. I've got down here Luke Trusty. Trusty Luke. Experience a new destination for adventure, nature, and culture. Tonight at 7 on the National Geographic Channel.
Always wonder. Your old mate, Robbo Ray Kingston. Experience a new destination for adventure, nature, science, and culture. National Geographic today, tonight at 7 on the National Geographic Channel. Always wonder. So, can I just say, knowing Ray, that's very Ray. Clearly, he wanted a laugh. Ray Kington, nice one, Ray. Thank you. The next one I've got is Amime, or A-me-me, or I'm not quite sure how you pronounce it, but A-M-I -M-E. Amine, maybe. I don't know.
Experience a new destination for adventure, nature, science, and culture. National Geographic today, tonight at 7 on the National Geographic Channel. Always wonder. All right, P. Evans, here we go. I like the music cue. I like that. I like that track. It's cool. Experience a new destination for adventure, nature, science, and culture. National Geographic today, tonight at 7 on the National Geographic Channel. Always wonder. Methinks P. Evans is in radio. Yeah, I have a feeling. Yeah, I agree.
Yeah. Okay, the next one I've got is Lynn D. Blue. Why? Because it was rather side-chain-y? There was a bit of EQ towards the end. Yeah, filtering. Filtering the voice, yeah. Yeah. All right, well, here's Lynn D. Blue. Experience a new destination for adventure, nature, science, and culture. National Geographic today, tonight at 7 on the National Geographic Channel. Always wonder. Interesting. I'm actually now changing my mind, I think. Are you? Okay. Yeah, I am. I think so.
Now, we've got two here from Paul Seeger, one with my voice and one with his voice. Do we play both? Yeah. We should play both. Do the one with... Well, I think it's confusing to have his voice in there. Well, that was part of the competition, though, was to have a bit of fun with it. And if you didn't like something, make it your own. So I think both are relevant. Here we go. Experience a new destination for adventure, nature, science, and culture.
National Geographic today, tonight at 7, only on the National Geographic Channel. Always wonder. And then he also did a mix using AP's voice. Experience a new destination for adventure, nature, science, and culture. National Geographic today, tonight at 7, on the National Geographic Channel. Always wonder. Who have we missed? We've missed someone. Yeah, and one more, which is Tian Tan. Experience a new destination for adventure, nature, science, and culture.
National Geographic today, tonight at 7, on the National Geographic Channel. Always wonder. Well, there you go. Yeah. Who wants to kick off with their thoughts on? There's my thoughts. Your top three. Go, Robert, you go then. It's all misspelled and everything. So I don't have these measured between each other, but just, you know, each one on a delta, sigma, plus or minus. Chris Kane's, I thought his mix was pretty good. Nice and loud, but still you could hear stuff.
Trusty, I didn't think was a very good mix. I think the vocal is low, kind of thin sounding. Ray, very funny. Hilarious. Loved it. I didn't like Animes or whatever. I can't remember why, but didn't think it was such a good mix. P. Evans. Yeah, interesting. Not bad. He did some effects there. It was a little bit cut, but creative and cool. Lindy Blue. Not too bad of a mix. I don't know if it was as good as Chris's. And then Seaver or whatever that person was. Paul Seeger, yeah. Seeger, yeah.
So the one he did, I wasn't such a fan of that. But the other one he did with your voice, I think it was also not too bad. Probably one of the better ones, but I don't think Chris's. I still think Chris's was better. And Tian Tan, the last one? Not bad either, is my note. Not bad either. That's fully detailed. That's amazing. So if you're going to do top three, Chris Kane obviously is in the top three. Yeah, Chris Kane, probably actually Tian and one more. I'll go with you guys.
I think Ray was a lot of fun. Chris Kane and Tian. Okay. Yep. Okay. I'll go with those three. Cool. George. I think I tend to vote more on production quality than on creativity. I think that's just kind of my... Well, that's your bag. I'll say this. So that's the thing. So Chris, number one, I did star ratings. It was good. I gave it four out of five. Second, LT. I gave him three. I didn't think it was that bad, actually. RK, damn funny. I thought it sounded pretty bad.
Yeah, it did sound pretty bad. There's a bit of compression on there, right? I mean, come on, mate. What are you doing? Seriously. If it was ironic, then good for you. AM, the entire track, everything was mono'd. So all the effects and music, everything was right down the center. So don't know if that was intentional or not, but it's when you're comparing with everybody else in stereo, with such a cool wide stereo feel that sounded really... That aligns with my...
But not bad, not a bad mix, just mono. So if it was for mono, that would be great. If it was a mistake, can I just tell you, I can relate to that. Because when I was doing Work Experience, I made my very first radio commercial. And I thought it sounded really cool because it had this sort of delay effect going on on the voiceover. And I put it on a cassette because I mixed it while the guy who's... I was doing Work Experience with went out for lunch.
And he left me an 8-track multitrack session open to mix. So I put it on a cassette and thought, cool, there's my demo. When I went for my first job interview with a guy called Phil Lentz, who subsequently gave me my first job, the first thing he said to me was, I really like your demo, but did you realize you had a today and a tomorrow track open at the same time?
So I had two versions of the voiceover over the open that was giving me that really cool delay effect that I was listening to going, man, that sounds amazing. But it was actually two versions of the script. So there you go. If that was a mistake, you're not the only one, can I just say. The initials PE, that was the fifth one, three stars. Fine, nothing great. LB. The mastered output level's kind of low compared to the others, you know? But I didn't mind. I thought it was a clean, quality mix.
I gave it four stars. PS1. Yeah, PS1, the first one. Just from a technical standpoint, could have been a lot better. I mean, he went out on a limb and just went creative and did everything from scratch. So points for that, but still, I gave it a two. His second one, gave it a three. I mean, three or four. I guess it depends on whether you look at radio production creativity as another point, using side chains and ducking and whatever.
But I really, really thought the Tian Tan one was my favorite. I really thought that was the one that stood out the most. I really liked the mix. I thought the fidelity, just from the technical perspective, from tastefulness, from the way the voice is EQ'd and sits right in the mix, doesn't sound overly... It wasn't as aggressive as Chris. Yeah, I don't... I prefer less aggressive, I guess, you know? And very clean, but still clear. So that was my... So what's your top three then? Tian?
Top is Tian and CC or Chris at the beginning would be second. And LB maybe would be third. Okay, cool. Andrew, you're next. Okay. Well, it's funny, George, we're actually the same. I did actually, I've changed it after listening to them again, because I only had one listen the other day. So I've got, not necessarily in this order, but I have Tian Tan. I have Linda Blue. Linda Blue. Okay. Yep. And I have Chris Kane. They're my three. Your top three. But what's the rank?
I thought you guys liked Ray. I thought I wasn't rocking the boat. Yeah, we thought that the humour was funny. But I gave... I was doing the same kind of thing, the five star thing. And my first listen, I gave Chris Kane four and a half stars. In retrospect, I think I would give Tian Tan four and a half stars. I would give Chris Kane four, Linda Blue four. Then I had the Paul Seeger mix of me. I gave him 3.5 for that. I would have given him three for his reed, for that mix.
Paul Evans, I also had 3.5, Amini three, Ray Kingston. I gave him a three because it made me laugh, but probably shouldn't have done. And Luke, trusty, I gave it two. Are we tossing Ray because you didn't take it seriously? No, we didn't. I'm not tossing him because he's on my list. Ray made it. Look, part of the criteria was for creativity. So, you know, I kind of feel like he deserves a vote for that. So, you know... The reverb was like... It was just that sort of special touch, wasn't it?
And the compression, well, you know, he's a radio guy. So if it doesn't sound compressed, it's clearly not compressed. So, you know... Play Ray one more time. Experience a new destination for adventure, nature, science, and culture. National Geographic today, tonight at seven, on the National Geographic Channel. Always wonder... Is he saying a word? I don't know. Who knows? Only Ray will know. And he'll ring me and tell me once we get off this podcast. It is loud in your face.
Yeah, it is really in your face. The sucking compression, there's something about that. I mean, he needs to get an honourable mention. Can we give him a four? Well, an honourable mention then for Robert. My other two for the reasons that I don't need to express because everyone else has already expressed them. I kind of feel like Chris and Linda are my two picks as well. Linda Blue and Chris Kane would be my two. If I have to put an order to all of it, I'd say Chris, then... So, here we go.
I've written them down. So, Chris has a vote from all of us. So, it's Chris Kane. Ray has a vote from me and Robert. So, that's two votes for Ray. Tian, one, two, three. Tian has three. Yeah, I've got... Three votes for Tian. Chris Kane, we've done. Linda Blue has two. Wow, we might need a... I would give her... Hang on one sec then. So, who are we missing? Who's CB? CB got one vote. CB. Is there a CB? I've got CB down. Who did you vote for, George? I've got Tian, Chris and CB.
Or should that be LB? No, he's got the same as me. So, that should be Linda Blue, should it? That's my writing. Okay, so Linda Blue actually gets three votes. Okay, so we've got Chris, Tian and Linda are our top three then. And Ray is out by... He's missed by one vote. So, maybe we put him in as the encouragement award just to sort of see whether the guys at Austrian Audio agree that maybe his special touches deserve the headphones, I guess.
I wonder if that'll... I think he deserves to be in the top. So, we've got Chris, we've got Tian, we've got Ray and we've got Linda. Okay, so that's our top four. So, they're the four we'll send across to Austrian Audio. And we're going to hopefully get one of the guys on the line from over there to have a chat about the new headphones and pick the winner in a future episode, hopefully not too far away. Yeah. Cool. Well, there you go. Thank you to everybody. That was a fun experiment.
That was entirely too much work. You guys need to appreciate how much of a pain in the neck that was to do for everyone involved. 20 minutes and they set up... Setting up mixed minuses and God knows what so everybody can hear it. And all the file gatherings and da-da -da-da. But you know what? We finally did a contest and we've... Exactly. Robert, bring on Source Connect 4 and save me all that grief, please. Very cool. Nice, guys.
Thank you to everybody who entered and thank you for taking the time to do it. Because I know, I mean, just setting up to do that, you know, there's a good half hour, an hour's work in all that. So much appreciated. And if we could give you all a pair of headphones, we would. Yeah. No, thanks for the effort. But we're not paying for it. In fact, Austrian Audio have just told us. Look under your chair. Well, that was fun. Is it over? The Pro Audio Suite. And Austrian Audio.
