Player's Lounge: Is Trading Worth It?

about a corner. That's crazy, And I'm just trying to say, Okay, who's giving Who's going to give up a starting corner for a wide receiver who's played one game and you don't know where he is. I mean, I wouldn't do that route if we're talking picks though future draft picks, would you do that? Okay? So here's the next thing you talk about the draft. What do you think you're gonna get from Michael gall at least I try to

get a third Okay, that's pretty huh. And and man for I self for the fourth two, yeah, okay, I'm more than that range four, fifth, okay, So here comes the thing. Just put it in the other team shoes. Are you willing to give up a fourth round pick for a player who can walk at the end of the year and you may get nothing out, you may get a third round pick out of the compensatory pick's And you say, now, if you're the Cowboys, you look

at it that way, Chris. But if you're the other team making the trade, okay, if you're the other team making the trade, I don't know if I want to do that. If I'm trading for the player I want the player rounds, are you also ready to give him a contract? That's what I'm saying. But you imagine that whoever he gets traded to is looking for for that piece, right, They're looking for that guy, and they're like, hey, listen, he's better than what we're probably seeing, uh in college.

At this point, we can get a guy who's proven, has experienced. Then you say, all right, well this is the guy that's on our board, and we were probably gonna go get him anyway after the season. I put our bid in, So let's just get him now and we give up that fifth. Look look at the same and save you some money. Because all of a sudden, somebody,

somebody started starting that price tag up here. Then that team that was looking for him and could have made that trade for four or fifth is looking at paying great love where this is going here? So now I throw this out here. Mark Cooper has been battling injuries, dealing with the ribs for years, then with the legs. So are you willing to have Michael Gallant leave? You still got a love football games left with Mary Cooper and hopefully more after that. Yes, I'm willing to I'm

willing to do that. Yes, because we've seen with these guys. We've seen games where Mark Cooper and CD Lamb have combined for eight catches, no yards, and we still put up thirty six points. So stay with me there, all right, what if the ribs get worse and he's got to miss a game or two? Are you ready to go

with CD Lamb? Cedric Wilson, Noah Brown, Yes, Shultz, Yeah, I say this one thing about a Mark Cooper, Uh, the dude has been battling injuries for years, and he's been fighting through them for four years, even to the fact that we didn't even know that he had certain injuries and then he ended up getting surgery after the season. So I think he's gonna be able to tough through this season. Hopefully this bye week gave him, gave him

a chance to get a little bit more healthy. But I think we're going to see a different of Mark Cooper moving forward. He still has the ability to garner double teams to open other people up. I mean, we've seen it time and time again where even if he's battling Red got the hamstring, we see their main corner on them with safety help over the top. And that leaves Ceedee Lamb one on one, said Wilson Shultz. Those guys still on one on one. If you if you lose a Mari, and I mean, it's just Ceedee Lamb

out there. I think I think we I think we need to stick with Cooper on this one, and I would let Gallup go. Yeah, I'm still and I'm still okay with trading with Ceedee Lamb being the guy out like not if if Amari Cooper is hampered. I'm comfortable with Ceedee Lamb being able to make the plays that we need a receiver um when we need them, because if if there, if Mark Cooper is hampered, I assume that we're gonna be running the ball a little bit more.

Hopefully we're gonna be leaning on Zeke a little bit, a little play action game with shots, and then Cede Lamb make those plays when he needs to, like he did. And they're that big of a gap between said Wilson and Michael Gallup. And in your opinion, yes, like it's a huge guy. What about yourself? I think so a huge gay. I think I think, I think there's a huge gap. But but how much do you need these guys in order to be able to win, to be successful?

So I don't I don't think it's it's that much to like, like we're saying that you're not gonna pay Gallup, you rather just keep Wilson at the end anyway, Yeah, you're you're not gonna pay. But we assume that Gallop is gonna get yet, which is unfortunate. Man. I hope Gallup is you know, comes back healthy, it doesn't get traded. I hope that we have Gallop, CD and Amark Cooper taking us into the playoffs for this d playoff run that that I hope that we're going on, and that's

gonna be a scary thing for any defense coordinator. But I'm trying to black out. Okay, so you guys would trade Michael Gallup, I'm saying I would not. I would keep Michael Gallup and at the end of the year, hope when free agency hits, somebody wants to write him a big check and you can get a third round compensatory pick out of it. That's what I would The context is trade him if the price is right. Yeah. If it ain't, it ain't get enus. I ain't giving

him cornerback. Like Jesse said, I think I think we're doing I think we're doing decent a corner I think we're continuing to get better at the cornerback position. I don't think we need to go out there and let somebody like Mike Michael Galloup go for a cornerback, get something that you need, something that is going to help you in the future. And I don't think that corner but that pick. Look, we did in the draft, and what the what has corners being traded mid season done

so far for other teams. I mean, look at the Panthers. They got a slew of corners that came in there and they all performing terrible so far. So I just don't think bringing in a corner or that'll automatically solidify our defense. It's just not that much of an impact position to me to trade for so defensive lineman. Would you do that? Man back? If if it's the right name, we have to one because we don't know how Nevill

Gallimar is. We don't know how Tristan Hill is, how they're looking actually gonna come back to practicing this week. But but what I know is you can't have man the enforcement. What I know is, but at hockey Jersey, I take I'm taking to the stars gate young go. He gonna get taken free, taking dudes out gat roll out of ice better. I didn't. I didn't say anything about you, Tristan. I don't want any issues like, Okay, I don't want to get he's the enforcement. But no,

I trust Will McClay knows. With these picks, man, we've seen how important draft picks are, and you can hit first round all the way through the seventh round if you have the right guys working in that position. I think picks are very important, so I would do that before I did a cornerback, and I look at it this way. Gallup is most likely, in my opinion, going to get you a pick, whether you trade him or he signs as a free agent to get the compensatory

because I don't want to understand the compensatory thing. So he walks out of here free agent, he's a free agent whatever, another team you know, signs him to a big money contract. How do we get to we get the content whatever to pick for him depending on how good he does for this other team. Is that how that works? Uh? No, it's gonna be based on the money, right being he's usually based on the cash. So basically, if he signs a nice, big the money deal, you're

gonna get something back. So like DeMarco left and we got it three, like a three, Okay, I don't wonder how that worked. Okay, so I go back, I got three from Byron Jones. There you go? Ye hat something he only got? Yes, I mean that good sixth round? No Jack, Now Jacksonville to pay Gallup? Okay, Gallup by ninety million Francisco by the Lions need some help. So, I mean, there's some teams out there that may write Michael Gallup that twelve thirteen million dollars check per year.

We just what you should hope for the Cowboys if you're a Cowboy fan. Uh And if they decide they didn't want to bring him back, then you should hope that he goes out and gets a nice deal in a compensatory third round pickstarts coming your way, maybe Baltimore. I mean, who knows that there's some teams out there team could invest in Michael Gallup and and do well. But I am of the opinion that I'd like to

have Michael Gallup here if I'm the Cowboys. I go back to what Mike McCarthy said many many times about how many guys he needed seventy seven players to win that World Championship for Green Bay over at and t sad did he tell j Smith that just saying I'm just now this is real? He said this week, This is before Jayle Smith was let go. We need all these guys. We talked about how much depth we needed at the linebacker spot, and they let him get get out of here and go to Green Bay. Can I

give you my opinion on that's what he said. I think that was above the head coach that came into what was your man up in the business department? Who who brought you guys? Adam? Adam? Yeah, young Adam. If they Adam made that Adam he making no calls now, suggested they met together and just said, you know, he says his risk hurt or hurt we on hook for nine million next year. I mean, what's just some one

on the part of the cowboys. But he was part of the seventy seven guys that Mike McCarty said he needed. He was a leader of the locker room. And then he got they let him go, and so I I pulled ten dollars out to pay Todd, and Todd said, no, no, it's not We've got to make sure Vanderesh plays and surpasses the number of Jalen until yeah.

So I still got to see. These have the right to which just my man. Minnesota unfortunate part is I have to speak about this not knowing how bad the injury is or how it's healed up over the week. But I will say this, if you feel anything, if you feel anything in that calf, kind of like how they set

him out when he had the shoulder. I'm being very, very cautious with this guy, all right, because we saw last year we were already a bad team and we became one of the worst teams when we lost Dak Prescott. We're a good team now, we will become a bad team without Dak Prescott. Are we losing for an extended period of time. I would rather give a game up.

I know we don't plan on losing, even though Cooper Rush comes in, but I'd rather be cautious with him so we can make sure that he's healthy as we make this, especially the tough division running we got at the end of the season where it's four our the five division games, so I'd be really, really cautious with him.

I'm with you on that. I'd be extremely cautious, especially with an injury like a calf, I mean kind of a calf and hamstringing tricky things to deal with because it's not like he can go out there and just let's test this calf. Let's go run, you know, see what you got, because if he pops it in practice, then he's out for a prolonged period of time, and we know how that works when we got backup quarterbacks in here. Nothing against Cooper Rush, but he's just not

that guy. So with Dak Prescott, for me, I'm being extremely cautious. I'm checking with him every day every couple of Man, what's going on your eye? Is everything eye? Because if it's not, this division is over with my opinion, like this division is done for. It should be its alls. We got a healthy DAC. If we got If we got a healthy DAC, this division is over with. So if it's me and Dak saying I feel it a little bit, you know, but I can go, I can go.

You know he's trying to be that warrior guy, I'm gonna go ahead and sit him down for an extra week and go ahead. Look, man, we got we got room and this division we got room. Have Cooper Cooper Rush come up in here, maybe get a win, maybe not, we'll see what happens. But we got room enough in this division and the divisions trash let's just call stay to Spade. So and the defense ain't it ain't that you know, it used to be. They got a nice front seven, but the secondary is not playing well. Listen,

we're gonna put a points on these dudes. Anyways. This just makes it a little bit easier for our receivers to get open um and and that's great for us, especially if we have a Hamford quarterback, which I hope we don't, but listen, I will take any chip that falls in favor of us for us to get any win this season. If that's what it takes for us to get the win, I'll take it. Hope Pat Peterson gets better soon and all that stuff, but listen, that's

that's advantage for for the Cowboys. If you're Pat Peterson, how much does it hurt you your team, your old team where you you cut your teeth made your name is playing so well m m as as a former player, how do you guys? I know the film happening to me twice, happening to me twice. I went up to

the Chicago, went up there with five and eleven. We played these guys and I'm onna out there on a kickoff return because we did so many kickoff returns that game, because we was getting scored on like crazy, and I'm just looking at the other side, like this is the room choice. It's a bad it's a bad decision. This a bad decision, you know, and it was unfortunate. It sucked, but you know, like it happens, though it happens. What

Pat knows is he's making ten meals this year. So man, he's all right, and he's still in the hunt in the NFC to still make the playoffs and be better than he was in Arizona when when when they were playing with Kylin Murray's first two years. So man, he's all right. Yeah, I mean, man, I was fortunate enough that when I went to Jack's that year, we was we was nice that year and the Cowboys was trash. But the very next year they beat the brakes off of us in Dallas, and I think the Cowboys went

to the playoffs that year. I think it was eighteen, they went to the playoffs. So I was definitely kind of salty, you know. But but you know, in the long stretch of things, I definitely had the bash. So it didn't you know, it didn't kill me inside, but you definitely get a little salty, like, man, the boy's still nice without me. Man, you got, but you got further with the jazz thing you ever got with the Cowboys. That is true. Yeah, I mean, and in a very

very good game. You know, that's true. That's true. But you guys kind of salt. Listen. You didn't listen. I went to Chicago five and eleven. My last year we went forward was a four to twelve and then all of a sudden, twenty sixteen. Hell of a year for the Cowboys, all right. And I'm and that this is this is the first year I'm actually watching it on TV, not being involved in any football, and I'm just like,

ain't this up? It hurts man so mad that JJ does, I said, but you could have called me back one more time, bring it back back one time. And Pat Peterson got booted. He got booed when wait with the Arizona Oh yeah, game too. We got booed because he said the people got got all jealous because because I get he said, hey, look I got the circle on the calendar. It was a game that the Cardinals won by a point thirty four thirty three. So okay, so

it's interesting. It's interesting. Hey, let's um, I want to transition into this because you guys are former players. We've had we've we've had a little fun. Collins expense, He's coming back home. Yesterday was a media opportunity. They didn't bring Collins out. There's a media opportunity. Talk to the players Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. If you're Collins and pr maybe and Rich Dalrm comes to you, says, look, media wants

to talk to you, because they do. Do you talk after coming back on the suspension and dealing with the whole I would allegations of bribery and having the lawsuit. I would, because you'd rather get ahead of it than not say nothing and let everybody else write the story

for you and write your narrative. So to me, if you got something that you want to get off your chest, you know, and obviously does because he appealed the whole process and he was saying how the NFL was so wrong and all of sudden the third if I'm him, I'm going out there and I'm saying my story exactly how I feel. And because if you don't do that, then story is gonna come out. This is what this is, what happened, This will really have So you got to

defend yourself in some regard. It's not an easy thing to do out there. I know, standing in front of media after he did some crazy stuff, and it's definitely not an easy thing to do. But you gotta get ahead of it and at least write your own story before somebody else does. It's been five weeks, all right, that story is written. But the best thing, the best thing that he can do is come out and explained that he made a mistake, he made a bad decision, and he's ready to move on from it. All right.

I wouldn't be answering questions about details and y. Yeah, but show your face in front of the camera and that's how you get it behind you quicker. All right, you don't speak now. Next week, they still want to know the week after that, they still want to know you play bad. They want to know, right, you know what I'm saying. And the way for you to get that behind you, fat is to get out there in front of the cameras. Take your ill right, yeah, take

take your answer the questions the correct way. Don't answer the questions that you don't need to be answering that don't have anything doing football. Move on and to go out there and play well, and then everybody's gonna forget about it, because if you get it in front of it, like you said, if you getting it now, what do we know about the NFL? Every week there's a different story. I mean, it was you know it was. It was a Jaguars coach. Urban Mayer was over there. He got

in front of it. Next thing you know, there's another story about somebody else. At least he got in front of the camera. You know, at least got in front of the camera. Go out here and play well, and you find there'll be another story next to me. You go out head and play like Garbers though, and lose your spot to steal. Right, Nah, you are drum Now. Let me ask you this. You're coming out there to tell your story? How do you tell it? Do you tell it with deep sorrow? Did you tell it with

a tearing yacht? How do you tell your story? You tell your story straight up. You are, first of all, you about defining no. No, I wouldn't do that, all right, Listen, you make a bad decision, you make a mistake, You serve your time, and then you get to move on. Come out there, Hey man, I don't have to feel no way for y'all. Okay, I missed five games for a mistake that I made, so I don't need to come out here and act like I'm saying for y'all. I'm excited to be back and be be on the

fielding and locker room with my with my guys. That's how you gotta approach it. Do you have a little fun at your own expensive bring a briefcase? Absolutely not, Nah, I couldn't know. I don't though if he had that type, like if he was a looney type personality, then if y'all even pulling that off. But see, he's kind of like serious when it comes into I don't think he can conceive this rolling. Do you do not need none

of that? I'm not gonna play with. First of all, this is probably one of the most embarrassing suspensions that have happened. The whole story came down with the story two games. Then you try to bribe and appeal it. So honestly, to me, I don't think anything is funny about it, especially for him. I assume that he wants to get get on and put it behind him. His family probably wants to do the same thing. Don't come

out here and then try to get a laugh. In my opinion, you o man, do what you want to do. But if I say what you gotta say, move on and go play well and everybody forget about you. Here's one thing that Collins has The local media like him, And that matters in terms of when you're trying to tell your story is having goodwill with the very people who cover you and write the story. When you don't have goodwill, you end up the way Tiger Woods did when he got into his his Nobody gives you the

benefit of the doubt. None. He never wanted to help anybody, so at that point in time when they could give it to him, they gave it back to him. between the tackles. If you're a defensive end out there, if you're if you're a partial on the outside, you're really not going to affect the game that much when it comes to the run game coming from the outside end. He's just just not gonna happen that way. He's gonna be able to go after the quarterback, of course, But to me in this game especially, gotta playing Matt linebacker

one to get the field for things. But that middle of our defense, as we saw against the Patriots at the beginning and the end, showed a little chink in there, just a little bit because Harris was going downhill and they were running the ball well against us up the middle. And I feel as though if Parsons would have got more reps at that linebacker position, he might have been

able to play the run a little bit better. So and especially with Tank and during all those guys coming back, you got guys would pop off the edge that can get off to the quarterback. Leave him a linebacker, let him get good, let him develop that linebacker and maybe before you know a third down passing situation, you sprinkle him in there, and each sprinkle him in there at

the defensive end position. But for me, you gotta keep him at that linebacker at least at least slow down Dalvin Cooking there because if you let him get a head started running and it's gonna be a long after you You're also gonna need him to defend screens as well. He's going he's going to be one of those guys. Well, he's going to have to read and react and get the Dalvin cook before he gets rolling and playing defensive end, playing on defensive line rushing. That is the reason why

teams run screen. If I see Michael Parsons rushing and Randy Gregory specifically on the same side, I'm checking to a screen rot and and that's when you're in trouble. You need your linebackers to be able to make those plays. And I think Michael Parsons will be a huge difference maker at the linebacker position when it comes to stopping Dalvin Cook.
