Episode description

Should we give up or keep on chasing freedom? We sit down with Adele Webb and discuss her latest book, Chasing Freedom: The Philippines' long journey towards Democratic Ambivalence She argues that Philippines has what she calls Democratic Ambivalence or holding contradictory views about democracy. We discuss what democratic ambivalence means for Philippine politics, where it came from, and how we can move forward from knowing about this ambivalence. We also discuss the middle class, and re-evaluate the concept and re-assess their role in democratization.
