And I thought what he said was really interesting when he was like, look, you should go with a more conservative approach going into the forty but everything forty two one. Let Dak have whatever he want, whatever you want to do, let him go,
you know, let him go with it. And I thought, you know, look, I think that for those people that believe that Kelly Moore doesn't have a sigh of relief because Dak is back, I think they're mistaken because so much of the offense now is gonna be open. I know, we want to stay with the conservative approach to running. I believe that's gonna that's what we're gonna do. But at a certain point, you want for Dak to be able to command this offense to us like and what
Nick was saying was spot on. Look, you know you have him back. You gotta let this brother do what he do. And once you know you're not giving up any field position once you're forty end let him work his magic. And I'm with all that. I'm with all that. I'm with, you know, with him cooking it up and all that good stuff. But week one, when he gets back, that very first week, let him go ahead and cook it up. I kind of hesitate on that, just to live.
How rusty do you anticipate Dak is gonna be? I think extremely because I think more it's gonna take more than just a couple days of practice to get that rapport with those receivers. I think it's gonna take a little bit more than that. And we saw when he came back from no preseason action. He had training camp, but no preseason action. We saw what he looked like in Tampa Bay. It wasn't as greatest performance. And then the last start before that was the San Francisco game
wasn't as greatest performance either. So for folks to go out there and believe that that's gonna come back in this game after injury, after not practicing for weeks at a time, still have that same connection and still be that explosive doc that we saw in the past, I think that you're living a dream a little bit, you know. I think he's gonna take a little bit of the time for him to get that rapport and get that offense back to where it needs to be. Now, can
he do that? Of course, I believe he can. I mean, he's a great quarterback. I think he can go out there and get this offense where it needs to be. And once he gets there, I'm all good with opening it up. But until we get to that time, say we do a little conservative, lean on our strengths what we've been doing, run game in defense, and take care
of the football. You know, I just don't want, especially in this game at Detroit, I don't want these guys to put the ball in harm's way because I think that's the only way Detroit hangs in in this game. I think that's the only way they can hang with the Cowboys. If they turn the football over. So I'm with having a conservative approach and let Dak eat once against that rapport with the with the receivers out there. Not that happens in game one, I'll be wrong, but
I'll be shocked if it does happen. I go back to a point that I'm just gonna make hammering home again and again. Thirty four minutes and thirty seconds. That was the time of possession that Philadelphia had in that football game. And your defense, for all that you love about your defense, you can't leave anybody out there. And you play for the Cowboys and Jack Wars, but I'll leave you out there for thirty four minutes thirty seconds. It's not gonna be good. You're gonna get toasted. Yeah,
it's like giving extra outs in baseball. You do that, you give a good team while more out it's gonna hurt you. And so I am still of the belief run the ball. This is the you know, you're about the greatest defenses to come play right about now date and and so I think you can accomplish both. I think you can run the football and obviously sets up play action beautifully. If you're running the football, I think
you can accomplish both. You can run the football still allowed Dak Prescott to get out here and do what he does best. I think you can accomplish both. Heck, no, you know what. I that's what I'm so anxious to see. What's gonna be the approach. I don't want them to go with the Okay, we don't. Let's start a caution to the win. Let's go and add this thing out.
I don't believe that we have the receivers to do that. UM. I love our young tight ends and I think they're great possession receivers, taken away guys that can get possessions in the middle of the field, stretch the middle so we can't get to the outside. UM. I like the approach of coming in and relying on this running game. I think we did a really good job of that in the Eagles uh game. It and benefit us to the way that it should have. When you talk to
talk about time of possession, that's a killer. But even with that against our defense, the Eagles should have had more points than they did. With three turnovers tore off the offense didn't do him any favors, No, and it was still a three point game. But I just I'm still of this opinion if your defense is playing like that, you owe it to them to play to their strength. Yeah.
I go back to Barry's time with Jacksonville. Blake Boardles, man, that's all we did running football and played great defense that was hidden and almost got two support until Blake Boardles had to. You know, feel Belichick was like a see if he can win it and he dropped the ball. But it's it's a formula. This is. I was so frustrated watching that. That was terrible because because I had to. I had to. So I'm watching that knowing we're gonna go to the super Bowl, Like, I don't want to
cover spend a week covering the Patriots. Again, I've already done a few times. I don't want to cover these guys. Can't Jacksonville being there to be nice for them? You got the lines, run the football, run the clock, played good defense, get out of town. I mean we could, we could look but potentially, let's say
a two hour thirty minute games. That's quick out run baby everybody, because you know they want to run on. So if everybody running, heck, you be home by three thirty, man, that'd be great. The home. I just I just don't want what happened a couple of years ago when we played Tampa, not this year, but the year before, and we went out there and we threw the ball forty sometimes put up forty some points, and everybody was like, you know, we got it. We live and die by
Dak's arm. That was the worst thing I every think could happen to that year because the rest of the season all we did was s throw the football. We're going against the defense here in Detroit, the rank dead last all right, dead last and yards per game points allowed all that this defense is downright terrible. If we go out there and Dak just throws a field day on it, we know what's gonna happen in the the next
couple of weeks. This is your offense that we're gonna put it in yo hands and we're gonna come up against a defense like we did against the Eagles or something like that, and it's just it's I think it's just not gonna end up good for this team. So I would love the conservative approach, but you know how you know how they are when they get their new shiny toy back. Man they wanted to trust. So three things about trust, time, consistency, and prove all right, we

If it were not for that and he never got hurt, boy, we'd be there. Boy, we'd be baking biscuits right now, what with this, with this deefens coming in here, you wouldn't be talking like that. You'd be saying, Look, let's get Tony Pollitt involved, let's get this running game, but let's try and stay balanced.

All I'm saying is we have an offense that hadn't been running to its fullest potential. Cooper Rush has got out and gotten gotten victories because he's ball control, uh, ball security and field position has been favorable. We saw against the Eagles they had all of those things working in their favorite plus the turnover differential. All right, if we can do the same thing, I think that gets him to where we want him to be. We don't want conservative dac for the next come on now, nah,
That's why I say you build into Yeah. I am with that also, and also look going into Chicago, we got a bye week. He can stay healthy all of that, But we cannot go the rest of the season with this conservative approach. At what point do we take the training wheels back out for that? I think our defense, for all of their faults, that's the one thing that we point to and say, look, man, if y'all can't get this right, I don't care where they rank. Y'all, you're always gonna be in a ball game because you can. You're allowing teams to run on you. First game, Uh, Eagles beat
them thirty eight thirty five. Second game U thirty six twenty seven, they beat the Commanders. Third game they lose twenty eight twenty four to the Vikings. Seahawks beat him in a forty eight forty five game. There was a Patriots beat him twenty nine and nothing. You don't go off like that. SOO went off on them. foods right there. Here we go, here we go eat brunch watching the game. I mean that literally, there were there were sports bars, and just that was our whole thing was, hey, come have brunch here, come watch the game, have brunch, and you just sit there eat all day, watch the games. I mean, I loved it. I absolutely love Sunday night game five o'clock. M see, I gotta get that. And here's the beauty. Heck, by thirty you
got the rest of the nights yourself. You go watching that, I mean, and then you know you got basketball games and other stuff. You just could do other things. Man. It was it was that's why I needed it, That's why I need this. W on on Sunday we played the new game. That way I could be sleep by the nightcap. By halftime, I could, hey, I'd be good ready to coming here on Monday. This game should over
by halftime. Okay. McCarthy was asked yesterday, I was at the press conference, UM, and he thought that you could be overlooking this team trap game. Wow. Carthy said no, he didn't think so. I would like to assume and I am assuming. These guys are professionals. You understood what happened last week. You lost the game, you didn't play your best, and now you find yourself in third place with two teams ones undefeat, the other one has one loss. You have no room for air. You have to come
out here and handling business. You got to and look, I understand you know this. I think this team is terrible, but you gotta respect you know, all opponents, every single sound, everybody's out there as a professional. And what we don't want to see happen is I think it was a noon game as well. When Denver came walking in here. Yep, it was a noon game. Denver came in, everybody kind of thought this would be wrapped up. We can, we can got these guys ain't nothing, and they ran roughshot
all over the Cowboys. They had those two back system as well. They had was a Gordon and Williams and they had a two back system and they was rolling and they was rolling on his defense kind of shut They stocked the box and they had the dvs on the outside to lockdown. So this Detroit team is terrible. But I just don't want a scenario like how that Denver game went down to happen here in the Cowboys because if that happens, all, Oh, you know what is
breaking loose? As a former player, how much do you think about that? How much did you guys talk about that in the room. Oh, you don't want to be the reason. That's the thing. You don't want to be the reason that you're given Detroit a team that you know you should beat down an opportunity to win the game, whether that's by penalties, turning the football over, you know, blowing assignments. You just don't want to be that guy.
And I gotta give him Mike McCarthy credit. Outside of the penalties, this has been a you know, pretty as far as like understanding the playbook and not giving up big plays. This has been a discipline team on both sides. Outside of the penalties. So I think, you know, Mike McCarthy, I think he got a good umbrella on this team to where they understand they can't overlook anybody. They're not that good to just come wake up and flip a switch and go out there and beat down anybody. They're
not that good. And they understand that. So and they understand that they're also going to get the best, you know, shot every single team has because it's the Cowboys. So I think they has done a good job of getting these guys ready, and I don't think they're overlooking any other team from here on out. Yeah, especially in contrast to last season to this season. Everybody goes back when
they start talking about this team, they judged them. It seems like it starts from the Denver game, and that Denver game on it seemed like that's where the domino started to fall and they started getting exposed. Then, Yeah, he showed us, he showed us all. Jay Z had the blueprint. Yeah, Vanjiel came out with it. And I
don't want that nobody else to unveil the blueprint. Aaron Glenn and his boys right now not looking good on defense, and I won't look for everybody's been talking about Swift and Williams, but nobody's talking about Zeke and Pollard, you know. And this, this is the way that you can put a good night Irene on. This game is about having that running game. We talked all about Dak and all of that, but here's for me, the simple thing about Detroit's running game and their big plays and all that
score points, score points. Put your defense out there right. If you do that and they're still trying to rely on this running game, this is a victory because they cannot continue to rely on their running game if they're down points. Jared Golf is what he is. I don't want to call him just the guy because he's gone to a Super Bowl right behind awesome defense by the way, but you know he won't like the pressure that's going to be applied to him by our defense, and you
know it's it's always it's in his file. He does not like pressure up the middle. So if you could get pressure up the middle, if if our edges you know, can come around and put that pressure on him and flush him out. I think this is the kind of game plan to Dan Quinn has to be looking at for Treyvon Diggs and they be they just gotta stop this. You know, almanrad whatever is sat Saint Brown, He's one of the ones that in the Hawker, the TJ Yeah Hawks.
I think those are two guys that if you let then warm up and if they start getting off, then things get kind of fuzzy for you as a defense. But that's where that's where I put my faith in Trey Von Diggs and getting those stops. Now. On the other side, our offense should not be sputtering at any point. I feel like you let these guys, you come into this game and say, man, look we're gonna stay balanced, but up front, we're gonna tee off on these guys, and by the time we get to the fourth quarter,
we're gonna bang him into submission. Exactly because I think I think defensively, I think they're soft to the middle. I think we can get after these guys right up the middle, and we need to let that offensive line exert it will on these guys. Let them fall on them a little bit. Let you know, Tylas Smith be honest,
Zack Martin and those guys. Let them exert their will and push these guys into submission because I don't think they can handle four quarters of Zeke and Pollo just running it right down them, you know, so to me. And then defensively, we look at the quarterbacks that this defense has had success against. It's been guys that are statues in the pocket and golf. He fits the bill. He's one of those guys that just he's gonna stand in there, gonna try to make all the good throws.
But athletically he's not gonna be able to beat you around outside. He's not gonna be able to step up in the pocket and step off through the window and gash you like Jalen Hurts was able to. And like you said, when you get pressure on this game, he starts seeing goals. He's just gonna turn and throw the ball. It don't matter where he's going. I'm just getting rid of it. I don't want you to hit me. And I think we've had a lot of successful quarterback against
quarterbacks like that. So it adds up to a Cowboys winning my opinion. We just cannot turn the football over. We do that, you give hope to the other team and they start getting momentum in it. I've seen crazier things happen, so hold onto the ball. How about the fact that this Lions staff, led by Dan Campbell, they make bad decisions. Yeah, we're watching an epidemic of coaches make goofy decisions like we've never seen before on Sundays, Got the band with the charger Staley he stands bad,
but then he's been helped by last week. This week he was Hackett Broncos who made worst decisions before that. Hi, you got Stefanski, me the Browns making even dumber decisions. But Dan campbells make bad decisions. And if you watch him, the press covers it's on me. We're gonna get better. Put it on like bro at some point in time, it can't beat on you. You're the head coach. You're
supposed to put them in a position to win. And if it's one guy who's winning games watching other people do dumb things, it's Bill Belichick, the man won two Super Bowls watching people do dumb things. is so perfect. If you can, if you can score points and time does not permit you, and you continue to run and you run that clock out, there's no way your opponent can win.
