Snacks. What do you look back at Sunday's game with the Eagles and you guys coming to work today, it's Monday, it's correction day. What do you guys seeing felt. Um, you know, it was great effort, especially in the second half, but we left a lot of players out there on the field. Um, you know, it wasn't so much of what they did. You know, I take my hats off to the guys over there. They came in with an excellent game plan, but you know, it was more self
inflicted wound than anything. Larry talked about it before and he asked this question that the brikashaw was damon. How much halftime adjustments did you guys make? Was it? Or was it? Hey, listen, we're just not playing to our level. You guys know what you're doing, and we're gonna run our stuff. Yeah, it was. It was just a little we're not we're not where we need to be. Um,
we didn't change much, uh, if anything. You know, he just came in and related the message to the guys that we're not getting it done, so we need to pick it up, take it to another level. But you know there was something adjustments. Um, as far as the defensive front were concerned. But the guys in the back end that they play the heck of a game. And you know this game right here, we the guys that are front, we put that on ourselves because we're allowed
wayy too many Russian guards. Damon, how tough was adjusting to their fast break offense that they have. How much of an adjustment was that for you guys? I find it was tough. Um, the first couple of teams he played, they weren't so much no how to like, Uh, the Eagles are, but um it was kind of a slow pace, you know, hurry up offense. Um, it wasn't what we expected. We were. I would say we were going at least twice as fast during the practice week so we could
prepare for But um, you know it wasn't. It wasn't as bad and glass we thought it was gonna be. But you know, those guys came in with an excellent game playing and they executed it. How often does that happen where you see something on video or film that you prepare for and the the team comes out and changes makes adjustment, maybe slows the temple down speed some things. So maybe do something a little different every week. Every week. Um, you know the coaches, they self scouts, They self scout
their own teams, so they're known for doing something. You know, you can't always just just do it every week. You have to change it up. You have to give us something and throw us out balance. And so that's what they kind of did. You have a new defensive line coach and Pepper Johnson, a former player. A character a guy gets after you follows up front, What specifically has he worked on with you? As far as technique, uest attacking the line of scrimmage, um taking a power step.
You know, a lot of the stuff we did before was all pass rushing. It was speed, it was getting up the field. With him, it's it's more power rushing so that it's easy to convert some pass the run as opposed to if you're taking a speed step, you're really just focusing on the on the run stopping and it's harder to convert. What's he like in that the defensive line meeting room when you guys are all together, because you got some talent dudes up front and a
lot of personalities. He said that he's a character man um, but he's played the game, So he understands the ends and the outs. Um, he can tell you exactly what's going on, and he isn't guessing on anything. He knows what you were thinking on in certain plays, and he also tells you what you should have been thinking on certain places. So you know, it's been a blessing to have fet in the room. Now, speaking of adjustment, you
made an adjustment yourself thinner than you were before. Tell me how you make the adjustment to lose the weight but not lose the strength. How do you make the adjustment to what you do with weight training? You have to supplement. How did you change your thiets and everything else? Um, just just cut out some of the bad stuff. Um. You know, my nickname is Snacks. I'm known for eating a lot of you know, unhealthy food. So just curving that a little bit. Um, but still standing in the
weight room, still lifting the weights. Um, it's kind of hard to drop weight without losing some muscle masks, but I was able to attain it. Now, how do you feel? Do you see the difference? You quicker? Are you? You know? Come on, if you can pray a little bit, come on, tell me how you feel. Yeah, I think I'm penetrating a whole lot more than I have in the past, um, which is the credit to the guys in the weight room. They did an excellent job with comparing me and also
the guys that parabolic this offseason. But yeah, I do I feel a whole lot better. I mean my body, my knees, everything feels great. I think you look quicker. But it's not only are you embracing this system of one gaping, but the thing is you're go on side to side better than I've ever seen you before. I saw you made a play in a backfield uh yesterday where you're you're ding a near out of bounds. I mean you're covering, uh from a boundary to boundary at times.
And how much pride are you taking in the fact that you are moving better and you aren't just staying in the middle. You make it plays already? Feel um, it feels great. Um. Philly came in that it wasn't too much down here running um, you know which I think that's the credit to our defensive line. It was more side to side. So in order for me to be a factor in the game and be able to make plays in the game, I had to adjust and um be able to move sideline the sideline with the
rest of the guys when the defensive line. How's the rookie Leonard Williams coming along? Great? I mean you're seeing them on film. Man, Um, what's the difference. But what's the difference between week three and week one? Well, he knows exactly what to expect now before he was asking a lot of questions. But still, um, you can tell a rookie anything, but until they experienced it themselves and um and go through it, I mean he won't fully understand it. But now from week one week three, it's
night and day. Damon harrison'st asked inside the jets here at College as Italian Village Larry Harshton Derek Allen on nine in the ESPN. How much fun is that for you? Was a ventuan to bring along a young guy, a rookie kid, uh teach him the way to make him a professional? Teaching from rolls. It's awesome because you know, I just see what the brickishaw saw when he looked at me. When because my locker is right next to him his and um, I would ask him questions every day,
every minute. I had an opportunity to and I still do to this day. So you know, just just seeing how Leo is with myself and how I work with Brick, you know, I know how much that means to Leo and the rest of the guys when they asked me a question because they genuinely want to know. What did the young Damon asked the Brick Shaw back in the day, when when when you were a league out of william patting a little bit of everything? Man Um football life, Um, how to be a professional, how he was able to
attain the status that he's had his entire career. Um, how to play certain blocks? What is he thinking when he's playing the defensive lineman that's known for using his hands versus a guy that's running up the field. You know, Um Brick, Nick Mangold And at the time, UM Brandon Moore. You know I stayed in those guys ears. I wanted to know. Now you got a guy coming back and Richardson after the break, after the big week, how much fun is that going to be to get your guy back?
And how even though it's a tough situation, how good is it for Leonard Williams have gotten those reps? But you would not have gotten otherwise. It's it's everything, um, just to see what you know, Coach Bowls will do to get all of those guys on the field, you know, at once at one time. You know, I think it would be tough, but we'll get it done. And Shelton
is a special player. UM, myself, Shelton and Mohammed, we we've built some chemistry with each other over the past couple of years and you know now we're trying to do that with Leo. But on one Shelton gets back on the practice ship. I mean it's talleng speaks for herself, the guys, the head coup of player and you know, we're excited to have him back. A big mole. Mohamed Wilkinson,
you just mentioned him. We've unspoiled because we expect such good things from him and he's performed very well throughout these first three games. What about the play a legit ducible though, like guys come in and stepped into a bigger role for you guys here here early the season, and we've always known what Doudes who what could do since he's he's been here. Um, he's a backup on the depth chart, but the guy can step in and
play big time innutes and produce. Um. I don't know if you've been paying attention, but dudes, it goes all over the field. He's at the linebacker spot. You know, it's tackle three technique defensive end. So you know, it's been a it's been good that we can have a guy like dudes whople to move all over the sale and keep teams off. As a kid who grew up in the South, what do you think about the Miami Dolphins? Who's right? Did you always think that way? Yeah? Yeah,
I did. Um. I can't tell you who my team was back then, but you know I never liked the Dolphins. You're looking forward to this trip to London to face them in the divisional game? Not so much. The times don't change, you know. I'm I'm I'm a big sleep guy. UM, A lot a lot to get used to in a in a little amount of time. It's not gonna is that adjustment going to be something that you can't really think about. You just gotta let it happen, because well,
I kind of mess you feel a little bit. You keep dwelling on, we keep asking you about Yeah, I don't think I'll have the time to really just not think about it. Um, because I think they said the game would be about nine o'clock our time, so they mean we'll be prepping about five o'clock in the morning here, you know, getting ready and just trying to just get excited and everything for the game. But it's a division game and it's a rivalry game, so I don't think
it would be a problem. You think you're gonna be able to sleep on a plane Thursday? Oh yeah, no doubt. Okay, so you get there on Friday. You're excited. You're gonna be practicing on a rugby field. I don't I don't know the difference. They call it the pitch, right, Yeah. Yeah, I'm just excited to see some stuff. I've never been over that way before. Um, it'll probably be my last time if I'm not playing the game going over that way, I'm terrified the flying. But um, you know, hopefully I
can sleep the entire trip. They not have to be up because I'm ed. But but you can sleep through hopefully. Yeah. I don't want to wake up. If I do. Um, you know, it'll be some problems. Oh really, yeah, them you're going to be the first one that's gonna want to go back over there. So you're saying that now, but you're gonna be the first one after which go back, have a little vacation over Absolutely. I don't think. What are you saying without a plane? Mohammed and THEE know
about your fear, yeah he does. Um, I've been taking pictures to people sleeping and everybody get me back so you know there's six six and a half hour trip. Um, you know I have to sleep in one eye open. No, you can't do that. You gotta you gotta sleeper. But turned sideways, I think, bring a cover to cover my face. So okay, getting in a good picture. Alright, that's a good Yeah, listen, thanks for coming by, no problem, but happy on Sunday morning.
