Welcome to the Potter discussion.

Hello, my friends. And welcome back to the Potter discussion discussing Harry Potter. Fantastic beasts and the Wizarding world fandom. I'm host Oscar. And on today's episode, we'll be recast Harry Potter. This is an episode I had while listening to another podcast and not a Harry Potter podcast where they were talking about a movie and how an actor was turned down for the role.

And I thought that actor would be perfect. Then I thought, well, for Harry Potter, maybe there are also some parallels. So of that is where the inspiration for the sample episode comes from. And I'm hoping. Now today we'll be able to dissect , uh, the different characters that would be good for different roles.

And there are some characters, some actors that are already in the series that I think could be very good in other characters. And there are also some actors that are not in Harry Potter. That would just be. Absolutely perfect. And this is not professional. This is just my opinion. Um, and what I, what I went off of was if I could see that actor playing that character in, in my mind's eye, that is a good actor for the character, because I, I mean, especially for one of them that I will definitely tell you about, I could see that person playing that role so well.

So I hope you will listen to this entire thing because we have got some pretty controversial stuff and some pretty. Obvious stuff, uh, that I think everyone will enjoy. Um, but we do have some boiler plate stuff just to go over before we get into it. Uh, well actually the first one's not so boiler, but it is, we hit 3000 followers on Instagram.

Uh, I think we're actually at 3,200 by this point. So we are definitely going up there. If you wanna be, be around for 4,000, you should, should definitely follow at the Potter discussion on Instagram soon because we are getting there. We are getting there quick. The quilling came out last Wednesday. I believe the 16th of March.

If you got it, I hope you Reddi it and enjoyed it. Uh, any feedback, just reply to that email, I will definitely make sure I get to that and read it. Uh, if you wanna sign up for the qui Inc, it's a, uh, completely free and more content mean it's kind of an no brainer. You should, uh, that'll be a link in the show below for content every other Wednesday.

Um, about the quilt and in you also get a. Free guide to a perfect Harry Potter marathon. When you sign up to enjoy that in PDF form two very exp obscure Easter eggs in the, in each Harry Potter movie, just to make your watching experience just that much better. Okay. So that is basically it, but I should mention that I will do a very short discussion, uh, a new kind of, uh, teaser.

Like promo content thing that wizard world put out on Instagram. I think other places this week that I will go before we start and that is coming up, uh, right now let's get into it. Okay. So for those of you not on Instagram, there was a new trailer release by Wizarding world. It's not exactly a trailer, but there was much more revealed.

And I think there are some interesting parts to the trailer. Uh, I keep, okay, I'm gonna call it trailer just because my brain will not call anything else. Uh, the, okay. I'm gonna trim myself. It's like a, the, the new promotion materials out. We're sitting all put together this video of like promotional material, about the actors behind the scenes, um, about some more footage from the movie.

And I think it is very interesting. Let's put it that way. Um, so what I think I wanna go over are just a couple things that I noticed. I really. Stuck out to me that were either like, kind of confusing or really confirm something. So the first one I think I wanna talk about is an, a line that nude said, he said, um, not in the line exactly, but he says that Grinold is a searer.

And instead of fighting them, they need to confuse him, which is not exactly not what they were before. Now. They wanna confuse written the vault. This feels like not like the exact opposite of everything that they should actually be doing. Um, because I feel like. I might be alone in this, but from, from what I can see, it felt like they were kind of building up to this whole, you know, like final battle, the war, where the muggles begins today.

They're gonna, they're gonna go after Gral, Greenville's gonna go after them. They're building followers, but now no's like, all right, guys, we have to confuse him. I might be completely focusing on the wrong detail because. It might be that, that was just another piece of that train cart scene. And they're just adding in there because it is a part of just, just one, one section of the over our goal of double door and his, his dumb door and his army.

I was trying to find a different word for that, but dumb door's army. Trying to really get Gral off of his feet, because the whole reason Gral is such a, a, a formidable opponent is he, he knows how to talk to people. He charms everyone onto his side and he is a seer. So that helps a lot. He can see his future.

There's a lot of things that Gral does very well. And he kind of has the world in his pocket. He knows how to, how to twist word. Then he knows how to create a, a common enemy for people to kind of band together against, which is why he managed to, to build such a big following. And I think that's how he managed to create the base, uh, that we see not only in the, uh, fantastic beasts, but also in the crumbs of grow world.

And hopefully now in the secrets I've dumbed those. So that was one thing that I, sorry, that I found was, uh, very interesting. The second thing was, they're talking a lot. About the da, like I said before, yes, they're really focusing more on double do army, but there was actual shots from the order of the Phoenix that were doubled army.

We saw Harry, we saw Hermin saw like that, that really long haul. I mean the, the room of requirement that, that, uh, prayer wheel and the, the, in the, in the first trailer and just the whole focus on Newt and, and dumb door, just kind of being in the same in the same corner is really. Really, um, sought after that kind of feel.

And I think the, the big reason for this is the reason that they put in all the other things that we were noticing it's to make the nostalgia for fans, for fans who go back into the theaters and watch the movies. Because I think they're basing this off of if someone walks in just randomly, I think actually April 15th is a Friday, so they just.

I mean Friday night movie. You can't say that. So if you walk into a Friday night movie theater and you get tickets to this thing called two Dundon and you sit down, you wanna be able to understand it and have a kind of an inkling of, oh, oh, like, oh yeah. So if, if, uh, uh, not a Harry Potter fan, if someone who've read the books, but not seen the movies, uh, sees this trailer, they will know exactly what it is.

And they'll be like, oh my God, I know that I wanna see this movie now. So I think that was kind of the reason they were putting it in there, which is really too bad because I think there could be a really big plot point and a really good addition to the movie if they just added devil's army in a little bit and not, you know, the hairy devil's army, but really kind of harping on the fact that this is devil door's.

First army. This is the first edition of the order of the Phoenix.  first edition signed copy of the order of the Phoenix. I think that is definitely gonna be a part that I wanna play out if they put out any more promotion material that is kind of focusing on this idea, or if this is really a one time, you know, this is what's happening kind of deal, but I definitely am excited to see this unfold and I will certainly be monitoring Instagram for any other updates.

And that pretty much covers it. Those are the things that I, uh, noticed, you know, kind of jumped out at me. Um, so yeah, so I, I, if you found any value from that, uh, I will make sure you, you go check out that video on Instagram. It's just though the Wizarding world page. Um, that was a very interesting thing, and I'm glad that it, it is out there and I actually have another, yet.

I'm another thing to talk about an awesome thing put out, but now let's get into the main episode of re. Casting Harry Potter. No, no transitions, no cuts. Let's just do it. Let's just do it. All right. So the first two I wanna talk about are the first two characters. I wanna cast two first, two actors. I wanna put in the roles.

Is obvious. I mean, so obvious, especially the first one that I think I I'm guarantee you've heard before. So the first one, the first character I wanna en recast is Snape, Snape, Snape, Severus Snape. He plays of course, a pivotal role in Harry Potter story. As many other people do. And his character is one that cannot be played by many, but there is one man that I think would play this role.

Perfectly, of course, no one can be better than Alan Rickman of course, because he was the original actor and no one can be better than the original actor if they wanna get the original movie feel. But there was one person that I stumbled across from my research that I've seen other movies that I think is perfect.

And I think let's, let's just say it together. Let's just say it together. We all, we all know. All right, ready? 1, 2, 3, Adam driver. I guarantee no one else. No one else has said that thing, but I am glad that I can say it myself. So Adam driver as Snape, I mean, just on the looks alone, just on how he looks, you kind of have to agree.

Adam driver is perfect as Snape. He's got the, the shoulder length black hair. He's got the whole like dark brooding facial expression down, and he really plays the kind of roles that Snape. Is I think the one that comes to mind, the one that people know him as probably is Kyle Ren in the star war series.

I have not seen star wars in many, many months, many years, in fact. So I have really no running election of what he played in that movie. The only thing I can, I can remember thinking while, while watching, uh, the star wars movies with him in it. Was thinking, wow, that guy could play state. And that's why this is the, the most obvious thing to me and why I played Adam driver first in the collar run role.

He plays the, you know, emotional damage, you know, trying to get back to, to home and find someone who actually cares about and kind of role. Which is exactly what S Snape is. I mean, with the, with the long black hair, after that, he can't really argue, Adam, driver's perfect for S Snape. So that is really why I picked him because I mean, when I was searching, I got, I went of actors that I knew, and of course, Adam driver was the first one I thought of, and I, I wrote his name down before I even searched because I knew just how perfect it would be.

So, and I just got, got myself so excited when I, when I saw pictures of him. Cause I, I don't really know what he looks like. Um, besides out of. Of Colorado. I wasn't sure if he like, had a different hairstyle, but when I saw that, that was what his hair was. I was like, yes, yes, yes. So Adam driver really has all the requirements.

He's a very talented actor and one that has been going for a while. So I think he will definitely play a mean Snape. If a Harry Potter TV show reboot on HBO, max ever comes out, of course, that will never happen. Uh, as we all know, um,  but we can always hope. So Adam driver is my perfect, perfect ideal. Snape now let's move on straight.

Let's kind of bundle these two Dumbledore. Dumbledore is another person that I think is a very wide role that a lot of people could play. But I think Dumbledore takes a specific kind of person, someone who like plays good people, but also is just a, an icon. I mean, like if, if you see that person, you, you know, oh, of course that's so and so, and.

You can kind of see if that person is, is as you think they are, if you search them up and you recognize who they're in. And that's exactly what I did with Dumbo's new actor that I am deciding to put in instead of Michael GA, I'm sorry, Mr. Mr. GA, but you're gonna have to, to scooch over for this one.

Because I think the perfect dumb door is Morgan Freeman. Morgan Freeman has the voice. He has the, the elderly wisdom. He has the fatherly love. He has everything. That dumbed or a good, I should say, a good dumbed or has, and Morgan Freeman, I think will be a very good dumbed or, and of course the Harry Potter on max, what I was talking about.

So I think it'll be Morgan Freeman. Now, the main reason I picked him is because he plays similar roles. The one, the one I was thinking of in Bruce almighty, I don't know when that came out. I think it was nineties or maybe nineties or early two thousands. He played the character of God in that movie. And, um, I, I haven't seen the full movie, but in just small clips that I've seen in my researcher, I think that really, really fits because he just, he is kind of, you know, Delta plays in, in the Harry Potter series, Donald kind of plays the nose, everything, um, you know, kind of watching over Harry and that's kind of the same thing that he does, Bruce on light.

So when he. When he, you know, was God in Bruce almighty, I'm saying this so much. I think that also really translated into his role as dumb door. And it will translate into his role at dumb door because dumb door really is a Scher and a plotter and a planner. And he looks ahead and Morgan, I think will definitely play that role very well.

And that is why I chose him for the role of dumb door. Okay. Now for the less obvious now for the more obscure characters that I really couldn't think of. Perfect examples of, but I think I came upon a good answer in the ends. Let's start off with Harry Good old Harry Potter series is named after him. He plays a great role.

In the story and he is the kind of person that is somewhat similar to dumb Jordan in terms of the people that could play him, but is kind of in a, in a different mindset, in a younger mindset because they both play, uh, main roles in the story. But Harry has to learn and dumbed or has to teach. So there different kind of person that could play Harry than Dumbledore.

And I kept thinking. There got, there's gotta be someone. There's gotta be someone there's gotta be someone that's perfect for Harry and the one person that I could just, I, I could not get my mind off of was Matthew Lewis, the person who plays Neville long bottom Matthew Lewis. Is someone who could play Harry.

Now you might be thinking, well, no, no, just not Neville, Neville doesn't know anything. NES Neville's clueless. He makes a fool of himself. But I don't know. I mean, I, I don't know if you see, um, the, the difference between Matthew Lewis and Neville, you can see that. If he was made out to be Harry Matthew Lewis could have played Harry very well.

And that's why I chose him today because I think if Danny Rockcliff did not exist, I think Matthew Lewis would be the optimal candidate in Harry Potter to play Harry Potter. Uh, and of course, I am glad that he got. Cast as ne long bottom, but I think if he were Harry, he could have played the role just as good.

Of course, it would've been a, a, a very different kind of story. But Matthew Lewis is very competent actor that I think could, could portray, uh, Harry in a light that is very similar to the way did Rockcliff portrayed him. Now, the lights will be similar, but I think think Matthew Lewis in general has a different outlook than, than Dan.

So it would be very different. The, the character would be a little bit different, but I think that the, the general sense of who Harry was, I think would say the same, which is also why I chose Matthew Lewis, because I know that he has the, the, the acting, I guess you can call him chops to, to switch between ne and Harry.

And we see him, of course he would not play both, but just because we know he could. I think just reinforces the idea that he would play a very good Harry and that is why I chose him today. Now let us move on to our next, our next person who I think would play in a different role. And I think we should talk about let's.

Let's do Hermione. Let's do Hermione. This was the person I was telling you about in the very beginning where I said I could see this person in my mind's I, I playing Hermione so well now of course, this is absolutely. Nothing to do with the fact that I just finished watching Don Abby and, um,  uh, now all those British actors are stuck in my brain.

Um, uh, so nothing, absolutely nothing to do with that, but the person that I think, I mean, the, the Aion is fantastic. I mean, that's, that's the bottom line. So I think the actor. Who played her mind who have to be kind of the same, the same know brightness, but also have the same kind of depth. So I think the person who could play Hermin really well is Lily.

James, if you don't know Lily, James, she plays rose in down now, which of course is not why I chose her at all. That's why I was not her, but I was thinking about her  but I think she definitely is someone that I can see. So clearly. As Hermione. And that's why I chose to, because I can, of course, because I definitely was not wondering about her from Don Abby.

Um, Hermione is the exact same. And as I basically get carbon copy of rose, so that is really where this idea came from. But as I thought more into it, this is really something that I can see, like crystal clear. I think she's a very bright person. At least her, her, her actings a very bright, um, and her mind, he can definitely thrive over that.

I think in the later books, herion does kind of turn into a more, you know, Serious kind of dark and like almost, almost confused person. And of course she, she's not, you know, like a, like Drake, a mouth level of confused, but she is not the same, like trippy, never better kind of person that she was in the, um,  that was so bad in the first book and the first movie.

So I think Lilly, James could definitely take over that, that kind of. Uh, sadness in herion and the later books and channel that into more of a brighter sense because it's a very dark time from the prisoner VA ban on. I mean, there are means about this everywhere, but from the prisoner of VAs ban on it is ridiculous how dark it gets.

And I mean, there of course, like VOR into the back of coral's head, but then Harry, but the power of true love, he kills Gurr in an act of, of heroism. Um, and, and the chamber of secrets, there is a, a big monster in the chamber and Harry has to go stab it with the, with the ancient sword. Um, then the prisoner of Oscar band.

There's like the person who killed your parents was out and now they're creepy. Dementors everywhere and gray. Now they got a fire hair. He is like illegally chosen and has see his best friend. Like what, one of his friends killed and VO board rise from his own blood. And then they ordered the Phoenix is like, Just as bad, serious dies.

Um, the world kind of crumbles. Then the next book, dumb Lord dies. Then the next book Lupin dies to dies. Fred dies, everyone dies. Lovely. My point is her. Remind me is not the kind of Cherokee person that we see here as in the beginning of the story. And the bottom line here is Lily James. Is, uh, I think James could really play this role in such a way that allowed for these same kind of somber energy to still be, um, brought out.

Because of course that is a very vital part to the story. That's a very vital part to Hermoine's character, you know, as a whole. But I think another part of why. She would be so good for the role is she knows how to continue to maintain her. I mean, her happens really. There's nothing else to it. Um, she's a very kind of bright and active and energetic person that I think will really benefit the story would really benefit from kind of a shot of that kind of, um, so, so that's really where, where I'm going with this and that's why I think Lee would be great for the role of Hermione.

Okay. So I did speak a little bit about Drigo in that previous segment. So let's, let's just move on to him who could play Draco mouth? Well, while I was thinking of his, his new actor, I was thinking about his main traits in, in a Lucious, not an Lucious. I always say Lucious in a Draco character. I wanna see someone who has snark, who has, who has a presence, um, someone who.

Who can, who's very, very, uh, magnet mag. I was gonna say etic or something like that. Who's very magnetic who draws a crowd, who is a very kind of big person who, who knows how to talk to people. And who's very influential, but also some with a lot of emotional stress, um, especially later his life and really the one person that came to mind was from another show that I , that I was watching.

That you may have heard of it is called a Lucifer on Netflix. Now you probably know if, if, if you, if you, if you know Lucifer, then you know that you know which, uh, which, which person I'm going after now, but that person who I think will play a good Draco is Tom Ellis. The wonderful well actor, Tom Ellis in the Lucifer who plays man here Tous for, I think is all of these things.

The whole plot of the show is, uh, Lucifer is this. You know, whole, whole, you know, rich, great looking, you know, just absolute  absolute bro. Um, and he, he knows how to do everything. He's just perfect. And, but he, you know, has really a lot of emotional stress on him. He, he really has been damaged when he was.

Just, you know, a very young, you know, 4,000 year old angel. So that's really where I'm coming home. That's where, where I'm coming from. This that I think this part, I think is also, uh, very, very influential, um, because Tom S I think on like playing Draco, I can see it. And that is really, that's really where my will work.

Um, test comes into play. I can absolutely see Tom Ellis playing Draco, especially that scene where he's, he's kind of leaning over the sink, you know, just really struggling. I think that is a scene that I will, um, absolutely be, be, be really trying to try to play it out in my head because that, I think, especially with.

Someone like with, with someone like, uh, Matthew Lewis playing Harry, I think could be a really good scene because both they're like, there's very similar actually. Uh, Tom Ellis looks a little bit like Matthew Lewis a lot, like in like the hair, the kinda the tall, um, I. In the height they look similar and that would be funny to see them to see them, them dual.

Um, and I think we also see that Tom has a really good way. Okay, Tom Ellis, I cannot say to like Tom, because Tom could mean Tom Felton I'll come Ellis. So Ellis, um, has a very, very good way of, of showing his. His emotions, um, as he's planning a character. And I think that would translate very well because ful also does a really good job with that.

I think that's why Trico is such a compelling character. If Tom Ellis can be that kind of person, which he is, if he is that kind of person that would really translate over into a really. Draco, because for, we all know that a good Draco makes a very good story and a good story is the whole cause of Draco's emotional stress in the first place.

So it's a whole circle. If Ellis can keep up that, that kind of chain of he has to have the, the emotional damage, but he also have to, has to keep up this facade of, I am better than you bow down to me now. Snicky remarks here and there, stuff like that. I think that it would be just another reason to tack on that would just be another reason to, to make Ellis a, a fantastic Draco.

And as we are nearing the end of this episode, there are two more people that I think I want to go over in this, this, this short time that we have together. And the first one is. Ron. So Ron, I am gonna finish out the trio. Ron is the kind of character that is kind of goofy, not really knowing what's going on all the time, you know, but in the end, he is a very good friend and a very true friend to someone like Harry to someone like Hermione.

So we have Matthew Lewis, we have Lilly, James, who else can finish out this trio O playing Ron. Well, it'll never happen. It'll never happen just because there's a slight age, uh, difference in these actors and characters. But I think the person who would be a fantastic Ron is Mark Williams. You dunno who Mark Williams is?

Mark Williams is the actor of Arthur Weasley in the Harry Potter series. Of course, you're thinking, well, no, he's he blaze runs that, how that work. That's why I said it would never happen just because of how, how, um, uh, Mark Williams does not fit into that role. But if he, if, if you look past that, if you look at past, you know, where he is, if you look into really who he is in terms of his character, I think.

That is really where you see Ron, because especially in that scene where, um, Harry first arrived at the bur and I think it's actually Mark Williams first scene, uh, as, as Arthur in the movie he asked. So tell me, Harry, what exactly is the function of a rubber duck? That is really where I see Ron kind of the young excited kind of bright person that, that Ron is.

And that's why, you know, we're a hair and runner so good together. So I think that is why really ice. See Ron in Mark Williams, but also because Mark Williams is very kind of. He knows what to do in every situation. He's a very kind of resourceful person. And that helps also because with Harry, Harry is a, is, is, is someone who needs, uh, help with a lot of things.

Now he could absolutely do things himself, but he works best with other people. So was someone like Hermione who, who is, uh, of course kind of the, the, the, the brains of the group and someone like Ron, who's kind of the idea, man. Um,  that really works. Of course, none of his ideas are good, but it always inspires from my need to just think better and just be, be better than Ron.

So I think having someone who ha who has that excitement is very important in a character like Ron, which is why I think Mark Williams is perfect for this role. He understands that. He sees Ron, and he really knows how to portray a, a fantastic Ron. And that is why I think Mark Williams is perfect for this role and just in the interest of time, I'll get right into the next one.

The next, the last person that I'm talking about is Luna, who could play Luna, who is a Luna expert. I haven't used any of the actors from the trio. And I think now I will. So I think the person who can play Luna very well is Emma Watson. Now this, I think is the most confusing person on my list. And that's why I wanna finish out with Emma playing Luna.

Because when you think of Emma Watson, think of someone who is not Emma Watson, um, someone who is, you know, like more and more Hermione, like, and when you think of Luna, I mean, Ivan Lynch, like. No one will be better than Aon in, in any remake. Ivanna Lynch will be Luna. Uh, I've definitely said this before, but when they were casting Luna, they said a lot of, of girls were exactly like Luna, but Ivana Lynch is Luna.

I think that's what David Hayman said, the producer, uh, when they were casting Luna, which makes absolute sense. You see like Ivanna ALO is perfect. And like in her, uh, podcast of chick peeps, I dunno if that's still going on. Um, but also in interviews in general, She is just this. Like AB like she's a pure soul.

I think that's, that's a perfect way to put it. She has like, no, no taint. She has no, no stains on her personality. She is an absolute, just diamond in the rough of, of other people. She is just, she, she, she knows, uh, the, the secrets of the universe just for how pure right for that's. That's really like how I see it.

She just is. So insightful. And in, in her Luna way, I will admit it is not a, a, uh, traditional kind of, um, smarts, but Luna understands people. Luna knows who people are. A lot of people know who, who other people are, but Luna can really see inside a person. And I think Emma could play that kind of role very well.

Now she wouldn't be the kind of like, I can see them too kind of person. I think Emma would be a more kind of quiet person. Um, Luna as Emma, Emma, as Luna would create a more quiet role and would be more eager to learn. Cause I think one of the traits Emma brings to, to, uh, herion is her ability to kind of, to, to be, be excited about learning at Hogwarts.

And I think Luna could also kind of have that kind of. Of same excitement. And I think that could be another reason why, um, Luna would be portrayed so well by Emma Watson. And I think that will just about do it. Thank you so much for listening to this episode. And if any questions, comments, whatever you want.
