The coach all right, so um Tony Pollard m okay t pasy so against the Saints, you know, suffered the planner fresh yet and and look he's not right, did not play last week. And so you've got that choice, this option. Now, if you're Mike McCarthy, what do you do? This right here?
To me is it's worrisome. It's worrisome because we can both I think we can both agree that the running game just hasn't been what it was earlier in this season when we had two running backs in the top ten of the National Fotball League talking about Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard. But these past couple of weeks, I would even say the past four or five weeks, it's been all TP as far as explosiveness, juice, momentum, getting the most out of the run game. Pollard has been
able to squeeze the juice out of that. But with him having this with plann or Fascia, Yeah, he turned the left planner Fascioda on deceper second on that long time in New Orleans. It gets the Saints, right. So, so he's supposed to practice for the first time since tearing it according to McCarthy, but he said it's going to be more of a walk through type practice for Tony Pollard. So I'm just thinking to myself, right, you're going to quas the Giants Vegas has your favorite by
ten and a point. Yeah, do you even do you want him playing in this game? No? I feel like this is a game we can win without without Pollard. I mean, Zeke is hampered. We should be able to get squeeze out maybe forty fifty yards from Zeke and there we can find other ways to beat this New York Giants team. We got a Trillo receivers on the outside.
I know Dak Prescott hasn't been the most efficient or the most accurate quarterback as of late, but I feel like we have enough talent to beat New York Giants without Tony polar So I would rest him a little bit. Learn from your mistake that you made last time with Zeke when Zeke had an opportunity to get seventeen days off rest. I'm not saying it could have been you know, he could have been night and day as far as performance wise, But you could at least had a shot
to rest the guy and get him healthy. Learn from that mistake. Don't rush Polar back. We have a commanding lead in this division. I think we'll need Pollard further on if we're trying to make this playoff run. I think we'll need more of Pollard in that case than we do against the New York Giants. So give me a sense of how this injury affects guys. Well, you can't push off. You can't push off. And I've never had the planner or whateverever you fasciat it, however you
pronounce it. But I had a lot of teammates. I had a lot of teammates that did. And when I was in Jacksonville, a guy by the name of Mark Quisley. He was a receiver for us. He suffered the injury and it took him about nine weeks, nine ten weeks until he was able to rejoin our team and be able to be some type of type of a product to productivity out there. So this is not an injury you want to take lightly. Now I understand you know Pollard's in a contract year and he wants to get
back out there, and he's he's he's been juicing. He's been he's been having a lot of juice this year as far as being able to get this run game started. So I understand why he wants to get back out there. But to me, we need this guy in the long run. We don't need him against the Giants right here, right now, they don't even have their starting quarterback. They got there down the Glenning right now, sae Quon Barkley is a shell of himself, the receiving options out there, just having
been doing anything. So I feel as though we can win this game without Pollard. Get this guy to rest, Get this guy to rest he needs So going down this line and taking your thought, yes, okay, you can beat the Giants without him. Yeah, Philly Washington face each other on Sunday. Philly's favored in this football game. Philly wins this game. You face Washington next. Could you rest Pollard again? Why not wait till the Arizona game in January?
If he's needed by the end. But because I don't see, I mean, we still have an outside shot of getting that number one seed in the NFC. We still have an outside shot at that. But to me, I'd rather be that fourth or third in the in the NFC overall with a healthy Tony Pollard than trying to scratch and crawl and bring him back early to try to get beat Arizona and try to get this number one seed that you're not even guaranteed if you do win out.
So to me, I just see there's more. There's more to Tony Pollard, there's more to getting out of him if we rest him for a little bit then try to scratch and claw and try to get this number one seed. Understand for all all Cowboy fans, he's not going to be a hundred percentage. It's just not. You can rest it, manage it, but it's gonna be a problem. So that's gonna be that same type of situation where you hear from Zeke saying, hey, I'm not gonna make it any worse than what it is that I don't know,
that's a great question, that's a great question. I don't know. Um, clearly, you you got the you got the inside with britt up. Hey, how do these types of injuries work for guys, especially for someone who's an explosive guy? Who depends on cutting back his speed, right, So so how does that go there? So that to me, that's a that's a very very very uh interesting proposition where you're talking about the offense
and you're talking about the run game. Here you asked another question about the topics you wanted to get into, and you said, can the defense carried this team to a Super Bowl? No? No, I mean I know if we had d Knack here, he'd be on his high horse talking about dan quinn Is dan Quinnett. And granted, they've done a phenomenal job. They've done way better than expectations, at least my expectations of the defense. They've surpassed it. So they've done an amazing job. But let's be honest, man,
we're gonna be going against in this playoffs. When any talking about the record, I think we've come to the conclusion at the Cowboys they're gonna either win, they're gonna win a division, they're gonna be in a playoffs and mapping they're gonna be able. So any talking about the regular season, no more so, you're not gonna go against guys like Taylor Heineke, you know, Jay Jalen Hurts you know,
you're not going against guys like that. You're going against the Tom Brady's of the world, the Aaron Rodgers of the world, the Kyler Murray's of the world. Let's not forget about Matt Stafford, who's balling. Knew we he's balling out of control. You're not going against guys like that who are just known to throw interceptions and give you a chance. These guys can meticulously go down the field and take what you give them. They're not guaranteed to
just launch the ball downfield. You want to give me five, here, I'll take it. You want to give me eight, here, I'll take it. And that type of game plan I think can cause trouble for our defense because we're not gonna walk away from those games with four or five takeaways. I just don't think it's gonna happen. So to me, Ken our defense stifle those offenses enough to where even if we have a lackluster offensive performance from our from Dak Prescott and these boys, that we can still get
to w I don't know, man, I don't know. I don't think that's a recipe for success. This is for me, and when I do these national radio interviews. I keep hearing the words super Bowl and I and I tell people stopped. I just said, people stopped talking about the Cowboys in super Bowl. It hasn't happened since nineteen ninety six. They haven't played for a conference championship in nineteen ninety six. Stopped looking at this end where the Cowboys have not
participated it. I mean, when you think about the last time the Cowboys wait to the Super Bowl and won it. The Ravens weren't invented. Oh man, They've won two super Bowls. The Saints had never been to a super Bowl. They have a super Bowl championship. The Seahawks had never been to a super Bowl. They've been to three. Oh man, it's been a minute, man, it has been a minute, my friend, it has been a minute. The Carolina Panthers weren't invented. They've been to two Super Bowls since the
Cowboys last win. Now I know you're a movie buff. Okay, So the Cowboys won their last Super Bowl in January nineteen ninety six. Yeah, Um, have you seen Tin cup te Golf movie? Have not seen it? You ever seen A Time to Kill? Yes? I have seen the Time Samuel L. Jackson. Okay, you've seen a Time to Kill. Yes, have you seen the movie instead of course? Okay, big um, I know you've seen the Cable Guy with the Cable Guy. Yeah, I've seen it, Nutty professor. Oh yeah, not one of
Eddie Murphy's top five. But you know, but you've seen what I've seen it. But you've seen it. I mean it. Girls, twenty five million dollars a mission impossible, we're talking them. Okay. These are all movies that were released Jerry McGuire, Jeffy Show, you like oh Me the Money. These are all movies that were released in nineteen ninety six, after the Cowboys, but after they wont to Bowl thirty. Okay, you hate to see it? Okay, I was, I was eight years old. Okay.
So when people want to start talking about Cowboys Super Bowl, no no no, no, no, no no no no. I do believe in this one thing that Jason Garrett said that is so true. Stacked together wins. Okay, And that goes back to a philosopher. You know, don't look at the wall just you know what, Concentrate on laying that brick, lay this one brick, and then go put another brick there. Okay, that's so. So when people talk to me, hey, where the cowboy was? What's your super Bowl? Or what's as
far as they got to go? You know, how about you win the division? Okay, then when your playoff game, all right, well in that mind, and then they win another playoff game. Because just from what you're telling me, okay, you may face a really good quarterback. There's a lot odd the odds are in your favor that you're gonna have to play a pretty good quarterback. You know, do you have to face the Rams Brady Rogers? I mean, who are you going to have to play? So that's
why I'm just sitting here in myself. I'm not thinking about super Bowls, even though I've already booked my super Bowl ticket and my super Bowl hotel through Yes, yes, I got two six dollars. It is. You gotta get it early. Back, I get it early. I had to get her. But it's on NBC. So since I'm working there, we're going. So I'm gonna be there no matter what, regardless of so it don't matter. You're good. I'm so fine. No matter what. We'll watching the super Bowl. Okay, I'm
gonna be there for that. But to start it starts to haz Deefen is gonna put no, no, no, no. Can you win the division and then win your playoff game? Because right now, man, the playoffs are you started looking around here? He says, Okay, there's there's they're teams that are they're good teams. And the NFC's loaded now like the AFC, where it's like a hoshposit who knows, thank you? NFC is top heavy. So so why take that energy talking about other playoffs? No, no, let me ask you this. Then.
Let me ask you this. The Cowboys, what what would be considered a successful or a failure? Like if they were to get I mean understand, get into Super Bowl, that's a success, But you know, does it have to be a long playoff run? Do they have to win at least one? I mean, like, where are we saying the successes for this season with the Dallas cow Boys? You know what, man, that's that's a great question. And I think this is a great thing I learned from
doctor Weltman in business analytics class. It depends, it depends you keep talking about Okay, you know we're trying to do one of these these analytic theories is where he says, what's the answer. It depends. There's a lot of variables. Are we healthy? Are we not healthy? Okay? Back back rolling all right. For instance, a couple of years ago, we all thought the Saints were gonna go to Super Bowl.
They're in the NFC Championship game. All of a sudden, REPS decided not to call a clear passion it's called that would have given the Saints would have won that. Okay, you look at their season, how do you look at it? That's a failure. You didn't get there? But what really you're you know, yeah, you get your game all the way down today? It depends, right, last year, Packers make a great run, but they lose it home to Tampa Bay. You know that ain't what you thought it was going
to be. I would say that woman have to be a disappointment, right, that would be a disappointment. So so many times it really depends how does it end. Where were you did you get hot? Did you have all your guys? I mean, tell me what the circumstances are, Okay, and then you can kind of make all right. Last year, to me, the Buffalo Bills, that was a successful year. They didn't make the Super Bowl, made it all the way to the championship. Nobody thought they would get that far.
Nobody lost to Kansas City. Okay, I mean I go back and I look at your Jacksonville team that went to the AFC Championship. To me, that was successful because nobody thought we would get at all, especially with the Boat at quarterback. I mean, nobody thought I'm talking about Blake Boarders. Nobody thought we could go. No, we're near as far as we did. And to get New England down to three minutes, we had to league with three minutes and twenty seconds left and we got Brady. But
that to me was a successful season. Now, this Cowboys team, if we go into this playoffs healthy, healthy er, Like let's say we get Tige Smith back, our run game is starting to pick up a little bit and we get outsted in the first round by a Stafford team in LA. To me, that's a disappointment. To me, that's yes, it gets our Defensively, we've had success and we've turned things around, it looks like on the defensive side of
the football, so that's a positive. But this team, after you know, the first that runaway that we had what six straight victories. Everybody was counting, let's go, let's playoffs, super Bowl, We're getting this thing done. If we go out there and take a first round exit with is loaded as we've been, we've become, I've got to think that as a disappointment. Okay, I got to So you got your man that quarterback hunting what sixty mildstand if they face if they face the Rams today, who do
you think's favorite that football game right now? Injuries and injuries, how they are? I gotta say the Rams are favorite just because I know what they bring to the table defensively. So if you face the Rams at Jerry World and you lose and their favorite Vegas favorites them, that's a disappointment. It's got to be. It's got to be because we put so much stock on this team and Jerry's like, oh well, this is the best I've seen since who knows when, and we got our quarterback. Our run game
is a little shaky, but that's the marketing. That's the marketing of it. That's you say, hey, we got this blockbuster. You believe it though, okay I believe it. You believe and the defense, the defense swung me I believe it, and once again, twenty five years I've been wanting to believe and I look at it as simply this, until you do it, you haven't done it. So why are we talking about something that clearly has not been able
to have. You haven't been to a championship game. I just I just don't see the excuses this year because you know, two twenty sixteen, two rookies, you know, Dak and Zeke their rookies. You know, they didn't even know what the whole hype is about, what the playoff. They didn't understand. All right, So okay, at three other you got a playoff game. Guess what what what the quarterback
gets hurt, the quarterback gets knocked out? The variable that can happen here that we're talking about something that I just simply say, get to the finish line. Because they haven't won the East yet, we believe they will. Oh yeah, but win it. Okay, win it. Let's see what you can do. You got two division games Giants Washington, you got those before you face a really good Arizona team. That game should tell you something. It should give you
some Arizona game. Yes, you know, if you supposially handle your two business, handle your business. Get to eleven wins? Now, can you get win number twelve? Facing Kyler Murray who's never lost it at and T Stadium and a really good Cardinals team who's going to have to play at a high level when you think about it, because they're sitting here right now. They've gone from the one seed to the three seed, and you've got the Rams one
game behind you that have they played the Rams twice already? Yeah? Okay, okay, so so so this whole premise of hey, facing the Rams in the playoffs, if this thing flips, you may be facing Arizona and you don't want that. But to meet this team has got to get that three seed. We've got to get that three C because if we go to four, we get the Rams. You may not get the Rams. Okay, if the Rams go, If the Rams go win this thing, then you got Arizona. Get Arizona.
Gotta get you gotta get out of that Ram. You got to get out of four in two weeks, you know twice, you know, so you place Arizona ended against Philadelphia, you can play Arizona again. I don't think we want those problems. So so, but some of this may be out of your control. It could be. That's why I think you're talking a super Bowl. Okay, we're a ready talk about the first round match up. That's why we're
talking about so Fi Stadium. What's gonna happen on February fourteenth. Man, build these bricks and get yourself where you need to be. It's it's this is and you played. Because you had old facilities, you weren't getting all that is huge now so so that's what that's what to me at and T Stadium did. It became the I mean it was the most due to about the most
dynamic stadium in the country. So the final four came here, the NBA All Star Game, boxing, boxing, the Super Bowl. So that's what the stadium did. And then Russell Manius sat all time records. So that's the beauty of it. So if you haven't been out there, I would definitely tell you go ahead and hop into that. Okay, let's get back into the super Bowl. Talking about all things equal. Right now, we head into the play house with this specific team going in. Let's just say we have a
healthy task Smith. What do you what are your thoughts? What do you think they What are your percentage that they make it? Fourteen percent? Fourteen? Yeah? That low. Actually, I don't. First of all, I'm not gonna have anybody with any high odds. Yeah, fourteen, I'm not gonna put anybody. I'm not putting anybody in no fifty percent, I mean, because that's that's got's crazy. Yeah, that's crazy. So fourteen percent is where I would put their odds aid, they
might be about twenty I think in a book. But but but I fourteen percent, you're fourteen percent them. I've got to see Okay, I gotta see the quarterback. He has to step it up if they want to make any type of because if he's still in a slump, they they're not getting out of the first price. You need. You need superior quarterback play. Yeah, if you're trying to see fact so so so I got to see that the running backs are both hurt. They're not going to
get one hundred percent healthy here. That is a concern. You're left tackle Tyren Smith not playing dealing with the ankle injury. That is something thing too, that's going to be there all year long. Okay, at this point in time, it is December fifteen. Man, things aren't dudes, and get healthy, okay, right, ye ain't getting better as as a month's going, You're not getting better, right, So it is what it's just
managing the pains, not management. So you've got that. I look over from the defensive standpoint, I'm loving what I'm seeing. They're getting healthy year as it I don't know high, but getting healthy year as a season. Progressing from a coaching standpoint, are you trusting your offensive coordinator in the plays that he's callague Do you think this is a championship uh play caller right now? Is he calling plays or is he calling the game that's complimentary to what
your defense is giving you. You go back and you look at this football game and that they just played. All right, let me go back here. Look at the drive chart at the end because I had wrote down here because it was some man. There's a lot of three announce Okay, here it is here, It is what
I wrote. Okay, you won in six in the red zone against Washington six and fourteen possessions in the fourth quarter, you had five drives, there were three punts all those drives, and three of them were three and outs, and then you also had to pick six interception. Are you calling
plays that you need to win the football game? Not at all, And especially when it comes to the red zone like you mentioned one in six last week, over the past two or three games or four or fourteen in the red zone, four or fourteen in the red zone, that's that's where you make your points, that's where you win games. So fourteen percent, it's you gotta gotta be better than the red zone fourteen percent. And this is
something you haven't done since nineteen ninety six. If you were going to Las Vegas right now, you wouldn't put that much on it with a whole lot of confidence versus saying, you know, uh, put that on Tom Brady or put out the Packers. What do you think the difference is like, Because if we look at Tampa Bay, they're basically gonna say, almost as same squad as the Cowboys. Yeah we got they got the quarterback. I understand that
no more. But it's just I just say, no, it's gotta because when they went against each other, you play, You've seen it up front. I've seen it. The man is magical. The man can do unbelievable to you just asked. But I don't feel like that is that much of a fall off from Tom to where he can't get this thing going. We got the treo receivers, we might not have a run game, we got the offensive line. Defense to me, is better than theirs. They got the magic man, we don't. But I don't think he's that
big of a drop off to Tom Brady. I don't. If Tom Brady's at tendacks an eight, we gotta be. I mean, he's just in the law right now, I'm not so sure if it's just that Prescott or if it's defense is figuring out Kelly more because we gotta get on him as well, because we were all he's in his bag. He's just that in the third these past couple of weeks, he hasn't been able to move the ball, that creativity. It's been all just dropped back
pass us. So jameis Winston's last year there, James James goes thirty and Tampa Bay misses the playoffs, and so many times in those games they were right. Tampa was right there in a lot of games. Couldn't win a lot of them because you had again, you ain't gonna win with thirty. Wasn't all his fault, but boy, he played a big part in it. He did. So now he goes, you enter Tom Brady, You're not losing those kinds of games. He's taking what's give them. You're winning
most of games. They also he also got Bruce arians I need you and Bryan Leftwich to call more of what I need. They go seven and five. They get on the same page with Tom. Defense gets healthy. You see a Vita Vey to come back. Boom. They go the difference was the quarterback. It was I'll give you that, But do you know he is that dude? And Prescott while he duled Tom Brady in Week one, height Dak Prescott is not playing where we saw a week one
right now. So no, I can't even talk about it Dak and Tom Brady in the same sentence because I don't think I could put Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady in the same sentence. Wait, Rod, you don't think a Rod's up there with Brady? Okay, let me see. Uh, Tom Brady went up to cold Lambo through three interceptions and through three picks now and one. But it wasn't because of defense won the game. Yes, the defense won the game, but thirty for thirty wouldn't have had him
in the game. They didn't been sitting at home right now watching it had him in the game. So these are the things and just what he brings to it. He is And and I look at Aaron Rodgers now and I just say to myself, how many of these heartbreaking losses in that in that NFC championship can you keep taking?
