Player's Lounge: Slowing Down Baltimore

Dallas Cowboys safeties, Barry Church and Danny mccraig. The day after Wednesday Night Football on NBC, in which the Pittsburgh Steelers go to eleven and oh by beating the Baltimore Ravens nineteen to fourteen. This game was slopping. It looked like two teams that hadn't been practicing. But the Steamers get picked, the Ravens get the lost. So who picked Who picked the Ravens to win? Somebody? That would be you and I No, no, no no, no, no, who who

somebody picked up? Somebody picked the Ravens to win? Oh the Ravens. Oh, Oh, the Ravens. Oh. That was only one person who did that on this show. Oh in America. Problem one person and in America and probably picked the raven Who was that? There was your boy, man, there was your boy, none other it was none other than those your domas your boy. You know, I picked them boys, man, you know, and I got something to say, Man, I

picked the Ravens, And yeah, I was wrong. You know, I'm not afraid to admit, unlike some people on this show, when I was wrong, and I was wrong about to pick last week. But I'll tell you this, man, I felt bad. I felt extremely bad just looking at what happened to RG three. I mean, this guy is a shell of himself. He was just got like eight years. He was the rookie of the year, bona fide. He was Lamar Jackson before there even was a Lamar Jackson. He had world class b and then you just see

him out there and it's like, man, what happened? I mean he and I'll tell you what that what he did last night and not watching it, he basically messed up his whole cushy job. He had a nice cushy job where he was the backup quarterback, probably making three four million dollars a year. He's sitting behind a young study. He's probably never gonna see the field. So he's gonna collect on that money. But now after they saw that performanceship man, they're gonna be like, hey, look, we ain't

gonna bring you back next year. That cushy job you had, it's gone now. No, no, just feel bad. Oh bron did you They're down with eight to twelve guys. You're on your You're on a sinner who's never started in the NFL, and your your right guard is a dude making a second start. You don't have your top receiver, you don't have your tight end. I mean, how are

you putting all this on RG three? Man? And so person on three out there we saw him, but only one person on this on this podcast expected RG three to do something spectacular, which is you, Well that was wrong about that. I'm talking about just the way he looked out there. The man looked, didn't They looked terrible trams better than him out there. Listen, dude, I'm gonna say all that, thank you, thank you. I don't know exactly what I'm church Church. You need stop, bro, I'm serious.

Aren't you three look good yesterday? RG three look good yesterday. What I'm saying is there was a cast of people around him, which was going to make the job hard. Right now, I think you're being as unfair to RG three as you've been Andy Dalton. You're sitting around here mad at a guy who has nobody around him. I mean, when you think about what makes the Ravens offense go, there's the running backs are out, the number one tight ends out. You got Willie Steed, your leading receiver route,

he got a center. Okay, I'm sorry, bro. I'm not trying to sit up here at all and say I understand what it's like to play in the NFL. But I'll say this as a guy who used to snap. You throw a dude out here, and you and you go up against the Pittsburgh Steelers trying to call up man, trying to call fronts against these dudes with a right guard making his second start. So the communication between you guys about who gets who? I mean, you see T J. Watt went out there. I had a heck of a day.

I'm sorry, man, that's not all on the quarterback round that. That's that's unfair. Boy looked terrible out there, man, he did not RG three did not stand the chance. You listen, something in us are something in us already knew that he was gonna go out there and get injured. He went out there and he had another soft tissue injury. Uh,

you know, like it's it's the usual, RG three. What happened was Church, you looked at his past performance against the Ravens, what you brought I mean against the Steelers, what you brought up last time, and said, yeah, the last time he started, he was beating up on the Stillers, and he was like, this is the RG three that we're gonna see this week. And what did we say? Now,

Bro that that's not who he is. That's not what Danny and Danny No Church was thinking about the last time RG three faced him, He like he what he is he was, But he gave what he gave me that work. First of all, First three, Yeah, forgetting me no work. You was that you was covering the game forgetting me no work. So we're gonna, we're gonna, we're gonna work. He could have gave you to work. He ain't getting you the work. Listen, listen, listen. The Red Skids gave me, gave me all I can handle on

things giving. I remember exactly what RG three looked like. And I knew that that was a skin like he was benefiting from the scheme that they were running. That ain't the scheme they're running up the uh in Baltimore. And that was the Dallas Cowboys offense that they were playing against. Either. That was Mega Fitzpatrick Watt and those boys running out there and rieking heavy. And the old thing that kept them in the game was the Ravens defense, which is coming in next week. So man, I mean,

we we got our hands full. So RG three, by the way, was the leading Russia on the team. All right, Um, that tells you something right there. The only thing that worked in that offense yesterday was RG three doing a quarterback drop up the middle, so that that offensive line to do anything at all. And by and by the way, Um, Church, didn't you say somebody was supposed to be leading receiving yesterday and that was gonna put up? And yeah, I thought he was. Man, how many catches it does Bryan

have yesterday? Man? How anybody all the way away? No, no, Church, don't don't take that one. I'm not no, I'm not winning new on that one. Church, man. So how did no, no, no in Church? You gotta find me in church, ask him how many passes the Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks completed yesterday before you go out here talking about Den Brane. They kissed the passes. Why I gotta kind of go with nook, man, I don't know, man, my boy, Look did you see that bang? Eighty ran and he slipped and fell. I

don't know, Man's outside. Did you see j Claypool? They all looked the same, everybody that was out there and was cold on a Wednesday. It was on the Wednesday. And so you gave him bring the sauce this week, though he gonna bring the sauce this week against that. Look what Whatd's had two targets in the game, And I go back to something. You just sat right here, Danny. It was Wednesday. This looked like a Wednesday scrimmage more so than it looked like an NFL game. These guys

have been off, uh. And I spoke a little bit out yesterday, man, these guys are gonna be off. And and I was wrong giving the Steelers to what. I gave the Steels twenty seven points to win. I said they win twenty seven and nine wasn't too far off for what the Ravens did. But um, you know that that was bad. That was some bad football that we saw there of teams, you know, not really ready to play and and and off routine. You guys are professed

on athletes. Athletes are creatures, have happed, and the habit was definitely off. The Cowboys right now are going to be off. And I'm I'll say, right now is they get ready to face the Ravens Tuesday in Baltimore on December eight, I'm going to be worried about how they look being off this long. And then you add in today where um, there's the virtual memorial service for Marcus Paul, there is strength and conditioning coach who passed away fifty

four years old. Uh, they've dealt with a lot and we got you got another issue with the offensive line. Your left tackle is out, your right tackle is out. Um, you know this is another revolving door for the Cowboys to try and get things done. So I expect them to look a little bit slow when they face the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday. Hold on, hold on, I can't

let listen. The only team that was off here, Actually, I don't think any team was off yesterday the Pittsburgh Steelers have looked the same way almost the entire season. They come out, they start off slow, and they find a way toy inch out the game in the second half. And then Baltimore didn't have all their players. Pittsburgh would

have been in some serious trouble. If Lamar Jackson and Andrews and all those guys that were out were playing yesterday, and the defense on the defensive side of the ball, where they had most of their players. They came out there to players today, they didn't look sloppy. They were They were giving Pittsburgh everything they can handle. Pittsburgh has

always has looked like this in the entire season. That's why some people don't even have them as the number one team, because they've looked this way even in their wins. So I don't really think they were off. I think that's just the type of football that Pittsburgh is playing. And then you know, of course you had Baltimore missing all the all the pieces of offense. Tomlin called it a JV performance. That's what he said yesterday. He said they looked off. I thought they were off, like you know,

go back to having James Connor. My fantasy team, and there, Ibron, I've watched I've watched a lot of Steelers games. I mean, the way these receiving a brown, he dropped at least three passes dropped the touchdown pass. I mean in this football game I saw, I saw a lot of passes being dropped. And for me, as I look forward, I picked the Steelers to make the Super Bowl. The one thing that worries means they don't run the football enough.

I looked out there yesterday and the Steelers fence with just sixty eight yards rush, and part of me said, is it your unwillingness to run? And also the Ravens, by the way, are really good. And if you're the Cowboys and Callen Moore, good luck trying to figure out how you're gonna run on this Ravens defense. But they've got some issues here in my mind, and they just throw away too much from my my take, especially when you think about the kind of weather and that's what

you grew up in Barry. That kind of weather that they had yesterday was made to run the football more so than trying to trying to pass it. But oh well, what do I know, man? I mean, and lucky they didn't play the day before. There was a snowstorm up there the day before when they were scheduled to play Tuesday,

and it would have been even worse. But I'm interested to see what Pittsburgh can do in the playoffs and it once the postseason comes around, because you can't really be a one trick pony when it comes to the playoffs. You gotta be you gotta be able, you gotta be multifaceted, so you can't just go out there and throw the ball fifty sometimes and expect to win, especially when you're going to get the better teams in the AFC. So I'm interested to see how they do out there. They

might be a first round exit, you know. I don't know, man, I don't know these past a couple of years, and Stiler has been out of the playoffs after one. So I'd be interested to see what Bank can put up out there. Gotta make a commitment to the run here.

So um, looking at that Baltimore game yesterday, and while you were trying to run down RG three who got hurt in the football game, I looked at it from the standpoint, even with them having offensive line issues, they ran for one hundred and twenty nine yards on the Steelers and the Cowboys, telling you, I want to know what Mike Nolan's gonna do because to me, I'm selling out and I'm trying to put eight nine in the box. Or you can you trust your corners to go? Man?

Mark Andrews, the tight end, will not be available for Baltimore when they face the Cowboys on Tuesday. He's on COVID nineteen. Lamar Jackson should be out. They should get some more of their starters out. But knowing that they like to run the football, and maybe you have your safety cheat over. Well, you gotta have your safe to cheat over at the Hollywood brawdcas even beat Deep. But how do you go about stopping this team that wants

to run the football? And well, by the way, they'll have their top two running backs, ladye Mac Yeah, listen, do we that's is that a trick question? We haven't stopped to run all seasons, So how do we stop them? I don't know, We don't. What we do is we control the clock on offense and we try to we try to play the game to where we get the ball last, and we give our chances to give ourselves a shot of the great Andy Dalton having another comeback.

Who Church wants to replace Church with with double G. You know, I think the only chance we have of stop the only chance we have them stopping this running game, is to have our offense on the I don't I don't think we have a real shot and stopping off running the ball, just because we haven't been able to do it against almost any team all season. Yeah. Man, look, this is gonna be tough for the Cowboys. Man. I mean, like you said, they haven't been able to stop the run.

And this is a downhill running team. This is a team that when they do hand the ball off to the backs, they're straight downhill, right up the gut of the defense. And that's something that we haven't been able to stop all year. So it's gonna be tough. Man. But if I'm if I'm the Cowboys, and you gotta stack the box, you got to. I mean, you gotta force this team to throw the ball. You gotta force um Lamar Jackson to try to find Hollywood Brown, to try to find a Willie Snead out there. And you

gotta trust your corners out there. Look, I know Holly Brown, Hollywood Brown. He can, he can run. He's a he's a deep threat guy. But I mean I don't see him as being Oh my gosh, we gotta double team this guy. We gotta keep him under wraps. Like I think you can single cover him. You just can't let him get over the top. And then Willie sneed. I mean Willie teams like a tight end out there. I mean he's slow. Oh he's out the guy. So really,

so you stack? I think you stacked the box. I think you shave the safety over towards Hollywood Brown, just because he can beat you the Dez. He doesn't have the wheels anymore. He can get you on the fifty fifty balls, but he doesn't have the wheels anymore. I think you leave a corner on him except for the red zone because we all know those jump balls. He's still got that explosive ability. So for me, you gotta stack the box. You gotta shut down this run. You

gotta force Lamar Jackson to throw the ball. Wait, Church, Church, Wait, who do you so when you stack the box and you get Lamar Jackson running read option, you know, giving it or playing off the defensive end, which one on our linebackers. Do you do you put in a situation to where he has the quarterback, which one do you trust out of all of them? I put I put at all of them. I put Vanderish. I mean, I know that's not the greatest solution, but look, Jalen Smith,

he can't move side to side. I mean we've seen it time and time again. He's a straight, straight, vertical guy. He can run when it goes straight line, but if you're go on side to side, he just doesn't have that ability to move that way. And I don't think at all. We see what Kyler Murray was able to do to just gut in the open field, Lamar Jackson is ten times worse than open field. So I put vander Esh as far as the read option rules apply.

But it's gonna be tough. Man. You can't leave a spy on him because he'll make that spi look ridiculous in the open field. I guarantee you that's a situation that you will see the entire game to where they're they're getting one on one and seeing who they're gonna have taking the quarterback, because depending on who that is, if it's if it's a big time mismatch. Lamar Jackson will be keeping that thing and turned the corner often.

You know they might want to team. They might, you know, I don't think they would do this, But I think Joe Thomas that line. I think with the linebacker we got Joe Thomas, I think he'd be a better, better situation to handle Lamar's running versus a Vander esh and a Jalen Smith. But I don't I don't see him cracking the lineup with Shaun Lee Bean in this game on Tuesday between the Ravens and the Cowboys. You're talking about six and five Ravens team that is looking outside

the playoffs. I mean, you know playoffs starting today, they're not in. They're a third place in the division. You know, Cleveland is ahead of them, and of course the Steelers are gonna go ahead and win that division. So this could be a desperate team. And Lamar's coming off the COVID nineteen lists. I don't know if he had it or not, if he tests a positive or he was

close to someone who did. But I'm expecting Lamar Jackson, the reigning MVP, to be a desperate player who decides, you know what, I'm gonna put this on my back. And what's the one thing I know about this Cowboys defense. They can't stop the run. So I'm gonna see what these guys can do. So I think I'm expecting Lamar Jackson to come out here and put on a show. And you know, whether they run run some routes out there or some guys and he decides to take off.

I mean, I just expect this to be the Lamar Jackson Show on Tuesday. It could be, and he needs it to be because I mean it's started to the chirps of everybody around and starting to say, hey, Lamar, he can't win the big game. I mean, he's been in the playoffs twice. He's been exited twice in the first round. So he needs to have a good display these past couple of games just to reassure himself with the with the Ravens, because if he goes out, if he goes out there and they don't make the playoffs,

I don't know, man, I don't know. So man, you know what, Church, We're gonna keep this thing. We're gonna play it back on Tuesday on Monday when we make our pictures. Right now, it sound like you're leaning toward the Ravens and then my mom, you know, for them, for them to get the six wins, that you would be leaning toward the Cowboys. So, nah, I'm listening. I'm gonna be hard. It's gonna be hard, but no, I can't. I can't a little bit. I dug my grave, man, and if I gotta lay in it, I gotta lay

in it. So I'm gonna go with the Cowboys. Man. We'll see if that changed my Monday, but we go ahead. So let me ask this to you guys watching the game. So you know, we're watching the game here, and obviously you know we're looking at the Ravens specifically. But I kept seeing t J. Wat in the backfield, and they kept coming into my mind over again, how much they talked about TJ. And I think of Taco Charleston. I just keep felt thinking Taco Charleston decided to take Taco

Charlton over TJ. Watt, And and there was not you know, when you look at their collegiate you know, careers, t J. Watt was a much better player, you know, just the mistake that the Cowboys made. And I was looking at Pro Football Focus and they came out with their with their All Pro list and they had Tank Lawrence second team All Pro. And I'm just thinking, what could Tank Lawrence and t J. Watt, What could they be together?

In my mind, I'm thinking von Miller d Ware of what they were able to do in Denver and create havoc and just just what Dercus Ware could have had with another with that kind of guy on the other side of him, beside Taco Cho. What a miss? What a tragic miss by the Cowboys in the draft room that day. It's a It's a tragic miss because I mean Taco he's been bouncing around since he left, since he left Dallas, and he's never kind of produced to

what t J. Watt has been able to do. But I gotta get back to to your to your initial statement. They got the Marcus Lawrence as a what as a as a second team what? All Pro? Yeah? Who was this? Pro Football focus? Yeah? Oh? Man, ain't nobody, man, that's at Chris Collinsworth. Jump man, Ain't nobody wants that? If y'all don't know, man, I don't like Chris Collinsworth. Man. But that's all. That's a story for another day. And

you listen. You have a lot of stories for another day that I cannot wait to hear down and break this all down. You know, my listening, My list listens, Yo, listen, Yo, listens. it out or not? No? No, no, because I I saw both players playing college and Taco Charlton had a good senior year and it took him, you know, basically four years to get there. And also, this is one of the this is one of the damning things because I lived in Ohio. If you're a good player in Ohio, they pretty much keep you there. This guy was from COLUMBIU.

He was from Columbus, Ohio, and they didn't even offer huh and man walking down the road, We're good, We're good, I mean really, so hey listen, Oh wait wait wait wait wait wait Church did Ohio State? Uh? Did they any of those big time schools offer you nah? But I ain't from Ohio though. You know what I'm saying. No, no, I'm saying, I'm just talking. I'm just talking about something. Sometimes those colleges mess up, man, and they let some

of the good talent get out of there. And Church, as a matter of fact, Will McClay said, said, my man church. He's a picture of church on the wall of their Toledo Man Toledo legend. It's just church. I was. I was induct into the Hall of Fame a couple of years back. So so so, sometimes sometimes those schools mess up, man. They didn't mess up on Taco now, as we've seen. But sometimes those sps mess up, and then you know, they don't look at some of the

right talent. They let some of them get out of there. And even at my bad church, I know you're not from Columbus. I know you're from Pittsburgh, bro. I know you black and yellow. Get black and yellow from Eve. But but Danny, I go back to this simple thing. If you look at their careers and what they did in the Big ten, T J. Watt was far better player, far better, absolutely absolutely, and they messed up talking about he didn't fit the scheme. Um rot Marinelli was wrong.

let me tell you something. When we were coming into the season and we were talking about how ha Clint Dix and how he was going to perform and who was gonna beat him Mountain, who was gonna be the starters? I never thought Donovan Wilson was gonna be what he's

been for the last few weeks. He's been out there making some incredible plays, making some big tackles, talking some turnovers, being in the right position, although he does miss a few tackles every once in a while, as far as safety play, over the last three three to four weeks, he's been a shining light. So I'm giving it to him. You know, he's you know, people started off rough, but the way he's been able to pick it up with this defensive turning around a little bit at this part

of the season, I gotta say he's the guy for me. Okay, all right, I mean he he kind of reminds me of a young Wilcox out there. So I get that one, I got two. I got two. I'm gonna throw out there man. First, I'm gonna throw out Dalton Scholtz. I mean, I I gotta give it to the guy, because look, when Blake Jarmon went down with his injury, you know, everybody thought Blake Jarlin was gonna be the guy, the

vertical threat. He was gonna beat our Travis Kelsey and then when he got hurts and it went to Dalton Scholtz, I was like, Oh, here we go. We're just gonna have another blocking tight end in there, and that's and that's how we're gonna do it. But he was able to go out there and become kind of a security blanket out there. I mean, he's wins a lot on his one on ones no matter who he's going against safety's linebackers, and he's able to win on third down

no matter which quarterback is out there for him. So for me, I gotta say I've been pretty impressed so far with Dalton Scholtz and his ability to play tight end and my other guy that I'm gonna throw out there. Y'all gonna hate on me and all that good stuff because y'all the captains of the haters cru but I got double g all right, this is not he came in there that Look, he didn't get the win, he did not get the word, but he he started out there. He needs to be out there. He showed he has

the moxi the confidence to be out there. Y'all want to keep rapping with the with the red pistol, pure perl all you want to, but I'm going with my guy Double G. Man know he gets this dude off here. I was talking about can I can I question the one player who's outperformed your expectations for twenty twenty and you're gonna pull out a dude that expectations squad who had expectations for Double nobody did, and he went out there and he performed better than we all thought he

were going to Pittsburgh. I thought of the question just haters. I mean that that's all it is, just because y'all hate this, knew it. The dude that went from picking the Ravens and saying RG three is gonna have a big game yesterday MS saying that that Double G is the player. First of all, you shouldn't have had two players. She just left it that one, and then I can, man, what's brow? Yeah, I'm I'm trying to thig out, man, did you make where you asking me to talk about it?

I'm trying. I'm trying to break this down so you can understand the question. Y'all could keep riding with the nerve. You can go ahead and load that thing up with those soft butts y'all can keep doing that. But I'm telling that's where I'm saying you won't see this season. Church. I agree with that on Dalton Schultz. Dalton Schultz was the guy I wondered was he gonna make the team? I really did because I just wanted this guy even gonna be, you know, a contributor. Could he make that

that that leap? And and he has and he started the NFL season, He's shown us he can do something that when Blake Jarwin comes back. I think that the Cowboys have two really good tight ends and and if the mccainn kid can developed and become more of a blocker, I think that the Cowboys at three tight ends that can go out there and do the job. And it can be a position that the Cowboys um don't have to put draft resources into next year because they got

to really heavily invest in this defense. From my opinion, so for me, the guy who's outperformed the expectations I had for twenty twenty. Dalton Shultz going back to training camp when I saw him, and I had questions, So yes, and and Danny, I appreciate you um answering the question with with legitimacy instead of making it. You just agreed with my answer a Dalton Shultz. Are you are trying to add another one the first one? And now you're

gonna act like I don't know what I'm whatever due whatever. No, but yeah, we're gonna take a break. We're gonna take a break from this. But Barry's foolishness, Man, Barry got foolishness going on here. Man, whatever I don't know it is. Barry has turned to a back pedal king. Man, he turned to the backpedal king. I remember when Dalts and Shows went out there and he dropped the pass in that first game, when when Jordan went out and Church was like, oh my god, what is it doing? The

lights were too quite weak? Blast me? We just sacking blast for me now now, were just putting the words off Church. Never anything. Hello, hello, Hello. We didn't all come on this show and say that the lights might might be too big for Dalts and Shows because when he got in the game, he was out there dropping passes. That's not what we said. Yes, oh man, come on, where's the receipt, Yes, receipt. I'll gonna find it for you, bro, I'm gonna find anybody. I'll promise you I'm gonnnna find

I just thought that was wrong all day long. And now Dak is going into the offseason and the Cowboys say they're going to keep him, but will they franchising or get another deal? So he's back to square one and trying to get a deal done. His agent, Todd France, had a total of three clients, including Dak Prescott, who are a franchise deals and not one of them got done. Okay, here's an agent who switched agencies after Okay, after the

franchise tags were not done, switched agencies. And now I'm from what I'm hearing and reading he's gonna be able to make more money with this new agency, and he's gonna be bringing these three clients over here and making these three big deals. Well, Bud Dupree was one of those guys who was having a very good year with eight sacks Steelers linebacker and guests who had a tourn acl yesterday against the Raiders. But dupre and I'm sitting to myself saying, you know what, man, this is ridiculous.

Two guys, two guys with season ending injuries now going into the off season without contracts. I'm sorry, I just I don't get it. I just that to me does not feel like an agent taking care of the clients. Showman. That's just me your thoughts. Yeah, listen, So me and knew he talked about this offline, and in Dak Prescott's case, I see it a little differently than Budd Priests. You know, I don't I don't know the ins and out of how much bud du Prees was asking for how much

they were willing to give. But I know on that side he was missing a year and then he may have been looking to be trying to get closer to forty versus thirty five. They had some little things and and and that like believed in himself and knew he was gonna go out there and play his way until

forty million dollar contract. And minus the injury, which which is a football thing, like injuries happened, all right, Minus that the dude was going to make more money than the Cowboys had offered him based on the way that he was playing up until he got hurt. So, I mean, you know, for him, he was betting on the stuff and he got hurt. I don't know what budd preest was.

Sometimes it just don't work out. It's really unfortunate that it's two of his clients that go in without a deal and end up, you know, hurt the way that they do. Now, so I feel you, nui, But you know, some of these players just better on themselves and they and they tell agent they don't want to take a deal. And at some point the Asian got to say, hey, man,

And and and I'll say this and this is me and having covered the league a long time, Pittsburgh is a place that when guys lead, they usually have regrets on on like man you know that place wasn't so bad. I remember before they paid Antonio Brown, the other receiver that had was Mike Wallace. That was the guy that that Roethlisberger was going to. And Wallace wanted you know, he wanted

more money than Pittsburgh was willing to pay.
