Forty yard field goal attempt from the left hash out of the hold of quickly to give the Jets to lead. The placement is good, the kick is on the way, the tech has good well, it knocks it through and the Jets half the lead with thirty six seconds to go. Live from Callendra's Italian Village and called Will New Jersey eques Inside the Jets on ninety eight point seven ESPN.
Heure's Larry Hardisty and Eric Gallant. Good evening everybody, and we welcome you to Collandral's Italian Village here and called Wild New Jersey. It is another edition of Inside the Jets. Larry Harsted alongside my tag team part there, Eric Gallen and Eric a trip to Dallas. Jets were successful. Interesting first half, very interesting second half, unbelievable fourth quarter, gutty gritty, a lot of resolve. This team cantinues to show a
lot of character. That's four consecutive wins. They had to get hot after leaving Houston a five and five ball club, and they have done just that, and they find different ways to win each and every week. Dallas is a talented ball club and they gave the Jets all they could handle. But when it was winning time and there was plays to be made, the Jets made the plays down the stretch, and when Dallas tied it up, Larry Bailey hits the field goal uses the upright banks one
off the top right. I know a lot of people in the past would have thought, well, this might not be our night, but Ryan Fitzpatrick's got three time outs left two minutes to go. Any they get down the field, and each and every week we're seeing a different guy step up. This week, kenbral Tompkins, who would have thought Kenbrall Tompkins makes a huge catch down the stretch, sets Randy Bullock up for a field goal, and bull like filling in for Nick Folk ms the extra point in
that game. Mr field goal in that game, But when he was called on in the fourth quarter to kick this team to victory, he was good from forty yards out. Gutty victory and the Jets gotta feel good about themselves right now. Can't celebrate too much though. The New England Patriots are coming to town this week and the Jets will continue to stay in this win now, must win mode. Eric, we talked about Tompkins, and that really talks about the depth on this team, and we've talked about it all
season long. You talk about next man up, and that's the way it's been on this team. But every time there's an injury, the person that's come up has been able to do something in the spot. And it talks about the death and that goes back to Mike mccagnet and Todd Bowles and the scouting staff everybody looking to see what pieces you can fit under the salary cap to make sure you have depth on your team. Yeah, and when we were talking last week, hey Devin Smith's out,
Now who's gonna be the guy? And I'll tell you what, not only the Tompkins make that big catch down the stretch, but Quincy and noon On himself a ball game, four catches and all the one was huge for the Jets. The third down conversion that's set this team up late for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. And Ryan Fitzpatrick continues to really impress me because when those ends are closing in, he always finds a little bit of room, Larry where he steps up and he'll make a play.
Great pocket presents. How many times have we said this throughout the year, that fits really knows, he sees the field really well. He knows what the defense is trying to do, how they're attacking him, and he knows where their weaknesses are. And I really love what he's doing in the pocket, and he's showing a lot of character in this whole team is right now. Eric, Once again that we seem it seems like a recurring theme that we have over and over and over again each week.
It is the tag team wide receivers. Once again, it's Eric Decker, it's Brandon Marshall that's making big plays. And but before I get to them, I want to go back and follow up on what you were talking about with Ryan Fitzpatrick. And I'm very happy for him because you heard all the critics about him early. He can't throw long, he can't do this, he can't do that. Only does his win, Only does his make to play if if, if whatever the defense gives him he takes.
If he's got to run seven or eight yards, he runs seven or eight yards, you've got to get his nose busted up. It's okay. It's about keeping the chains going and keeping the line moving and getting points on the board. So when the Jets traded for him in March. People on the outside said he was thirty two at the time. This is he's entering his eleventh season with his sixth team. This is a journeyman quarterback who's gonna be the Jets back up and we'll see what happens.
Geno Smith's gonna take over this team and we'll see how the Jets do in their first year here. But not only as Fitzpatrick come in and started for this team, he has led them he is playing better football than he ever has at any point in his career. He nots this that the system he's working really well with Shane Gailey, Chris Ivory who was in the building tonight, Andorell Reeves who was also here. As this is a
tremendous crowd um. Ivory has given the Jets a great rush attack for the past couple of seasons along with But the Jets before fitz was here struggled in to find a consistent passing game. And you mentioned Marshall and Decker. Now you got those guys on the outside and Fitzpatrick is closing in at four thousand yards, four thousand yards, the Jets could have a four thousand yard passer Ivory, who's here tonight, is forty nine yards shy of his
first a thousand yard rushing season. Eric Decker is closing in a thousand. Marshals already passed that. So two thousand yard receivers, a thousand yard runner, and a four thousand yard passer. And Fitzpatrick. You know, I think people slept on him because they looked at what he did earlier in his career with teams who did not have the personnel that the Jets have offensively, and he's flourished with this system because you know, he loves playing with Jane Gaily. Uh,
and those guys work really well together. But this is the best personnel that's ever been around Ryan Fitzpatrick. And bottom line is he is a good quarterback. We talked about it last week. He's a good quarterback period, No ifs ands, buts whatever. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a guy. Right now, let's talk about defense, art, because the defense played well down in Dallas as well. More turnovers, more interceptions, pressure
on the quarterback. Uh, we're able in earlier parts of the game to get off the field on third down. They played very well while the offense was trying to find its way against a very small but quick Dallas defense. The Jet defense was holding it close so the offense would have a chance to come back and win it. Four interceptions in all reevs with his seven takeaway on the season. I can't wait to talk to him about that one because that was a crazy play. Matt Castle
didn't really have a plan on that one. Kind of threw that one up and Reeve made a great athletic play. Calvin Pryor continues to impress great reed in the end zone. He takes points off the board there. And Marcus Gilchris, an unheralded signing and free agencies, played really well for this team. Back there. He came up with an interception. Then he also set Marcus Williams up with the interception ladies,
he deflected the ball. But all in all, that secondary played really well and they took advantage of a team we knew going in who struggled to throw the football. Now, the Cowboys had success running at times what I thought. Damon Snaxt Harrison was tremendous Saturday night in the middle and also moving around. I saw him dropping coverage at times.
Damon Harrison is having a great season and the Jets had to play most of this ball game without their heart and soul, David Harris, you know, so that means and Henderson had to be relied on more to Mario Davis and others in and the Jets were able to push through. Everybody deals with injuries at this point of the season. But nice job defensively, because bottom line, it's a point scoring league and anytime you give up sixteen, got a good chance to win. That's enough for Fits
and company right now. The way this offense is going, it's it's an offense, and it's the confidence that you see in the players. Eric and we talked to them all the time, but there's a confidence that they have on the field. They don't think that they're out of any game. They're confident that whatever happens, they can bounce back from it. And I think that starts with Todd. Todd bows and you know, listen, he started out with a tough situation, you know, with with the General Smith
situation other things. But he you can see where his influences has govnized this team. And you can see that they are no nonsense team. They're confident team, their discipline team, and this is what's gotten them in in situations when you know other teams may have crumbled. This is what this kept them strong. And don't it even killed. And the funny thing the other night is the Jets struggle with penalties in the first half, but in the second
half they corrected that. They only had one penalty down the stretch and they did some things that were uncharacteristic. Third down had some problems, but again you gotta give the Cowboys some credit there. And the Jets red zone efficiency wasn't there where it has been in the past, but they overcame a couple of these things. And like
I said, mcfan went for over a hundred yards. But like you're mentioning, if that's a sign of a ball a good ball team who's coming together, is that Yes, not everything went their way Saturday night, but they still found a way. And now that sets up a huge ball game Sunday and might MetLife Stadium fan appreciation day for the Jets. The rally tails are gonna be out, the white rally towels are towels are gonna be out. Uh, the place is gonna be packed. We want everybody in
their seats early. Now it let's be clear about this. It's not a big game because it's the Patriots. It's a big game because it's the next game and the Jets have to win right now. Man, I expect MetLife Stadium to be jumping. It's gonna be a fun atmosphere. The Patriots have a ton to play for themselves, you know. They want that uh the f C to go through Gillette Stadium. They want to lock up that number one seed,
so they'll be ready to play. And we'll talk to Reeve about that mindset of the Patriots because he knows about it more than anybody. But uh, yeah, it's gonna be an interesting game because remember the Jets earlier on the season played toe to toe with the Patriots, lost the thirty to twenty three decision up there, and just a couple of things the Patriots did meant victory for them and a loss for the Jets. And then from there the Jets kind of lost their way a little bit.
But they have regained their footing. Let's see how much they've grown this weekend at a crazy met stating. Here's the word from selective insurance or solution for auto, home business and flood insurance visits selective dot com today and find an agent near you. Selective response is everything. Nutty eight point seven ESPN. Here's Larry Hardisty and Eric Allen, and welcome back to Collendo's Italian village. Here in Caldwell, New Jersey. Joined the New York Jets and the Institute of Color of Every Education for season three of the Jets. Cooking School was presented by Chase. For more information, visit I see dot E d U slash Jets. All right, there's a lot of flash up here right now. That must mean Revus has joined us. Larry Darrell, thanks so
much for being here tonight. Uh, we just heard the call, Bob was Shusen has the play by play of your fourth interception of the season, your seventh takeaway. That was one of the craziest plays I can remember. What was it from your vantage point? What did you see on that? And then ultimately you made a hell of an athletic
playing the interception. You went up and got that. Uh you know, uh from the looks of the play, Um, they tried to run the screen play on the opposite side of the field and and uh, Buster's crime actually overplayed to play. He read the route the screen play and he jumped it and uh it looked like Matt Castle got uh yeah, I got got a little flustered because the past wasn't there. And then it I think he threw me a you know, he threw me a freebe interception because I think he tried to throw it
out of bounce, but then I was come off. His hands were like it's coming to me. Uh. When he first when it first left his hands, I thought it was going over my head out of bounce. And then I looked and I was like, oh, it's it's right there. I can I can jump up and catch it. So it was one of those plays that it was a mistake on his part, but but a good athletic play
by you. Like I said, takeaway number seven on the year, and a fascinating one Larry too, because intentional grounding was actually called that, yes, yeah, because I mean there wasn't receiving the area obviously was you Uh yeah, it was it was. It was you hit you perfectly. What is what take us through your week of preparation? You know, everybody when they talk about you and what you do and your preparation it's it's almost legendary around the NFL.
This week you had uh, you know this Briant, who's a who's a phenomenal receiver. Whether he's coming off injury or not, you're still a very dangerous guy. What's that week of preparation like for you? Um, it's it's just all just uh you know, studying film man just uh you know, even when I'm at home, look over extra film uh and and try to just uh you know, study our opponents. That's that's basically it. Um my breakdown
formations now. Uh. Then I go into the right receiver ppacifically who I'm watching, Um, I'll break him down, um and then go from there. By the end of the week, I have them all figured out. Yeah, but it's more so when you look at the formations. It's more so looking at uh you know, what is the offensive coordinator
trying to accomplish. Who are the key guys you know on their team that they're trying to get the ball too, how many targets are trying to get And we go from there, and then you go to the matchup or whoever I have that week. If I'm matching up and I just break the receiver down as much as I can and Tennessee wise and trying to you know, figure him out as much as I can. So you did a lot of radio spots today, and I know you were asked about Josh Mormon, Josh Norman, and Oldell Back
numerous times. I'm not even gonna ask you about that. I'm gonna ask you about your matchup with Do Briant because what's interesting is I want to know your approach to talking on the field because with Dees it always seems like it's kind of a more emotional matchup. Are you more of a guy who says, hey, if you want to age, I'll talk a little bit more because that so I always seem to have it a little bit.
Uh yeah. Going back to uh nine eleven and two in two thousand eleven, Um, you know, we played against the Dallas Cowboys and uh, um it was a memorable night, not just because we you know, the Jets we played Dallas, uh, but just because of nine eleven and UM. You know it's saying storical, historical moment you know for New York and New Jersey as well. But you know it was
a very emotional game that night. Um, and everybody. You know, the stadium was lectrifying, and uh, we definitely wanted to get that win, you know, for New York and New Jersey and um, you know, we definitely did. But I knew coming into that game. That was my first matchup against as Brian. You know, you hear all these stories that UM, you know, he wears his heart on his sleeve. UM, he's a very uh, his attitude is very forward, He's very aggressive in his demeanor and UM, actually I wasn't
as signed on him yet. I was. I was covering Miles Austin during that week and then I had to switch on Das Bryant, uh and we had to make adjustment of the game and I covered him. So that was my first encountering with him. So I knew the second time around, Uh, I knew the freight train was coming. I knew the freight train Das Bryant was coming, and I knew, uh he was gonna be you know, uh amped up for this game. I definitely knew it. So I had to definitely, uh, you know, meet you know,
his uh. I had to meet uh you know, his uh, his his attitude and what he brought to the game. Level of competition. How much of a competitor are you. Chris Carlin was talking about you this morning after you did the ntview with Mike and Michael on our station, the seven ESPN, and he said, here's what you don't know about the roller Beavers. He's very quiet, nice guy,
but on the field, he's an assassin. Don't mess with him, don't get him started, because once you get him vocally going, he will shut you down and then that amps him up even more. You were false, true. True. I'm not a trash talker. I go out there and just try to do my job and and um, I don't initiate it. If it if it comes to me, then I'll start barking. But I just try to folk. I feel like it's too much energy wasting, Like you waste too much energy
jarring back and forth. Um it, it's definitely respect, mutual respect on on both sides. But then, um there's some crazy things that be said out there on the field. So I don't think you're just gonna let anybody say anything, uh you know, about you or to you, especially because the magnitude of the game and it's a lot of emotions involved, and that's what happened with the Josh Norman and um Odell Beckham situation? Yeah, yesterday. Do you like where this team is at? You think it's rounding in
the form you won a championship last season. Yeah, and this Jets team seems like it's peaking and also finding ways to win, finding different ways each and every week. And that's gotta go a long way. Oh yeah, definitely it does. Um, we we have the right pieces. Um. You know, this is coach Bowl's first year. Um, you know, so it's it's is fairly new. Uh and I'm sure it's new um to to the Jet fans as well of us is uh, you know, coming out and having
a successful year. So um, we we definitely got the pieces. We got the coaching staff, Um, we got the players to do it. So. Um, you know, this year has been awesome. It's it's been up and down, but I think this is what build great great teams, you know, uh, fighting fighting against adversity all the time. I mean we're in four gaming in the streak and we could continue to control our destiny throughout the year. That's the voice
of the Roe Rivas. Larry Harvesty and Eric Allen inside the Jets live a calandency on nine the eights of ESPN. You know what it takes to win. You're here the first time you guys won had as Earth mentioned championship last year. There's a certain chemistry. Yes, there's a certain camaraderie. There's uh uh hold the rope tighter with my brother's attitude, you find that here? Is that? Um? Yeah? Um, I think we got a close group of guys, um. Uh. And we have a lot of veteran guys. I think
that's why. And the younger guys are responding very well, uh to how we approach uh you know each week. Um. And and that's it. I mean, we got a lot of leaders on the team and the guys follow. But at the same time, UM, you know, if we can go sixteen and know anybody would take that, um you know uh sometimes you know, it takes a while for for a team to jail, you know. Um. And that's
what we've been doing. We've been jelling. Um. Like I said, it's been up and down season, but around November and December, this is when you want to play your your best football. And um, we're starting to to play our best football and be consistent on the week to week basis thrill. What's young guy back there in the second area's real impressed you this season? Um, I'll say, Uh, Marcus Marcus Williams, Yeah,
a K A double M. We call him. Uh, he's he's. Uh. When I first got here, when I first signed back, I thought Marcus was just the way he handles itself. Uh, he's he's a pro. Um, he's demeanor, the way he handed the stuff, you would think he's played five or six years in the league. And that's when I thought when I first got here, Um, just how he approaches
the game. And UM, you know then you you know, you introduced yourself and you they introduced themselves and he's like, oh, I'm only in my second year and I'm like, oh wow, Like Scott, Scott's a limit for you, brother, Like you are a pretty good and UM, you know you see that out in the field with Marcus. Um, he's not
he's not one of our starters. But UM, if if we need to make adjustments for him to start or to put him in certain packages on our defense, UH, he's definitely probably the first guy that we would throw in to to make that happen. And he's got natural ball skills this year. Yeah, he's leading us and picks so that's that's his game. Speaks for herself. He's he's doing it all right. Or you can give us a unique perspective because you were up there last year and
you've got New England and the Jets this week. Um, the one thing you said about Bill Belichick, he doesn't change, you know what he's bringing to the table there. There's there's a focus. He's going to try to take your best thing away. That's what he does. Uh. But what how do they view the Jets in doing Oh man,
it's like that's a that's a tough one. The same way as we view them, which is uh is you know, it's you know, the two organizations don't don't really like each other there and m on their side, it's the same on our side, it's it's probably probably it's the same. It's going to continue to probably be that way just because of the past history that the two organizations had with each other. And and and that's what makes it fun.
I mean, it's it's no different than uh, your high school rivalry or your college rivalry or you know, your NFL robbery it's it's it's a robbery that we have. Um and uh, you know this week we got them and we're we're excited. We'll site as a team. Um. You know, we felt like the first game we played them earlier this year that we let me slip away. We were one of two plays away of winning that game. Uh. And I think that's that helped us grow to as a team, um early in the season. So um, that's
that's that's how we feel. It's gonna be fun. So the Patriots are your West Virginia Mountaineers. If yeah, yeah, when I was at pitch yea Pitt, West Virginia, Pitt pen State. Yes, what's it? What's it like? Uh, you gotta go on the phone booth every week and you gotta put on the superman guys do because folks, when they look at you and God forbid you ever give up a pass, people are gonna ask, hey, what's wrong
with Darrell? Is that something that you will have embraced throughout your NFL career being the guy that everybody depends on out there on that island. Um, Eric is it's just um, you know, given the opportunity of going out there and to do what I what I'm able to do. Um. And these are these are coaches who saw the talent in me, uh going out there and I canna be a shutdown corner. They gave me that opportunity to do it,
the platform to do it. Um. You know, at that point, it's it's all just you know, you're being competitive and and and now wanting to give up a catch here and there, and UM, I think that's where just the passion comes in, you know about playing the position. Um. I mean you look at some of the greats, uh, Dion Sanders, the dal Greens, the Champ Bailey's, the Charles Wilson's, the guys that I've I studied, UM when I was a team. Um, you want to mimic them, you want
to be like them. I mean, you know you hear about Dion Senators. Uh he's shutting the guy down for for one catch in one game, and you're like, wow, that's amazing, Like he just traded demolished him the whole game. Uh. So it's just it's something within you that you have to step up and um, you know, be very competitive, but be also passionate about what you're trying to do. Um, when you're out there Christmas shopping done. No, I'm not done Christmas shopping. I'm a last minute I'm a last
minute Christmas shopping that. Yeah, so this week I'll be running around a little bit. Hurry up, I know. I mean the lines are long, man. Yeah, I do it online. Another thing is you, uh the sixty minutes piece, which I enjoyed. By the way, not too many things surprised me. But at the end there's Durrell playing drums. Did not know Durrell played drums. I think we gotta do something with that. How long have you been playing drums? For? Oh? Man?
For probably about teen years. I've been playing. I've been in a drummer and and um, I learned naturally, no lessons. Uh, just got a ear for for the snare drum and the drum set and and that was. That's one of my hobbies that I like to do. You get away from you know, your drumming, you get into the to the whole music deal. Well, I'll tell you what we thank you for coming by. And next time, if you take some crispy Eminem's with you want you on the line,
I'll go faster. Definitely. I appreciate Robby the ladies and gentlemen. Thank you guys. Happy holidays. Right now, All right, partner, let's bring in a Texas native, Chris Ivory, he went back there this weekend and got the victory. What was it like playing in front of uh your family and friends? I know you had a lot of folks there and you you guys were able to pull that game out
in the fourth quarter. Oh it felt good man, you know, just to go go back to Texas and get a win. And um, you know, I had a lot of family come out that that has never seen me play and uh that you know, Um, you know that was the first time I seen me play, first time to a professional football game. So uh, it was, it was. It was a good one. So ja so how much? How? First of all, here's an important thing. I want to know how many tickets? How many people are upset with
you right now because they didn't get seats? Um? And what are you gonna have to do to make that up for the holidays? Were there were twenty tickets and no one was upset? And um, no gifts? You know that was that was their gifts. Chris, You're have already reached career highs in terms of rushing yards You're ninety one career highs and attempts and also receptions. How much are you enjoying playing in this offense because we talked
about it for a number of years. You always knew you could catch the football, but now you're getting those opportunities. I'm sorry I heard you, but it just went over my head. How much you enjoying playing in this offense getting those receiving opportunities. You're a career high right now with your receptions. I'm enjoying it, man. Just just being able to go out and just prove. And so you know the people that you know don't see us practice every day or yeah, just the people that don't see
this practice every day, just saw them. You know that, Chris care You know I have the hands. I've um developed better hands do it during this offseason. But um, you know my game is coming together and going forward,
we're just looking to continue to be productive. Chris. It's gotta be a lot of fun for you to run the football the way you've run the football and to see we talk about receiving and to see how the receivers have blocked for you downfield, that how both of you, the whole team is working together to get that ball in advance of offensive book from yourpe from from you know, with the receivers helping you block while you're running on
going down the field. I missed the question, man, how much fun is it for you to have these receivers support you and blocked for you as you go down the field. It's great, man, having those big body guys outside just leading away for me, it's great, man. And it's something you have receivers on the outside doing a good doing a job that they're doing. You know, it always allows for more explosive plays. Um momentum shifts um with the offense, and you know that that leads to wounds.
Chris Water is a thousand yards? Mean? Yeah, it means a lot. Man. It'll be my first thousand in ya season if I could get that, uh these next few games. Uh, looking to get it this next game. But it means a lot of putting a lot of work and you know, just looking forward to show, you know, just eclipse of thousand yards. So I compire money says, first quarter. He
takes care of this week. First quarter. First, I got first quarter um this year with Ryan Fitzpatrick here at the quarterback at this offense, well versed as passing the ball, how has the pass helped the run for you? Well, that's one of those things. You know, it's it's hand in hand. I think the run helps the pass, and the pass helps to gain um helps the run. But it's definitely helped because it takes takes guys out the box, leaves leaves me with a lighter box to work with.
And um, you know, when guys are in the box, it gets the receivers. You know, they're one on one matchups, and you know, allowed him to make plays on the outside. So it's, uh, it's definitely big. What do you think the key is gonna be against this new England defense? You guys played them earlier this year and you gotta look thirty to twenty three loss and you were right in that ball game. But when you when you look ahead this Sunday, what do you think the keys will
be against this defensive front? I think the key is um, mistake free football and be the team with the least at least turnovers. Usually a team with the least turn turnovers come out on top. And that's what we're looking to do. And um, other than that, man's just putting the work during this week and just be prepared. Chris Army is our guest. Larry Harsting and Eric Allen where
at Colango's Italian village. It's inside the jets on seven ESPN. Chris, I think you enjoy auditioning now punishment to defenders as you're running with the hard running style you have. How did you get that style and how do you maintain your body so that you continue to do that and stay healthy? Well, I think it's a mentality. Man. Um, that's my mentality. That's my that's my game and that's the way I've been running for a long time. Started
playing football third grade. Um, the coach told me if you let one guy bring you down, you're not running hard enough. So, um, you know it all, it all came together from from a child. But um, you know, just keeping my body together, I just continue to do my recovery program. I do acupuncture twice a week, massage twice a week. I see the card pract I do a lot. Man, it's a lot that goes into trying to keep this body healthy. But who were the guys you looked up to when you were growing up as
first running back? Uh? One guy that really stuck out the most to me was Emma Smith. You know, growing up as a child, you from Texas close to Dallas. Um. You know, those guys were always always aired on TV, and that's one of the guys that I've seen the most. So Emma Smith, have you spoken to him and and did he have an influence on your running style? Because I don't. I don't know if he ran as hard as you did because he had holes that were like yeah why, So I don't know if he had to
run as hard as you you've been running. No, I didn't get my style from them at all. Nothing from Emmin Smith came to me. But um, you know, everybody has their style and that's the style that worked for him, and this is the style that that's worked for me. Um, I think the style allowed me to make it as far as I've made it now, and so you know, I'm just gonna continue with it and um, you know, in the future, just you know, just trying to continue
to be productive and consistent. The holes aren't always there. How much do you have to create in your own sometimes because and I talked to you about this before, it's not And people do say you're a hard charging running back and you're violent runner, and you are, but the underrated parts of your running style I think are number one, you have great vision. Number two, you have tremendous speed. So how much do you have to create
on your own? Be Sometimes the holes aren't there well in thistily sometimes you know that's what you have to do. You have to be able to create that. That's what separates UM the average back from from other backs. But creating is what a bag has to do. You know, every player is not gonna be blocked, blocked perfect you know, which you know a lot of people understand and I
definitely understand that. But when it's not, when it's not blocked, you know, as it is on paper, and you have to go out and make something, make something happen to be a playmaker, and you gotta make that in a split second. You don't have a lot of time. I see you attacking a hole. Sometimes they're eight guys in a box and then you're like, oh, I got nothing here,
I'm gonna bounce. When if you're watching up in the press box, you're like, you don't have anything, but you find something, so you gotta make that's a quick decision, definitely a quick decision, or it's it's a lot that goes on the people don't see um you know that I may see or people on the field can see. Um, that's a lot of setting up blocks. Um, you know, bringing blocks to to to the lineman and just you know,
just playing off that. But all in all, man, you just you know, I try to press the whole, be patient, allowed to develop when it's not there. I just try to create. And you do very well with yards afterwards after contact. You like dragging people along with you. Also just talk a little bit about how how important is for you to have extra yards after the catch, to keep on to expound where you're going. Well, any time you get any time I get the ball, like I said,
and I don't want to let one man bring me down. Um. You know, in my head, I'm thinking, you know, get the first down or or test down, That's what I'm thinking. But um, you know, I'm just I'm just trying to be productive and and move the chain. You know, it's always good when you can moody change you know, first intent or or whatever it may be. But um, just being consistent and moving the change is always big for offense.
How much if you enjoyed playing with Blap over the last couple of years back big time playmaker he comes in the game, you know his duty is you know, he usually catches a lot of passes. You know, he comes in the game, catches his past and you know, from there he's he's making all kind of movies, making guys miss and getting up the field. You know, very explosive player. Chris. How has this offense grown from the beginning of the season? So how has this offense grown? How?
How how good is his execution wise from the beginning of the season up till now? Um, you know, let's come with Tom. I think we've mastered or I think we've got comfortable with um the few players that we run and you know, just being comfortable, guys are able to go out and just execute and just make plays.
And I think when you know, as a team or as an individual player, when you're comfortable with a certain play, I think you're you're you're you're more productive because you're able to just go out and you know, just make something happen because you you know, you just know what's
gonna happen. Yeah, it seems would you say chan Gailey went back to basics because he said last week that maybe I was trying to do too much with the playbook at a certain point and he said, hey, we're gonna scale back a little bit and do what we do well good chan with with the offensive playbook during this win streight. Do you think you scaled it back a little bit? Oh, he definitely scared scared it back a little bit. Um, you know, he did take it
back to the basics. He took it back to what we were comfortable with and what what what we were more productive with. And you know, right now we're just moving forward with that and you know, just moving on to you know, each game with with that same plan, and it's more of a mentality as um, you know, you know what we're doing, but come stop it, you know. So yeah, so well that's that's how we approach it. When you stop it, we'll stop. And it doesn't look
like people are stopping it. And that also would do help by your offensive line. Talk a little bit about the play for your offensive line this year, by those guys that they've done a great job of front paving them wait for me. You know those guys, Um, I think they think very holly holly of me. They want to see me get that thousand a thousand yards. Uh, you know, pro Bowl and all that, but you know they're they're working hard for me each week, and um,
you know I I take that to heart. So you know, just knowing that those guys are fighting for me means a lot. And those guys are doing it. You know what, Eric, when you talk to the offensive linement about him, they always say how much they get charged up by watching him run and break tackles, and it just, you know, just focuses them even more. I'll tell you what. Brian Winters, after this guy went off in London against the Miami Dolphins.
I said, they, uh, you know, you guys are blocking for him, but do you ever get a chance to admire him? And he Briant said, it's like a video game out there sometimes with Chris the way what he does. One he gets to the second level and I feel bad for the defensive backs. Honestly. I know it's a National Football League and those guys get paid, but uh, those safeties, uh in corners from New England, if they're gonna be seeing Chris, Yeah, that's gonna be tough for
them this week. But let's see what happens. Have you thought about I know it's all about team goals. But have you thought about what you do with the ball and your carry? If you get a thousand this week, where that ball would go while I'm playing to keep it in frame? If that's that's uh, that's my plan. It would be a great accomplishment. It will excellently, it will be. But um, you know, once that happens, I'm just looking, you know, in the future, just to you know,
do better. Series a year, to get better and that's you know, that's what I'm gonna trying to do. Is that? And of course you have team goals obviously, but for individual goals along with the team, is that something that you say at some out of the yards staying healthy? What are some of the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the season. I don't really see the set too many goals, but you know, one of
them that realistics. I was just staying healthy. Um, so I focused on that and uh, you know, a thousand, a thousand plus it's one of my goals. And to make it to the Pro Bowl. But you know a lot of people look, you know, they say, oh, he hasn't he hasn't hit a thousand yards, But it also, um, you know, you have to have those carries to hit
a thousand yards. Most guys with a thousand yards that they have two hundred plus carrieres And this would be my first season while where I've had, uh, two hundred plus carriers. So you mentioned everything you do physically to keep yourself healthy. How do you feel after fourteen games right now? Right now? I feel pretty good, man, I'm M, I'm M. I'm impressed. Um. Like I said, everything I do, with everything, everything that's gonna allow my body to be
in a perfect shape down this stretch. And I think I've done pretty good with that so far. And I'm just gonna continue on with what I'm doing and uh, hopefully my body continues to hold up the way it's been well. Chris, listen, thanks for coming by, and good luck this week, and have a great holiday all right, Thanks Chris Ivory. Jefers got It walks into the ends of That's a Jet cuts down and a Jets family with eight ago. Now back to Inside the Jets on ninety eight point seven ESPN. Here's Larry Hardisty and Eric Gallatin. Welcome back to the final segment. Here Coloe's Italian village for the week. The this is it. It's the Jets,
it's the Newland Patriots, it's uh. It's a divisional game, it's a conference game, it's the next game. It's an important game. And when you talk about all and I love what Top Bowls continues to say, it doesn't matter what everybody else does. It doesn't matter any of the you know, the calculations. You have to win every game that's left in the season. That's what you have control of. That's what you got to go down. Well, it really
doesn't matter. I mean, there are scenarios where the Jets can get into the postseason where they lose one and everybody uh loses out. Basically that's not gonna happen. Let's be honest here. So you know, and like I said last week, I'll put it on a line I think the Jets will make the postseason if they go eleven and five, and we'll have to We'll have to see what happens because Kansas City, we know the scenarios here.
It is so the Jets have to win out, Kansas City has to lose or tie, or Pittsburgh has to lose or tie, or Denver loses one game, and then the Jets would get in at eleven and five. But Bowls have said the same attitude, the same approach throughout this whole deal. We got a number of one game seasons. Right now it's two. It's down to two. The Jets have got on a low run, which is fine. That set themselves up to play very meaningful football here. Late
in December, the Patriots come to town. And I really mean that it doesn't matter that it is the Patriots. It matters because the Jets have to win it. It's a big game. It's the last game at MetLife Stadium in two thousand fifteen, barring a miracle in the postseason and things like that, uh fan appreciation game. But the Jets have to win because it's not just because of the Patriots, is because who doesn't matter of the Tennessee
Titans the same day. Who charges Miami Dolphins. It doesn't matter, you know, And then they can look up and Bulls has always said that. Larry said, at the end of the season, we can look up and see where we're at. And if the Jets are eleven and five, they to give themself a hike of a chance to get in. Uh the game that I think is gonna be interesting if the Jets can take care of businesses. Denver is playing at home against the Cincinnati Bengals. Denver's ten and four.
The Bengals are eleven and three. You know, Denver since Nanty wants that first round by as well, that's a big game. Backup quarterbacks in there. You got uh mccaron for the Bengals, you got Asweler for Denver. But you know, the Jets have a huge test this week. The Patriots are defending Super Bowl champions. They are eleven and two. If the season ended today, there's a number one seed
in the a f C. They are banged up. Tom Brady's a quarterback and all by the way, I think this is one of the better Patriot defense is that we have seen over the past decade. They can get after the quarterback. The Jets have to protect Ryan Fitzpatrick because we know what Belichick is gonna do, gonna take away your strength. So he's gonna load the box against Chris Ivory because he doesn't want I ready to beat him. And he's also gonna play that double coverage on Brandon Marshall.
Could be a big game again for Eric Decker, who in the first meeting saw a lot of Malcolm Butler. It's gonna be interesting, it's gonna be a good but I'll see you out there Sunday, partner, alright, looking forward
to it.
