The following. Here's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club Cowboys. This is the Player's laud broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star. Now your hosts, Darry Church, Danny mccraig, heck Ma Harrison and knew He Scruggs play sound free Agency season. Let's run, Let's get it home. Danny mccraig is here, heck My Harrison is here, Barry Churchy yeah scrugsd alrighty A lot to get into. Let's start with Mike McCarthy
going to the combat. He's not gonna asks how we're doing. I'm my boy. Let me get our takeson. Garrett out of how we doing? Guy, I ain't saying the guy he only win this one. And though before we started the show, he was already hating, so I already know what time. I already know the Spish player hat his ball. We were just conversating. But because it happened to be his city, sound hate but just bro I said. He was said it's the greatest city in Texas. Okay, and
if you don't believe that, that's fine. He said he was trash who I'm He didn't say, we were talking about traffic, that's what we were talking about. Just to get ad context. No, No, the context says Okay, I said what he said. You know what, I probably went the wrong way. You know, I didn't know you know enough about what I said. Has he changed his opinion yet as I continue talking, No, you haven't convinced him. That's what you're trying to do. You have failed to
convince him of that. But I mean, I gat good food, good stuff to do. He hyped up the rodeo, hyping up all. He's still saying trash. Okay, I've never had a bad timing, he bro I've never had a bad time. If I could afford to roll like that, then it's a whole nother deal. When you bc right about that, it's rare. The last time I was in Houston, I think I stayed at the Fairfield in because that was all that was. It was out there, spring or whatever. Because because a super Bowl in Houston, I just say,
man out in the wooland he's out of door. Are you happy to try to get try to get yourself a hotel in the super Bowl? You know, in less than two and a half weeks before. That's where you're gonna be any in any city gonna be wed So, so your argument is based off super Bowl traffic. No no, wait we didn't. I didn't go to sup but we would stayed at the Fairfield in we were in the super Bowl. No so, so we were there Saturday night. You know that was that That traffic, wasn't I mean
first time that was. That's a whole different a city. The way a city gets shut down during the super Bowl. It's a total different deal in Houstons. I mean no, first off, you go to any super Bowl city prepared for traffic to just be totally shut down. Um, but that wasn't the big deal there, No, no, no, I was that was fine. Just playing with you man. Bottom line, can we not go back to get back to look at the night Eminem? Tell them once a week, you know,
makeing a little sense. You know, see how you doing? Check in? You know what saying people, Hey us, how we're doing guys? Yeah, hey, I'm doing good. It's good man. How we doing today? You should you should be a beautiful day. Well we're talking about you know, played by play trying to see he was on some basketball this week because it's all these conference tournaments coming on, and we got a bunch of them here, so we got
the conference. He was a tournament's gonna be right here at the Star where we're doing a broadcast right here. So they do the men's and women's tournaments right over there, man. So that's very unique concept that they have. And then the American Athletic Conference is doing theirs over Dickies and for or on the tournament out there, So that's pretty cool. I enjoyed it fat living here in the town where we got a lot of bass. I'm big college basketball,
gat haven't. Haven't spent a lot of time grow up on number one, just because yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what you have. H is coming to the Big twelve. Just you know who the head coach is. I'm saying, you know who the coach to Sampson Sampson, Kelvin Sampson. Yeah, Way graduated from. I want to talk to Way graduate from. I don't know. Please enlighten us everybody that I don't want to winning the reality shows. You put that clue together quick one. I bet you
ain't listening to the lights over there game. Actually, his wife is now man with the trust. I didn't talk to her because she was on the board when they their lights back to Mike mccarth got back to So Mike McCarthy goes to the combine. You want to know the truth, man, tell you the truth. The people are mad about what they heard. The man sat there and told you, Hey, I like Kellen Moore. I used to be Kellen Moore. Kellen Moore, want to run up points, want a number one offense. I used to be that.
But I want a Super Bowl. I want to run the ball. I want to protect my defense. Man, head coach, I see it differently. What he's saying there is what I've had other coaches talk to me about, especially in the college level, about dealing with dudes who are gurus who want to run up and show off they plays, and I feeling like, man, this dude was scoring the under the bus. This is what's happening. That's me. Then you go ahead, Church a go ahead, because I want
to know. I feel like this is deflecting from the real problem. But I'm not going to talk about the room. Head. Give it all out there, baby, give it. Wasn't this team a top ten rushing team overall. Yes, they were a top ten rushing rooms. Isn't the goal in the NFL to score as many points as you can? No, that's not the goal scoring more points than the other team. Okay, So and they were one of the top teams that scoring points. Is that correct? True? So what's the problem.
There's what is the what's the problem? Now? You watch the games like we watched the games, okay, and those games where you put up forty on Minnesota, they can they can change the average a lot those games when you put up fifty on it, like they changed it. But when he came to the times when you really needed to put us some points against some really good defenses over the last few years, whose fault is that? McCartney just said, Hey man, is that killer Moore? That's
what this is. This is just blazing to me. My quarterback I hit throwing interceptions. We don't have the receiver, the receiving quarter that we thought we had. So how can you then adapt to make sure that Okay, since we can't do that, our quarterback ain't protecting the ball, Let's lean on our defense and make sure that we in every driveway to kick. How can we do that killer. He didn't do that. He didn't do it. He didn't
do it. I can see if we weren't even in attempts you, I can see we weren't even attempting to run. The statistics get in the way. Go back to two years ago when they were scoring forty against the NFC East, it was struggling againstbody else. And then when they had to play the winning team, like talking about the Kansas City game. When I went up there today played Kansas City defense did enough for you defensive way offense could score. But then you gonna go ahead and play the Giants
and roll forty on them and fifty on them. There was an imbalance about Arizon. The problem is that we acting like these plays that are being drawn up just ain't working. Because for some reason we understand why they're working. But if it's not working, if it's if it's consistently. As you're going into the season, you said, man, we're in week seven and this ain't working. All right? We leading the league in pixus to do it and came back. We cannot protect the ball. What do we need to
do to make sure we get this on track? You played for defense corners and say, you know what, Brod, We're going back to the basics. We're gonna we're gonna slim down the playbook because what we're doing right now ain't working. And we never saw that happen with Keller Moore calling the place we know saying, man, that got seventeen. He said, man, he gonna take care of the ball this time. We give him another opportunity to go out there though, three pieces in the game. So if you so,
what else can you do as an offer? If you're a top ten in attempts and rushing the football as well as you're putting up pots, what else can you do? You're attempting to run the football? Is that? I mean, you're you're attempting to run the foot You're not running it enough? Y No, no, no. The thing that I
think that you what you what's your point now? Churchill is right because you're taking the sample size based off of the statistics, and where you're going is we're handing this offense over to Dak and he's turning the ball over all right, this throw pretty much after missing five games through more interceptions than any quarterback UH with in last season. My thing was when I listened to Mike McCarthy.
What I think he was just basically pointing out is that as a head coach, his responsibility is totality taking care of the team, you know, playing complimentary football, so to speak. All right, but I'll give you I would sum it up like this. When you look at let's say the dan Quinn Super Bowl, they had satistically, mathematically, analytically, there's no way you lose that Super Bowl. If Shanahan does well, run the ball, all right, that's that's going
to win you a super Bowl. As damn near impossible mathematically to do that. Now you look at Shanahan as a head coach of San Francisco, he don't call plays like that because he's a head coach and he's also thinking about his defense. Just one more think about the Seattle Super Bowl, Seattle versus New England. Now that's Atlanta. That's one less Super Bowl ring for Brady and Belichick. Then you go to the Seattle New England. You're on the one yard line and your OC calls a what
on the one yard line? And so I think what michaelmccarthy is basically saying is being reckless at certain points in time in the season. They just left the defense out to drive. We have one of the best defenses, but you just don't call plays the way that Kelly
Moore did. And I'm sure if Dan Quinn probably echoed that what he said, like if you call that dumb one more time, and that was through the sea and you're looking at it from the numbers, but just based off of the eyeball test, there were certain players that they called that you just it was had scratches through the seas. Let me build on what you said about Shannonhead.
Go back to when he was in the Super Bowl as a head coach, had a ten point lead against Kansas City and he gonna have Jimmy Garoppolo throwing the ball. Garoppolo missed pass, kans City get the ball right back. They go next thing, you know, Patrick, but the being and they go win the game. And even the Kansas City defenders are like, yeah, man, glad they started running that thing here running this so much of it is
what these it is situational. So yeah, you could tell me, man, we were top ten, But where were you in the county? And I think, and I go back to when you got I think you were on a team with with with Romo and DeMarco Murray. Romo's best year was DeMarco was an NFL offensive MVP because they ran the ball the more Dack and Romo through When you check their record when they throw over forty passes, it's a losing record, even when even when Troy was here. There is something
to be balanced. And if we don't think that Dak is in the elite quarterback, if you're not, if you're not putting him in that Mahomes and Rogers, you need to be running the ball more effectively. And as Danny talked about, you see, man, you're getting them shots that he's still throwing picks. You know what we're gonna do. Let's take that ball out your hand a little bit more. Run that thing and keep your defense off the field. This is not a defensive needs to be out there
thirty plus minutes. I don't think there. But was this ad an extreme you're talking about, you know, running it in circumstances and all that good stuff, But was this team dominant in the ground, Like we can say, all right, you know what, Dad, you're struggling right now, Just turn around and hand and football off. How many times did we see Zeke go three yards in a cloud of dust? You know? I mean, how many let's run this day? We got? We got t Yeah, we did, we did.
There was in the Pro Bowl running the football, just in totality what he was able to do catching the ball out of the backfield as well, I think I think when that happens. What you also have to say is, Mike McCarthy is a Super Bowl winning coach watching killing Moore called plays, maybe saying, okay, can we get a little bit more creative with the runs? Did we have the most creative run game in the league? But how But when you go back to his Super Bowl, how
did he get there be something in the ground game? No, No, he's been in the lab. Now, if you if you're talking, if you're talking about running the ball, you been in the lab. And let's say, let's say you've been studying teams who who who had great defenses and they were able to run the ball. Right, So you are looking at a Shanahan type of offense and you're saying, hey, man,
it's our running game, this creative. Do we have the weapons to be able to duplicate what they're doing with a Deebo, Sam, you are are the running back by committee? When they come in, I would say, no, we don't. I would say our running game was less creative than
our passing game. I think most of the creativity was, hey man, how are we gonna line up four guys out here, five guys out here and kind of trick them, dick them and see how we can get this defensive kind of you know, lose sight of somebody versus, hey man, can we run missdirection that somebody that nobody's seen before?
We can get the linebackers out of position. Because we always seem seemed to be that team right when if we pursued too fast, then teams will catch us and that we're pursuing kind of, you know, use the cutbacks on us. Did we did we do that? I was like, man, Tony Pollard in the game, all right, we know that's where it's going, all right, Zeke in the game, we know it's going right there. Yeah, And they became predictable
a lot in the season. But it's I think it's just what I guess what we're talking about is was what he said Shade at Kellen, and I thought I didn't think it was I didn't think it was. I thought as much as people perceived it to be that way, I thought he was just, you know, basically stating the obvious about how you're supposed to take care of your football team, especially when you have a lead or you you know, wherever you are in the football game. But
I do understand what I agree with you completely. The creativity and the running game wasn't there. They They ran a lot of outside zone when Polo was in and it was more power when Zeke was in the game. Fullbacks to boom fourth than one my man. Zeke was lined up at fullback, you know, every every time. And that's where I think a lot of times with this the offensive play calling for Kelly Moore was so maddening. Is that the it just sputtered you didn't It didn't.
They didn't have an identity. Even looking back over last season. What was the identity of this team? What were they that you know, blood to bone? What were they good at? True? Well, what they were good at saying was all right, man, they extension of the running game. And that started in week one of the season. We all said in his and everybody's like, hey man, Tampa Bay got a great defense. We ain't gonna be able to run it against the so we're gonna have an extension of the running game.
We got through a bubble screen, at the bubble screen, at the bubble screen, and everybody came here Saturday. I'm talking about Yeah, Yeah, that's I mean, that's the running game. That's the running game. Two years later to a year later, Mike called me talking about, Hey man, we need to run the ball ball So what you think big Mike was thinking? After that Press Company say, man, we threw the ball a fet the time we lost the game, and we talked about we ran the ball well because
we did extensive on the Hura Running Game. And as Mike got criticism, I went back into this and we kind of talked about this, and nobody's beat this one home more than Danny. You hired a dude who was a play caller and he's not calling the plays in front of the beginning. Yeah, what what are we doing other than I? And it's just just me. I believe he sat there and just like, yeah, man, Kelling Moore. To hire Kelling Moore? Where I went? So you get
the job? The man said, he looked the Jets and Cleveland Browns told you know, so after you losing jobs and them through franchisees. Man, he's gonna say what they you need to. Oh yeah, you're a genius boy, Genie White. Work with a boy. Um, so you say what you gotta say to get the time. I ain't gonna lie. Man. My first job Nascar, Yeah, man, yeah, I ain't know nothing except for Richard pett bro I't know nothing about Nascar.
I knew that Joe Gibbs on the team. I knew Richard Petty and here Richard Petty win the more races. So dude, I was that black dude out there? Um, the black dude? It was? It was. It was a couple of others, y'all, y'all head down of each other. He can you help me? What's the what's the tire test? Yeah? What's right front? I mean, I ain't know, but you know, I need to say. I need to get their job. So alert, But but look, unaway, unaway, what do you have to do to get the job. Jason Garret was
already hired. I was already hired. You had to say that. So basically the last two guys who come head coach had to take these dudes them called play. What was the question because I want to know what it was asked to him? Like was it you know? Because I feel like I don't know the exact question, but I feel like he could have just been like, you know what, hey, you know, Kellen is gonna have a bright future somewhere else. We're gonna go in a different direction and leave it
at that. Okay, this was the actual question. This is great because when it happened, I asked for I produce, do we have this? Because McCarthy did the podium and then Macholda told me no, this was off to the side or like in the breakfast or whatever, old where they didn't have cameras, people a little more loose, you know, and and and you guys know us very well. How you hear something in writing versus watching someone say it.
I didn't take it as him shading Kelln Moore as much as I'm saying, hey, man, look young play I've been here, man, Hey, this is my job is sent upon dialogs who players this we're gonna do. It's a head coach. I think differently. It's it's it's maybe you studied this win in school. In your business school with the zoom in, zoom out, mccarthur, us zooming out. You look at it the whole thing you Kellen Moore us zooming in because we were put us some points. That's
what we do. And McCarthy saying, man, I need as a play calle to win championships, you gotta zoom out. And when you're young, you don't really know that. And he it wasn't like he was on a super Bowl team here or anywhere else in his career in Detroit. That's how I I didn't take it as a slam. I think Kelly mo Wharton him, we'll go to go to LA and be good. Yeah, I think you're good luck. I can't Keller More and Herbert now, I can't Baby Show. I think he would be good. You're gonna have him
on the show. The head coach will get everyone fired. Oh yeah, No, I want none of that. I want none of that. I don't want to know. You're already trying to hand the camp I don't want to hit. I want don't. He's not gonna let that man have no out, no out campin already. No, it's going to be allowed. Keenan Allen might not be the head coach. Not good, but Keller more doesn't Herbert, they hold them back four to nine. He gonna let keller Morena call the play and you good like that Zeke player gonna
be snapping the ball. See that ain't way? So who can come on? Man O? The Big Mike raised ahead of you. Believe Big Mike came up with the last play that we saw this season when Zeke lined up at center. You think it was Big Mike absolute okay? Not raised your hand if you think it was Keller Moore's ideal bom and on that. Let's take our first break. Loud Gold that guy radio. But Smoothie King's Original Angel

Donovan Wilson's name was mentioned to Cowboy Two free agents, two free agents got no faith? Derek car Yeah yeah, Derek Carter saying good good luck with them. Um, Michael Thomas, what doesn't happen last time it last time
you've been doing the last time he did saving. You ain't put him, You ain't had him on your fantasy team, and he won't touch exactly, so der right, Yeah, yeah, so neither one gona your fantasy team. Um, I said before, man, not like Dalton shows. Let me think he's done a fantastic job for where he was drafted. But he paid him ten million dollars last year camp on the franchise tack. You got the two rookies that show you they can play. I just say you let Dalton Sholts go. This is
a very good tight end draft. Um, that big old boy from Georgia, say, yeah, that was a massive child when I saw him, Like this is somey's child twenty one, twenty one, Yes, but this is a good tightened class. This is a good tightened class, and the Cowboys, in my opinion, have done a really good job of being able to identify that ends because you got a great
coach that identifies tight ends as well. So, I mean, you come up with schottenferg this year, and I'm sure they didn't They couldn't look down into the future to realize that they were going to get that kind of production out of those two young guys. And that that's we talked about that all season. That's what made shows expendable. Not that Shows didn't have a hell of a year,
not that he's not the quarterback's best friend. I just believe that when you look at the roster, you recognize that, look, you got two young guns that you If you stay with these guys on these rookie contracts that you have, man, you're gonna get a lot of production out of these guys. And plus this tight end group is pretty talented. As you talk about the guy from I ain't gonna call him a child grown man from Georgia's child. Wait till he become a grown man. Once you get up here,
they start utilizing that tastically. They poor tcut mean maybe I mean, well, that was the brotherhood and the one the other the other man who white guy was just killing. Everybody was like, oh my god, stop it. It was a mismatch. It was, it was, it was. It was the ninth grade team and the varsity that I had faith I have faith in and you know, impossibly bringing back sholtz Uh for a while. I can say that's about about two percent now, two percent one the price tag,
two the young talent we have on the roster. Three. Mike McCarthy said, we're going to focus on being a running team, you know what I mean, And that is not a strength about man shots. Um, you know, getting out there lining up in the formation and blocking a defensive end that that is not his specialty. Even lining up out there at number one trying to block guys in space on the bubble screen, that is not his specialty.
And I think that's that's that's ultimately, that's what's gonna be the reason that that him up out of here. But I'm just telling him and they got they got a special relationship, but you can't block on the running team. Man, You about it though, it's a rap and then look, you know, you guys hit dollar show. So I'm not going to add on to that. But when you talk about Donovan Wilson, that's the other one, right, Donald Wilson. I love his game. I love his game. He's a
thumper and forcer, comes downhill, he's cracking skalls. I mean, the guy's the type of guy you want to go into trenches with. But when you look at that that tag or you know what the safeties are getting, that's fourteen ms, fourteen ms a year for an enforcer. I can't see that unless you're Cam Chancellor and the way he was able to, you know, change the dynamic of the game, then yeah, I go ahead and and try
to get a deal done with him. But you know, no disrespect to him, but he's not Cam Chancellor and he's not taking the ball away enough for me to warrant that fourteen tag. Like I could see he's a playmaker, but he's not you know how Earl Thomas wasn't in his day, or Troy Palamala where they're not getting picked and jumping over put the dog. Who's the best roster is it Donovan Wilson. Okay, that's not even the best
one on the roster. Well go ahead, no, no, no, and I guess what I'm when I when I look at Donovan Wilson is you know how it goes when they saw throwing that or you're a box safety, you know what that means. That's that's to insinuate that you can't cover right, you're a downhill guy. And I think with the Cowboys played primarily with with a three safety system this entire season, and of the three, you would look at Donald as the weakest link when it comes
down to coverage. I only say some linebackers can't come up better than you heard. So that's what I mean. So and especially with you know, I heard Jerry talking about this in his interview, just saying how the NFL has evolved into a tight end league and how you're looking for that mismatch. And I'm sorry, I don't know if y'all saw this or not, but Kittle better baptime. You know it was. It was yo, And everybody's trying.
Everybody's trying to scheme and find the mismatching. A lot of time he was on the losing end of that. But when it comes down to a guy coming down hill meeting you at the line of scrimmage, boys six is the man. He's like Thomas Everett. He's throwing I mean, you pulled out trop Paula Mallo. It's a guy like that. But I'm just saying like he's one of those throwback type safeties at the line of scrimmage. That's why they're not throwing him back. Fourteen million dollars happening. It's not
having safety Ruiner. Dan Quinn is like that old group Manu Dough. Who Manu Dough? So what happened is so the brother's name on the group. Think think of the Latin New edition. You you aged out? They brought in somebody else. Yeah, oh Barry Church you now sixteen? Were you out? Manu Doough? We gotta go find a s fourteen year? You canna find somebody else dan Quinn's job. Hey, we're gonna we need you to identify the talent. We will get them low and then you're gonna go in
here and play with Bill Polian hired Tony Dungee. One reason why he said he wanted to run the Tampa too. He's like, I don't want to pay money for man corners because man corners cost me too much. But I can draft some younger guys with Tony and he could coach him up as he was trying. That was his whole thing. I'm He's like, I'll pay him a defensive ends, but I ain't trying to pay on the back. In dan Quinn, you gonna find it's the safety that you like.
Maybe it's the Bell kid that they brought in from Florida and them exactly we're going to We're going to keep just replacing these guys. Jimmy Johnson's whole thing was like, I don't pay linebacks. Say I'll pay him to the front, pay him to the back, but I ain't paying in the middle. So Ken Norton was allowed to leave, Robert Jones was allowed to leave. Godfrey Miles was lovely that somewhere along the way in the salary cap where you gotta say, man, this is just where I'm a try
and plug and play. And my gosh, dan Quinn has been here. I mean, he's been successful at a spot where we for years we're like, oh my god. Now I don't know about Manudo. But you did say new edition. But I would say, right on right. I would say when Bobby Brown left, the body with Bobby Brown left, they bought the Johnny you know what I mean. So so you gotta find me. We need Johnny rub you the right way. We need that boys the man. You know. There you go. That's that's what you do. What you got.
I got nothing, man, y'all talk about Camby Rain. Come on, you got bro Okay I've been saying. Okay, I'm just going back to Pemborough. I'm just categorizing all this stuff. Keon, hego, he Gona. You don't like us. I want to hit another. I am in Houston Cougar fame. You're a fairy after giving you a hat. Kelvin Simpson, No, okay, Kelvin. Wherever Kelvin has been, I've been there in Oklahoma's dad with any end, wherever Kelvin is, I am right there, got the root of the album. He must not be a
bro something because I didn't see you, Okay. I was like, okay, you're doing a lot of you give a lot of credit. Yeah, okay, But he with the pen broke, that's what it is, Okay. I be oh, I bet he does love as town out between the rockets and everything. That's his town. I know what it is. You only wonder and I'm good with it. I'm doing Let's take a break, Barry Church and this is this is the plays by those Dallas Cowboys. Nobody protects you from Mayhem like all State. You hear that,

Tell them us for the show for the show Harris Ford Center. So it's not all sweet to the Ford. Yeah, yeah, thank you didn't. I
didn't think it's got one sacrifice. Yeah yeah, I mean I know there's at least one. There's at least one roll up there. Danny Mccraigberry Church, Heck Harrison new Scruggs. This players not just brought to you by toes stitoes. All right. We were tossing around topics. One of the topics brought up there, um, can you award to pay your quarterback big free agent money and win a championship?
Then it was the dot dot dot like my homes. No, no, no, he's out of the conversation unless you have my last If you don't have my homes, can you afford to do that? If you don't have one of the most talented quarterbacks that you've ever seen on tire life, can you afford to pay your quarterback a ton of money and not be able to feel I guess fill them around him with a bunch of talented guys, receivers, tight ends, running back. Can you get the job done? Can you
get super Bowl? Not just not just winning? Can you get to the Super Bowl winning winning Can you be a super Bowl Can you have a super Bowl winning team if you don't have enough money to go out and get big town free agents to surround your quarterback with. Can you afford to pay Dak and then feel this roster? Come on the man, I mean, now I'm talking about Dak, were talking about Lamar, We're talking about all the guys
who are Joe Burrow. We talk about guys who are gonna be coming up soon, who you're looking at getting paid more than fifty million dollars a year. But then we have to take my homes off the table. No, that's that's what I said. Okay, No, my home's outlier. Okay, outlined. Okay, he's not getting it, but he like, we understand that. You know, you don't really curious to see what Cincinnati is gonna do with Joe Burrow. He's the one quarterback that I think is out of all that group, is
more talented than the talent that's around. He makes these guys better. Listen, Chase is that boy. But I do believe that he benefits by also having a great quarterback. Um and so listen, listen, I just listen. You know, everybody else everybody else that falls into that category, I think you have a hard time because it's also on
the other side of the of the ball. You know, you gotta have guys that can get stops on defense also, So all things being considered, um, I think that's what makes that that argument so intriguing because if you know, in the quarterback era and the and the way that they put the salary cap together, they damned the handicap you if you're paying one guy quarter of what the salary cap is, So you know, I think it's a legitimate gripe. But it's just teams that seem to be
able to get that done. And that's what I guess. That's where my question is that something especially like the ram like they just look at him. They paid Stafford. Stafford making top dollar paid man, he was making top dollar. He was never giving anybody any deals when he was in Indianapolis, and he Denver had to pay him big money. Um. Eli was never some dude who's playing. He wouldn't even
know Tom Brady contract Eli was playing top five. No. No, the only reason I'm gonna take Stafford out is because on that Super Bowl winning team, he had weapons around him. Receiver wise, his receiver one the Triple Crown. We said Odell was going to go off and win Super Bowl MVP at that time, So he did have at least two guys at that time. And Cooper Couple is unstoppable at that point, and the defense and defense on there.
You got jakeon Ramsey on there. But you had a guy making signific forge no no, but no, no, But then these guys were making money before Matthew Stafford came in, Like he came in and was surrounded by these guys when he got there. Can you pay a guy that's on your team now and then still bring in all those guys like the Rams? So do a reverse? We get Stafford? Do we still getting Violne Miller, were still getting Jayalen Ramsey, We still get paying Aaron Donald? Are
you still able to do all those things? Can I give you? I'll give you one scenario. They the team did win the Super Bowl because the head coach messed up by trusting the quarterback. But Jimmy Garoppolo witness to San Francisco seven games. They made him the highest paid quarterback in the league. And you know they did go to the Super Bowl. I think he's like through nine pad completely nine pass an FC championship game. But but to me that listening to you, does that qualify They
didn't win? Can you win a super Bowl? They didn't win, so can they? Yeah? They probably could have won the game, but they lost. So have we seen it? Ye, big Ben? I mean we saw Ian And now you're doing the exclusion you said, can we yeah, have we seen it? Yeah, we saw it. We just Patrick Mahomes And now you're saying, well, you gotta take him out. The exclusion is we people are considering Patrick Mahomes to be the greatest quarterback of all time already. I wouldn't say that, have you not?
Have you not heard that? Have we not heard that? Didn't say that? Man? Is it fair to say that he is probably ahead of pace when it comes to being the greatest of all time? He's ahead of the page. He's on a Hall of Fame trajectory resume right now. So who I mean to me? I feel this is just me. I feel like it's a moving target. You got going right now? Hey, can you pay a quarterback? And we're super Bowl? Yeah? Patrick holds, No, take him out of it. It's the only one you brought up
Jimmy Rappler didn't win. Can you have a super Bowl winning team many? Yeah, Okay, they did it with him. Yeah, that's fine. Okay, there we go. I mean, you're gonna have the outliers. But then when you start saying pay like Peyton Manning, Like, oh, Peyton Manning, Eli, let's say this too about Eli Manning. Eli Manning had one of the best defenses in it. Let's not forget. But that paid him elite money. Those guys, That's what I'm saying here Tom Conner and out here giving out no discounts.
So absolutely he was paid. Absolutely, And the question for me is is, right now, the Cowboys have a situation with Dak and I think that's what Jerry was talking about that, like, it's damn the difficult to put that kind of talent around this guy and also pay CD and also play digs and also pay Michael down a lone. You got so many guys that you have to pay. And then the expectation is he can do it with the just a limited talent and aging talent that he
has around him, and I don't think he can. You're gonna have to get guys around him that he's proven to you, I gotta have some dudes, And who builds a roster like that other than having a guy on a rookie deal and not on a forty million dollar year deal. To your point, and Bill Polian wrote a
book about five or six years ago, It's really good. Um. Just before he was out here trying to move with Lamar Jackson the wires here, but he spoke about, shit, I'm glad, I'm glad you want to throw that out there, building and building the coach and building the Colts. And he said, you in the NFL, today's NFL, you have to decide where do I want to be offensive defense? He's like, Colts, we were offense, put the money towards offense, and we just paid a couple of dudes on defense.
And asked our head coach, man, we need you coach a bunch of these young dudes. Then he talked about Seattle on the other side, they went heavy defense. They went heavy defense, and just said, hey, you know, offensively, we're gonna run the ball here and simple formula right before Russka cook. Um. So, so in Jerry's case, he's at this point where I feel like Jerry, You're trying to pay a little bit of everybody here. What what are you? What are you doing? He's also missed paid guys.
In my opinion, why didn't you get Dak when you could have had him at the Golf Wentz price. Those guys Golf and Wins are still on those same deals, still on those same deals that they signed a thirty something million. Now they look like bargains. I mean Detroit like ain't gonna get rid of Golkins made thirty two million dollars. Fine, Um, they could have had him there. That's a mistake. You paid Zeke and gave him the highest number out there for a running back. You messed up.
He was still two years in. Then with Cooper, you made a trade from Mary Cooper and you didn't side into a contract immediately. So we look at that and so you wait until the end. You gotta pay Dak. They messed up. They pay you boy Crawford instead of paying Tank Laures. All along the way we go sit up in like Dak is your fault? Manage at some points, I but the fins you want to beat up four when it's like look at your management team, asking what
they do. If we're shareholders in the company, we'll be looking at Jerry selling what hey man, this right man? We we we are. We are not identifying and paying the people at the right time. I mean, Crawford, man, how do you? How do you pick up that check with a straight face? Have somebody go get it, get out of the car. I sorry, I'm sorry, but what what did he do? What did he do? What did he do? And it takes it up here sacking ball? Go to Pro Bowl and he's a begging for dollars. Man,
but they that I just fight it hard. I got nothing. I just feel bad when when when Terry come out here, Hey, dak no, you were paying you all that money? You did this? No, but but how about this? What happens when you're not bullish on a guy. When I'm not sold on your talent. I understand that I have talent. You got the best offensive line in the league, your rookie the season, and the best running back in the league your rookie season. All of that translates into the victories,
and you still don't get to the NFC Championship. Problem. Manya right, you're right, But still, if I'm not sold on your talent. You think about Dak in his second year coming in like again, he was. He was they you saw his limitations they were blaring, and the more they tried to push him out there to be this elite level quarterback, more and more he showed you. Look, you're gonna have to get guys around him. What did they do? They ran out Alan Herns and what's my
man number eleven Fries Measley. You know they ran those guys and there was no way that Dak was gonna succeed with that. But then they make a mid season trade for Cooper. Okay, this is gonna work, and you didn't pay Cooper. So you go to Fridgent where I kept watching it. Give me a whole bunch of cash. You're like, oh, okay, guess we'll meet your number one Hunter Meal. Either way, I'm just saying, as Dak is right now, you recognize Look it's has Dak. I'm gonna
ask you, this has Dak plateaued. As far as his talent, is this as good as it gonna get. Is he gonna unveil anything in his game? That's gonna tell you? Oh okay, that's a new wrinkle. No, not new but if Dak gets back to being a mobile quarterback, then I think I think it does. But do you really believe that he's actually going to No, No, he did a little bit more, you know, towards the end of the season, we saw him run a little bit more. I think he gets back to that, then you you
might see you know, some growth. Uh And they thought growth there cruising off that's where that's what made that when that when Dak was on his way to getting paid before that, to run the ball and move the chains by getting out of the pocket extended plays. That was a huge part of his game. Since he's heard of something you haven't really seen that, haven't seen it, and now that's glaring. That's a glaring issue for you saying, hey man, we paid this guy because he was one
of those mobile quarterbacks. Even to the point where Jerry was talking about, oh, that's some of that stuff Cam Dowton is doing that should be able to do some of that. That is what Jerry thought about Dak's ability to run the ball. And he's got hurt. You haven't been able to see it. Gosh, it's just fun. We will continue this discussion. You know, got a lot more, a lot more to talk about. This thing we talked about for a long long time. We'll do that next week.
And catching them strays, boy, it's strays all day for profit. It wasn't me with me, but he was here. He can't say nothing about it. Taking the will fare, doing dollar. They gotta make change. I don't agree shakes up to. I don't agree with the words. My word. He's selling merchant words, the sales man not they paid the Canadians. What do we do a guy? This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
