Welcome back to Colando's Italian village here in West Caldwell, New Jersey. Joined us on Bloomfield Avenue and gentle over to the perfect setting with fun with friends, fine food and drink the Madison Hotel, Rod Steakhouse and g k Is Red Dog located on Madison Avenue in Morristown. And Eric kind of you have a very special guest who just made the second moment ago. That's right, Larry. Let's let's bring in the agelest one, Kelvin Pace, who just
reminded me he's in his NFL season. Calvin, thanks for joining us, well, thanks for having me. Kelvin. You've played against the Patriots so many times in your career and you've been part of this rivalry for a long time. What stands out from yesterday's ball game? Uh, Tom Brady did it again so us. You know, we just the fourth quarter, he kind of heat it up on us and we just uh, we couldn't get up to field
a couple of times. But it always comes out to the same factor, trying to defend him and get for showing him. Um find a way to get up the field, and that's where it always starts. You know, Calvin, it's funny because you talked about it and the guys talked about it before. It is so tough to get off the field on third down with them, and part of it is because of what they do on earlier downs that sometimes makes that third down on occasion a little
more manageable for them. Yeah, yeah, you gotta do. You have to do a good job in first and second down to make that third down longer than say seven yards. Make it tough for him. Um, I think that helps us out up front getting to him. Um. He gives the guys on the back end a little bit more time to uh, to stay on them on their man. But again, I mean, you have a Hall of Fame quarterback who can squeeze throws and windows who you know. I mean, you're talking about my age with Now he's scrambling.
He added that to his game. I'm like, you know, back in the day, you know, he just used to stand back there, but now he's gonna have to pocket a little bit. So he he always finds a way to make a play. But it's just that that's the challenge to try to find a way to maybe confuse him or to get to him. Um, get him off the spot. You know, it's it's a game within the game.
Did they attack you differently in the second half? Obviously the offense help you guys in the first half of those long drives, the fifteen play the four team play drives. And did fatigue be cam become an issue at all late for you guys? You know, I don't. I don't think fatigue was an issue. I just think that, Um, a guy stepped up for and may plays when they counted, and Um, it's just a couple instance when we just could have got off the field, I think it would
have been a different outcome. Um. But with that being said, I mean we talked about that today. Guys understand they understanding, They understood it going into the game. Um, you know, you live and you learn. I think it'll it'll help us actually moving forward, UM, just to to to build off the situation and and go out and play a tough open team. Why do you think it will help you? And what did you learn about this New York Jets team? Well, I mean, I know we're a fight I know we
we were not afraid to go on roads win games. Um, but it just shows if you have to play four quarters. You can't play three great quarters and um, you know, lit off the gas on what now you gotta play four quarters? And especially with a team like that who's done that consistently. We we just have to find a way to win that game. Man. It could be special team play, it could be uh Chris breaks, a long run would have It doesn't matter, but we just had
to find a way. As you go longer in your career, is it easier to put a game like that behind you, look at the film and then move on to the next team. Yeah, yeah, I mean you know again, you gotta spoke on it. I've done it so many times against it, against them, so I kind of you already know how the story is gonna be scripted. It's gonna
come down to the last drive for one of the teams. Um, but again I've learned to try to take positives, um out of woodmen might be looked at as a negative as in the loss, and um, you just gotta keep moving. I mean, if least come so quick, gotta be able to put it behind you. Um, and you can't live one loss turning the two losses. She's gotta keep moving forward. And how much confidence do you have in the guys in that room and your leader, Todd Bowles as far
as saying, hey, that was yesterday. We corrected mistakes, but we've already moved on because the media, as you know, is gonna discuss this with you. Yeah, they might even bring up the Patriots on one day. But you guys going there, you make your corrections today and you're already in Oakland. Felt Yeah, it's already been spoken upon. You have to move on. But I think coach Bowles did a great job just saying this is just game six.
You know, it's not like the Super Bowl. Um, it's it's the most important game because it's the next game. I think that's a great way to look at it. I think win lose. With draw, he would have had the same um reaction. You know, he's pretty even killed. So she gotta keep moving even if we were one, He's gotta keep moving forward. Confenations, our guests, Let's talk a little bit now about the mindset of going to Oakland. Preparation, travel,
leaving the day early. But what goes into preparing for Oakland from a travel stample, Oh not a lot really, I mean, you got just pack your bag a day earlier, you know, get ready for a little time change. But you know, we've got enough guys in the locker room who've done it, maybe not the way we do it, but they've had experience scoring from east to west. The biggest difference is just your rest. Just keep up with
your rest, stay on point. Um. I mean, I know guys will compare the same way as far as film and knowing what the game plan is, but that's that's probat it just keeping up on rest. And I mean the beauty of it is if you get a chance to watch college football, um all day because the games are earlier, you know, a great time. You big college football fan, of course you want to wake forth. Yeah. Yeah, we were not doing to uther, but I'm a huge college football family. Yeah. And who do you think, uh,
the top teams this year right now? If you were selecting the top four, yeah, the playoff, if you were on the committee, who who would you having in it? Right now? You gotta go how State. I would have said Baylor too, with the quarterbacks out for the year, but the freshman is gonna be pretty good. I think, Yeah, it's gonna be interesting. Um, gotta go TCU I'm gonna go Clemson and ah, lets you okay, I took I
took Baylor out because of the quarterback. All right, yeah, Ale, you got a big one with Bama in a couple of weeks. Yeah. Uh. Do you agree with the Urban Myers troice of starting quarterback? He had to do it. He had to do it. I think, Uh, with the weapons they had, I think they needed like a true quarterback that type of field. I think I like I like t Be because he can move the ball in the air, but he can run when called upon. Um. I mean, I think Jones had the bigger upside, but
they just they just wentn't clicking. Now. Of course you want to awake. And you started a career with the Arizona Cardinals and then you signed a big free agent contract with the New York Jets. Do you remember your visit because I remember you coming in like it was yesterday. The Jets took you up in the helicopter to show you the area. Didn't there. Yeah it was. That's the best recruiting visit I had, even even to count of my college visits. Um. And I made a call that night.
I was like, I'm coming, I'll be I'll be a jet. But it was a day, a weekend that that I'll never forget. Um. You know a lot of people don't remember, don't know this, but Dave Harris was my host, and I always make fun of him because he was, uh, he was getting a littlenauseous on the plane. Man, I don't know nothing like the helicopter. So I had to like easy situation. And I'm like, man, if you would have vomited, I wouldn't have came. But but were you
cool with it? I thought you were scared of being out there too. Man. I held it together a little better day, man, Just you know, I just kind of tried not to look out the window. The product was like, yeah, we're gonna tell you guys a little higher. In my mind, I'm like, man, we don't need to go any higher. It was a cool time to take you over Manhattan and everything right Manhattan. We went out and saw the Statue of Liberty Man. They I mean they it was it was a show. It was nice, Um. And then
we came out to Jersey. Um saw the facility before it was built, basically just the frame and some dirt. Um flew out from what he's farm and flew back to Long Island. Wow, it seems like yesterday you talked about how Criticason's going, say, you already played six games this we believe how quit this is going? Yeah, I was flew by. I mean my favorite time of the year, you know, training camp ever seemed like that was the longest time ever before you know where we're ever in
week six? So yeah, that's I mean, that's part of you know, having that quick memory. You just gotta keep moving because before you know, it wouldn't be December. You know, you've played money systems throughout your career and you guys are always gonna say football's football. But what's the most significant different or aspect of this system? Would you say? Um? And can comparison with last year? Just everything and everything? Um, how would you explain to the Bulls that Casey Rodgers
approach their system? It's similar. I mean, you know, it's just different faces, Um, some different verbiage, but the same. It's an attacking based scheme. Um, good front seven rely on the back end of covering. Um, It's it's the same. I mean, we I just think the additions have helped things. Um,
we're doing a great job creeing turnovers. It's just like it's just I think the guys who dealt with last year the ups and the downs carried over to this year got better and then we had to addison pieces. And it's just it's been working. It has been and especially those those young guys like in the secondary of Marcus Williams, guys like that coming prior had used that experience and now they're even better this year. Yeah. Now, they did a good job of just build them on
some good things, some bad things. I mean, you know, the shame of it is the best teachers. Some of the times, the bad times. You know, things you go through, but you you know, you're stick with it. You get better. Um. Like you said, they did a good job of just um, just learning from good and bad and just carrying it over this ship. Speaking of young guys, what are you seeing owt the Lorenzo Ball and the Trevor Riley, Because I know they're looking up to you as they start
theround careers. I mean, the guys are workers, They work hard. Um, they come out every day and try to get better, um, you know, and they do a good job of helping offense, giving the looks that they need um and and win thrust into the game. I think they do well. It's just you know, their roles right now, a little bit more special teams, um base. But the guys are gonna be two good players. Um and it's crazy just you look at them and the Trevor is not really young
but young any yeah, obviously had the Mormon mension. Yeah, yeah, but you know it's it's fun. It's fun going to work and being in the room with him because the personalities and what they bring on the field. Trevor, he really is a character. He's a character. He's a character. You never know what you're gonna get out of Trevor Riley from day to day. Colvin, listen, thanks for coming by. Good luck in opening and for the rest of the season.
All right, thank you for Muddy. All right, that's Calvin Pace.
