Introduction and Positive Feedback

This is the player's box. Hello, everyone, and welcome to another episode of The Player's Box. I'm Desiree Krafchick, alongside Jenny Brady, Madison Keyes, and Jess Pagoula. We were so overwhelmed with the positive feedback that we received from everyone. And it's been so fun to hear that people enjoy our content and that they're interested in our behind the scenes from our point of view.

Thank you so much to everyone who's been tuning in, and it really means a lot to us. So with that being said, let's get into it.

US Open Check-in and Escape Room

Yeah, just checking in on Jess and Desiree. You guys are still here competing at the U.S. Open. I think, Des, you play doubles tomorrow. potentially, and then Jess playing singles tomorrow as well. So how's the tournament looking for you guys? How's it going? done anything fun while you've been in New York besides play tennis and spend like 15 hours a day on site yeah I mean yeah I play tomorrow so well

Yeah, we're supposed to play tomorrow for doubles. I don't actually know when I play yet, unless the schedules come out yet. But we actually did a sleep room with the four of us, so that was fun. Well, plus three other randoms, but... It was great. It was a really fun escape room. It was what? Only murders in the building was the theme. I still have yet to see it. Who hasn't watched the show?

Yes, I was halfway through the episode, actually. Okay, I will definitely go watch that, but it was a really good habit. I was halfway through it. I was thriving. I was not a bluff. I was not a bluff. I crushed it. I crushed it. You guys were all doing your thing. And I was over there in my corner doing my nine piece puzzle. Like for like ages three and up.

we did we crushed that we had what 20 minutes left in our room and it was we got it done in like 40 minutes we did a good job a lot of teamwork it was 30 37 oh wow wow

Rooftop Bar and Hectic Schedules

it was a great room though yeah i remember yeah we did what we we did an escape room and then i don't know went to a rooftop bar that was fun yeah let loose a little bit after a rough practice That was a bad practice day. Hey, you know, it worked. It worked, right? Practice day for me. It did. It worked. I played so much. I've been playing a lot better since that night, to be honest. Like way better. Two drinks. Come on.

I know. I sent my coach a picture of two drinks. Well, it was one, me having one, Des having another drink. And he said, love it. Only go around once. I was like, what? But it's also so true. We only live once, so I guess. Yeah, exactly. Oh, I get it. Oh, you didn't get it, Jess. I thought he meant only do one round because I was there. Oh, that didn't happen, did it?

I was there with you guys. Yeah. And literally after your first drink, you guys closed the tab and I was like, oh, gosh, we get to go go back to the hotel, you know, get some sleep. And then Justin said, Des, and it's like another one more. and then said oh sure she was like sure and i was like no i was like why are you already closing yeah i was like no maddie was already asleep i was gonna say meanwhile already talked i was talked into bed

That was a fun night. It was nice. It was nice to just chill. We're making it sound like it was some wild night. We had a big bender. Two drinks. Yeah, no. And this was what? This was Wednesday? That was almost over a week ago for you. And then I played Sunday night. So it wasn't. Yeah. It was. That was like a long week. I feel like the week before the US Open goes by so fast, but it gets so long. Drag. Like.

yeah you're like wow it's tuesday i'm here and i don't play for almost another week which is i don't know it can be like stressful and kind of fun but i don't know i guess and you guys have You guys have a lot that goes on. You know, you and Maddie, Jess and Maddie have all this media stuff you have to do for a hotel. You have to do a bunch of sponsors. It's just a lot that goes on for you guys.

I feel like we're all just chaotic running around the city like chickens with our heads cut off, basically. That's what I feel. It feels very New York. I feel like I'm in the Devil Wears Prada, basically. My days were scheduled to the minute. Yes, literally. Oh, we know. We did the escape room. I know.

I put it in my calendar. Jenny had a calendar of all of our practices and everything. I was like, oh, when can we hang out? It's like Jenny's kids making sure that everyone got on time and that we met up later. It was great. Yeah. Yeah, you came to the escape room and you were like, oh, you look cute. And you're like, yeah, I just did this, did my hair and makeup, and then I had to go do this event, and then I had to go do this, and then now I'm here. All in the span of like three hours.

That was a busy day, which is why I went to bed. Yeah. So we celebrate for you. Oh, and you had like an 8 a.m. practice or something? 9 a.m.? Yeah, I had an early practice the next day. What time did you get up? Like 6? 6.30? Yeah, I think like 6.30, which as much as I love to go to sleep early, I'm also not a morning person. So, yeah.

Tournament Play and Lefty Challenges

be tough it's tough coffee coffee gets her through the day yeah definitely um so i play my third round tomorrow which i play vika I play Azarenka. Who do you play, Des? I play Hayley Baptiste and Whitney Osweigwe. Oh. So, yeah, it'll be a good match. I think, I don't, how did Whitney, or, and you're playing with Hayley, right? Yeah, I'm playing with Storm Hunter this week. We've been trying to play doubles the last, I guess, month and a half together.

some of us have been injured and we're just, our schedules have been off. So it's going to be nice to play together for this tournament and the next few until the end of Asia. So yeah, it's nice. She's, she's a good partner. She's, it's been, she's obviously been number one in the world. double she's playing singles she's coming back from an injury um but yeah always good to play with another Aussie two lefties is tough

We actually had a all lefty doubles, all lefty doubles practice. And I don't know if we will ever do that again because, yeah, it was. serve return volley like serve miss return like it's just it's just not not it it was not fun So the lefty spin? Yeah. No, we didn't. Welcome to our lives. Yeah, welcome to every single time. It's nice when we're playing the righties. Yeah, it's great when we're playing the righties, but when you're playing your own kind, it's just not fun. You're like, ugh.

So this is what it feels like. Yeah, it sucks. It's such, I always say it's like a cheat code. Like if I was playing video games or something and like you put in a cheat code, it's like being left-handed. That lefty spin.

Extensive Skincare Routines

Yeah, lefties are a pain to play. Yeah. But you love us. Can you guys drop your skincare routines? Because everyone's been saying you're a hoe. Why don't you drop yours, Jenny? You're glowing. I already did drop mine in the first episode, second episode. We need to elaborate a little bit. A little La Roche-Posay and a little Ready 24. Sponsored by Maddie and Jess. Sponsored by Maddie and Jess. No, but I've been using the, oh gosh, I'm totally going to butcher it.

Chicha blast. Chicha blast. Chicha blast. I told you I was going to butcher it. Chicharone. That's what you were thinking of. Chicha. Yeah, so we're using that. And Kelly actually. Tell me to use that one. My sister. Kelly is Jess's sister. Yes. She also gave you a hydrafacial one time. She is actually an esthetician. Shout out to Kel's. Can you come on tour, Kelly? There's been lots of requests for her to come on tour and just give everybody facials.

I don't think that's happening. Come on, Kelly. Give us a discount. She can't travel with her. No, you actually need a machine for a hydrofacial. But that would be sick. Maddie, what's your skincare routine? Oh, gosh. Tell the people what they want. Literally, there's not enough time. It's ridiculous. We need to like move on to the next. We only like we only have so much time. Okay. What do I like? Three tops. Yeah. What's like your. Three must haves. Azelaic acid.

I found an azelaic acid serum. Changed the game. I don't even know what that is. Obviously, La Roche-Posay sunscreen. Always necessary. And then I'm really liking... I think it's Tatcha's like cleansing oil, which is really good for taking sunscreen off because I have like super acne prone skin. So I feel like. If I can get everything off, then usually I can avoid breakouts. But yeah, if anyone ever has any sort of like skin problems on the road, just come to my room because...

My toiletry kit is 20 pounds. It's Sephora. Yeah, I have Sephora in my room. Maddie, just let me know. Yeah, it's great. I feel like that's actually true because skin problems. Yeah. And I was just like, oh, I have this if you want it. You try it. Or like, oh, you like seriously? Okay. Or sometimes we'll be like, hey, has anyone tried this? Like, oh, I'm breaking out here. Or, oh my gosh, my skin's so oily. What do we do? Oh, here's a wreck. It just sends like...

She ends up sending five recommendations in the group chat. Yeah, literally. Oh, okay. I'll just go to Sephora and just buy all of them. Or nine. I get so overwhelmed.

Jenny's Sephora "Girl Math"

Yeah, Jenny's just like, okay, so Jenny and we went to Sephora. Wait, what was it? What? We went to Sephora. We went to Sephora and I was looking for an exfoliating face wash. And I was just, I just wanted one to like sample. So I didn't want to buy the big tube. And they were like, I don't know, like 60.

Jess was like, oh, this one's amazing. You got to try it. And I was like, yeah. And I listened. It's like $68. And I was like, yeah, like, what if I hate it? You can return it. Well, it doesn't matter. I didn't want it. And turns out... We were checking out and she found this one. It was like a small little sampler. And she was like, oh, Jenny, look, it's on sale. And I was like, yep, don't tempt me with a good time on a sale. So I went and I got it. How much was it?

I don't know the lady rung me up and then it was like six dollars. I think you spent a total. Oh, she's lying It wasn't six dollars on another thing. Oh, I got another thing for my flyaways the day Day. Yes. That thing. And so that was $16 maybe. And then I got the thing for free exfoliating. Exfoliating face washers is not funny. Whoa. I thought it was like a deal. It was like $30. Like my total was like $30. And Jess just starts laughing and is like.

$30. And then she asked the woman who rang me up and she was like, is that like the lowest you've ever seen at Sephora? Like $30? Who comes into Sephora and only spends $30? Unreal. And I was like, me? Yeah, and then she was like, yeah, that's pretty low. Yeah. Well, she wasn't having it with us.

No, she was so over it when she goes, oh, did anyone help you today? And I go, you. And then she's like, OK. And then I told Jess to say the same thing. I was like, tell her she helped you when she asked. Who helped you today? And I was like, she was like, who helped you today?

mm, you. And then she's like, mm, okay. And then I said the same to Des. I was like, Des, when she asks, like, who helped you today? Or if anyone helped you today, just say you. And then Des was like, yeah, you. And literally, she just rolled her eyes. She's like...

She wasn't thrilled. She was like a mannequin. No, she was not having it. She didn't laugh. I thought maybe she would laugh. Also, you should get a medal for spending... so little at sephora because it's like i can't spend under a hundred dollars that's what i'm saying it's not just me it's impossible it's impossible

But every time we tell this story, Jess says she started at like $11. Then it went to nine. And now it's now I got the item for free. She's like, oh, and you're free. There were some like. deal or something like that's why I was like oh you should just buy this because then that'll be cheaper or something like that I don't know I thought there was a deal it was definitely a deal but girl math got it okay let's move on

Most Likely To: Digital Habits

Okay, post Jenny. For the fans to get to know us better, let's move on to a fun little game called... Who is Most Likely To? Okay, so... Who? Who is most likely to text the wrong group chat? Des. Des. Desiree. I didn't even have time to answer that. Okay. One, zero, Des. Well, she's already done it. Yeah, multiple times. Multiple times. Who is most likely to send a voice note? Me. Two zero. Oh, can I do this one?

Can I do this one? No. Who's most likely to hit you with a FaceTime? Jenny. Me. I literally just FaceTimed Jesse right before we started recording. Yeah. Wait, can we do an over under how many times you've FaceTimed people in a week? Ooh. You can probably check your phone. Yeah. Or day. Actually, in the day when you're home. How many FaceTimes in one day? Over or under six? Yeah. Like six different people or like six times? No, just like six times. Times. Doesn't matter.

Like, we'll get back to that. Yeah, like six. Like, yeah, it's not more. Maybe. is like under meaning like can like is six under six or like five is under six yeah so over under over seven is over six I just prefer like the face-to-face interaction because I like facial expressions and I feel like sometimes on the phone it just gets like mundane and boring and sometimes a text is just like

You know, the person's on their phone staring at their phone. And when you text them and they don't respond within like 10 or 15 seconds, then it's like, OK, well, we could have like solved this with a quick FaceTime. But then sometimes I like to linger. Yes. We know. We know. Love a lingering FaceTime.

Yeah, there have been times where we just sit there and it's like, yeah, what's for dinner? Oh, what'd you have? And then it's just, oh, yeah, I had sweet greens. OK. And there's just silence and it's OK, I'm going to go. Oh, OK. Bye. And he's like, Dad. And I'm like, I got to go. We're not chatting. I'll FaceTime my sister. And she's like, OK, well, I'm going to the grocery store. And I'm like, OK. And she's like. And I'm like.

Can I go with? That is so true. Can I go with? Can I go shopping with you? You know, just bring the phone. She's like, no, that's so annoying. That's so obnoxious. Jenny, what am I going to do? Like be on FaceTime with you at the grocery store. You'll be like talking out loud. What are you getting? You asparagus. Wow.

Most Likely To: On-Court Personalities

Literally. Okay, who is most likely to smash their racket? Jenny. I was going to say me. I was going to say yes. Oh. Well seen. You just smashed a racket, didn't you? Okay. We don't have to fight over that. I used to be like a little hothead when I was a kid. Oh. I wasn't allowed to smash a racket when I was a kid. Okay, anyway. Who's most likely to grunt the loudest? We're not really grunt. Jenny? Hey! I can kind of get into it. You know, Jenny?

Jenny, when the forehand starts going, it's a little louder. Yeah, it does get a little louder. Definitely you. Sometimes I lose myself in it. With that heavy forehand. I lose myself in it. I lose myself a little bit. It's true, though. I just, in the moment. Who is most likely to forget the score, Des? Yeah. I have an example. Oh my gosh, this is that Easter Bowl one year. You know the scorecards where you put the ball in, you do it yourself? So they obviously have roaming.

Chair Empires, by the way, Easter Bowl is a huge junior event. It's an ITF event that's hosted in Palm Springs. Everybody plays Easter Bowl at some point in their life. Yes, and that's where I grew up. It's a hometown. Everyone came and watched, so just felt the pressure anyways. We were doing the scorecard ourselves and I was up 4-1. And of course, like I forgot the score throughout playing and I was just so zoned in. And she went to go change the score.

She flipped it to her side and it was 4-1 to her side. Didn't even think anything of it. So by the time like games happened, I lost like two other games. So then it ended up being 6-1. And she's like, no, no, the score is 6-1. And I was like, no, it's 4-3. And she's like, no, it's 4-1. And I was like, I was at 4-1. So then we had to go back and do, in junior tennis, did they ever do this with you where they had to go back with the score?

And you never agree. No, we never agreed. And she's like, no, I was up for one. And I was like, no, I was. Oh, my gosh. My dad lost his shit. He was like, you're up for one. What are you doing? And I was like. Oh, no, I'm 13. I don't know what's happening. And oh, my gosh. Yeah, it was wild. But so then I end up losing the match because I was like flustered and I didn't know the score. And I we had to have the.

a linesman or chair empire sit on our court because my dad was like, she can't keep score. You need to stay on court because this girl's cheating. And I was like, oh my gosh. So yes, that's me. Yes. Oh, baby Desi. With my tinted transition glasses and my visor. Oh, my God. Oh, I forgot you wore the transition glasses. Yes! My dad was like, you need to protect your eyes. You gotta wear these glasses. They have transition. When you go into the sun, it's dark, and then...

When you go inside, it's still dark. And I'm like, I can't see. So, like, it's still dark. Oh, my God. We'll get a, we'll get a. photo of that for everyone to see oh it's true in in juniors people maybe you don't know when the umpire when you have a disagreement about the score which happens every single match in juniors you have the umpire comes and they roam

And they're like, OK, what score do you agree on? And you have to go back to that score. But obviously you don't agree on anything because either someone's cheating you or you mess up and you don't remember. So you end up going way too far back to like.

it could be like for all and you're like well we knew it was one zero and they're like oh you have to go back to one zero and where you're like what and then parents freaking lose it and then you got to call the umpire to make them sit on your court and they don't always sit on your court they have to like see that like

Something is really wrong to be able to stay. And then half the time they don't even do anything. So. It's a wild experience. Wild. For juniors. But yet it's not me. Yes. Junior tennis. Wow. Yeah. Who is.

Most Likely To: Off-Court Quirks & Professional Life

Who is most likely to challenge a ball that was way out? Ostapenko. Ostapenko. Keep that in. Or Jenny, high five. Lofting it up to you. So many. It's true, though. She challenges everything. She challenges everything. Go insert the meme. Was that out? Julie. Julie. He's foreign. Okay. She actually does. That might possibly be a cut, but also she kind of stands by no facts that she like, she really does think like the Hawkeye is wrong. Like she said that.

Multiple times. I mean, there are some times where we've all been like, whoa, that looks like it's out. And it's called in by like this much touching. This whole question could potentially be a cut. No. No, no, no. We're keeping it in. Okay, we'll fill it out. Who is most likely to nap in the locker room? Des. Des. Seen it. I love a lot. Oh. Who is most likely to become a television analyst? Ooh, Jessie?

I'd say myself. Jessie. I can see Jess, yeah. I see it. Who is most likely to become a coach? I would say myself. Jenny? I could see. Jenny? I see it. I could see Jenny. I see it. I see it in the future in about a month. In a month or so. I could see it. I could see in Asia. Yeah. Who is most likely to be late to practice? Des.

Des, well, me. Yeah, not any three of us. Oh, okay. I'm pretty diligent with being on time. Is this practice with other people? Usually we're practiced by on our own. That's a big... That's not a big difference. Okay. I will say me. I'm late to my own practices too. Late to my own practices. For sure. But with other people.

always early yeah if my warm-up's going late i'm like no we're done i got i can't make the other person i hate being that person i will say the one time i am usually is if i'm practicing right before an hour and then i have to run to the other side of the courts to go and hit with them so that doesn't really but i try to be i try to be diligent but yeah okay so we're all we're all pretty good But I'm late to my own practices, yes. Who's most likely to be found in a player's buffet?

Jenny. With the porterhouse. With a steak. Or two. Or two. Or she's just lingering. Or nine. Yeah. No. How about the one time when you landed? Yeah. When you landed here in New York, you're like, Des, can I get a steak? And I was like, okay, what else do you want? Actually, can I get two steaks with that? Okay. Two steaks coming right up, Jenny.

Hilarious Equipment Mishaps

Thank you, ma'am. And you did eat two steaks. She did. Who is most likely to forget their shoes or equipment? Des. Because the one time you... Remember we played dub? When? Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Okay. She was out of the locker room. Like, yeah. So we got her stolen. No. Yeah. I always have backups though. Yeah. It does. Didn't have backups. Okay, well, this was my first slam. So Jess and I played French Open together 2019 and...

I was on a losing streak. Oh, my gosh. You just broke out. You had a breakup. Yes, broke up. Had a breakup. And we win our first round. I obviously left my shoes in the locker room where you can store your shoes in the locker room, leave it. They come in clean or whatever. And I come back the next day before our match. We were playing, I think...

I can't remember who we were playing, but I come back to the locker room and my shoes are missing. And I went to the locker attendance and I said, hey, I had a pair of shoes in here and they're gone. I only brought one pair because I was, you know, clay season. I just. thought bring one pair of clay season doesn't wear so they're like no we can't find it and i'm like oh my gosh where am i gonna find shoes like what where am i gonna find shoes so kathy rinaldi mvp came in clutch and

She was like, hang on. I got a guy. Let me just ask him. I'm a size eight and a half. And they only had a nine and a half. And I was like, I'll take any shoe. Just give me whatever shoe. I got to play in about.

two hour and a half brings me the shoes wearing two pairs of socks we actually win the match and i had blisters all over my you remember when you called for the physio and i was like des we are killing these girls why are we like taking a like a training break she's like you're like my toe i was like like no we're like i was just like oh my god but we did we won the match we won the match but first of all these shoes were not broken into okay and brand new like a full size too big

blisters everywhere and note to self in the future bring two pairs of shoes even one in the backup so yes never again learned your love we just really Can we just really quick revisit your thought process of clay season? I'm going to bring one pair of shoes. You know, that was my first French Open. That was my first French Open. And I just, I don't know, I didn't know any better. And you know what? You learn from your mistakes. So I have. Okay? I have learned from them.

I don't leave. Well, that's a lie. I do leave my shoes in the locker room, depending on the tournament, you know, if I really trust them. French is notorious, though, for things going missing. Missing, yes. Gabby Dabrowski got her shoes stolen that year, too. And Maddie at AO. No, AO, before my final, I was walking into the locker room and I was like, my shoes are gone. So I had to wear a brand new pair of shoes for the final.

It was fine. Bjorn was freaking out. He was like, you can't wear a new pair of shoes. And I was like, well, what? Like there's no, you want me to do. I was, it was weird. I was like very chill about it. The poor locker room ladies were like, Oh, they're great. Where are your shoes? Cause they're the greatest. Yeah.

And I was like, guys, it's fine. It's totally fine. I have more shoes. And they're like, no, you can't wear new shoes. And I was like, why am I the only person that's like, no, it's fine. I'm good. Did you have orthotics in? In your other shoes? No, I always put my orthotics in my locker. Smart. Oh, okay. That's very smart. And I always have an extra pair of shoes in the locker. Yeah. That's smart. I just don't want it to be smelly in your locker.

Yeah. Ooh. My feet don't really stink. Well, mine don't smell that. Okay. I do. I did one year on the grass. I can't remember. I don't think I had grass court shoes. I was like, okay, yeah, I'll just go to her Togenbosch and buy a pair of grass court shoes.

my match and no um i didn't have grass court shoes there was nowhere to buy grass court shoes like literally nowhere and asia muhammad shout out asia she gave me a pair of uh grass court shoes and they were like a size 11 or like oh my god half and i'm like a 10 so they were very large and I played my match with them, and I literally, like, felt like I was wearing clown shoes. It was so bad. It was so bad. But for one tag.

The grass cord shoes, you cannot find them anywhere. Like, it's not a thing. Now, I feel like nowadays... You learn from your mistakes. Nowadays, it's a little bit better. But, like, they're still really hard. They're so hard to find. I remember... And they're expensive. They're very expensive on Amazon. I remember buying my shoes on Amazon when I first played on grass. Yeah. And they were not real Adidas shoes. They were Adidas. When I first started.

Clumsiness and Home Accidents

On grass, I'd have to grind to get shoes because I wasn't sponsored or anything. So there was just no, you would get nothing. Yeah. Okay. Selective. Okay, who is most likely to trip over nothing? Jenny? I was going to say myself, too. Wow, we're all clutches? Yeah. I mean, yeah, I would say me, too. Jess, did you not see me, like, eat shit in Ash Gym?

the other day. Oh, wait. I think I caught the end of it. I was holding a med ball and Kelsey had me doing these like step up things where I'm like in a lunge and then I step up onto the box like really fast and then put the med ball over my head. Yeah. i literally like didn't my foot like the top of my foot hit the box and and literally I went over the boss and then the med ball just flies out of my hands and hits the...

the squat rack, like, the weights on the side of the squat rack, and I'm just, like, so embarrassed, but I, like, get up so fast and I'm like, did anyone see it? Like, did anyone see it? I'm like, okay, pass you the ball. Let's go. Rep five, like, I'll do next. I think I caught, like, the end of it. I didn't see the fall, but I saw, like, right after there was, like, this awkward, like, like, you were, like, down here.

And like the box was there. And I was like, I don't think that was like what it was supposed to be. That wasn't the exercise. No. Yeah. And then Kelsey was kind of like giggling. And I was like, oh, OK, that didn't. I've definitely tripped on the carpets like at the airports or like some hotels where they just, I mean, they're the worst. But it's just tripping on air. Well, I trip on the ground at the airport. It's so like...

Tacky? Sticky. Yes. Yes. I like hit things all the time in the room and then Taylor... my husband just he just goes are you okay like that's yeah oh yeah he's just like what like are you like what's wrong with what i just saw you like drill your knee and then hit your toe and then hit your arm and like hit your toe oh and he's just like it's like the silent he's like you don't pay attention i'm like i'm sorry i don't i don't care why do you care so much

Bjorn gets legitimately mad at me because he's like, especially for home, because I also have like... Like I'm basically like trying to kill myself all the time. I'm like climbing up on top of stuff or whatever. And sometimes he'll get nervous to leave because he's like, I'm going to come home. You're going to be standing on like.

a nightstand trying to hang something and you're gonna fall and you're gonna break everything and like he'll come the amount of times he's come home and i'm like like bandaging something because I cut something oh last summer I sent Jenny a picture I literally cut like a chunk of my finger off oh my gosh I'm like, no, it's fine. It's totally fine. I had to wrap it. Meanwhile, there's legitimately a chunk of my finger gone. And I had to tape it for three weeks. And every time I said...

Oh, I have to go to the physios to get my fingers taped. You could tell Bjorn was just like... This could have been avoided. Yeah.

Post-Loss Haircut Dilemmas

Okay, so Maddie, checking in on you. Are you home in Orlando? What are you up to? I'm so organic. Smooth transitions. That was so nice. Oh, my. Look at that. Okay, Maddie. Maddie, can we talk about your post-match wellness checks that we did the other day? and the photo you sent us yes the video you sent us um i've been as everyone knows i've been friends with laura robson for

Years and years and years. She used to be on the tour. Now she's a commentator. So it's great because we still have a lot of crossover. But she texted me a wellness check after my match the other day. And I was like, I think I want to cut a bob. Should I cut a bob? Should I cut all of my hair off? That'll make me feel better, right? I'll feel lighter.

She sends me the clip from Fleabag after she has that butcher haircut. We need to clip it. This is where we clip this scene. I was like crying laughing and I was like, oh, so.

so i shouldn't get a bob a bob in fact won't fix all of my problems okay i'll keep my hair but it's french it's french oh that clip was so good i was like for those of you who are not yeah watching this you got to watch this on youtube to see the reference of this bob because wow you could pull it off maddie it's unsalvageable yeah it's french

I'm going to go. I don't know. Should I? Watch. We can. It's so funny. We can make it work. Just like kitchen scissors after a loss. Just straight. Just hotel bathroom. In the locker room post-match, we're like, get the scissors away. Oh, my gosh. No. From the physios, they're like, what are you doing with those? They're down. Like, you know, you know, someone's like really going through it when all of a sudden they show up with like an extreme haircut. You're like, are things tough?

Are you okay? No one talked you out of that? Carlos shaved his bangs? Carlos shaved his head. Oh, God. And we were like, oh? I... Can we talk about bad hair? He loves it. I thought Hora is off the charts. Charts? Isn't that what Gen Z kids say? I don't mind it. I don't mind it. I think he brings it off. I do think. I think he does. It's just very drastic from what he was. I feel like it's going to grow back in three days. Oh, for sure. Wildfire. Yeah. I think it just...

It seems dramatic because he, I mean, he has like such thick, dark hair and you're just so used to seeing that. And it was also after I lost and I was leaving and we passed each other and I was like... Was that Carlos? Is he false? I can do a bob now. He cut all his hair off. Should I cut my hair? Carlos cut his hair. So should I cut my hair? Britney Spears 2.0. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh. Leave Britney alone. Yeah, that's true. She was going through a rough patch. It's okay.

Yeah. No pun intended. We love Brittany. Jenny. Come on. Yeah. I'm not a hater. I was just talking with her. Oh, wait. Jenny doesn't like Brittany. Yeah. We're gaslighting. Right back at you. Des is gaslighting me. What? I don't know what you're talking about. I love her perfume. Fantasy. Shout out, Brittany. Okay, wait. So since obviously I had to be talked out of a...

Comfort Food & Post-Loss Indulgences

post-loss haircut what's like the most unhinged relatable like what's our post-loss thing des is yours come mac does bad food and alcohol no no no It's definitely comfort food and just alcohol. I don't know. Just with friends. Maybe tequila shot because honestly, I just need one drink and I'm on the floor. So, you know, cheap date over here. Tacos and margaritas. Love a good margarita. I mean, Jenny's like... Jenny's, I'm such a foodie. I know it's junk food. No sugar.

I've had this discussion with Kelly, my sister. So Kelly says Jenny's super picky. Do you think Jenny's picky or super particular? I think she's more particular because she definitely knows what she likes and doesn't like. she's definitely particular picky is more like to me like oh i only eat chicken fingers and spaghetti or something she only eats steak but yeah i don't know i feel like sometimes she'll say like oh i don't like that and you're like oh

You've tried it? And she'll be like, no. Like, I'll eat it. I'll eat it. But it's not like I won't go and order it. Like, oh, okay. Like Milanese. Like, I won't go and order it. And if someone at the table, like if it's like family style, like, yeah, like I'll try it, but I'm not like super stoked to. eat it i'm not like yay we get to eat melanase tonight like i love melanase i know that's but like what's your okay so what's your

like, go-to junk food. Because, like, you don't like fried chicken. You're super picky about, like, pizza. You don't like sugar. I like my pizza how Dave Portnoy likes his. So no flop. No flop. Yeah. Great undercarriage. Has to have a great undercarriage. Not too cheesy. And don't even think about throwing that bitch. Oh my god. Okay, so like, what are we, what's like the go-to, I'm gonna like, pig out. Ugh, I lost a, like, heartbreaking match. What are you doing?

I don't know. Like, whatever I'm in the mood for. Pizza's good. Pizza, but it has to be a particular pizza. Steak? And then, like, ice cream. I like ice cream. Yeah, steak, probably a bone-in ribeye, tomahawk, something like that. How about nothing bun cakes, carrot cake, Jenny? Oh, nothing bun cakes, carrot cake is so good. So good. So good. That's a good one. Thank you, Jenny, for introducing me to that. It's life changing. Eataly gelato the other day was very good.

Everyone in the group is like, wow, Jenny's eating sugar. I'm like, I don't want to say that. Because you don't eat sugar. Yeah, I don't have like a massive sweet tooth. Like I prefer salty, like pretzels. Come on, like peanut butter. Everybody knows I'm obsessed with it. Yeah, you do like peanut butter. But you can't even have it. You're allergic. No, I'm not allergic. You're intolerant? Intolerant.

You're intolerant, so just tolerate it. How about after the AO final when we got you a cake? Asia, yeah. The peanut butter. Yes. Yes. I need an insert photo. Yes. That was a really good cake. And you're like, oh, my God, I just need to have a few bites. And we're like, can you have that? And you're like, no, but I really want it. No, it's so good. So, so good.

Fan Questions Intro: Mateo's Follow

Yeah. Yep. All right. Should we do some thank you and shine, baby? Oh, Jenny's time to shine. Jenny's time to shine. Here we go. She's kind of posted this entire episode. She's been shining the whole time. Okay. Okay. Now it's time for fan questions. Okay. Oh, the best part. Read the names off. Mateo. Okay. Yeah, he followed me. Yeah, we ain't talking about that first. Let's go back. Let's go to that. Okay, okay. For anybody that has watched or listened to the previous episode, Mateo 513.

Shout out because I was just scrolling my Instagram like two hours ago and I sent a screenshot of his follow to my Instagram. Like he followed my Insta, whatever. Follow for follow maybe. Are you going to follow him back? He already follows you. What are you talking about? Yeah. I don't know. I got... Oh? He's getting flushed. I'm circuiting. Ah! Um... Okay, well, okay. So, Mateo513 followed me on Instagram. And he asked, do you remember what question he asked?

He asked one of the fan Q&A and you were trying to pronounce his username. It was funny. Yeah, I should say how do you pronounce it? Okay.

Fan Question: Replaying Key Tennis Points

From Strange Design 13, if you could replay any point from your career, what point would it be? Oh, that's deep. Oh, and the final last year against Sabalenka, I think I had a game point and I had this like backhand short ball situation that I feel like I like couldn't miss with my eyes closed and I missed it.

Cause I kind of like second, it was kind of short and like, it kind of died low. And I like changed my mind of whether I was going to go line or cross or something. And I missed it. And that one kind of replays in my head. I knew Jess would have an in-depth, detailed point. I was going to say, I feel like points that I've lost...

If I've lost a match, it's usually not a singular point where I'm like, damn, that was the changer. That was the one. Yeah. It's usually like, like, kind of like the whole... like all of the points i should go back maybe like can we just start over should we should i try waking up that day Maybe I should have chose heads instead of tails. Like that would have changed things for me. I think for me, but that one sticks out to me for some reason.

The one point I can think of is at AO last year, I was playing mixed finals with Neil Skupski and we were playing Sue Wei, Shea, and Jan Zielinski. And we had match point and... It's nothing dramatic, but it was just like the one move where you're just like, okay, you're one point away from winning this and you're not brave enough to go after it. And you're like, oh my God, I could have done something on that point. But coulda, shoulda, woulda is...

It's not how it goes in tennis, but that's the one I'm just like, oh, maybe I could have had that slam. But it's okay. On to the next. Could have had all four. Yeah. Jenny, do you have one? I haven't played in two years. I can't remember. Hey. I don't know. What about like the AO final? When you play the AO final against Naomi? No, there's not like one. It wasn't like it was...

like three sets or like that close in the game scores. Maybe in like my semifinal match against Naomi at US Open, like the tiebreaker in the first set. I would love to replay because, like, I played such a shitty tiebreak. It was so bad. Isn't it that we've all been there? When you, like, tiebreak. And then you win the second set.

And you're like, why didn't I play like that in the tiebreak? Tiebreaks are so tough. Yeah, but it was really shitty. Like, I don't remember what the score was, but it... It's not like I was like it was like seven five or like five all. And it was like I had a backhand. Yeah. Sitter on top of the net that I missed. Just overall the breaker. Yeah. It was just the breaker was bad. But yeah. OK. Next question.

Fan Question: Choosing Doubles Partners

From Praveena Carrera. Sorry if I butchered that. How do tennis players partner up for doubles slash practice sessions? Des, is there a messaging app where you say you are looking to partner up? Well, it's not like Hinge, but honestly, that's not a bad way to do it. How we partner up for doubles. Well. Sorry. Jess is ordering room service. We'll be right back. No, we're not cutting that. We're leaving that. Jess got towel. DoorDash.

I was going to say, we should leave. She's okay. Yeah. Thank you. Okay. Okay. Bye. What'd you get, Jess? She left her mics on. Sorry. What'd you get us? Did it have my privacy thing on and it was turned down? They were coming for water. Chocolates? Any chocolates? They did give me cookies earlier. Oh, wow. Nice.

Sorry. 100% keep. Okay. What was the question again? Sorry. How do you partner up for doubles? Yeah. How do you partner up for doubles? If you wanted to play doubles with me, how would you? Okay, bad news. So basically, to get into a tournament, you... You good, Jenny? Stop fighting. Putting a muzzle on it. I don't know why she's getting so heated. I'm not getting heated. Oh. And you're just like. Okay. Anyways, basically to pair up for.

doubles you try and find a partner that you can get into with in a tournament and usually want to play with someone you like because then that makes it more enjoyable but some girls you got to do what you got to do and just get in with whoever um

to make the advanced cut list. And then for practice, you kind of just message each other and just say, hey, you want to practice? You've also got a non-hit list, I guess, or a non... a no hit list is that what you call it blacklisted for practices were you yeah like were you like are like no i'm not

I'm never again practicing with this person. Everyone's got a list. Everyone's got a list. Who you'd rather practice with and who you kind of don't want to practice with. Yeah. But there's definitely people who you avoid with doubles in practice. Like if you can't get a rhythm off. you know return or you're just not getting you know they're just so erratic and you don't play with them no no not all i don't really like playing with lefties that much though unless i have to play left

That's true. Yeah. That's when we get used and abused when you guys need it. Yeah. I play a lefty and I don't know like Des can be anywhere. I have no idea where she is. And I'm just like, hey, Des, are you like in Doha? Do you want to like work me out tomorrow?

And I'm like, sure, okay, I'll be there. Even if you just pop over for some search, that would be amazing. I have gotten that multiple times, or even at United Cup. You're like, hey, we're playing a lefty, Des, you're in. And I'm like, okay. Let me just hit five serves to you. Well, one year at a tournament, I put...

Brady plus looking and no one signed with me. So they put me with a hitting partner. So that's usually how you like book a warm up. Like if you don't have like, let's say, you know, I wanted to warm up with Jess, we would communicate, but. you know if you don't have someone playing at the same time that you know like usually you would just call and say hey like

Can you put me down at 9 a.m. Brady plus looking? And then maybe another player will sign with you. And if no one signs, usually they'll have hitting partners on site to warm you up. So I did that, and I was playing a righty. time in my life they gave me a lefties hitting partner and i was like okay this is strange but you know i'm not like one to like you know complain so um

I ended up warming up with the lefty-hitting partner, and then the next day they gave me someone who was ambidextrous. Oh. Variety what? He served lefty and hit righty. Oh, I've played people like that. Yeah. Hitting partners, though, not like a player. No, I've played a match against a girl who served lefty and then played righty. Who? Oh, wow. I don't even remember her name, but it was at the...

Tulsa Challenger. No, Tulsa. It was at the Tulsa ITF. Oh, wow. Way back when. Wow, that tournament would get lit. Yeah. Oh, I think everyone always talks about like how I feel like that's one of the most common questions. How how do you guys play doubles together? I'm like, we just text each other and we say, hey, I want to.

it's like yes or no and then you just we have like a player site that we have to sign up for or you can sign in on site with your singles ranking but yeah it's pretty straightforward dm instagram dm what's up you just you start some people read it don't respond or say they're not playing doubles and then yeah and sometimes like if you're trying to Yeah, it's what the cut is. And you're trying to just get in where you can. And also there's if you're.

already inside well inside the cut you want to try and pair up with someone if you're trying to make the WTA finals which is in Riyadh in the end of the year so if you play with one partner the whole year or for a swing of events and you do really well you want to try and try and make the cut which is top eight get into the end of the year uh race and that's also another reason why how people pair up you may not like them or you know you may just gel but

it's another way where you can get into to play with the same person every time to play with the same person yeah and then same thing with practice like if we say we've got two doubles players and One of the doubles teams has a singles player playing in the event. They obviously can't practice that day. They'll put, we'll put looking or.

plus hitting partner and whoever else wants to sign in that is also in the same boat they can sign in so it kind of just depends on who you're practicing with and I guess who's ready that day to play to practice wow it does really went like in depth yeah sorry well you know i gotta give the people what they want you went into the whole of the saudi end of the year i was like jesus

Yeah, WTA finals, baby. Oh, God. Well, I mean, that's another backstory of how people pair up. I mean, sometimes there's a... That is true. Depends, yeah. Yeah. Or if people want to play with someone because they want to get seated at an event. So yeah, you get a buy if you do. Can go all day. Last question. All right.

Fan Question: Choosing Serve Balls

okay from meteor meteorbriologist24 what makes you decide which balls to choose while you are serving Sorry, can you repeat that? Yeah, who is that from? It's from BriBri. why do you choose the balls that you choose? Well, sometimes I get really superstitious. And let's say like, I want to, I played a really good point and I want that ball. Like I want that ball back. So.

Like I'll wait and like keep saying, no, no, that's not the ball until like the ball kid like rolls the ball to the person that I want it from. And then I get that ball back and I'm playing with that ball until I lose the point or. usually like when I'm serving like I'll look for like the newest ball so that way yeah usually like newer balls like

Or faster and more livelier. So when you're surfing. Wow. The newer ones are the better ones, huh? So how many balls do you like? Like, do you like two? Do you think? three, maybe like one at a time, two balls. I always take two. I like that. And you really just see, you really see like which one's the best one, right? You really just like, you know, one maybe looks more fresh than the other.

Not as old, you know. I was going to say silly. Jenny's shade of red. Two fresh new balls. Some are a little like. fuzzier used and fluffy fluffy I don't like hairy I don't like when they get like real fluffy too big yeah do you like too big oh when they're more bald Guys. End episode. It's over. See ya. Jenny, how you doing? Are you flushed? Are you sweating? Does anyone else want to talk about what bowls they choose? I choose the newest and the freshest. No, but I do like newer bowls.

she's like i'm gonna be normal now next question jenny i think that was jenny's question i think she nailed that one that is a common question though people do ask me that yeah like why do you have like why do you always like throw away like one like what makes it whatever i always just look for the newer the newer ones I also just trying to, it's also just to like, not stall, but kind of just like get myself into a thought and just hold them and look at them. And I'm just like, okay, these two.

This is just a segment right here. Wow. Okay. Oh, my God. Well, you just made one. Yeah, it was fun. Jenny and Des are sassy today.
