The first thing that's changed, one of the things that's changed, is the student-centered approach to teaching. In the old days, the student was just sitting there on the piano stool and the teacher told them what to do and there was never any real engagement with the student and certainly very little respect for the student. I think that's the, you know, the the student is the equal. The student should be a part of the process, the creative process.
I think the teacher guides the student toward something that's authentic to them, that's expressing something from within them, not pasted on, copied and pasted from a teacher. We are thrilled to invite you to our upcoming episode featuring Graham Fitch, a pianist, educator, writer, and one of the leading figures in piano pedagogy. With his deep research into neuroscience and piano technique, Graham has revolutionized the way pianists practice, learn,
and perform. He shares insights into performance prep, feedback and reflection in piano training, and the evolving role of piano pedagogy in today's world. He also offers an exclusive glimpse into his groundbreaking online academy, Practicing the Piano, Transforming the Way Pianists Learn, Practice, and Refine Their Craft. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to piano technique. You only have to look at the great pianists who are playing to see a mastery
of the piano can come from any number of different national schools of playing. So, you know, tension can be physical and it manifests itself physically by tightened muscles or, you know, locked positions kind of thing. But often it comes from the from the mind. The mind is fearful. Whether you are a professional pianist, student, or teacher, or music lover, this episode is packed with practical, science-backed insights that will shape the way you think about piano learning.
