Episode description

In this edition, Director of Performance at UK Sport Peter Keen discusses Mission 2012, the traffic light system by which all Olympic sports are judged on their progress. 5 Live’s Jonathan Ledgard gives an update on the British Mens and Women’s Rowing squads for the World Cup which were announced this week and are traditionally a strong indicator of who will be in which boats come London 2012. Scottish cyclist David Millar, who has a lifetime Olympic ban after admitting doping, speaks candidly about the prospect of competing at this summer’s Olympics in advance of the forthcoming ruling on lifetime bans by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. We also find out about the atmosphere in the build up to the 1948 ‘Austerity Games’, the last Olympics to be held in London, and as the finishing touches are being made to the new Olympic Stadium in Stratford, we find out about the Builder’s Olympics from an anonymous caller to the Danny Baker Show.
