This is the OTP presented by far Bureau Health Plans, where members are the plan. Far Bureau Health Plans makes it easy for Tennessee AND's to get health coverage they need for less than they expect. Get a quote at FBHP dot com with Amy Wells. I'm Mike Keith in Booth seven at Nissan Stadium. We're home, home, sweet home. It does feel nice to be here in the booth knowing that there is Titans football on the horizon. Everything

feels right in the world right now. Mike and we are here as part of the Kickoff Luncheon, the inaugural Kickoff Luncheon that benefits the Titans Foundation. Raised a lot of money for the Titans Foundation earlier today. Thanks to our friends at Pinnacle who underwrote the event, and we're the presenting sponsors, so we're certainly appreciate them. And thanks to the man who totally stole the show, Dave McInnis from Titan's Radio. I did not steal the show by Keith.

You were the MC and you're always the star of the show. But that was a really nice event. No you did. I mean so, Mike rabels On and we're going to hear that, and John Robinson's on and we're going to hear that. And we had Kevin Byard on and Burke Nyhill, the President was on. But the man who stole the show as he did the telestrator showing Bud Dupree, Josh Reynolds, Julio Jones, and Denico Autry Amy. People were captivated. People were so locked in and Mike,

you do a great job of hosting an event. But when Coach Mack was talking, nobody was on their phone, different level, nobody was doing everything. They were all just totally focused in on what he was showing them, which says to me that people love football here in Middle Tennessee and they want to learn more about it. Learning some of those intricacies that the average person never gets to experience that is so valuable. So it was so awesome, Mac that you were able to do that. Well, it

was It's fun. It is fun for me, and you know that we all, all of us, we do this a lot, you know, when we're when we're doing events and speak to people because you're right in what you say. They want to know, they'd like to know the details, they'd like to know something they can take back so that when they're watching a ball game, they can say, hey, you know what coach Mike and Mike Keith and Amy

Wills told me this. This is what they are doing, something as simple as the personnel groups that we all do, you know, in the places we go. I mean, it just makes watching the game more fun and more interesting. And I had a blast today, I really did. That was very cool, nice set up that you know, that screen, that telestrator screen was really the first class. I loved it. I mean that was very, very cool. I would like

to do it again. I think we ought to take that on the road somewhere and we could do a whole game and it'd be fun. All right. So anybody who's listening and wants to get Coach Mac a birthday present, he would like a telestrat. You'd like a telestrator? Yes? Why not? I'd also need all those uh technical people there to run it. Well that group did they fantastic job? Yes, yes they did. Steve was Zensky, who was your cowboy Gods.

Steve had to run the tape back and forth, and that was one of the great moments of the entire thing, is that Coach got to call out Steve in front of the audience. You actually complimented Steve more than you harassed him. Well, because he was good. I mean Steve, he was good. I mean if he did if he did not do if he did not do something right, well then then then I was gonna. I was I was gonna. I was gonna let him know. But and I told him that before it started. You went over there.

You went over there and introduced him to me, and I told him, I said, Steve, look, I'm talking football right now. So if you don't do this right, I'm gonna call you out. And if you don't believe me, ask Amy Wills because she's operated a cowboy from me before. And uh, it's just a coach in me, and I just want it right when I'm doing it. He was fantastic and speaking of calling people out, Mike Vrabel was on via zoom as he recovers from COVID nineteen at home.

He wanted to be part of this. He was really a driving force behind making the kickoff luncheon happened. They went to him and said, what do you think. He said, this is a great idea, and so he got his coordinators involved. He had ideas about different things, and he was scheduled to be in person and it was going to be a big wing thing with him, and then obviously the news on Sunday changed all of that. But we said, hey, would you feel up to being on

by Zoom? He said yes, And I thought his segment was great and it looks like he feels a lot better. Right, Well, I don't know, because he was like very nice to you at the beginning of the program, which made me think that maybe he's sicker than we all think, but may changed. Yeah, but then he changed. By the end of it, he was back to his old way. So yes, I think Mike Vrabel is feeling pretty okay. Hey, all right, so let's take a listen to that from the Titans

inaugural kickoff Luncheon presented by Pinnacle. Here's our ch at with Mike Vrabe. If you have your run of show, you see Mike Vrabel at one oh five with chalk talk. Well, you know there's not gonna be a chalk talk with Mike Vrabel because Mike, unfortunately was COVID positive over the weekend, but he wanted to be part of this event, so through technology, please welcome the head coach of your Tennessee Titans, Mike Vrabel, who's joining us coach. I get. First question, obviously,

is how you feel it? Feeling great? Mike. I want to thank everybody for coming out and supporting us. We love the fans, we love the support, we love the energy. I love how you ran up on that stage today. We playing a little run up music. Mike. You got a little juice, little pep in your step. Coaches football season,

we gotta be ready, right you know? I did anybody tell you that we played some of your highlights to the team the other day after Tampa because I lived until him and I'm like, man, this guy, we are so blessed to have you to juice the energy. Molden sack that call. So we just instead of showing them my silly cut ups to the team, I just showed the highlight videos that had had your voice in it, and I think they liked it better than what I can show them. Wow. Thank you. Well, I'm just gonna

leave now, good night, everybody. I'm done. Um gotta ask you work wise, what have you been able to do over the last couple of days and what do you hope to be able to do over the next couple of days. Well, we're kind of set up like we were before. You know, everybody, you know, they were able to bring me my stuff, computers, iPad, screens, you know, great capability to connect into our server, to have access to our film and practice as soon as it's done.

Film from around the league. So trying to stay in communication the football team. Have had you know, zoom meetings with them in the morning and then you know, been able to check in on them as they go off into their meetings. But I'd prepare the zoom meeting the same way I would any other meeting to try to get our message across or my message across to them

for that particular day. Things that we have to work on from practice from the previous day, the things we did well, the things we did bad, and the things that are going to get as beat that we have to eliminate. Usually is the emphasis of my meetings and that that's continued, so you know, without me just running around the halls, I would say everything's been pretty much similar, all right, So you've been at this for a month now. The things that have pleased you the most about the

Tennessee Titans so far in twenty twenty one camp. Well, I'm really appreciative of, you know, the way that we've played these first two games. You know, I felt like, no matter who's been in there, whether they're new, whether they're young, that they've tried to approach these games and play them in a style, in a manner in which

we feel like is to our advantage. And I think we've We've taken care of the football, We've been efficient throwing the football, we've been able to run the football, we've stopped the run, we really played complementary football, We've gotten turnovers on defense, and I felt like there's an energy in playing games, and sometimes that's not always the

case when you're talking about preseason games. And so when I watch our games or I hear people say, hey, watch the preseason game, and look like guys were flying around having fun and playing with energy and passion, you know that that's what we're trying to preach and coach and with no met with with with whoever is in there. Several of the top Titans have gotten back to practice

this week. Was that really by design? With the opener eighteen days away against Arizona well as we You know, everybody has a different plan and they work their way through it as we get back to return to to play or individual or jog through, and you know, it was good to have some of those guys that weren't weren't out there or hadn't been out there in previous practices. UM certainly makes looking at the film a little better.

I thought it made COVID go away when I saw Derek out there and Julio and aj out there and in the offense together. I think COVID COVID went bye bye after that. So Arizona is a team that we have to joke. Mike, you're allowed to chuckle a little bit. Joke. I love that. Okay, See he's on zoom and he's still telling me what to do. It's great. Um. Arizona is a team we have played since twenty seventeen. They're

an unfamiliar opponent. So I just wonder, is it better for you, the coaching staff, and the players that you have extra time to prepare hair for a talented yet

unfamiliar opponent in week one? Well, I mean, I think at the end of the day, we have to focus on a lot of things that we believe are still our foundation what we believe in for you know, training camp is so critical for the conditioning and the callous for the season to develop technique and fundamentals, and you know, I think we'll have plenty of time to prepare for them.

You don't want to overanalyze things. You want to make sure that you know the team is where it needs to be fundamentally and a conditioning standpoint to hopefully prepare yourself for those battles of the regular season. But you know, they are talented, just like a lot of teams in the National Football League, we aren't very familiar with them. The quarterback poses just a lot of problems just from an athletic standpoint and an ability to to extend plays well.

Obviously our familiarity with DeAndre Hopkins and what he's able to do offensively, they do have a lot of great weapons Defensively, They're they're gonna be long, they're gonna blitz, they're gonna pressure. You know, they got big inside linebackers that are young, obviously edge guys, you know, and then they're gonna they're gonna bring a lot of different pressures. Chicago's the final preseason game Saturday night here at Nissan Stadium.

The Bears have announced that they'll start Justin Fields at quarterback, who was their number one pick and is their quarterback of the future. Their offensive line is going to play, but otherwise they're gonna play backups. So have you decided yet how much your number ones are gonna play Saturday night here against the Bears. No, I haven't made that decision, you know, And whatever Matt does, you know that that's

what he's doing with his football team. We'll try to focus on, you know, what we think is best for

our team. Hopefully, you know, we can get everybody that's healthy and available, you know, out there for the football game that we can start tom you know, continue to build and create that continuity that's so critical, and if it works out that way, great, and if it doesn't, then we'll continue to put the guys in there that that are the next guys in And you've seen that scene, us do that over and over and guys have responded and taken advantage of those opportunities. How will Mike Vrabel

handle Saturday nights preseason game? Probably like a fan, I guess, unless I get cleared, which you know, it's still always a possibility that that I could have two negative tests in a forty eight hour period. If that doesn't happen, you know, I'll be uh. I'll probably put you and Coach mac on and put the TV on mute and listen to you guys, no pressure, Well, coach listen. Making this effort, you were a driving force behind getting the

lunch and started a new tradition for Titans fans. We thank you for making the effort, and certainly you've been the subject of a tremendous amount of thoughts and prayers by a lot of great Titans fans all over the Mid South. Thank you so much for taking time with us, Mike, I appreciate it. Again. I want to thank everybody for coming out. I know how much money we raised for

the Titans Charitable Foundation. That's what it's all about. It. We are blessed and lucky to get to do what we do, where we get to do it and with the people that we get to do it with. There's so many more people that are less fortunate than us, so we're very conscious. So that that was reiterated to the football team again today. Just in recognizing you folks for your contributions to be there to help our charitable foundation.

So again, thank you and to everybody there, have a great day and we'll see you guys out there on Saturday night. Mike Rabel everybody. And he gave me permission to laugh. That was good. Um, it's so great. Oh now you're still here. And then we couldn't turn his microphone off, which is the best part of the whole. So I'm going on to something else and he's still talking. Great. He starts answering me like from above. It's it's like a nightmare. It was that nightmare. I agree with Amy,

that was That was a high point moment for me. Well, Coach Max face still Coach Max's favorite part of the week of the Friday production meet. Oh yes, yours. I'm gonna get it because so we go in with the coach and we sit down and we record the stuff for the pregame interview a little behind the curtain. It's not live surprised. Uh, that's what you get for being one of the OT people. Yeah, now you know if

you didn't suspect it. Um. But so we also talk about some different things and he is really great to us coach with what the insight he gives and the helpfulness that he gives us. It's it really is fantastic to sit down and talk ball with him. But what you know if you walk in that room is when you start asking questions to get what you'd like to get or what you need, you're gonna get it. And that ends up being me right as it should be

every time. Now that's what I can't wait. I mean, I go in there and I can see the look on Rabel's face. And Mike Keith is a consummate professional, but he knows it's coming. It's coming. He knows it's coming. And so when we're sitting there and then all of a sudden he starts asking a question. I go here, here it comes. We really could make cuts out of it. I mean, if it was completely uncensored, whatever we were on it, we were on HBO. We can do it. Because it is it is, it is, it is something.

I mean, we ever do hard knocks, ye, that should be part of her. It'd be a huge part of it. And I've been on hard knocks and it would be a great part of it. Because, as I say, I for the five years that I've done this and have walked in that room with you, and then especially with him, with him as the head coach. I absolutely love it. I can't wait for the production meetings. I can't wait. Every time I go out to the field on Friday, my first question is always to coach Mac and it's always, so,

how is the meeting? And he always goes, oh, it's perfect. And that means that Mike's going to emerge at some point with his head hanging. What it's like during the breaks on the TV show? Yeah, what kind of question was that? It's great? I live for these moments. It's so funny. People think, you know, people wonder They said, do you you know, do the two of you get along? And I mean I think we do. Oh, you definitely, But I think but he's I mean, he's a tough one. Now, Mike.

Let me tell you something, though I've been a head coach and I've had people in there, if if he didn't like you, it would be worse. No, is that it would be completely bland and vanilla with so he really he likes you because I mean, you're just one of the dudes. But he loves Oh, my goodnesses, he has some nice ones and and Vrabel. I can imagine Vrabel as a player. I mean, I bet he was slinging it back and forth from the time he came on the field until the time after they beat you,

when he was walking on I love the dude. I love Mike Vrabel, and I love his interaction with Mike Keith production meetings. He's pretty good coach too. The general manager can be the same way. He can be hardcore and Amy Wells actually got to experience some of that as we took Twitter questions from the audience. Can't really walk around with a microphone, slips a paper, It's kind of not not a cool time pretty that. So we did the Twitter questions which we mentioned on the last

OTP that we were going to do. So Amy got the five best ones. She got to ask the questions. And here's Amy with John Robinson from the Kickoff Luncheon presented by Pinnacle and Amy gets hit a couple of times. Your two Okay. The tough part of Amy's job has been picking out through hashtag Titans kick Off, the five best questions for Titans general manager John Robinson. Do we have John on the line, Let's bring him in John Robinson.

Everybody thanks for joining us. Sir Mike Keith, can you hear me and we can hear you, Amy Wells, can hear you too? Say hello to her up standing? Hey, Amy, how are you hey? I just wanted to take a quick minute and say thank you to everyone that is there.

Our intent was to be there with you in person, shaking hands and taking pictures, but out of an abundance of caution, giving Coach Rabel situation trying to keep you guys safe and the football team safe, we thought this was the best mechanism that to visit with you guys. We'll be there with your lives soon. Thank you for coming today, Thank you for what you've done for our

football team, our organization, the foundation. And to echo what Coach Rabel said yesterday about the folks over in Waverley, the announcement we made today to try to help provide some relief to that community over there. That's a strong community filled with a lot of proud Tennesseeans. I grew up about two hours west of there, and it's about an hour from here, so I know that they're going to keep fighting to get back to some degree of normalcy.

But thank everyone in attendance, and for what you've done to come to this luncheon today. All right, John, are you ready for five questions? Far away? All right? Amy, Welles take it. This is so great. Okay, here's the first one from hashtag Titans kickoff. How have for Shaun Evans and Jayon Brown looked in camp so far? Oh? They looked like two linebackers, Amy, they looked like two linebackers.

Anything else? Now, you know, I think the one thing that though, it's it's great to have that that pair back together. Um, you know, stylistically they're they're different. Um. You know, Rashawn is an aggressive downhill run stuffing thumper. Um. He had a play yesterday where he met the fullback in the hole and it was to say, it was a pretty loud collision. And jay On has kind of prided himself more on, you know, his coverage skills, his range of speed. UM. But to both of their credit,

they knew that coming into the season. Rashaan has been better in coverage. UM, he's really focused his attention on that, and jay On with his run fit. So I'm proud of the work that those guys have put in, uh in the offseason. Looking forward to them putting the opposing offensive ball carry on the ground. Allot this fall? All right, here's another one from hashtag Titan's kickoff. This one's about

the secondary. Where has a Moni Hooker improved the most and what does he give us at safety that maybe this team didn't have in twenty twenty. Yeah, that's a great question, Amy. I think he's hook was a really versatile player coming out of Iowa and it kind of carved a roll out for himself on special teams and was really our third safety last year where he played, you know, mostly in subdefense in the back part of

the field. I think he's improved his play down around the line of scrimmage, which is where Kenny mccaro, who has been with us the last few years has played. He's been active, he's been more vocal. He's an extremely

smart player. He's helped a lot of these um, you know, younger dbs, whether it's you know it's Caleb or Molden or Chris Jackson, Breon Borders, those guys, just making sure that they're lined up where they need to be with the proper leverage, letting them know that he's back there as at safety to help them when they need it. Here's a question I really like it says. I keep hearing Mike and Coach Mack talk about Nick Westbrook Akeena at wide receiver. Is that just hype or is he

really good? It's probably a little bit of both. You know, Coach Mack has been known to belish or the last seam sitting there in the front row. But but you know, I think Nick, I mean, Nick was an undrafted guy who came in here last year out of Indiana, and he was on the practice squad, and you know, he kept getting better at practice. And that's what Coach Rabel and I preach all the time, is you're going to earn the opportunities that you have to go out there

on game day. Has presented itself by his special teams really as a gunner, as a kickoff cover guy, as a front wall blocker on a kickoff return. He maximized his opportunities. He kept working offensively, you know, honing his route craft and being more detailed because he's a bigger, longer receiver and sometimes it's harder for those guys stature wise to maybe get in and out of some of

those breaks when they're running those routes. But he's done an outstanding job this offseason of getting himself and honing those skills, and he's been a trusted target for Tanney Hill and I'm excited to watch him play. You're the general manager, so this seems like a good question for you. What is the possibility of keeping three quarterbacks and the Titans active roster? Yeah, Amy, that's I am the GM. You are correct, that's what you tell me. Um, But

you know it's a coach. Fraybell and I we you know, we were talking about it last night or we were texting back and forth about it last night. UM, you know, we've got some tough decisions, uh, this coming weekend after this game, is we try to trim this roster down to fifty three. Um. You know, certainly we all know what Tanny Hill is and what he's what he's capable

of doing being an outstanding player for us. But it's been a battle between between Logan and Matt and UM, you know what, at the end of the day, we'll do what's what's best for the team. At the end of the day, we want to try to have the right fifty three guys on the football team and if that means keeping you know, three ques on the roster to try to help us win. Then that's what we'll do,

all right. For our final question, now that we've made it abundantly clear what your role with your organization is, this question is what is the part of being the Titans general manager that you enjoy the most? That is a great question. I think the one thing that UM, I joke about it, I say, I generally manage a lot of stuff, um most of the time. But I'm extremely blessed. I'm I'm fortunate, uh that Amy took a chance on me back in in twenty sixteen and brought

me back to the state that that I love. Um. It's it's I love uh coming in every day. It's not work to me because I love what I do. I love being around our scouts, our coaches, our players, UM, our fans. On game day, my job is to put a product on the field with the football team, UM that our fans can be proud of that we can entertain our fans UM and and win football games. And at the end of the day, it's about winning football games. UM. There's really Uh. The probably the thing I enjoy the

least is releasing players. That that's those are hard conversations to have because these guys worked so hard and the league only let's us keep so many guys. Um and and those are those are tough decisions, tough conversations that I have to have. Um, But that's what I signed up for. But I love every day I come in here. Well done, John Robinson, thanks so much for taking time with us. You got it? Thanks like he got soon righting up? You got ding? How did it feel? All? Right? Now?

What did we all learn? John Robinson is the general many Titans. If you walk away with nothing else, let's all walk away with But you're just that's the great part is you're just reading the question, I'm not here to hurt anybody, and you get and you get ding. Yeah. And I knew my number would be called though, because he wasn't really interacting with you, and you being around gets everybody all riled up. So I knew I was probably going to take the hits. I knew it was well.

It was good. It was great. His answers good questions, and his answers were good, and the crowd was thrilled to have a chance to see him as well. Kevin Bayer did a great job, Todd Downing, the offensive coordinator, Shane Bowen, the defensive coordinator. We mentioned Burke Nyhill. It was just it's a good show. So thank you to everybody for being part of the inaugural Titans kickoff lunch. Absolutely all right, So what do you expect that a

preseason game? Number three, Coach mat gonna be very interesting with you know, with the developments of what's going on. The thing I expect, I do expect to see. I expect to see some more of our frontline players maybe play a little bit, just a tad, you know, any of you from Texas nor tad is not a lot, you know, but I expect to see, you know, a

little bit of that. But the thing that I think that they still want to carry over, there's still some decisions to be made on this football team because some of these down the line players, Mike and Amy and for our listeners, they've put themselves in consideration just because of the way they've been playing. So I expect to see those guys get one more chance, you know, the down the line guys, get one more chance to show

what they can do. I was going through the drive through the other day at a non sponsored business so I'm not going to mention where and somebody said, hey, what about Mason Kinsey. Yeah, so it's like, yeah, I mean, people are people are starting to get you know who some of these down the line guys are that you mentioned. And you know McKay sergeant is, I tell you he's got something interesting going on right now? Well he doesn't.

I mean, you just heard from John Robinson. You know, we talked about Westbrook, Akina, the thing that he's done. McKay sargeant is. You know before after the Tampa thing, Before the Tampa game, you asked me what position I was looking at and I said the running back? Did I said, because one and two are not going to play, So two, three, and four move up to one, two and three and so let's see what they can do.

McKay sargeant is taking full advantage of this, of this opportunity he has coming in here as a free agent from IOWA and Mason Kinsey all that kid does is make plays. You know what's really interesting is when you talk to the head coach and the general manager about McKay sergeant, they both start smiling. They both have something good to say right off the bat, he hits him in the heart as a football player because of how

he goes at it. And he hits him in the heart too, the way he sees the holes he runs to daylight. I don't know if he's on this football team or not, but I think he's got a future. I'm gonna tell you what else helps him in the heart. The fact that after he scored that touchdown on that role boot, he went right out and lined up on the kickoff team and ran down hard and ran down hard. That's what hits you in the heart as a coach because you know that's the way he's gonna have to

make it. It's great to see him out there from the line of scrimmage, but when that's gonna be his role and he's more than willing to do it, that's

why they smile. The way that snaps are split up in this last preseason game is going to be really interesting because a lot of times in the fourth preseason game, you see a lot of guys that are getting a lot of time on the field just because they need some tape and they're trying to keep everybody healthy, and so the guys that are getting more time on the

field doesn't necessarily mean they're going to make the ball club. Now, there are some real spots where guys have places that they can earn their keep, I guess, And so it's going to be really interesting to see if they keep some guys in that really have a shot at playing for a little bit longer and we see kind of a real ball game. Yeah, I think you're absolutely right. Can we tell a couple of Floyd Reese stories before

we go absolutely listening? Do you mind? No? I want to tell one from nineteen ninety eight because it was one of my first year with the team. Plays Chicago Bears, October twenty fifth, nineteen ninety eight at Vanderbilt Stadium. Jeff Jager Remember Jeff Jager the kicker? Yep, he makes a field goal with just over a minute ago. The Bears take a twenty three twenty lead. The Oilers get the ball back and they drive to the forty into They

drive into Chicago territory. Steve McNair gets sacked on first down. Oilers don't have a time. On second down, he has to spike the ball. It's third and sixteen. He completes a pass to Willie Davis okay for thirteen yards to make it fourth and three at the thirty one yard line of Chicago. So the Oilers are in field goal range. Now a long time Oiler fans will remember this. They can't find Al del Greco, the kicker, like they don't

know where he is. They don't know where he is, and so Craig Hendrick has to run out onto the field. Dave Craig came out to hold. The Oilers had too many men on the field or weren't said it was going to be a penalty anyway, and the kit got blocked. It was a forty nine yarder which del Greco could have made. Now here's the behind the scene of this story. It was not Al del Greco's fault an assistant coach.

When Willie Davis caught the thirteen yard pass, an assistant coach told him it was a first down, so he went back to the net to keep warming up, thinking there were there was a fresh set of downs. So Al took the fall for this, I mean, And the next week he beat the Steelers with a field goal, and so all was forgiven at that point, but he had had an awful week, which again was not his fault because he had been told, hey, you've got a first down, you have time. Wow. So it's a big controversy. Well,

after the game, I'm doing the postgame interviews. It's a Vanderbilt stadium. I'm in a side room. Greg Williams is standing there with me. Now you think the story is gonna be about Greg Williams, right, because Greg Williams is a complete hothead about a lot of things. So we're standing there waiting to go on. There's a screen door of some sort in the Vanderbilt locker room. I can't really understand why it was there. Okay, when Floyd Reese came through, it was not there anymore. He was so

angry about how the Oilers lost to the Bears. He took that screen door. Oh and I mean slammed it to where it came off its hinge. I mean it went flying everywhere. And I'm standing there with Greg Gregs. Yeah, he's mad, and you know it hit me At that point I said, this is serious, This is serious. This NFL is serious business right here. This was not anything

like I'd ever seen in college anywhere. But the general manager storming through, I mean he was fierce and this was not necessarily going to be a playoff team or a super Bowl team. It was an October game, but man, it showed how much Floyd Reese wanted to win well. And that's a great story. I've been around you a lot, I've never heard that story. That's an outstanding story. But you know what that that does. That just tells you

and anybody that knew Floyd Reese. I knew him since nineteen eighty six when he was a linebacker coach, you know, still with the Oilers. He was a linebacker coach. Then he was in NFL all the way through. He was an NFL guy. He was an NFL guy through and through, and it was and the oiler slash Titans were very

very important. I remember when Jeff Fisher brought me in here to be hired and Florida as a general manager, and I met with Floyd for about an hour, and you know, he was talking because I'd been coaching the league while and we knew each other, but you could just tell just the passion that he had for this team. And at that time he had put together a super Bowl team. He had and he was trying to hold that super Bowl team together and he knew that sooner or later he was going to have to pay the

price for holding that Super Bowl team together. And he's very honest with me telling me about that as we were going through it. But I love Floyd Reese for the reason of you knew exactly where he stood with him at all times. And he was a football guy. And he was a funny guy too. He was he had a great sense of humor. So I've told several stories about how he helped us with off the field things like with the caravan, and he had gotten to the point that he trusted me and that he was

very similar. We would bring him the list of guys that we were going to have for the caravan, and he would he would approve it. He would say, yes, that's a good one. That's a good one. Hey, what about this guy? Very helpful. Jeff Fisher was the same way, very helpful. Well, we're a week from going out on the caravan and he sees the list of players is published in the paper. The last guy he calls me about, he goes, uh bo, he called everybody bo bo bo.

He goes, pretty good chance he's not gonna be with us. So he said you might want to make another plan. Oh no, he's a pretty good chance. Well he's clueing me in big help. So part of my job is to decorate, is to get the rap done for the vehicle we were going to take out. Right, we would always put the players who were going to be on the caravan on the side of the vehicle on this rap.

So I'm thinking about mister last Day, and I said, Okay, I can't put him on there, because if he's not with the team, we're gonna get made fun of at every I mean, it's a it's a conundrum, right, what do you do? So I just put a generic shot of various players as the last sort of they're not in any sort of order, so you can't tell the days. But this gentleman's picture is not on the RV. And so we get to the last day and a staffer of ours points out to this player, you're the only

guy not on the side of the RVY. Don't They don't end up cutting him, They end up So this person just for whatever reason, points this out. Now, remember nobody on our staff, nobody knows why he's not on the side of the RV. Because the general manager had told me this. I didn't share this with anybody, right, I just told you know, I just said, this is what we need to do as far as the rap goes.

So this player, who is very large, is very angry and is just standing there outside of an o' Charlie's in a city that I won't name, is screaming in my face. Seriously, you don't respect what I do. You're you're a non professional yourself. I mean, and and this man. I mean, you know, I'm a diminutive size man. So this guy is obviously much larger. And I mean, it's a scary moment for the staff because the other particularly the younger people, because they've they've never seen anything like that.

I've been screamed at quite a bit, so you know, I know what it goes. So we get back caravan's over. I go in and tell Floyd Reese this story. He leans back in his chair and starts laughing. He goes, that's a tough one. Bow. No sympathy, no no way to hang in there, no thanks for keeping the confidence. No. So I've always wondered to this day, was he just setting me up? I don't think so. But those are two amazing. But that was so here. I mean, he

was laughing all he was just belly laughing. And that's what I just remember seeing him crack up because when he lost it, he laughed like it was nobody's biz. Absolutely, Yeah, we lost it. We lost a really good person way too soon. Yeah, and here in Nissan Stadium, when his name goes up later this year, that will be as deserving as anybody whose name has ever gone up here. I think all of us that were involved with him

too will really feel it at that moment. Yep. And Jeff Fisher too, Yes, sir, I still say, and I said this on our flagship one O four five the Zone. Jeff Fisher and Floyd Reese were as important to this as we're. Steve mcnairri and Eddie George no doubt as a pairing that, no doubt they were. They were the four cornerstones of what it began.
