Summary: Ariana Dumbledore was the sister of Albus and Aberforth Dumbledore. She was killed in the famous duel between her brothers and Grindlewald. However, I don't think she was just a sister. She was something more. Ariana is an obscurial. An obscurial is the host body of the obscuruse. This theory revolves around one passage Aberforth said in the seventh book. He said, "It destroyed her what they did. She was never right again. She wouldn't use magic but she couldn't get rid of it. It turned inward and drove her mad. It exploded out of her when she couldn't control it." That sounds a lot like Credence. His foster mom beat him because of his magical blood. When his emotions ran wild, he would explode. This passage also revealed that Ariana was attacked. That would explain when the obscuruse formed. And when it died, so did she.
