I am new he scrugs. It is Friday. The Cowboys have just finished practice. They're walking off the field. They're going to talk to the media today and we gotta wait basically over an hour to get the practice report. Brian Schottenheimer held his press conference earlier today and one of the key questions was.
What about Tyler Geiton. And for a lot of.
The questions, Brian Schottenheimer saying, well, we got to go through practice.
We gotta see. So that's why I'm.
Eagerly awaiting till it's three o'clock Central time to see what does the practice report say?
What about guys?
Because right now, shot, he says, left tackle Tyler Guiitton is still in concussion protocol. He did not want to make any determination about left tackle Tyler Smith. It's been on the injury report. So potentially against the New York Jets, the Cowboys could be without four starters on their offensive line.
Two of them will not be there. Their starting center Cooper Bebes already miss games of the high ankle spray, and then you're right guard Tyler Booker has already missed a game with a high ankle spray, so he won't play. So we're talking about potentially four definitely two guys. Which word concerned now when the head coaches like, I don't know.
So last week it was how many guys that were off the offensive line were hert too right?
So it was it was to to start during the game, Uh still had to go out and then Dyton left the game with concussion, and so then you had to bring in Nate Thomas.
So it was three guys, you know, you had three backups.
Last and they did they did, They did decent.
It wasn't it wasn't bad.
And so for me, it does make you nervous because like you said, what what do you What happens is somebody else goes down if you have another one or to go down, then yeah, you're it's spooky because like you said, what you say yesterday, who are we looking for? So that makes me nervous. But to start off with them right now, I'm I'm all right, I'm not I'm
not too worried. And then as far as like with the injury report, you know how it is, like say somebody is close to being ready or you think they're gonna be ready now you kind of keep it close to the vest because you can love somebody to sleep like they're doing boxing and they'd be like, oh, this guy ain't playing.
This guy ain't plays.
So I mean, office line even though with the changes and it's been going on since the preseason, basically they've been playing different people and they've actually held up, you know, and so credit to them and the old line coach over there and whatever's going on in that room. But the accountability of those guys has been pretty good so far. So I'm like Trey, you know, I haven't seen anything to make me be that scared yet.
Of course on paper, and.
Like just talking about it, it sounds spookier than what they've shown it so far.
And so you go back to last night's game where Trey, you were absolutely correct on Thursday time where San Francisco was as banged up as you could be, and three of us took took the Rams, and then the other podcast at the media mash, everybody took the Rams there. So Trey, you were the only one who got right. But that just shows you this is a National Football League, even on the road. Banged up San Francisco forty nine ers team goes to the Rams and they win the game.
Sean mcvadyn't help it the end, but I was hand did what he do.
But let me say this, man, great job by soloding the defense. Y. You know, maybe I should put the something baby offense line. Guy's got to Guy's gotta get off the ball. Off the ball, man.
They ain't get off the ball that last play, that last play they got they got ran through. Fred Warner was in the backfield. The safety came down and also made it made made the contact at the point of impact.
Right there that was able to push whereas back.
But uh, I just I was looking for more of a creative play in that situation, you know, and and and unfortunately, you know, like we talked a little bit ago about you know, maybe that play had worked previously before, but the defense was ready for that.
One man looking at it, it was like, okay, you about to see some smash moun football and just channeling that inner Sola and Chris Case shout out to.
Him over there, getting those d linemen humming.
But they that's all they do is preach, get off over there, and like you you're playing until they four ten. That was just honestly, that just came down the wheel and want too because they did have the block.
Freend was outside the block. He kind of reached.
Around there, but he had they had the penetration and then the safety coming down here like that was that was crazy.
So credit to them on so they called time out.
So you I'm thinking, okay, Sean.
That's what I thought.
They switch it up.
I'm like, okay, were about to see like a little fly motion or something like that.
But I said, direction is something, get somebody's eyes going the wrong way or something. But there was none of that. It was just line up man versus man, Let's see who gonna get it. And then Sam Fran got it.
And this once again, why don't gamble in the National football, the Rams took and gave the Eagles all they wanted, and you could say the Brams kind of gave that one away. So you're thinking, okay, hey, you're you're a team that just went toe to toe with the world teams. You should be able to handle a depleted San Francisco forty ninety.
They didn't handle it right.
And when it came down to man on man mino e minor, you got you got toe up.
So hey, that boy, mac Jones, I'm gonna tell you change your typical backup, you know. And and you know coming out of them, you know like there was a few teams that actually wanted him, and going to New England that probably wasn't the best spot for him to go first off, you know what I mean, because you could definitely see that boy has a little bit of personality,
has some swag to him too as well. And uh that that that what he did last night going how many yards he throw for it was like three hundred or something like.
That, and you put on a show. He put on the show and through injury, through cramp. I was just gonna say injury that was everything. That boy came out there and he showed his butt last night.
That's what I guess with all that.
Well, he got championship.
He do.
And I will say that you did see that role tie in that Alabama, that Nick that Nick Saban s like in your quarterback that will that want to like this was this was the resurgence of Mac Jones. But as much as we're giving credit to him, you got to give credit to the man Shanahan. Like, this man has turned multiple quarterbacks that were either on the back end of their career or considered long term backups into the superstars in this league. This man is Trey Lance.
Now he didn't he had Trey Lance. But Brock party, were you thinking about him beforehand? No, where Mac Jones. People said he was done the first round draft pick. Now no, I'm saying he's turned. I'm saying he's had first rounders and no name quarterback. Uh. You going back to Nick Molin who was the other guy, And I'm sorry because he was on my team, but he had Nick.
Molin, Jimmy and uh that.
Dude, it was that dude. He went down to jackson with that man. He went to Jacksonville. I was gonna kill me, but they they were talking about trading for all of them. They said, at one point in time, he has three starters on the roster, and so that's from first round all the way down to undrafted guys.
So let me help you here, man, what's his name? So so dorsetting that we're talking before you got here. Before they took Trey Lance and they traded up. Chris Sims works over at NBC. Chris and Kyle went to Texas together. They are they are tight, and Chris was saying he loves mac Jones. Mac Jones is his type
of player. And then Michael Lombardi, who's now Belichick's GM open North Carolina and worked with Bill in Cleveland, he was saying Kyle wanted mac Jones the entire time, but people in the building, John Lynch and others were saying, you can't trade that many picks and take that guy. And then the people were just like, what what mac Jones? So he got talked into Trey Lance. And if it's one thing you two both know, having had coaches, you
give a coach aplaying he ain't exactly want. Oh man, you figure figure assistant coach who don't want you.
I've been that guy.
But he said, I've been that guy where it's like, man, I had to make myself extendable on special teams where it was like a coach literally looked at me and said, you know what, want you to go to your team meeting? I said, what you mean, sitting over here in position? He said, no, you're a special team player. I said, well, don't don't play with me going there with the kickers and stuff. The head coach and the GM and everybody
else liked me, and I made enough plays. But if they don't like you, oh they wait for that one chance and you d o a dead on a ride. Hey what they say, Oh they brought in somebody for me. They traded for somebody.
But there's always been a stigma for Alabama quarterbacks anyway.
You know in the league per se.
Yah, they name me some of the most successful Alabama quarterbacks in the past, like say ten years Geners.
But where did he go?
He had to leave there to become more successful.
They didn't appreciate him the same way that he's being appreciated in the NFL. Right now, all right, so then let's let's talk about we could bring two way into it. It's too a paned out to be the quarterback that they thought he was going to be, you know, and if you just like and I can't name all of them, but I do know.
Let's see what's my man's name. He's also in ESPN right now.
McElroy mac a roh. Greg was not Greg? Wasn't that?
You know? Greg?
And here's an interesting thing, because Nick had two types of systems that that first system he was winning with when you were just really running the ball, and you know that's when you have mark Ingram winning the highst man. He had Trent Richardson out there to when he had to go start spreading the ball around.
I'll say this.
He had a really interesting situation with Jalen Hurts and Jalen's first National Championship game. Jayleen left the field with the lead, Sean Watson went down there and to up that Alabama defensive scored the game. When a touchdown you hate. Had two great quarterbacks, you was only gonna be able to keep one. You know, That's how it worked all
the time. I mean, Justin Fields was at Georgia with that other kid and not Stet's had been it, but the guy before him, you're gonna lose one of them, and he lost him to Oklahoma tour one you know, won him a national championship. They performed well as a coach man. Hell, look at Irban Meyer. You had Dwayne Haskins and Joe Burrow chose Haskins, you know, went to college football player.
Joe left LSU.
I mean, sometimes some of these dudes got that much talent because they that good. And you can debate whether you made the right choice or not here, but ultimately both players are really good. But I understand your premise that Alabama quarterback this, No, they're not.
This is not a factory.
This is not a factory for You're not shop Hey, or this ain't ain't DBU. You know it ain't qbu. It's not that. But Mac Jones.
Going back to the whole thing, Mac fit.
Kyle Shanahan and Chris It called it coming out, and Mike Lombardi had talked about it as well as too, and so finally they get him because Jacksonville last year Mac Jones was forgettable and you're seeing now how a guy fits a system. Kyle's work with with Kirk Cousins did very well. If there's one thing we're now seeing with Lance. He came here to the Cowboys for two years, did nothing spectacular, went to the Chargers, had a decent preseason game, but he's never going to be the guy there.
Unless Justin Herbert gets hurt.
So I think Lance had like forty five snaps in college.
Some crazy you know what I mean?
Trey Lance was the same mistake that Mitchell Trubisky was coming out of North Carolina with thirteen starts, got him playing a football for you to sit around here make him a top three pick. And that's while that we have so much money being spent on scouting and something as simple as saying, oh, let us look at his resume of tape.
Man, it didn't make sense.
That I blame the whole potential error where people started drafting, Oh, you got the measurable. He has the tangibles, like certain positions you can do that in, but it's certain positions you can't. Like as a quarterback, you gotta go do that as a pass his name, Go ahead, say his name, I mean, yeah, Anthony rich No, I'm not doing that.
It's still he's another guy.
Did he have enough starts and enough tape for you to say, let's take him here, and if anything, you may have done that guy a better service by not drafting him so high.
Of course, because then you wouldn't have that pressure of that expect that the expectation like that. It sucks, like especially nowadays, Like I feel like the caliber quarterback Like a lot of these quarterbacks that are coming out now aren't just throw in guys.
You don't have the guys that are.
Ready to come in, Like there are a couple of them that make those steps, but a lot of these guys benefit by going behind the starter, going behind a veter and learning behind them, like to see the mistakes that they're making, but also that game because that that pressure, like who can you say, like look, prime example, think about Cam wore than what he's doing right now. He has he's proven in college that he can do all that.
But even with him proven to him coming to the league, they're doing him a disservice over there at Tennessee saying hey, this is the expectation for you to get in here out of just the caliber quarterbacks is far diminished.
To go back to Bonecks, Oh, Nick, I can it played a lot of football and Nick was.
In school, like how many six that's what I saying.
He played, he said, he's a difference.
He has he has film to where you could say, hey, we can evaluate these guys.
But some of the.
Uh what what whatever happened to the black quarterback that came out of Liberty that or not Willis?
Willis, yeah, was in Tennessee and I is backing up in green back.
Like you're doing them disservice and like this whole drafting non potential thing, I'm sorry, Like who have you played to beat here or two? Like you said, be a guaranteed top three pick or a first round pick at that Willis was the third rounder. Well, I mean, yeah, he's a bad example.
But cam War being an overall number one pick. Me, first off, you get a bad team horrible, so you're the bad team.
Like with Troitan got the cap, we're a bad team Troy oh eleven his first year. But cam Ward's resume football told you he was worthy of the pick. And this guy can play. The jury's not to me.
It's not.
No, no, no, it's not. It's not.
It's just tough right now. But it's more than just hint. When I look at him, like, man, this is just a bad team.
Yes, this is a bad team.
Trey Lance didn't I mean, you didn't have them, and he's had chances that I mean, he couldn't beat Cooper Rush out here. And so much of that to me goes back into hey man, dude, have you been playing some of these guys And this is one other there's another one of these me things. You need to put these dudes in spring football so they can play. These quarterbacks, these quarterbacks at offensive linemen more so than the offensive lineman and you can say d lineman too.
They need to hit. You can't hit out these OTAs.
So the quarterbacks need to play in your interior guys need to be out here hitting.
They should be doing all that and getting the rest because the sitt in college, no more the sitting. We know that at this level of professionalism, they're not really just coaching your own technique that's college and stuff.
They want you to come in ready to play.
So those guys that are on the back end of the roster, some of those guys will benefit, like you said, going to these other leagues or some of the league'es just to get the reps to get in there, to get acclimated to it because the first time that you're telling them to get something or they see anything that significant is in training.
Camp, football players get better.
You know.
My only argument with that is this, you know, and this is the reason why the preseason was always the way that had been up for since the NFL started, you know, once you start going to these other leagues. And I know about this because after my first year in Tennessee, Jeff asked me to go to the World League. And it was one of those type of situations where I was like, why do you want me to going to the World League And he was like, well, I just think, you know, the reps would do you so good.
And of course my position coach was telling me like, nah, you don't need to do that. So I had a conversation with my dad. I'm like, hey man, they you know, Jeff asked me to go to the World League. So we sit down and we do the math on it, and we looked at it. In structure, that's thirty three weeks of football. It's fifty four weeks in a year.
So with those thirty three weeks of football you go through that, don't get an injury, you know, because that could be something that could like either be a detriment to overall career or definitely that season is coming up there anyway, So structurally you know that it is it definitely do them some good. But at the same time that we're in arrators are putting on a body and we're talking about now safety of the game, you know, being the main thing right now.
So you know that's a that's a tough thing to do.
And the only thing you gotta get a break, You gottaet break, gotta get a break in here. And also I want to go over a couple of names of the Cowboys could have to look to uh on the offensive line that fans need to be a pit tent to come Sunday. He's Anthony Door says Trade War New. because you've got TJ. Bass already starting at right tackle for the injured Tyler Booker who's out with.

And then you've got brock hoffin as a starter who's in for Cooper BB he's out with a high ankle spring. So a Keen identity number seventy five, okay, right there? Down seven five? Never heard, so seventy five is uh yes, So seven five can be out there as was one of your backups. And then you've got Trevor Keagan. Okay, Trevor Keegan is another player to be looking out for number seventy six. So seventy five and seventy six could
be guys that end up playing. So seventy one is Nate Thomas, seventy five is a Keema Denergy, and seventy six is Trevor Keegan.
These are now you're going way down the backup list.

You got, you got that return game, you got you gotta look out for, you know, Blake Jay and Blue has been really good in terms of, you know, what they believe he can do with speed and trying to replace some of what Turp's got. And then of course you got to go back to Miles Sanders who Sanders Who's done it, but he's been hurt too, So fresh Legs, yeah, fresh legs, and so Blue Blues will get his opportunity this week.
Course, I'm excited to see you. I I'm excited to see don't let him make too many plays. Now what they say, missed that job one't they And all of a sudden you be over there looking like brock Purty.
At least he got the bag.
It's just good to know that if you got if, he's actually another weapon that could actually help out this offense.
And so so the thing about they paid Turps so exactly. So that's all I'm saying. You got the Brock party situation, like you pay it's like it's your starting job. But it's like, you know how somebody does so good where it's like you're gonna get this year and at the beginning of next year we see any inkling of regress.
Oh, let's get about this contract. Yeah, it's the young bulls turn.
I don't know Turberoll pro that's gonna be hard to move off off that and and what we saw at him in the Philadelphia game, Oh, you know that's that would be tough. A Chemadnagy by the way, Uh he's from Kansas tackle from Kansas, undrafted free agent by Cleveland in twenty twenty five. Trevor Keegan is in uh he's from Michigan. His second year. He's from the University of Michigan, and he was with Philadelphia last year. So that that's what you got there. And then of course, uh, Nate Thomas.
Nate Thomas is from Louisiana. This is second year. They drafted him in the seventh round last year. So look, you're you're when you're talking about these three gentlemen, these are you know, these are these are bottom You're you're you're charge in terms of your offensive line. These are these guys at the bottom of the roster, and so they could be could be seen some time in the game.
We could see.
Thomas is going to be active here, he'll be on the roster, active roster, So we're gonna have start to see about what happens with a dyenergy and kick it. Interesting thing and Nick Harris talked about on the media Mash yesterday is you only get so many practice squad designations. So if you have to take some of these guys off the practice squad or put them up on the on the active roster, you know that's it's it's challenge man. So and then you talk about on the other side defensively, well,
expect juan Ye Thomas to start from Lee Hooker. What about Kenneth Murray, So he got to play where's your trust level with him? And so there's a lot This is a walking wounded team. And Brian Schottenheimer talked about it going into this Jets game that they have to try and figure out how how do you piece this thing together and win? If you're the Cowboys, the San Francisco forty nine ers, or an excellent team to look at and say, hey, look.
Guys, figure it out.
If you're out there on this on this football field, figure it out, Go win the game.
Get some grit.
There's gonna be a lot of opportunity out there. But if I'm if I'm just looking at it coming in, it's like, oh, man, look at this deal, look at this office line we got coming in here. Oh a year or two year in Oh, he don't know what he he still wet behind the ears. This is fresh meat and they're gonna have a big task. But I'm more so, like you said, I'm more so worried about that safety position.
That's where it's like.
You wear everything, old line. There's all there should be. Not you're you should be worried. The only thing you shouldn't be worried about is Brandon Aubury and.
That right now, Dak is playing. Dak is playing some of some great football. Right now, Here's what I worried about, Dak. You can deck so much, man, it's just gonna have some.
Effect on you.
I you know that they've they've done a good job, but you guys have played in lead. You can only do so much shuffling this It look.
At only so many spades you got in that hand.
Look at the secondary right now. They keep shuffling, but still they still.
Ain't that still trying.
It won't work, you know, But that being said, like until it actually happens. And we said this a little bit ago, that that offensive line has been shuffling since the preseason started, and they've they've found a way.
To mass that.
I said, you hadn't had to go to this level.
True, you haven't.
True, that's you start talking to Dynnergy and Keegan.
Keegan, Now mind you like I think you said his second year, dude, but he was with Philly last year.
I mean he came here, got his ring, the.
The the the the the boutom playing time that he didn't get last year in Philly. But being on that squad and being around that that whole championship environment, if he was on that squad the entire year, there was some value for them to keep him there, regardless if he was a backup or not.
So I don't know.
Maybe they're that good at developing and maybe they drafted someone that they didn't need him. But here he is coming, and I just pushed back on it. He's come here and he hadn't been able to crack out TJ basketball brock Offin he's still behind him.
