Player's Lounge: Worried About Zeke?

We're in there, all right, tell us about it, first person available, Zi Yelli. So Mike McCarthy came out today and said, okay, he's now practicing's got an issue. So he and go deep into it, said got talk to the players if you want to get more information about exactly what it is.

Um here's the biggest takeaway from it. Zeke said, I'll I'll go through the week and we'll make a decision towards the end of the week about whether or not I want I play because I want to play play through pain. But yep, we'll see where we're at. I'll sound good at night. And he was asked a very good question, do you take this week off considering you've got the bye week they should give you need two weeks of rest, and he answered it in the player type of way. I don't really think about that. We

will oper out that operate that way. I'm just gonna go, you know, through the process here and just see where I'm at. But really that's the play, hey man. Because McCarthy keeps talking about, you know, it's a long season. You're trying to get Zeke to the end. I'm worried about the Bears. But if Zeke can't, you know, if you want Zeke long, you know, come December, then maybe this is the week you you sit him down, you play Tony Pollard, um and you you go from there

and you bring up the other back. Yeah, you know, it doesn't sound so good. We'll get into you know, can Poler's shoulder to load and all that good stuff. But as far as as far as Zeke is concerned with this injury, um, you never want to hear a player talking about, yeah, we gotta go through the process or you know, I gotta I gotta see where we react later on in the week. That usually means to me that he's either in some pain or he doesn't.

He's probably ninety eight percent short that he's not gonna play. I mean, we've heard him from Zeke and the four before when he had that PCL injury. You know, he was all, I'm a workhorse. I'm gonna go out there. I'm gonna do what I do. I'm gonna be there for my teammates. But just a simple and he spoke like that too, Okay, because you put a little bit in there. Yes, yes, I want to be out there. But I just the more he spoke berries, the more

it's just it's more in doubt. Last year. I you think about last year, the guy played in painted, what did it give him? Criticized a lot, a lot of criticis and it was unwarranted when you start to say, Okay, this guy was in true pain but decided tough it out. But people, you know, you know, they don't see that. Man. I mean you slow, you know, I mean, you're on the field, you're healthy. This guy's out here. Let me

take this knee. Come on, let's go. I mean it's hard, it's hard, man, So I just I have to think that stays in the back of his mind. Man, without a doubt, without a doubt. You know, I'm curious about it. I want to know, and I'm sure, definitively they won't tell us through the end of the week. We won't know until game day. But just going based off of Zeke's history dealing with injury, he is one tough son

of a gun. And I saw that play in super slow mode and we are lucky that it did not have more ramifications on his knee because it looked like the way that it bent back, it didn't looked good, right. And the fact that he finished the game scored two touchdowns, that just again echoes the kind of toughness that we're dealing with as a football player. He played with on the PCL for a whole year. Okay, so we can't

doubt this man's toughness. We know where he is. But you know, look, sometimes you get what you asked for, you get what you asked for. We've wanted this audition from Tony Pollard, and maybe this is the one. Okay, I don't. I don't want that situation to happen simply because Zeke's value on this on this offense is too faceted, right, It's toofold. He he's the tough yards, but he's also your swing tackle. Okay, he's your best blocking back, he's

your sixth offensive lineman. And we're gonna get into your guy Ebra flush and is go get loose, and you're gonna need somebody in there to protect him. We talked about Tony Pollard and I I chalked it up to gamesmanship with having to have him in on passing downs that you know you didn't want to basically tip your hand to hell with gamesmanship. You better have somebody in there that can block, because we got Dak backing. We don't want to lose him again because somebody misses a block.

All right, So let's let's put all these things in perspective. But also, I guess and even like bringing it, bringing it a little bit higher on the whole Zeke thing. I think you know, Zeke has situational awareness. He understands what's going on in the league with him where he is in his career. Everything that's happening. If you are aware of your situation, like Dalton Schultz was the other day when he went back in on his knee. I believe Zeke is in the same place, so he can't

miss any of this time. He knows how valuable this is. And so no matter what he's saying, I know that he knows his value to this offense. Right now, Malik Davis, get ready, because even if Zeke plays, you're gonna need to have Davis to go along with Pollard because you don't know how you know, you can't absolutely you can't assume he can go the whole the whole way. So um, this is this is why you have depth on your football team. This is why it all matters. I mean

it all, It all matters. Who's there, man, who's on your practice squad? I mean you have to build parcelsa. You're constantly churning the bottom of your roster. Guys are gonna have to play at some point in time. You don't know who we're gonna win. I I was in the locker room. I walked out and I almost stopped to talk to him because nobody was talking Davis Cooper Rush stop. I ain't nobody cameras all waiting on Hankins down there. It was all good just a week ago.

You gotta stop and get that exclusive NEWI so I was gonna stop by, and I saw Nevil Gallen was like, you gotta you know, Nevils, you gotta wait right and I gotta get I gotta get over here. So I only got a limit of time, so I gotta go to play blood Rush straight up. Haven't trying to have a converse. I think Jalen Told was walking by. He was just kind of he was just sitting the chilling man.

He was just there, you know, there and then there's something players there, you know, I mean like Tristan Hills there, this guy's there. Nobody was coming here. But I I was a little I was going to go over and talk to him, show um some love, man. But then I saw I saw Nevill Gallimore. I was like, well it was on the right, it was on the same side. You had to just buy past. My dog just kept kept kept ket had to keep moving. Man. It's how

locker room is. Man't gotta make choices. We all know, and we all know, man, they are in the room. There are choices to be made, but I did. He wasn't one of your choices. Uh man, it was a Twitter hero on Sunday that certain people like, see he did have made that throw doc over there and now that the locker room a nobody to me, even Carey was baby. You hate to see it. I think brand Sham ended up stopping Davids to gonna get him sut with Davids. Ain't nobody what cold world just sitting there

chilling man, you know cold world out here. Dak was over the people around Dak and Zeke. Yeah, but but Cooper was all and that little little park Man was all alone. McCarthy says something that didn't sound a little different. So anyway, bottom line is the player says he's fine, he's just ready to go. McCarthy today, when I asked about Neville Gallimore's press conference, and you never have enough defensively mean, they're not looking to move him. So Galimore is like,

I don't know anything about trade. I'm just here to work to him. I think so. And let's be honest. Team that has got issues against the run twentieth in the NFL. I don't think you'd be getting rid of anybody right now. You're just trying to stack folks up where you can. Now I'll be interested to see. It's about activating Damon Clark could could play. That's what I got. Hankinson didn't come here not to play. Even though White

McCarthy said today this presscars. Hey, you know Kenny, practice first, like make that trade, Just grab grab a T shirt. So this is good though, this is good right, No, of course you know what. It's good though. I expect that you know, the man I probably have a fantastic week of practice and be ready to go better. Best week of practice he's ever had. Hey, fire, fire has been lit. We've been talking about this man since I've been here. We talk about competition. You get the competition.

You cannot look. They brought Carlos Walkings up and now he's active. He's getting he'd get dressed out for the last couple of weeks. Uh So I mean these this defensive line to me, Uh going into this week versus Chicago. They know what the number one objective is, and that's to stop the run. And I believe every defensive player wakes up with that objective. We're going to stop the run,

but we just there was more to be desired. I think that your linebackers, as d Mac always talked about, man, our linebackers can play better now that you get that beef up front. Hankins is going to be a He's going to be grabbing bodies with him, all right, and that's going to allow our guys to flow and be that much better against a run game that honestly knew me. I'm not that intimidated by No, I'm not. I'm not.

I'm not that intimidated by Chicago's run game. And I feel as though, look, you can't be surprised about something that you know is coming at you. You know that you know what that they don't have anything else other than the run game. I should, but that doesn't concern you. Know, the way they're able to go between them tackles the

athletic quarterback, you know what. I hope that Justin Fields wakes up Sunday morning and believes that he can be do his best Jalen Hurts impersonation, because I think you get your wish on that RPO where you said, hey, y'all, y'all, first, I want to gay we need to get that ran back again. We want to see them come in do that same thing. Believe you can do that two hundred and forty three yards against a well coached football team

in New England. I'm worried. You're worried. I'm worried, moving bodies, the legit. The Detroit Lions, well, you know, the turnovers ended up killing them. They made it a football game till the fourth quarter. You know they're running with their backup guy. I'm worried. But Khalil Herbert coming in here, and I'm worried with Dave Montgomery. So I'm not saying that I'm not picking the Bears to win, but at this point in time, I'm more than saying, Okay, this is not this is not ten and a half that

Vegas initially had up on Sunday. No, no, no, no, no, no no. Uh. This is gonna be a football game. It's gonna be a fight and them running the ball until the Cowboys can show me they can stop. Hey, Heck, they went out made a trade for a reason. Okay, if everything was all good in the hood, they wouldn't have said. Hey. Something's there. Heck, so all right, this players loss. What I'm trying to understand, new it is that with the same lips, teeth and tongue that you talk about DQ being an immovable object as a coach, it worries you that they that we're twentieth ranked in the Russian defense, but you don't point to the other things that makes this defense and elite defense. So that I mean, you

can't have it both ways. So I don't understand you know what I'm saying, You can sell me ocean front property in Nebraska if you can sell me on both of those things being true at the same time. Know what I can say you ocean front property and myrtle beat South Carolina and tell you, hey, it's really nice to guess what it's hot as hell in July and August. Yeah, there can be drawbacks, there can be warts on anything. So your defense is really good, but it's not perfect.

M But listen, but listen to how you how you put that. It's not perfect, but yet we are the other areas that you are saying that Chicago will have no success if they do this. If Dan Quinn is everything that you're saying that he is, this Chicago shouldn't worry you. What have we seen? Um? What have we seen? If you're going to beat the Cowboys, we need to do and you gotta stick with the run. That's the

thing that teams haven't stuck with it. You know Detroit had it going and what did they do second half? Come out, Let's throw the ball deeper golf. I don't understand. I'm assuming you're like me. Did you think Bill Belichick's a really good football coach? I do. I also also saw Bill Belichick go out there with an offense that has nothing, zero roll. They gave the ball back. The turnover was a horrible turnover. Their office had not They

could not give their defense any reprieve. If you leave your defense out to drive that many times, guess what you will get scored on? True. If I wake up Monday morning, I see that you rushed for two hundred and forty three yards, I don't have to look at the other other side. I will assume that you lost that game, at least you took possession. Feel a time

of possession. Yeah, two hundred and forty three yards on a Bill Belichick team, and they knew exactly what you you know, Bill, what we're gonna stop you run the ball? We know what we know what you're gonna do. Chicago trying to run the ball. They could not stop it. And yes, their offense put them in bad positions and

shitting there, changing the quarterbacks they didn't help them. But the fact that they ran for two hundred forty three yards, I'm concerned because this is a cowboy team, that's what. Given it wasn't one one seventeen or one oh seven or the last four or five ball games right now, I mean, it's not good. And they made a trade this week because there they know it's not good. So why why would that not worry? You're going to you're sleep in the night, real good like worry about it.

I got DQ, I think you've been you can't you had DQ this long? And guess what they still do a running? They still running right and running right up there. So so even they know we're not where we want to be. Okay, that is a concern to me. That's a concern if I'm a lawyer and I'm making my case right now, I've got guys exhibit A dice. They're gonna come after us right here, and our defense has got how do we fix this medal? Right here? Every team's got warts. Your job as a coach, he's a

cover up. The warts got that from Chuck Dailey, by the way. Okay, come up the ward to come up the wars. Okay, they got a ward right now by defense. Yes, in the league. You don't think it's wart. You ain't top ten in the league's twenty. I'm going with it. I'm going with it. It's a ward. But I'm looking at everything. But you can't be quiet as a church mouse on the other things that get you to elite status and did get sacked? Okay, talk about it? Amen, Amen, Hey,

And they're fixing it. And not only traditional runs. It's it's the scrambles, it's the quarterbacks ad living and let me go ahead and get up out of here. We see what Daniel Jones was able to do, Hurts, Jalen Hurts was able to do against

this Cowboys team. And I gotta say Fields, remember that. Ye look, let it go. I don't want to remember Mitchell Ubisky. He did Josh Josh Allen that Thanksgiving game. Really Oh it's just Buffalo. Oh it was Buffalo running the stampede right through. So so I'm just so I'm saying I am concerned, worried. Address it. They've addressed it. Let's see where you're going. Improved Cowboys will still get the dub you know, It's just right. I don't know to sit up here say all right, you know ten

and a half points. No, I wouldn't be going out. But not the way you put a you know, the w you put on that worry was like I'm worried. I ain't worried. I ain't worried. It's not slightly concerned. I'm slightly concerned about the I want to see. We saw the packers take that in, and I thought they should. So what I don't want, especially the Cowboys get ready to go into to the bye week, is to see this run Chicago come up, he and roll up you know, one hundred fifty yards. So don't see that. they're going to have to win. They're going to have to run. If they don't run, they don't win. About Chicago, yes, yeah, yeah, they are so yeah, You're going to pass all over the happening. You know. He was under that rod Man and Nellie scheme, which means that this defense basically they're gonna be flying around Like I talked about loves, how Michael Parsons was handing out loves last week. They don't believe in that. So this defense is gonna fly around. They're gonna play as a unit. Um. And what Dak Prescott has got to be got to be not worried, but just in the back of his mind. He's got to think this because they do a lot of pre

snap motion. They like to disguise a lot of their defenses to make sure they don't get a quarterback to study gay before the testing. And you know, if you're going against a quarterback like Dak Prescott, who's one of the better quarterbacks in the league. You show them what you're playing, he's gonna pick you apart. He's gonna tear you apart. So to me, even Fluse, he's gonna come in here trying to disguise his defenses. You're gonna see a lot of stunts on the defensive line with linebackers

and all that good stuff. They're gonna play a lot of zones, so it's gonna be a lot of tight windows that Prescott's gonna have to throw into. But overall his defense is gonna be flying. They're gonna be flying. They're always a solid defense up there in Chicago. They got some stars on that side of the ball. So I can't wait to see what we can do offensively against that Eberflus defense man. Well, it's death taxes and Chicago Bears have a defense right always. It's just the

way things are, you know. And and I like ebra flu So I liked him when he was here as a coach. I liked him when he was in Indianapolis. And just going back to when we played him in his defense in twenty eighteen, he had them boys humming and they come in and he has some guys on his team that I believe that can't give you problems. They have Roquan Smith, that linebacker. He's a blitzing linebacker.

He does he does it all basically. But and that's why the importance of Ezekiel Elliott is almost because they are going to and especially if they know he's out, they're gonna blitz the heck out of the Dallas Cowboys. And so look, I think most teams right now, they're sitting those two safeties high, daring, bloating the box up. They want to take the runaway immediately. Uh, they want to force Dak to make those those small window throws.

He's gonna have to make throws. It's gonna be important that our tight ends get involved, just like they did last week. Um, but you can't allow for their defense to tee off on you. Let's not forget. Also, they have a Quinn as well, Robert Quinn. You see what he's able to do here. Former Cowboys. Yeah, no relation to Dan, but but twenty three check it out, man, I swear quis from the Carolinas. You know, Robert Quinn. It's a guy that can definitely stretch you on the edge.

And so we've already seen the Smith have his trouble. Uh and with those elite pass rushers, he can handle a guy. But we've seen him with some elite competition where he had he's had some some trouble. So again another trial by fire for our offensive line. But I just feel as though, sticking to Kellen, we're trying to trust you, brother, and you have to continue with this running game and you have got to run at these guys and that's what's gonna give us. That's what's gonna

make them respect play action. That's where everything else is gonna start to open up for this offense. But I think that this defense in the four three that they play, I think you can run at this at this defense and have success later in the throwing gain. And that's and that's why I think, you know, if Zeke isn't able to play, it's gonna be a huge loss man, because as a defense, I don't know. I make fun of him sometimes they talk about three yards and a

cloud of dust. But the way he's tender rising defenses. Ye first quarter, second quarter, shore, I'll go up there, I'll hit him head on. We can take this guy. Only ain't nothing. Third in the fourth quarter that starts to wear down on your defense. D line linebackers, safeties that coming to run in the box to fit against

the run. He wears these down, those guys down, and that's where you see Pollard being able to hit those big runs because guys are like, yeah, you know why, I'm gonna stay on this block a little bit longer. And then that gives Poulard the extra juice in second he needs to escape. So if Zeke is not able to play, it's gonna be It's gonna be a tough one. It's gonna be a tough one. How many carries would be too many carries for Tony Pollard if he starts

twenty five? Man get mall he can? Mustard must because this is his audition. Basically, if Zeke doudn't wite, this is his audition for everybody, if you can be a bell cow back. We asked Tony in the media session. You know, he said, I'm ready for whatever they get me. Ready to go. Then Todd Arch ast me how many carries you've ever had, you know, the most carrige you ever had against it? Don't know? He said, seventeen, Wake force,

Wake force. The last time he had, Yes when he was playing a minute play against weak four, so that seventeen archer already had the answer to the question. Oh wow, that's a long time ago, and you're talking about wake forward compared to Chicago Bears. Boy, it's gonna be thumping. Yeah. Who so so that tells me right there, I love it. It's that gonna be there. Oh, here you go, t Pete Never, No, it's gonna be a two back sex committing all right, right here we go, here we go.

So yeah, yeah, don't don't for anybody, anybody with a fantasy out there. You're gonna turn. You're gonna get twenty. You're gonna get twenty. Now you think he's gonna be more than involved in the passing game. I think he's gonna run the ball for sure. Yeah, but but just this this primy okay, Zeke's guns, we're just gonna transferred all of you. No, I don't think that's gonna be

the case. But you know what I want to give want to say this is about Tony Poller, the way that we thought that Keller Moore needed to use him. He's done it. He's got him out and on those will rosters all last week he got got him out in the flat, uh and expose them got him in the passing game. So I mean that's where I think you get the most out of Tony Pollard, to use him like that, at this whole notion that he could be, you know, three down guy. I don't, I don't. I

don't see it. Um. But but again, this is if if he's gonna do it, this is his week to audition for it. If Zeke's not there, and don't be afraid to dump the ball down. I mean, like you said, this four three defense that Chicago runs, they're gonna have those two safeties up high and they're gonna try to keep everything in front of you.
