Chris? Yeah. Can I give you a little hint that'll make you popular? Let's get to Wicked Part 2 already. Let's just skip the rest of the list. We'll just start talking about Wicked Part 2. Everyone, can just go ahead and use that little 10, I think it actually it's 15 second fast forward button on your podcast. Just hit it 64 times. Yeah. Just hit it until about the hour mark. And we start talking about Wicked Part 2.
That's a, that's in reference to last week, Aaron, which is when we covered Gladiator 2 and Wicked Part 1. But this week on the Oblivion Bar podcast, we are talking about our most anticipated films of 2025, which is one of our favorite segments each year. Is it? I think it is. Yeah, it definitely is. Yeah, I was just saying, we are excited. It's basically like, like for me, it's like the Super Bowl because there's all the good trailers come out.
Yeah. You know, and it's the only reason I watch the Super Bowl commercials in the trailers. Go sports. The last time I ever watched the Super Bowl was, think, was it like actively watch actively watch it? It was like the Vikings, I think, when the power went out and like there was no lights. no, you're thinking actually, it's funny that you said that. That wasn't the Vikings. It was the Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers in New Orleans. And I'm a diehard Ravens fan, Aaron, as you know.
But we're not talking about football today. And we're talking about football. A lot of movies to cover. think a lot of these movies that we're talking about today will get trailers during the Super Bowl. Yes, that's that's it was called a segue, Chris. I'm trying to get better at it. Great job. There you go. All right. Well, let's tell everybody how they can support the people of our podcast. As you hear us talk about during every single episode, we'll make it quick this week.

Sometimes we trauma dump. Sometimes like we did last week. That's what we did.
We spent the first 20 minutes talking about trauma, which if that's interesting to you, you have that over there. I won't say it was trauma. It was just discussing like my mental health currently, which is not necessarily traumatic, but it was discussing. was like, yeah, we we we get that thing though. The grid is amazing and people should want to be there because it literally is just us like talking so transparently and I and I I love it. It's yeah. We weren't really trauma dumping.
We were just sort of circling the arena of trauma and like talking about how we deal with it. Yeah, exactly. Well, over there on Patreon, of course, you can get a behind the scenes look at how we prepare each episode with our episode transcripts, what we're using today. You can get a look at those. Aaron, without further ado, what do you say we get into our Most anticipated films of 2025. What about just one one ado without one ado without further previews? Without one ado. Let's get into our most anticipated films.
All righty, Aaron, why don't you tell the folks listening here again, if you haven't listened to this episode, which we do every single year, tell the folks how we sort of approach this episode. So this is, for lack of a better word, a just a look forward at the upcoming year, the imminently approaching year and the amazing movies or less than amazing movies that are coming out. So we take a list that we find a pretty pretty, you know.
full list of the, you know, 2025 or the following years, you know, what do you, what would you call it? Like announced film list. we just, we, we go through, we do a, a marathon of trailers. We, and we kind of just list what we're excited about and what we're not excited about. And then, you know, it's just, it's a fun way to be like, okay, this movie looks like absolute, like dog shit or, or this one looks insane and good, you know?
And, and that's the crazy thing is, you know, as we do that, There are some that will watch again and will be like, you know what? At the beginning of this trailer, or, you know, hearing the announcement, I was like, no, this is going to be crap. But after seeing the trailer, it looks phenomenal. Or after hearing who signed up for it, it's going to be that much better. Or after seeing like one example we'll get into is the cast in general, which is going to be problematic. Foreshadowing.
Foreshadowing. it's just, yeah. mean, add to that if I've said anything wrong. No, no, no. I think you surmise it quite well. I will say that like here on the Oblivion Bar, as most people know that listen to the show often, movie reviews are sort of a central pillar of our show. We are often watching movies and reviewing them here on the podcast.
It's one of Aaron and I's favorite activities to get together after going to the theater and watching a brand new film, whether it be a blockbuster, neon film, a 24, what have you, Disney, Pixar, whatever we like to get on here on the show. give you guys some fun facts, talk about how we felt about it. What's funny is that Aaron and I, often align on how we feel about movies, but every once in a while there is a time where we don't agree and that often makes for a fun conversation.
We're not ever going to fish for that type of altercation, but it is fun. A lot like the flash review from last year where we don't agree on our thoughts on it. Also, I think like Furiosa we didn't necessarily agree on as well. I think you liked it maybe a little bit more than I did, but I will say that like 2024 was a really odd year. You know, we got the SAG after strikes earlier in the year, which Aaron and I vowed to stop reviewing movies for that period of time.
Yeah. And those, and those like ripples are still affecting the industry and release schedules. And it's had a big impact. Like this year alone, we have not had as many Disney like, MCU releases as we've had in previous years. Just in general. Yeah. Just in regards to that, that's that those strikes. Yeah. But also the fact that it's given the studios a lot of time to kind of take a step back and review what they're releasing, how often and what quality they're releasing.
So I think, yeah, calling 2024 a weird year is an understatement. And to sort of look towards the future as we go through all these films, 2025, as Aaron just sort of spoke on a moment ago, is kind of a mixed bag of IP driven slash low budget. I don't want to say low budget, because that sort of sounds reductive. I would say just sort of more interesting tries from some of these bigger studios. Swings. Yeah, absolutely.
And one of the things that I really love about 2025 is that if you go back and listen to our Wicked and Gladiator 2 review from last week, we sort of talked about how all of 2024, top of the top 20 movies Grossing wise, think it's domestically only two or original films and only one of them is like a wholly original story. The other one being the wild robot, which was a book before that. The other 18 movies are all sequels or prequels or IP driven something. Not a good deal. We don't love that.
Aaron and I, we are absolutely shackled to Disney, Warner Brothers, Marvel, DC, Star Wars, all the things. Yeah, we are. Total shills. We totally get it. Most of the movies that we cover here on the show are IP driven films. That doesn't mean that Aaron and I only love those types of movies. So we're going to get into sort of a all encompassing list here. Now, Aaron, I'm going to start us off with January here. So on January 3rd, we have the damned.
Now, speaking of films that aren't necessarily IP driven. And again, as Aaron said earlier, we went through and watched all of these trailers before we got down, before we sat down, watch the dog, before he sat down and. this episode. This is being directed by, and Aaron, please help me if I mess any of these names up. Thor Durr, Halston? a 19th century widow has made an impossible choice when during, especially at cruel winter, a foreign ship sinks off the coast of an Icelandic fishing village.
The damned, an ominous and chilling thriller follows Eve and her crew as they come across a shipwreck and are faced with a moral dilemma to help or not. sort of a, I'm actually forgetting with the actual studio that made this film, but it is a foreign, I guess it is Icelandic. It is an Icelandic film. It's interesting. I will say that it's, I'm excited for this film. I think you based on your reaction, when we watched the trailer together, seemed like you were interested as well.
Yeah, I'm definitely interested. It looks terrifying. It looks interesting. I feel like in this case, it's going to be one of like the, the title is going to be very like not elusive or foreshadowing for the actual movie itself. But I kind of look at the trailer and I'm thinking, well, they're damned if they do and they're damned if they don't type situation. So that's why I kind of think the title is fitting. It looks really terrifying. It looks pretty amazing.
These and I don't necessarily want to call them like period pieces are have been really well done recently with movies like The Witch, Northman or Norseman. Some of these like just named two Robert Uggar films because we're about to get Nosferatu here a couple of weeks. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. And that one looks really good also. Yep. Absolutely. It was cool to see in this trailer. get it. It's mostly I would say.
And I mean this respectfully, sort of an unknown cast Rory McCann, who we just saw in gladiator two, of course, is Sandor the Hound, Clegane and Game of Thrones. Also from Hot Fuzz fame. It was cool to see him in this trailer as well. So I got a yard. I caught Aaron mid drink with that reference there. Let's move further along to January with the 10th, which is better man. You don't seem interested in this at all. am. I am so now I saw this trailer in the theater. I think it was before wicked.
It have either. It was either wicked or gladiators. One of those I've seen in front of like every movie I've seen for the last two months. So directed by Michael Gracie, director of the greatest showman, which I love. I love the greatest showman. You like the greatest showman. Okay. I love it. Better man is based on a true story of the meteoric rise, dramatic fall and remarkable researches of British props superstar Robbie Williams, which I love Robbie Williams.
I've been a fan of his for a long time. So one of the greatest entertainers and I quote unquote entertainers of all time under the visionary direction of Michael Gracie. The film is uniquely is uniquely told from Williams perspective, capturing his signature wit and indomitable spirit. It follows Robbie's journey from childhood to being the youngest member of the chart topping boy band.
Take that through his unparalleled achievements as a record breaking solo artist, all while confronting the challenges that stratospheric fame and success can bring. Now, none of this will prepare you for the fact that Robbie Williams is character. His persona, his persona. I don't. He's he is a monkey. The first of many monkey movies that we have this year, by the way, it's a monkey.
like when I watch this movie, you know, the first thing I thought of, I was like, this is Sing Sing three Kingdom of the Plenty Apes meets Sing. Yeah, it's this it's like literally the same thing because it's the kid. from the, you you watch saying it's the kid that was playing the piano. His parents are in jail and he's like, I can do it, pop. And like, this is the same fucking movie. Like everybody's like, he's like, want to be a superstar. He's got the British acts. Anyway, I have no desire.
I love Robbie Williams. I love the greatest showman, but I have zero desire to see this because it makes no fucking sense. Yeah. You know, it's interesting. I also had little to no, I wouldn't say little. I had no interest in this. And the only reason why I'm interested and the only reason why I think I may go see it.
in theaters and starting out in some areas here in the US and we're still in 2024 is that a good friend of the show and co-host of the combo couples counseling, Brad Gullickson reached out to me the other day. He was on the way to see it. We were talking just about podcasting and such and he said it's maybe one of his favorite of the year. his, his, know, very intense recommendation for this film. That was all the convincing I really needed to want to see this movie.
And this is coming from someone you said you were a fan of Robbie Williams. I'm not honestly, like I'm, never really been a Robbie Williams fan. I'm familiar with his work, but yeah, just not really interested until that recommendation from Brett. So I don't know what year it is, but there was this, song that he was Robbie Williams. Like I don't want to rock DJ.
don't, that may not even be the correct name of the song, but like he is the music video is him like dancing in the middle of this and he's like ripping off pieces of his body, like his skin and like throwing it into the crowd. And it's like the one of the cool, that was really, really my first experience of knowing like who he was versus his music versus just hearing his music. Sure. You know, so like for me that was like, man, I'm a fan of this guy because that's cool.
And I've heard a lot of his stuff before that song and after that song following, you know, that that one and kind of like really delved into his his discography. And again, amazing artist, amazing performer, amazing personality. But just this to me, this is not like a thing that I want to see in theater. So. Interesting. OK, well, let's move on. Same day, January 10th, we have Bird Eater, which is co-directed by Australian filmmakers Jack Clark and Jim Weir. Now, this is interesting.
This was not on my radar until we started doing research for this episode. A bride to be joins her fiance's bachelor party in a remote part of Australia as festivities, a spiral and beer soaked chaos happens. Uncomfortable details about their relationships are exposed, turning the celebration into a feral nightmare.
Now, it's what's interesting about that feral part is that During the trailer, you see quotes from all these different news outlets and people who have already seen the film and reviewed it. And they all just said, feral. Like feral was the main sort of key word in all of their review. You seem pretty interested in this as we were watching it. I'm also very interested. Are you going to go see this in theaters? I think so. It looks brutal.
Like it just looks like a, a, like, I don't even know exactly what it's about, but I'm part of the reason I want to go see it is because It looks like an experience where you like you go to somebody's party and you're just there and like the worst shit starts happening and it's like you want to leave but you're almost like scared to leave Yep, know and so I'm I am very interested in this movie Bad luck. When I told the boys you were coming, they got so excited.
I think this could be a star-making moment for Shabana Aziz, who I've seen in other things, and also Ben Hunter, who sort of plays like the best man in this trailer. He's sort of very sinister and yeah, very excited for this. So let's move on to the next one here. Aaron, I think it's cool that we keep going back and forth. So why don't you take the next one here? So January 17th sees the release of One of Them Days directed by Lawrence Lamont.
When they discover that Alyssa's boyfriend has blown their rent money, the duo finds themselves going to extremes. in a comical race against the clock to avoid eviction and maybe keep their friendship intact. So this is, I want to say it's SZA and I don't remember the other. Kiki Palmer. Kiki Palmer. So these are two, I know SZA is a performing artist and she's like a rapper. I don't know much about Kiki Palmer. She's done a lot of things. was in the Jordan Peele film recently. nope.
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So I do recognize her. But this to me, it looks funny. It's got Cat Williams. It's got Hannibal. What's the name? I forget his name. The comedic comedy comedian, the comedian Hannibal Jones or Hannibal something. didn't see him in the trailer. Yeah, that's interesting. This this movie looks funny. Like I as soon as I watch it, I compared it mentally to growing up Friday. Yeah. Like that's what it's going to, feels like a new generation of like a Friday film.
So I'm excited for this one. Definitely not, not a highly anticipated one, but definitely one that looks funny that I'll watch at home. This honestly has, I'm bored on a Friday night and I need to go to the movies cause I'm sick and I need, I need that in my life. I need that serotonin drop in my brain. If this is playing, like I want to see this regardless, but I could definitely see this being one that like, again, Friday night, I need to go to the movies.
Okay. I guess I'll go see one of them days. And I agree. looks, think I told you as we were about to watch the trailer, I was like, this looks really funny. So yeah, I totally agree with you on that one. All right. Let's move on to the next one here. The next film. And this actually comes out. We have a couple of films on the 17th of January. have September five, which is directed by Tim fell bomb during the 1972 Munich Olympics on September 5th, 1972.
An American sports broadcasting crew finds themselves thrust into covering the hostage crisis involved Israeli athletes. The film focuses. on the crew of the ABC Sports TV station that was located in the Olympic Village covering all the sports events live for the first time ever in television history. This looks really good. This is the kind of film that we need to make more of. This is a, again, I say this respectfully, low budget sort of thriller.
Of course, Aaron, what's rule number one here on the Oblivion Bar podcast? If you got a Scarsgard, your film's looking pretty good. We got Peter Scarsgard headlining this film. And I was not alive for this, original, obviously 1972. This is like 30 years before I was even born, but sorry, almost 20 years. But point being is that this looks awesome. I'm very excited for this.
Yeah. So I'm, I'm very, this is, this is a, it's, it's weird for me to say that a non science fiction, non like monster film is going to be close or a runner up or potential for one of my most anticipated films of the year. so 1972, 17 years, believe before the fall of the Berlin wall. So there's still West and East Germany. There's still just a lot of fascism. It's, this is a story that I am very excited to, see. I think it's, and it looks, the trailer looks amazing.
This is going to be one of those ones. Like you remember when Apollo 13 came out? I don't know if you remember that might've been before your time as well, but Apollo 13 came out and it was such an amazing film because it was so like realistic. Everybody was very like the acting, the cast was just beautiful. I feel like this is going to be like up there with one with the success of a film like that. job is to tell the story of these individuals whose lives are at stake.
It's not OK from here to worse. know the whole world is watching. If they shoot someone. television. Whose story is that? Is it ours or is theirs? What's the next one we have here on January 17th? So this is the one I'm excited about also Wolfman directed by Lee Whannell. Believe also the same directorial team as The Invisible Man. Yeah. So and also Saul. OK. OK. A San Francisco husband and father who inherits his remote childhood home in a rural Oregon.
after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they're attacked by an unseen animal and in a desperate escape, they barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. Say that five times fast, creature prowls the perimeter.
As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable and Charlotte will be forced to decide whether the terror within the house is more lethal than the danger without. Just to go real quick, like the fact that this was created also or directed by the same team as the Invisible Man, this leads me to believe that they are still trying to bring out this dark universe. The universal dark verse, yeah.
Yeah, so like I like it, I love it because this trailer looks phenomenal. It looks scary as shit. I love a good Wolfman movie. A good Lycan. Like and like like on therapy like an therapy, whatever it's called. I love it. So I'm excited for it. I agree with you. This is definitely it feels like they're still trying to do that. But it seems like they're finally started to do it the correct way. Yes, I agree. The Invisalman was pretty entertaining.
I didn't like absolutely love it, but I think it was definitely a great first, you know, attack at this universe again. And then watching this trailer again with you. This looks great. Like I'm a big fan of this. We're not this is not the last time we're going to see Christopher Abbott in a film. We'll see him later on in the year, but also Julia Gardner of Ozark fame, who will also see in Fantastic Four First Steps as Aaron. Want to Maxima this? No, Elizabeth. That's Elizabeth Olsen.
I'd be a silver surfer. I know. I'm just kidding. I don't know. I don't think she's going to be obviously. No, and right. think she's going to be the shallow ball version. The X version. No, it's supposed to show up in the film potentially anyway. Well, yeah, I mean, I don't know. We have no idea. I'm wearing a fantastic four shirt. Everybody had to ourselves. But yeah, I will say that like, Norn could show up.
But as of right now, Julie Gardner is slated to be the Silver Surfer, whatever actual character she ends up being. We don't know yet. But anyway, this looks good. Excited for this. January is sort of becoming and we'll talk about here in just a moment with another horror film. It's sort of becoming like the new horror month. Every every January is like, hey, What's a low budget horror that we haven't found a slot for in this year?
Let's throw it, just throw it in January, which is surprising and also refreshing because January used to be sort of a breeding ground of crap. Every studio would just throw their bull crap that they spent a ton of money on and don't, and don't like, they just go, okay, no one it's after Christmas. No one's going to the theater. It's cold outside throw in January, but now this looks like a pretty good slate overall. So up next, very excited for this one.
Again, speaking of horror films, we have presence directed by Steven Soderbergh. Steven Soderbergh directing his first horror film of Oceans fame. Also, ton of other films, but a family moves into a suburban house and becomes convinced they're not alone. Soderbergh returns to Park City with a film shot entirely in one location that will haunt audiences of its otherworldly and consistently all inspiring visuals working with the taut. What's a taut? T-A-U-T-A.
Maybe like a a tight like it's like taut is like tight. So it's like maybe like a very like condensed script. Sure. I mean, that makes sense. This feels like a lot of this is in camera and sort of personal and Aaron and I sort of, well, let me finish here. Mysterious script by Nope. And then featuring an exciting cast of known and unknown actors. Presence is a thrilling cinematic ride that reviles Soderbergh status as an icon in American independent film.
Yeah. Okay. Soderbergh is one of the best of all time. And I agree that it's like, it's one of those we sort of speculated and we don't know for a fact that this is from this perspective of the ghost in the house. They tout this as sort of a very unique haunted house film and sort of the camera angles and the way some of the shots are, set up. We're thinking this might be from the ghost perspective, right? Yeah, it's very, the, the camera work is very floaty. You're also standing there.
Like it's almost, I think the, this, the, perspective of the ghost is kind of intended to raise your anxiety. Like somebody's going to see you. It's almost like you're like peeping on someone in the shots. Yeah. So now it's supposed to make you uncomfortable from both perspectives. Like a the fact that this family is possibly going to see you and be like the fact that you're like just like you're an intruder, your presence in their home. Right. Right.
Next up, we got our next week of release, which is Janet. What? I'm just laughing at this next entry. January. I don't know if I'm interested or not. I can't tell you. Flight risk directed by Mel Gibson, which is the first red flag Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg plays a pilot transporting an air marshal. Michelle Dockery accompanying a fugitive Topher Grace to a trial as they cross the Alaskan wilderness. Tension, sore and trust is tested as not everyone aboard is who they seem.
And it's funny because I want to say it was predators with what was a Brody. Like one of the what is the name Brody something where Topher Grace was like the unassuming like serial killer. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah. That's what that reminds me of like this is like before he gets sucked up into some kind of portal and sent to predator planet, but this just looks silly. you got a you got a very balding, mark walberg in this and he's I didn't even see the trailer.
I was like, that fucking accent's gonna gonna go. Y'all need a Y'all need a pilot. They love that tagline that's on the poster. It's like the tagline underneath the in the trailer. It's the last line in the trailer. They're leading into whatever that is. So and of course, as you said, Mel Gibson directing this, not that Mel Gibson is a bad director. He's done some good stuff. Great directors. A terrible person. Terrible person. Really odd person also.
And this is also not the last time we'll see him in 2025. You think it's there to help? Instead of shoot you down. Damn it! Y'all need a pilot? So up next, January 31st, we have companion. This is directed by Drew Hadcock. Very excited for this, Aaron. This was a trailer that I saw on the in the front of I want to say might have been long legs a couple of months ago. And then I've seen a couple of times since then. But you were cordially invited to experience a new kind of love story.
New Line Cinema, the studio that brought you the notebook and the unhinged creators of Barbarian. Aaron, we covered that here on the show cordially invite you to experience a new kind of love story, the way. Yeah. This is this is good. I'm very excited for this. Of course, we've got a good look at Jack Quaid. I don't think I've seen him in a ton of movies. Obviously, he's from the boys and he's done a couple other things here and there.
But I will say what's most glaring perk of this film is Sophie Thatcher of Herrick fame recently of a twenty four. She's also in yellow jackets. She's great. Also very attractive. That's the side point. But she's also she seems like the headline in this film. And of course, again, the barbarian crew being in charge of this is very interesting. So the thing that throws me off, though, is that and I love it.
I think it's such a good strategy for this marketing of this movie is that it opens up with from the the the studio that brought you the notebook. Yeah, it's a violin in the background. Yeah. And it's like you think it's going to be like a shitty love story. And then all of a sudden it's like it just turns this again unhinged fucking batshit movie where it's watch the trailer people. It's insane. It looks crazy. We're moving into February now. That was all in January.
So we have a lot to look forward to just in January. But now we're moving into February. February 7th is Heart Eyes, directed by Josh Rubin. Two coworkers, Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding, are mistaken for a couple by a murderer in Seattle on Valentine's Day. Forced to evade the killer, they must navigate the city's romantic landscape while also working together to survive. And I didn't even know this movie was even a thing until a couple months, maybe like a month ago. I saw the poster for it.
in a real cinema is and was like, that looks stupid, but it's going to be, it's going be like a, what do call it? Like a, like a kitschy kind of murder movie. Yeah. It'll be just like your normal slasher. And I think it said it's from the producers of the scream franchise. So, love that. I think it looks good. I think this could be a really fun. This would be really fun. Valentine's day date night movie. It's got a Sam Raimi almost look to it slightly. Yeah, absolutely.
up next here again, on February 7th, we have love hurts directed by Jojo use of bio. Ki-Hee Kwan is back, stars as Marvin Gable, a realtor working in the Milwaukee suburbs. He receives a crimson envelope from Rose, Ariana DeBose, a former partner in crime that he had left for dead. She is not happy. Now Marvin is thrust back into the world of a ruthless hit man filled with double crosses and open houses turned into deadly war zones. This almost kind of feels like like an Amazon original film.
Did you get that vibe? yeah, it looks like this is like this feels exactly like a streaming movie. Yeah. And then we get a we get a look at Marshawn Lynch, former NFL running back in this movie as well. What is what is the fucking deal with getting him to star in like shows like he's he's like he was in Brooklyn 99. He was in like so many. He's just like, I don't know. He just he's and he just like subway commercials and shit. yeah. He's trying hard to sort of get into the zeitgeist.
He's also recently in bottoms. which is a good film from last year as well. So I, this one looks funny. I look, it looks enjoyable. Ki Hua Kuan is a, I love him. Damn Jim. Anything he does, I'll watch for sure. He's fucking national treasure. That's right. what's it? Bully blinders. so next up we got bring them down same day, February 7th, bring them down, directed by Chris Andrews. Michael played by Christopher Abbott.
This last son of a shepherding family lives with his ailing father, Ray Colm Meany. Burdened by a terrible secret, Michael has isolated himself from the world when a conflict with his rival farmer Gary Paul Reddy and also his son Jack Barry Keegan escalates. Michael is drawn into a devastating chain of events, forcing him to confront the horrors of his past and leaving both families permanently altered. I got none of this from the trailer. I still have no idea what this movie is about.
So I'm not super excited about it. It looks interesting. I like Barry Keegan, obviously, but... I can't tell you what this if this movie looks good or bad. It just looks weird. I'm conflicted because I really like Barry Kiyogan. I like a lot of things that he does. And again, there's Christopher Abbott, as we were saying earlier from Wolfman fame. But I like Saltburn a lot.
That was the last film that I saw Barry Kiyogan, obviously, he's in the Eternals and he was in the sacred killing of a deer and a lot of other films. But he also just cheated on Sabrina Carpenter, at least allegedly. So I'm conflicted, Aaron, because I'm a Carpenter fan. know, like I got to give these you got to give these singer something to fucking write about. That's true. If they don't get cheated on, what are they going to what how they act songs? Right. All right. Your name. All right.
Well, next we have our very first eight twenty four film of the year. We have Partha Nopi. This is directed by Paul. So are the no the Paulo Sorrentino. And we were what we watched this trailer before the recording today and we sort of compared. What do we compare it to? It was it looks like. Mamma Mia, my big fat Greek wedding and challengers had a baby. There it was. Yeah, it was challengers. And it was like it's like Italian challengers, everybody. It's just this beautiful woman.
Because forgive me again, Castelli, Dalaporta. She's the last. sorry. Celeste Dalaporta. There you go. That's that's correct. What you say. She's stunning in this. She looks like she was created in a lab somewhere. She is essentially just the way that I sort of viewed this film. And also it's Gary Oldman. in this film as well. It's just like, what is it like being beautiful and living your best life as a young person? That's not about right?
That's surprisingly apt for, yeah, that works perfectly. Yeah. Which is interesting because this takes place in the 1950s. So it's basically just 1950s Italy and what it's like to sort of be young, dumb and reckless. Is that what it's called? Yeah. But also just being like unnecessarily beautiful in the world, just giving you everything. Yes. Like you don't know who's really for you because you're given everything. Right. Let's move on to February. Sorry. Move on to the next one here.
A weird transition as well. Yeah. February 14th. Happy Valentine's Day. Go see a superhero movie. Captain America. see MCU. Let's go see MCU. That's that. This is finally a Valentine's Day gift for the men. That's right. All right. If your partner loves you, they will go take you to see Captain America. Brave new world. Hint hint. Big Red Harrison Ford.
Directed by Julius Ona. after meeting with newly elected US President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford, Sam, Anthony Mackie finds himself in the middle of an international incident, a mysterious attack. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot against the world leaders before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.
And I love this because I honestly I think that it should be mastermind in quotations because I honestly think that this is going to be a big plot made up by and I want to say his name is fuck now I can't think of Nelson, the leader. The leader, yeah. Yeah, from the Hulk. Yeah, he's in the film, everybody. He's already he's on the cast list. Yeah. Aaron, good, good guess there. That was a nice Mario, too, by the way. But here we go. Anyway, yeah, this is this is interesting.
Like and obviously everybody, as we said earlier, we are shills to the MCU. as Deadpool said last year, and this is the first MCU film since Deadpool Wolverine. Because that hairy thunder cunt from Down Under cunt finally dies and he's standing right behind me, isn't he? Welcome to the MCU, by the way. You're joining at a bit of a low point. And it's kind of up to Anthony Mackie, Harrison, Harrison Ford and crew to get the MCU back on track because Deadpool Wolverine was a freaking riot.
It was so much fun. And it was definitely riding the course in a way. I think Deadpool Wolverine had to kind of break the MCU a little bit. And then now it's it's back to now it's back to form. my God. It's still I still I need to watch it again. I fucking love that scene with Chris with Chris Evans when he's talking shit about. Yeah, Nova. my God. Anyways, we can talk just a second more about this one because we're not going to give a shit about the next movie.
But I want to say one thing that there's not a lot. of goodness that's that's in the cards right now for Captain America Brave New World because they just announced recently they're going through some more shoots. Some more. This is the third third time third time of reshoot. which these big movies do. I mean, they do reshoot. Every big blockbuster has reshoot. I know. But this is the third one. That's not good. That is not good.
That's like that's like that's almost as many directors as Blade has had. Right. Yeah, exactly. And like Speaking of Parthenopi, film we talked about before this, I guarantee just one of those reshoots cost more than that entire film. No doubt about it. What do you think about, you've seen the trailer where they basically they've reintroduced the celestial that's in the ocean there from the Eternals. We finally get a look at that. What are your thoughts on Harrison Ford's Red Hulk?
Do you like the way it looks? I'm waiting till the movie comes out to pass judgment on that because these days, especially with Marvel, you cannot, cannot put too much faith into the graphics or to the CGI or to the final outcome of what a character is gonna look like until the film. they already have my money. If they were to sell tickets right now, I'd buy one because I will be seeing this movie. I'm actually waiting for the Red Hulk number ones that I got signed near Comic-Con to come back.
So I'm hoping to get those before this fucking movie comes out. But yeah, I'm excited for it. You see that Liv Tyler's coming back from, from Hulk fame. Yeah. Yeah. I'm cautiously, I'm not, man. I don't even know. This last trailer was really good. It looks good. But again, like you said, there's just no way we cannot trust the MC right now, which really stinks to say, but like you just cannot trust them because you just never know.
Devil Wolverine could have totally been an anomaly because everything since then has been averaged to bad and that's not good. So let's move on here, Aaron, the next film, which you already said you're not really interested in. Are you going to say it? that Paddington in Peru? I was to let you have that one. But I'll say Paddington to Peru, man. Directed by you. You go over it. no, I'm sorry. You took Captain America. I apologize. Yeah. Paddington, Peru. This is directed by Dougal Wilson.
This is a new director. The first two Paddington films sort of unknown hits like people really love those films. But this one new director and with Wilson and. It just looks really silly and sort of nothing. I have not watched a single one. I've not watched like there's like there's been like Rintin 10 movies like some of these like I understand bringing back what's old is new again. But there's certain things you just leave in the fucking past, man.
And nobody gives a rat's ass about Paddington. Well, the first two by Paul King are pretty good, apparently. Like I've seen the first one. I haven't seen the second one, but it actually it wants some BAFTAs even. So anyway, I think you should at least check out the first two because I think they're really sweet, I guess. But outside of that. If you watch them, I'll watch them. OK, we'll watch them here on the show. We'll just do a whole episode. We watch Paddington one and two.
You just hear us react to that. OK, speaking of monkeys, Aaron, and we I think we've been dominated thus far of horror films. I want to say a large portion of the films we've talked about thus far have been horror films. What's the next one we have here in February? Well, you got the monkey man. February 21st, the monkey. I'm excited about this one. It's based off a short story by Stephen King, which you know, I love Stephen King books, but directed by Oz Perkins.
It's twin brothers Bill and how find their father's old monkey toy in the attic. And this is that monkey with the little symbols. Yep. The trailer's all clicky. monkey toy in the attic. series of gruesome deaths start the siblings decide to throw the toy away and move on with their lives growing apart over the years.
And to me, this movie looks like if, you know, Paul or was a Wes Anderson, if Wes Anderson were to make like a horror movie with a bunch of people dying, like just grotesquely, this would be it. I'm excited for it. Yeah, I don't think you really liked long legs. Did you? I still haven't finished it, but I didn't really like what I saw. I really liked it a lot. I went to salt and theaters and I really enjoyed it. Oz Perkins, I think one of the fresher voices in horror that we have currently.
So I think if nothing else, it will provide sort of a shit. It's sort of an interesting, well-made film. I, I get it. It's an acquired taste long legs. Like I don't blame anybody who doesn't like it, but I think it's definitely still worth it. you know, seeking out and at least trying for yourself. in there. Have you been up there? It's like that restaurant. Spaghetti City. Everything okay up there? Yeah, everything's fine.
Up next to your last day of February, we've got Legends of Ochie, which is directed by Isaiah Saxon. This is the second eight twenty four film of twenty twenty five and remote northern village. A young girl, Yuri, is raised to never go outside after dark in fear of the reclusive forest creatures known as Ochies. When a baby Ochie is left behind by its pack, she embarks on an adventure of a lifetime. You reunite it with its family. This looks really sweet.
This is a twenty fours, I think, sort of first attempt to make like a children's whimsy. fantasy film. The budget is in the film. You can see it. It's obviously not a $200 million Marvel film, but it definitely is a lot more than the typical 70, 50 to $70 million. A 24 film, Wilm Dafoe being in the film as well. It's pretty cool. You've also got the kid from it and, stranger things. What's his name? I'm forgetting his name now. I think it looks exciting.
it reminds me of, again, it's kind of a mix of, I'm not going to say the goonies, but kind of Gremlins. The Ochi looks like a kind of like a Gremlin Magwai looking thing. It's interesting because it looks like it's meant to be in like almost like a Norway, like a Finnish, like some kind of Netherlands village. But, know, when Willem Dafoe comes out, he's got like this armor on and it very much feels almost how to train your dragons.
So it's like, it's got so many different like feelings of these fantastic worlds already built into it. There's a there's a animated show that was on I think it's called like Greta or something like that that was super cute and it was like where she dealt with like like these Kind of fantastic creatures where everybody else was kind of afraid of them Sure, it has this has that same feel but in like a live-action like almost like Gravity Falls type thing It looks it looks very awesome.
I'm excited for it. Yeah, I was thinking of Finn Wolfman earlier by the way and yeah Yeah. But also I want to say it's interesting. This is Isaiah Saxon's first feature film. Yeah. And actually we haven't really gone through it, but I think a lot of these early films in 2025 are being directed by first time directors. So I think that's really interesting. I like I sort of like that idea. More voices out there, of course.
And the next film that comes out on February 28th, I sort of pre warned you before we watched the trailer that it was going to destroy you. Was I correct in my assumption? Yeah. Yeah. There's only one thing that I did want to say about the legend of Ochi. And it was I told I'm Zawa. It kind of reminds me a little bit of Zawa. Okay. Yeah. That's like, I can see that. Anyway, sorry. Sorry.
but yeah, my friend, my, my dead friend, Zoe, which again, these are two movies that I'm excited about releasing on my birthday. My different Zoe is directed by Kyle Houseman Stokes. my different Zoe is a dark comedy drama that follows the journey of merit. A U S army Afghanistan veteran who is at odds with their family. Thanks to the presence of Zoe, her dead best friend from the army.
Now this is kind of an interesting look because at first you're like, you know, is she suffering from like PTSD? Is she having like kind of like, is this like a, like a mental thing that she's kind of a coping mechanism for a friend that she'd lost while she was deployed? Because when you're first watching the trailer, it's like her and, and Zoe at this support group for veterans. And then you find out that, that Zoe is not seen by anybody but Merritt.
I know that when I watch this, it's going to be a hard thing to watch because there's going to be a lot of, you know, drummed up feelings about loss. And I'm, I'm excited. I'm excited. I'm really, a, looks like it's going to be a really like touching, but funny, like good, good time feel movie. Yeah. Agreed. I'm very excited for this. This is one that I'm definitely going to watch in theaters.
Of course, Morgan Freeman being in it, but also Ed Harris, looks, it looks like he's, mean, both, both of those guys, two, two of our more seasoned actors, two of our greatest actors of all time. They're getting up there, man. I, I don't want to like put this in the universe, but I don't think we're going to have either one of them very long, both of them for very long. So I think seeing them in these films is just really cool. Next film.
This is one I think you're maybe like backwards excited about because of a certain actor in it. But Paul W.S. Anderson is back on his bullshit coming in here with in the lost lands. Now, Aaron, this is actually this is going to be adapted from a George R.R. Martin short story. Did you know that? I just like looked into it. And yeah, I'm I'm I'm adding this to my list of definitely to watch is because, my girl's in it. Yeah. Amelia Jovovich is going to be in it.
She's going to costar in it with Dave Bautista. So. Color me interested, I will say, you know, based on those two being in it. But a sorceress travels into the lost lands in search of a magical power that allows a person to transform into a werewolf. So this has apparently been to be been in development for many years. And it's just now finally being sort of put into production. So Paul W. Sanderson. God, what a terrible filmmaker. I'm just I'm not I don't like anything he does.
Even the movies that are like good accidentally. are still bad. They just are fun to watch. I'm thinking of like Resident Evil and things like that. So, man. So this guy like literally has written. He has created my guilty pleasure list, you know, you talk about Paul W.S. Anderson. Yeah, I I love Resident Evil. I the movies are so bad, but they're so good. Death Race. Sure. Monster Hunter. Monster Hunter was terrible, but I still I really enjoyed it. But he loves. Wait. Aren't they?
Are they married? Is that who her husband? Yeah, they're married to each other. That's why. OK, that makes more sense now. Yeah, I was like, let me just really quick. Let me just go through his films over the last 22 years. Resident Evil. Give me a bomber bop. Ready? Here we go. Bomber bop. So Resident Evil 2002. Alien versus Predator. Hmm. Bomb. That's not even a question for me. Resident Evil Apocalypse. Bomb. Resident Evil Extinction. But here's the thing. I loved them.
They're terrible, but I love them. For me, they're bops. OK, death race. Bob, Bob, that's a Bob for me. Rez Evil Afterlife. Death Race 2 Bob Resident Evil Retribution Bob, we're just trading back Death Race 3 Inferno. Resident Evil, the final chapter. No, Bob Death Race 4 Beyond Anarchy. Never saw it. So it's probably a bomb and then Monster Hunter. That was definitely a bomb, but I enjoyed it. Okay. All right. Anyway, let's move on. God, he has a fucking type. Yeah, clearly. All right.
Next up, we go into March. Finally with this one looks fucking awesome. Very excited. one. Sinners directed by Ryan Coogler, the Coug. Coug is at it. The Cougs at it again, trying to leave their troubled lives behind. Twin Brothers played by Michael B. Jordan returning to their hometown to start again, which obviously I love anytime an actor can play twins. Only discovered that an evil greater even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back. This looks just Amazing.
You said like dust till dawn kind of vibes a little bit. Yes I call this from dust till dawn black black edition Yeah, I think it looks awesome. It's like it has a very If you ever watch any of the show Was it the not that the it was the one I was like the Cthulhu show Lovecraft Country? Lovecraft. Yeah, Lovecraft Country. Like this has like a feel like it's almost like the 1940s, 1930s, like the whole gangster era. He and God damn Michael B. Jordan just looks fucking looking like a whole snack.
Yeah. He's just like he needs fire this Tommy gun like the trailer looks phenomenal. Yeah, absolutely. This looks really, really good. I'm glad that Ryan Coogler is getting away from the IP stuff, the the Creeds, the Black Panthers, all the way. You know, again, I like a lot of those films. I'm glad to see Ryan Kugler actually out here doing something original. Real quick question, speculatory here. What do you think they're fighting throughout the night?
mean, I think it's either like the devil or it's vampires. You keep dancing with the devil. He's gonna follow you home. All right. Moving on to March 14th, we have Black Bag. This is being again directed by Stephen Soderbergh. It's the second film of the year. This is a spy drama. Not a lot known of this one yet, but you know, Stephen Soderbergh is a producer of Absolute Bangers. Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, Pierce Brosnan, Naomi Harris. It's a good looking cast. Stacked cast.
Yep. Absolutely. Let's move into one that I think, Aaron, you're pretty interested in. This is Electric State. This is going to be a Netflix original film. We don't have a ton of streaming movies on this list, but when you got a film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and also stars Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt. Yeah, there's a game that this actually reminded me.
I thought it was actually kind of a trailer originally for a video game called The Outer Worlds, but this is called The Electric State on Netflix directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. It's a spectacular adventure set within an alternate retrofuturistic version of the 90s. Millie Bobby Brown stars as Michelle and... Michelle.
An orphan teen navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots who once served peacefully among humans now live in exile following a failed uprising. Everything she thinks she knows about the world is upended when she's visited by Cosmo, a sweet mysterious robot who appears to be controlled by Christopher, her genius younger brother, whom she thought was dead. It to me it's it sounds like it's gonna be like it's gonna be a troubled like complex Movie.
Yeah, that's why it's going to Netflix because it maybe was supposed to be a bigger thing, but it's kind of very much again a Problematic plot maybe too many things are kind of mashed into it. It looks visually Awesome. Yeah, I'd say it looks pretty good. Like there's a lot of potential so it could be good I don't know Millie Bobby Brown isn't known for signing up for projects that don't do well and recently she's been on kind of like a streaming kick with a lot of Netflix stuff.
damsel was one that was, thought was really good. Billy, Billy, Billy, Billy Bobby Brown has just been cashing that Netflix check since the beginning of her career. All of her films for the most part outside of like Godzilla and maybe like one other thing has been on Netflix. listen to this cash really quick though. So it's obviously Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, course, Ki-Hee Kwan is back. Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci, Woody Norman.
plus Anthony Mackie's back in this one, Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate and Alan Tudyk. I was assuming they would be voicing a lot of the robots in this film. yeah, it looks pretty good. Now, speaking of things that don't look good coming out on March 21st, we've got Disney's Snow White. This is being directed by Mark Webb. He's the one who did the amazing Spider-Man Sony films. This looks terrible, Aaron. I'm not at all excited for this. This movie is just... as doomed from Jump Street.
Now, not only does it look bad, and you know, we just saw what a good musical could look like with Wicked. This is $300 million crap is what it looks like, essentially. You got Rachel Ziegler, which, you you got the incels already mad that she's a, you know, Hispanic actor playing a normally white character. They're of course mad about that, which is stupid, but they are. Then you got... You know, Rachel Ziegler, who is a notorious Palestine supporter, and you've got Gal Gadot, who is Israeli.
So like that's there's that, of course, not to mention Gal Gadot. Terrible actor like beautiful. Yes. Great actor. Absolutely not. She's proven it time and time again that if she's not in an Amazonian suit, she shouldn't be in the film personally. That's my opinion. And then. It's just CGI throw up. Like everything that I was nervous about with Wicked with that first trailer is the same thing I'm worried about with this ten times folded. Not to mention all of the dwarves are completely CGI.
Why didn't they just hire dwarf actors for these films? Like it's it's insane to me. So what are your thoughts on this? man. So I think if there's a movie that deserved to be remade and I don't mean the last like 13 versions of it would be Snow White. simply because in its origin, Snow White has always been very problematic with racism, just lack of being considerate to people, again, dwarfs. There's like a lot of stuff that's problematic with Snow White. in general, this is just, I don't know.
I don't know if it's gonna be good at all. I don't feel... It could be, it could be amazing, like in my opinion, there's already been so many problematic reboots and re and tries with this. Like to be honest, they, I don't know if you watched, once upon a time there was a show, think it was ABC. think it was ABC, but that was like the woman who paid played Snow White in that movie was phenomenal. She killed, she is a fucking stepmother queen, whatever, like evil, evil queen. She is.
Perfect at that character as that character. I don't see gal Gadot really I can't take her serious. I cannot take her serious. I can't so to me it's just it's whatever. Yeah, and also like Rachel Ziegler said in an interview back in April she hated the original 1937 film and branded the story weird saying that the stalker like Prince Prince charming character who steals a kiss from the girl in a coma could get could not who could not give consent consent. My God. Okay. Like, okay.
I obviously agree with those things but like We're talking about a cartoon from the late thirties cult like our culture was in a wildly different place and there are ways to modernize the story as well. Also, that's not the fucking point of the movie. So I don't know. It's just everything about this feels doomed. And we have a question at the end of this episode that this will be the obvious answer for me with that. I want.
OK, so if you were to remake this and you were to like do a modern tone to it, how? How is he supposed to wake her up? Like, he supposed to like, excuse me? Excuse me. Pardon me. Excuse me. Miss, Miss White. Yeah. Can I kiss you to wake you up from this coma? Do I have full consent to have full consent to wake you up from this coma? And then like she just lays there because she can't give consent. So yeah, that's the whole spell. Like that's how you break the spell.
There's no, there's no loopholes. I'm sorry. It's just like, you got to break the spell, but like I get it at the same time. I get it. But it's like, What she's saying is not incorrect, but you're just wholeheartedly missing the point of the wonder. Snow White. it's magic. Okay, right March 28th. We got a movie coming out Levin's trade directed by David Ayer Ayer, Ayer.
Levin Cade left his profession behind to work construction and be a good dad to his daughter But when a local girl vanishes, he's asked to return to the skills that made him a mythic figure in the shadowy world of counterterrorism Now we don't really have too much going on this writers Chuck Dixon If if am I correct to think that that's the same Chuck Dixon that created fucking Bane? Yeah, it's a comic book writer. And also who's the other writer on this, Aaron?
Sylvester Stallone, man. Starting Jason Statham, Michael Pena and David Harbour. this is, mean, I don't know. Interesting. I'm not going to, I'm not going to, I'm not going to poop on it. Yeah. Well, you know, what is interesting, Aaron, also is in April, April 4th, we have the Minecraft. That's not interesting. Now listen, Aaron and I, we've been known to craft here and there. We're not above a craft. We've crafted a mine or two. From time to time, a mine. Sorry, not nevermind. Anyway, yeah.
This looks really bad, like really, really bad, like historically bad. They take everything we just said about snow, the Snow White film and how bad that looks. This looks equally as bad and also doesn't help that the cast is not great either. That said, I'm still going to go see it because I love Minecraft. So they win, I guess. I don't know. You know, the cast includes Emma Myers. Danielle, Brooke, Sebastian, Eugene, Hansen, Jennifer Coolidge, Jack Black and Jason Momoa.
Of course, Jennifer Coolidge is going to be a Jesus. Wow. Wow. Wow. Is that a are these cubes? Is that a creeper? Is that a creeper? You sound like little Mickey. My chicken is fucking awesome. Minecraft is fucking awesome. Aaron, OK, April 11th. Here's one that this is a Minecraft is basically reverse Jumanji, by the way. Yeah, exactly. It's just the same story as Jumanji. But yeah. And Jack Black. But different somehow.
But April 11th, this is a film that this is a little peek behind the curtain, everybody. When I sat Aaron down to look over all these movies, he was like, this movie looks crap. Whatever. We watch the trailer, Aaron. Now, what are your thoughts? Man, this movie looks fucking insane. April 11th, the amateur directed by James Hawes. All right. Charlie Heller played by Rami Malik, Rami Rami Rami. Right. Rami Malek, yeah.
Potato potato is a brilliant but deeply introverted decoder from the CIA working out of a basement at headquarters in Langley, whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in London in a London terrorist attack. His supervisors refuse to take action. He takes matters in his own hands and bark on a dangerous track across the globe to track down those responsible, his intelligence serving as the ultimate weapon for eluding his pursuers and achieving his revenge.
This trailer is an unassuming bop. I don't know if kids say that these days, but it looks awesome. You know, we say here on the Abloving Bar, bop, it's a bop. I'm excited for it. Rami Malek is an amazing actor. know, Mr. Robot. Bohemian Rhapsody. Bohemian Rhapsody. He has done so well and I'm excited to see him in this role because again, yeah, he plays kind of like this odd. This is, mean, to me, this is the same character that he played a little bit in Mr. Robot. So he's got it down packed.
but to see him take that next step into being, there's like a scene in the trailer where he's like on the roof and he's like approaching this guy in a pool and it's almost exactly like episode one of the arrow. So it's like, failed the city. So I just, find it funny, I honestly, this is potentially one of my most like anticipated. When we get to that part of the list, that will be on it. Yeah, we got a Laurence Fishburne in this one. Also, Rachel Brosnahan and Jon Bertholdt. He really like so.
Yes. What did I say in the beginning? I was like, it's going to be like the fucking Punisher. Right. Because because he's like he was almost like the what's his name? Microchip. Yeah. Charlie, I think you need to see this. What is this? Your wife has been killed. What you do is very important to what we do. Let us handle this. I want mission specific training, cash and a new identity. Have you lost your mind? I want to find and kill the people who murdered my wife.
I don't think you could beat a 90 year old nun in an arm wrestling match. April 18th, we got Mickey 17 directed by Bong Ju Ho. This has been essentially delayed into oblivion. This was originally supposed to come out Aaron in 2022. and we are now getting it in 2025. So I have been waiting for this one for a long time. Yeah. And, know, I'm not really that nervous on the surface. Delaying movie three years sounds really bad and maybe it was at some point, but I trust Bong Ju Ho.
I think he made an incredible film a couple of years ago. He's made a couple of really good films, but especially Parasite from a couple of years ago. I think I want to say it was 2019. Very, very good. Obviously, Robert Pattinson being in this film doesn't hurt either. I just excited for this. I've seen a couple of trailers for it that Frank Sinatra soundtrack in the background helps a ton. Steven Yuan's in this, Tony Collette, Mark Ruffalo, Steve Park. Like this is going to be good.
I honestly have no doubt that this is going to be a really not even a sleeping giant. think people are just excited for this. I'm pumped for it simply because, know, again, Bong Joon-ho at the helm. I've loved Snowpiercer is one of my top movies. He is and the fact that he did the show as well. He did the host, which was okay. Parasite, which was, you know, an insane ride. Yeah. So it's Mickey 17 has been one that has been on my radar for since 2022. And I've been excited for it.
And the fact that, that Robert Pattinson is a surprisingly amazing actor. Not even surprisingly. He's a freaking, he's a chameleon. This dude has been, you know, we've talked about this before, maybe even during our Batman, our Batman review from a couple of years ago. Is that like, He's been like very unfairly put into his Twilight corner. But since Twilight and all the work that he's done in a 24 with like the Safi brothers and everything since he's incredible.
Like he's he's just a really he's one of our best actors working. I don't even think about him in the topic of Twilight anymore. Like he has outgrown that role to where he's known for other things, which is honestly for anybody. That is an accomplishment. He and Kristen Stewart both have evolved completely from that from that original. Twilight. That's very true. And I never thought so much more of Kristen Stewart and I'm so glad that she did like outgrow that. So absolutely.
Next up, I'm kind of sad that I got stuck with this one, but I'm going read about it anyways. The Passion of Christ Resurrection Chapter One, directed by Mel Gibson Shocker sequel to The Passion of Christ. Quick question. Why isn't this like Passion of Christ Chapter Two? or part two, the Passioner of Christ. The passions of Christ. passions of Christ. Mark two. This should be the Passion of Christ Resurrection dash chapter one, colon. He has risen. Semi colon. Get ready. It's Mel Gibson again.
Book of Job. The Passion of Christ. Electric Boogaloo. I want the Snyder cut of the Passion of Christ Resurrection dash chapter one. Hey, everybody. Quick. Spoiler, Aaron and I, neither one of us are religious. Obviously Mel Gibson is a psychopath and the first one was terrible. So take that for what you will. Aaron, I once asked a girl out in middle school to go on a date with me and she, she, well, she said yes, but she goes, can I take my dad? And I was like, that's weird, but sure.
And then when we showed up there, I didn't know what movie, I didn't care what movie we were going to see. I brought my friend with me and we get there and she's like, okay, we're to see passion of the Christ. And I'm like, okay. Did you go to her church? She or her and her father were very much in the church. Did you did you go to church and meet her there at church? No, I well, no, she was just a person of my class. And talk about one of the most uncomfortable movie settings I've ever been in.
That being said, I will not be seeing this in theaters and I do not care about it. Did you get a did you get a H.J. during the crash of the Christ and H.J. for J.C. right there in the theater. Dad in the in the back row. Everybody in that theater was crying, but my friend and I, it was very as a weird situation. You were crying because it was a sad hand show. She was crying too. All righty. Up next we have on April 25th, the accountant number two.
This is Gavin O'Connor returns for the sequel of the 2016 film Ben Affleck. And who else is in this film? J.K. Simmons was in the original. Jon Bernthal is back again for this one as well. So did you ever see that first account? Yeah, it was great. I recently was guest appearing on. I used to like this one with you know, Sean over there and we, did a review, like kind of like a rewatch of reindeer games.
And it's amazing how bad that movie is, but it's amazing how good Ben Affleck has gotten over the years. absolutely. Yeah. He, mean, I think Ben is just, he is always sad because he's just constantly getting divorced from people. But that's out of that when he's not chain smoking, he's making really good Hollywood films. So that's true. Yeah. But yeah, I, the first accountant was amazing. He like that movie. Man, it was so good.
So next up we have, and I want to say, I'm gonna look this up real quick because Until Dawn, a group spends the weekend in a ski lodge on the anniversary of their friend's disappearance, unaware that they are not alone. This is directed by David F. Sandberg. I don't know if this is gonna be, cause there's a game Until Dawn, which I believe is a zombie game, but this one is, know, again, anniversary of their friend's disappearance. So it might be like a murder thing. It might be a mystery thing.
My who knows drama horror. David Sandberg is known for movies like Shazam. He did both Shazam films. did lights out Annabelle. didn't I hated lights out. already know that. Well, so I'm not like really sure how I feel about this one. David S. Sandberg, the reason why he's so interesting because I like the first Shazam film. The second one's an atrocity. But the reason why I like his sort of career arc is that he put out a YouTube.
Short of lights out the original lights out that he he threw up on youtube and someone got wind of it And then they just went and created it at a studio. So he started his career just uploading stuff on youtube I just think that's really cool So I want him to succeed even though I only like maybe a quarter of his films I will say that like I want him to do well and this this looks at least interesting. So it is it is based off the game It is okay until done.
I'm not familiar with the actual game itself. Yeah, it's pretty much the the same exact thing where again, it's the same exact summary. supernatural horror slasher, teen horror, action, comedy, drama. Yeah. Well, going into May, we're getting into the summer time frame now. We've got on May 2nd Thunderbolts, Aaron, we got our second MCU film directed by Thunderbolts asterisk. Astrid. Yeah, the asterisk there. Jake Shriver.
A world without the Avengers doesn't mean there's not a group of superheroes. There's a group and their name is the Thunderbolts asterisk. A group of supervillains from the MCU. are recruited to go on missions for the government. Again, you've got Red Guardian, you've got- Suicide Squad. You've got Ghost, you've got Winter Soldier, you've got Yelena Belova, you've got US Agent, you've got Taskmasters in there somewhere, you've got Sentry, you've got Madam Hydra, a lot of cool stuff.
I'm excited for it. What are you more excited for? Are you more excited for Captain America or this? It's a toss up. It's 50-50. Really? There's no winner there? There's no winner there. Like I'm, I am super excited for- Captain America, but I'm concerned. don't really have too much faith in Thunderbolts, but I'm excited for the potential of it, which raises it. So, so Captain America is dropped down by that unsharedness and then Thunderbolts is raised up by that excitement.
Sure. Yeah, I'm more excited for this, but just sort of barely. I don't know. You know, obviously I have a detachment of the Captain America character. I like Anthony Mackie in the role of the new Cap, you know, new Cap, but This just, think Thunderbolts just looks a lot more interesting. And I like the idea of having Sentry in this universe. And I kind of want to know what Madam Hydra is sort of putting the team up against and why they all have to sort of band together. So yeah.
Assignment is 08. Hang on. The assignment is complete. What kind of super serum did you get? I don't know. Regular. Hydra. Hydra? fancy. Who's this old Santa? May 9th, you got a big, bold, beautiful journey coming up directed by Coco Nata, an imaginative tale of two strangers and the unbelievable journey that connects them. Now, writer is Seth Rice, star is Colin Farrell, Margot Robbie. and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Yeah. Did you ever see After Yang, a 24 film?
No, I don't think I've heard of that one. It's very good. He also directed that one as well. So the cast is incredible, as you just said a moment ago. That's mostly the reason why I wanted to bring it up. the next one here going into May 23rd, Lilo and Stitch live action, Dean Fleischer, Camp. I don't care about Disney remakes, Aaron. I'm done with them. Snow white this I don't want any of it. It all looks bad.
Lilo and Stitch looks bad Moana to live action being filmed why the kid by the animated one or live was it live action Moana being filmed while Moana to is in theaters. So it's that that right there is is gluttony. It's it's fucking the death of culture. Anyway, moving on. I'm excited for Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning, which is May 23rd also directed by Christopher McQuarrie. Dun dun dun dun dun. A continuation of the iconic Mission Impissable series following Ethan Hunt.
Formerly, I'm just going to leave that one in there. Just keep it going. Impissable. Formerly of the IMF or the Impossible Mission Force and the conclusion following Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning part one. Impissable. Impissable. Yep. I am excited for this because A, I like resolution. I finally want the ending to Dead Reckoning. I'm not going to lie. I fucking love.
I love a good Tom Cruise movie and in Mission Impossible is one of those series that's been a hit after hit after hit after hit after hit. And I love it. Even with what's his name? Shotgun Fist. No, I love that. Henry Cavill. Yeah, it's one of those things where like if this was to go for another three or four films, this would be on the same track as the Fast and Furious. And I mean that in like a positive way, because just like the Fast and Furious, the second one is the worst one.
But everyone, the first one and everything after that is pretty good until you get to the later ones. but for this, like the, dead reckoning was pretty good. Right. And then this one looks really good. I'm just wondering what they're going to do with Tom Cruise. Like are they going to put them on ice? Like if he's not out doing crazy stunts, what good does he have to the world outside of Scientology? The only other thing, I mean, he's got a lot, I'm sure in the, in the, in the back.
The only other thing I'm going to say about this, at least with Mission Impossible. There's like there are like realistic ties to what's possible in this in the movies, unlike Fast and the Furious, which they go to fucking space. OK, next. It's pure fiction. Like it is like at least the Fast and excuse me, at least Mission Impossible franchise has like at least like a hand on the wheel of reality, whereas Fast and Furious has completely just jumped the shark. So May 30th, Karate Kid Legends.
Aaron, are you? as a kid of the 80s, are you all excited to return to the karate kid verse? I am not excited at all. saw the I saw the the poster for it I'm like, Did you watch Cobra Kai on YouTube? No, I have not. It's pretty good, actually. I like it. I'm just wondering if they're going to have any of the you know, any of the other actors. It doesn't like on IMDB. They don't list any of the Cobra Kai people in that film. But we do get Ralph Macchio back. Jackie Chan is back now.
Here's my question. Is this the melding of the both karate kids? Because Jackie Chan was the the Han of was it one of the one of the Will Smith's kids? Yeah, Jaden Smith, Jaden Smith. Obviously, Ralph Macchio is the original karate kid. I wonder if this is like a melding of those two worlds. Yeah, I I don't know. I don't care. I don't care. No. All right. So now June 6th from the world of John Wick, Ballerina directed by Len Wiseman.
Young female assassin known as Eve seeks revenge against the people who killed her family taking place around the same time as the events of John which chapter 3 parallel Bellum the movie follows Eve Macaro Anna de Armas who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma now I thought I saw this one in They already did it. It was called what's called black widow. Are you talking about the TV series on on peacock? I thought you're talking about something else.
Okay. Yeah, you talk about okay Yeah, yeah, or you can do do sparrow the movie with Jennifer Lawrence in it Yeah. There was another one that wasn't it was, it was Hannah. yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What's your relationship to the John Wick franchise? Because I don't know if it's a hot take for me to not really love the John Wicks. I liked the first one quite a bit.
And then it seems like every subsequent sequel I've become, I apologize to everybody that this hurts, but I get bored by each sequel after it is a hot take. You love them. I don't love them. I do enjoy them quite a bit. They recently had a show called the Continental. Yes, that's the one on Peacock. And that one, I haven't watched that one yet, but I was interested in watching that one. There was also another movie that was very much kind of like a ripoff and Batista was in it.
It's kind of like a takeoff of, it's like a ripoff, but it's in a hotel. It's very much Continental-esque with assassins in it. So. I saw that movie and like they all kind of feel very similar, but I enjoy the genre. I enjoy the John Wick series. So for me, it's it's you know, I'm not excited for the show. I don't give a crap about a ballerina. I care about Keanu Reeves kicking ass. That's all I care about. So on a day, Armis doesn't pull you into this one. No. OK. Yeah. I mean, either.
Which is interesting because I love her, but she has just been in like too many bad things recently that I just don't care. Like even the movie that she was in with Chris Evans from Apple TV, I think it's like crashed or something was really, really bad. So. Let's get into June 13. We have Pixar's Elio. This is directed by Adrian Molina, who was the co-director of Coco.
We have Madeline Sharafian, who was the director of Burroughs Spark Short and Domi Shi, who was director of Turning Red and The Bowshort. So this is the Pixar film for this year. 11 year old dreamer Elio is artistic, creative and avid endorsement who finds it hard to fit in with others around him. Meanwhile, mom Olga, who runs a top secret military project, is working a is working to decode a strange alien signal from outer space.
But Elio makes contact first and he gets beamed up into space and subsequently mistaken for an intergalactic ambassador for Earth in this original animated adventure. Gauge your excitement here with this one, Aaron. Are we back with Pixar? I don't know. Like, I really haven't been a Pixar fan for a while, I don't think. I couldn't really tell you one of the real like last things that I've watched, but. This one looks cute. I might check it out. Here are the last 123456 films, seven films.
Okay. Bop or bop? Bop Bop or bop bop? Last eight films. You ready? Joy Story 4. But didn't see it. Onward. BOM. Soul? BOP. Yeah. Luca? Didn't see it. Okay. Turning red. BOP. Lightyear? I liked it. For me, that was a BOP. Okay. Elemental? Didn't see it. Heard it was good. Heard it was good. Yeah. Inside out too. I didn't see it. Made a billion dollars, but seems like that's mostly positive, which is odd because it seems like I'm also feeling kind of sour on on Pixar overall.
That's thing is like, at what point did we lose our Pixar love? Since 2015, inside out. Good. Good dinosaur. OK. Finding Dory. OK. Cars 3. Not good. Cocoa. Amazing. Yeah. Travels 2. Good. Toy Story 4. Good. Onward. OK. Sol. Good. So like they're not. I think it's just because they went from banger after banger. It's like the MCU. Like they went banger after banger after banger. And then now it's like sort of mixed. Some are good. Some are okay. Some are just bad.
Their genre used to be like cute and whimsical and beloved. And now it's just like, it's all over the place. Now it's like death and emotions. It's like, do you think it has anything to do with the fact that, you know, you've got like dream works is doing a lot of good work. You've got, Why am I spacing Minions? What's the name of their company? Illumination. There you go. Illumination. Yeah. So like there's other studios doing really good work.
Yeah. And also mentioned like Disney Animation is doing pretty good stuff too. So maybe it's just Pixar doesn't really have a monopoly on the industry. That might be what it is. Yeah. And you know, speaking of DreamWorks, Aaron, go into the next one here and I'll just tell everyone off the top. Not excited for this one. Yeah. And I'll tell you after Aaron goes over it. We are of two minds in this one. How to Train Your Dragon directed by Den DeBlois. Dean de Blas. Dean de Blas.
De Blas. Blas. De Deanne de Blas. Dean de One of those is something. Something's going to stick on the rugged Isle of Burke, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations. Hiccup Mason Thames stands apart the inventive yet overlooked son of the chief stoic, the vast Gerard Butler reprising his role from the movies. Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon.
Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons challenging the very foundations of Viking society. Does that sound familiar to you, Yeah, it's the same movie they've been. It's the first movie. It is exactly that. And literally. OK, listen, if Disney can fucking do it with every single Disney shouldn't do it either. They should stop doing this. I hate this so much. This is my least favorite trend in modern cinema.
You know, like sometimes they get me every once in they'll get me and I'm not sure. If this is one that's going to get me because I do like how to your dragon a lot I think those three films are pretty spectacular Really? I mean you could honestly make a pretty decent argument for one of the greatest trilogies of all time I just don't it's it's too early after the originals. We already have great a great trio of films Why do we need this live?
It can only be worse There's this is not gonna be better than the first movie mark it down right now Put this message in a bottle and then open it back up when this movie comes out June 13th, this is not gonna be better than the first one I could see it being a problem and I could see it not being a problem for them to have maybe You know done a a sequel.
Yeah of sorts and made that like the next one in the series But you know again, I'm not gonna knock it till I see it cuz I'm again I'm the one who's excited here for it It's okay. I won't hurt you. Toothless looks good though. Yeah. No J. Bear shall. Why isn't he back? He's the only one that's not back. What the hell? Cause he's not 14 anymore. He's 49. Yeah. He was like 29 when he took the role even. But, okay. So June 20th here, we've got 28 years later being directed by Danny Boyle.
This is essentially just the third film, the long awaited third installment in the 28 days later franchise. Kelly and Murphy is set to be back, but the plot is still pretty unknown. so more 28 days later. That's a deal. And of course, Danny Boyle coming back to direct as he did the first two, no complaints on my end. So yeah, I'm happy with this. I'm excited for that one. According to sources, this film was shot on an iPhone, iPhone 15 pro max. what?
Making history as the largest movie ever filmed using a smartphone. No kidding. Starring Aaron Taylor Johnson of Ralph Fiennes, Jodie Comer, and then Killier Murphy. Now I feel sad like reading on this one because I know this is one that you're super excited about, but I'm gonna go ahead and just cover it anyways. F1, June 27th, F1 is being released, directed by Joseph Kosinski.
Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt, a Formula One driver who raced in the 90s, has a horrible crash forcing him to retire from Formula N and start racing in other disciplines. A Formula One team owner and friend contacts Hayes and asks him to come out of retirement to mentor rookie prodigy Joshua Pierce, played by Damson Idris. I wonder if he's related to Idris Elba. Last name, first name, different. Whatever. On the Apex Grand Prix team. You know, and I'll say this, I saw Gran Turismo.
I really fucking love that movie. And you said like, you're excited for this one. So yeah. OK. What did you think you saw the trailer for before we started recording? It's just Top Gun with F1 cars. That's all it is, everybody. And you know what? It's Joseph Kaczynski who did Top Gun Maverick and Tron Legacy. So, you know, I'm going to trust Joseph Kaczynski until he proves me wrong. I'll see it. I'll watch it.
And this will be this would probably be a really cool one to see on like a big screen. Definitely. This was filmed with IMAX cameras. Brad Pitt has been all over the world doing like actual driving. So he's basically just doing the Tom Cruise of it all. You get a little Javier Bardem in the trailer as well, which is exciting. yeah, I mean, again, if it's just if it's literally just Top Gun Maverick, but with Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem and F1 cars.
I'm in like I'm fucking you have my money and I'll go see it four times. So up next year we have my three again. Two point or just Megan directed by Gerald's Gerald Johnston. This is going to be sequel to 2020's Mithrigan, which made a shit ton of money and was pretty bad. So what gave your excitement with that one? I don't know what they're going to do if they if tick tock gets banned and nobody can do the Megan dance on tick tock. Right. It's already banned. Yeah, we're screwed.
All the marketing is out the window. So I don't know. Megan was surprisingly a fun like watch. Yeah, it was OK. It was like, I don't know. It wasn't great by far, but it was was surprisingly fun. So it came out a perfect time. It came out in like early 2020 when people had nothing. Literally, it's like this Tiger King. They both were so popular because it was the only stuff that was on.
Also, I think not that this wasn't good, but also squid games like there are certain things that just thrived during that time. Okay, we're moving to July, July 2nd, Jurassic World Rebirth, another one. Okay, hold on real quick before you get into this, don't look at anything here. Do you want another Jurassic World? Just off the just like no. Forward facing. don't want any more Jurassic anything. Okay, Jurassic. don't want it. Bet you're Jurassic. I don't want none of this.
Go into some of the details here and then tell me if the change is at all. Okay, directed by Gareth Edwards. Five years post. Sorry. What do know him from? I don't. He did. He did Godzilla. The newish one. Rogue One. And he did the creator. Remember the creator from last year? OK, I'm in. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. He's he knows scope. OK, I'm in. I'm in. I'm Check.
Check. Five years post Jurassic World Dominion and Expedition Braves isolated equatorial regions to extract DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures from for a groundbreaking medical breakthrough. All right. sure. Yeah. Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali. Like I'm in, you know, I didn't watch the last two Jurassic worlds and Michael Creighton even came back to, to help write this. So he was the writer of the original series, the novels.
So, July 11th, Aaron, this is in contention for my most anticipated film of the entire year. I would dare to say it's probably yours. One of yours as well. But we have James Gunn's Superman movie. This is going to be the start of a very, very intense July. I'm very excited for this month. This might be like the one month I'm most excited for in 2025. Follows the titular superhero as he reconciles his heritage with the human with a human upbringing.
He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way in a world that views this as old fashioned. So David Cornswett's joined as the new Superman. This is essentially I mean, we're just a couple of days removed from the release of Creature Commandos, the animated series on Max, which was good. But I would probably say this is the actual beginning of DC Studios. Would you agree or do you think it really actually starts with Creature Commandos? I'm going to go with Creature Commandos.
Yeah. I mean, I guess a little bit. Yeah. But why not start with the Man of Steel to, you know, to kick off your universe? Same way that Zack Snyder did with his. Because you don't don't blow your load on your first stroke. My man. That would have been Batman. All right. We don't even have a Batman in this universe yet. Neither do we. We don't have a Batman or a Wonder Woman yet in this universe, which is fine. I'm OK with that for now. Good. So I'm so excited for this.
James Gunn can, in my opinion, I'm going to knock on wood loud enough for everybody to hear. Can do no wrong. Everything that he touches. Guardians of the Galaxy Suicide Squad, Brightburn, Scooby Doo. Yeah, write it down because we're 30 PM EST. This is going to be good. Everything I've seen from. Like James Gunn just gets it. And I'm so happy that he's now in charge of the DC of DC Studios with Peter Saffron because he just gets it. He understands these characters.
And I've heard him say multiple times and like press junkets for creature commandos that DC Studios. Yeah, of course, they've sort of headlined multiple installments over the next couple of years. But all their movies are writer based. The universe itself, the the DCU is sort of secondary to the story. You're going to get a lot of different tones, a lot of different visions. And that's what I want.
mean, I love especially the beginning of the MCU, but you can make an argument that directors and writers had to sort of conform their style around the Marvel method, Marvel Studios method, I'll say. So this is exciting. I'm very, very excited for this. OK, so moving on, moving on. I mean, I'm excited. mean, I'm not like, you know, I'm excited, but I feel like I've been I feel like I've been burned too many times. I it. I'm did I get it. Trust me. July 18th. I know what you did last summer.
Directed by Jennifer Kate and Robinson. A group of friends is terrorized by a stalker who knows about a gruesome incident from their past. A remake of the 1997 film of the same name. I love that original one. 1997. That slasher is one of my favorite slashers. It is so stupid. What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? So stupid. But it's good. And Jennifer Love Hewitt is insanely hot in those movies. So. Anyway, let's move on to the last again.
I said it before July an incredible month for film Aaron I were gonna be very busy in July next year because July 25th We have fantastic for first steps being directed by Matt Shakman. I'm not reviewing I know he did last summer you can watch that we it's okay. No, we don't I'll go see it but I'm I just I don't care to yeah, I can refuse Pedro Pascal Vanessa Kirby Joseph Quinn, Iman Mas back rock back rock Jesus Julia Gardner, as we said earlier, playing Silver Surfer.
John Malkovich is in this film somewhere. We don't know what he actually is going to be. Probably Mole Man, but I don't know for a fact. Have you seen Aaron the little junket they did at San Diego? We were at San Diego, but we weren't in Hall H for the secret trailer they showed for this. Would you ever get a chance to actually see that? No. OK. Looks pretty good. I'm going be honest. I'm very excited for this.
And speaking of being burned, the Fantastic Four have literally never put out a good film. Not even the one that wasn't even supposed to be out from the nineties. Also bad. They're all they're all bad, everybody. So yeah, this can only be if it's like, OK, it's already the best Fantastic Four movie of all time. Yeah. So I'm just I'm just nervous they're to fuck up Dr. Dume and Silver Surfer. That's all I'm worried about. It's not a big deal.
If they do it, I might just be depressed for the whole summer. So you never enjoyed the original ones that came out. sure. Yeah, I enjoyed them. Like as a as a comic fan, of course, they're fun, but they're pretty stupid. Yeah. You know, like the ones from the two thousands, the Chris Evans and Jennifer or so, not Jennifer, Jessica Alba, all those. Like, sure. I'll pop them in and watch them. And I really like rise the silver surfer because I think they get silver surfer.
They get nor and correct in that movie. But in that same breath, I can tell you that they fucked up Dr. Doom terribly. Absolutely. And Galactus. Do we even need to talk about the giant cloud that is Galactus? Giant fart cloud. Giant fart cloud. So You see him in like a shadow in the background. It's just so blacked ass. He passed some galactas. Yeah, that was that even galactis. That was just like a turd that he fucking sent Earth's way. That's right. Which of these two are you more excited for?
Superman or Fantastic Four? Fantastic Four. What is it? Is a large gap? Yeah, I'd it's a pretty large. Like I'm excited because of what I've heard about Fantastic Four. Not excited for some of the the doom talk. Yeah. but I am excited for Fantastic Four much more than I am for Superman. Do you think we see RDJ in this film? I think they said that he's going to be like a post credit cameo or something. that's rumored, but it's not confirmed, of course. I feel like we might.
I feel like it's going to jumble it up. We have to, right? Yeah. This is the movie before Doom War. Yeah. Like if we don't see him at some point in this movie, it's going be really weird. People are going to be like, why the fuck is Tony Stark Dr. Doom? Why is he the bad guy in this one? Yeah. So he has to show up in some capacity. I have to assume. But OK, let's get in August here. OK, so August 1st, we got another remake, The Naked Gun, directed by Akiva Schafer.
Based off the widely popular comedy franchise, The Naked Gun and television series Police Squad by Jim Abrahams and David Zucker and Jerry Zucker. I grew up on The Naked Gun series and that like style of, you know, like comedy. I don't know. This is this is not going to translate well. I mean, it's not gonna, I I don't know what it's gonna be. I don't know how it's gonna be. This is a terrible idea. Did you see that they have Liam Neeson playing the titular main character in these films?
Yeah. Do think they just went like Liam Neeson, Leslie Nielsen, Liam Neeson, Leslie Nielsen? old guy. Yeah, like the names are kind of similar and they're older. I feel like it was somebody like went to go send an email and it auto corrected and they got. Like Liam Neeson instead of Leslie Nielsen instead. What if I told you Pamela Anderson was in this movie? I mean, have you seen her lately? Who gives a shit? OK, fair enough. All right. Is Leslie Nielsen even alive? I think he is.
He has to be still alive, right? No, he died in 2000. He died in 2010. Geez. I guess that makes sense. He was 84 when he passed away. He would be over 100 right now if he was. Yeah. All right. Well, all right. Moving on here, we've got I know he wouldn't be over 100 to be close, though. Let's see here. We've got August 8th. We have the Battle of Bacton Cross. This is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The plot is unknown, Aaron, but listen to this cast here.
We've got Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, sorry, Wood Harris, Tiana Taylor. We've got Regina Hall, Boogie Nights, Punch Drunk Love, Liquor's Pizza. There will be blood. Like, come on. There's a very small chance that this is not good. This is I think this is going to be very good. I mean, it's hard to say that with when you don't even know. Doesn't matter. It's Paul Thomas Anderson. Leonardo DiCaprio. Again, I just I'm very confident in this movie.
Okay. Well, I same with the next movie and me. No. Speaking of confidence. I'm kidding. I don't give a crap. Freakier Friday by Nisha directed by Nisha. We definitely needed this. Years after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis, Anna now has a daughter and soon to be stepdaughter. as they navigate the challenges that come when two families merge. Tess and Anna discovered that lightning might strike twice. Okay. Okay. Lindsay Lohan, Chad, Michael Murray, Jaden, Carson Baker. Cool. All right.
Moving on. We've got August 15th. We've got animal friends is being directed by Peter Estesio. I think it's how you say that again. Cast is pretty cool. Ryan Reynolds. Aubrey Plaza, Jason Momoa, Addison Rae, Dan Levy. It looks like this is so the synopsis is essentially two animals become unlikely friends. I would be surprised if this is not either an animated film or like one of those the real dogs, but they animate the mouths to talk kind of thing. So who knows?
But anyway, let's move on to next one here. Next up, got again, an August 15th release, Nobody To directed by Timo Tijonto, suburban dad, Hutch Manziel. former lethal assassin is pulled back into his violent past after thwarting a home invasion, setting off a chain of events that unravel secrets about his wife Becca Becca's past and his own. Now this is Steve Odekirk. I'm Bob, Bob Odekirk. Better call Saul. Better call Saul. But it doesn't say that he's in this one. He is. He's in it.
He's in the he's in the listing. Sharon Stone's. he's just not at the top. Yeah. Chris. Christopher Lloyd is in this Connie Nielsen from Gladiator fame like John Ortiz. He's been in a lot of stuff recently. Yeah. Weird. Colin Hanks. It's an interesting cast here. Did you like the first one? Did you ever see it? I have not seen the first one. It's on Peacock. I recommend giving a look. Speaking of Liam Neeson, it's kind of like Taken, but a little like funnier.
It's like a funnier version of that. Yeah, that's what I've heard. I just never really had a desire. September not looking great, everybody. We don't get our first film until well, a film worth talking about, I guess you should say. until September 26th, the bride being directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal 1930 Chicago Frankenstein asked Dr. Euphronius to help create a companion. give life to a murdered woman as the bride sparkling romance, police interest and radical social change.
And remember earlier we were talking about the Wolfman and how they'd really still want to do the monster verse. Yeah. This is the other part of that. This is the next installment in that. But how there's no Frankenstein. They haven't done Frankenstein yet. They're doing the bride of Frankenstein instead. Yeah, it's not even they're not doing Frankenstein. So you've got Christian Bale on this at Frank, as Frankenstein's monster. You've got Penelope Cruz in this. Julianne Hogue is in this.
Got a Scarsgard, Peter Scarsgard's back from from September five. Annette Benning, Jake Gyllenhaal, like it's a good cast, you know. Julianne Huff is she's on Dancing with the Stars. Yep. Yeah. So Benning's good. Yeah. I think this could be good. Like maybe they figured it out. Maybe they've done it. Finally. I don't know. I said they are. I said they're almost there. They have a they have a SARS guard. So I started scars guard. They're almost there.
Yeah. And when do you think they're going to stop making us all movies? Never. That's a land before times. Yeah. You know, we've officially eclipsed the Fast and Furious Triller films with Saul. Eleven. The 11th. Everyone listen, the 11th. installment in the Saul franchise. And that's not even included. Does that include Spiral? I don't think so. Does that include Jigsaw? the side films? would think it would include Jigsaw. You didn't realize you stole. I was supposed to do Saul Levin, right?
I apologize. Go ahead. It's OK. It's OK. I'll just take two. That's fine. October. We're now in October. October 3rd. Michael directed by Antoine Fuqua. Biopic of the most famous musician, Michael Jackson, known as the King of Pop. you shamone it? Did you see that this is being you've got Coleman Domingo in this, which is cool. Miles Teller, of course. And then it's I think it's Jafar Jackson, who is related to Michael Jackson in some capacity.
Maybe it's his nephew perhaps is playing Michael Jackson in the film. He looks like he's an impersonator. Yeah, yeah, I could see that. Are you are you at all interested in this? Not really. I mean, yeah, I don't. It doesn't it doesn't tease me. Next up, October 10th. Here we go. Here we go. The big one. This is the big one. There's a Chungus among us. Got to bring back our fan favorite segment Trontok. Yes, Trontok Tron Ares October 10th, directed by Joaquin Roening.
Yeah. A highly sophisticated program. Ares is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission. interesting. So maybe they finally got a hold of some kind of key to save the grid. Good cast to Jody Turner Smith, Evan Peters, Jeff Bridges is back as Kevin Flynn. You got Gillian Anderson, Jared Leto playing Aries, which is scary, he's fucking love Gillian Anderson. He can usually be OK in like an ensemble. Cameron Monahan. You've got Greta Lee from Past Lives fame.
Hassan Minaj like this is a good cast. Cameron Park is in this as well. Like I'm very excited for this. And then also they just recently announced at D23 Nine Inch Nails. So it's not gonna be Daft Punk, which is a bummer, but Nine Inch Nails is doing the soundtrack, which is still really cool. and they do really, they do a really good job with soundtracks. I'm forgetting the movie that they did recently, but Aaron, this is again a pillar in our friendship Tron.
Obviously we named our bonus podcast, The Grid off of Tron. We love Tron Legacy. Again, speaking of Joseph Kaczynski and all of that, Jeff Bridges is back somehow. Don't know what he's doing in this movie. He died in the last one, but it's nice to see. Well, I think that he was like Somehow like he kind of like like I think he almost ascended he leveled up into full got him.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe the interesting thing about this is that apparently Jared Leto was a producer of the of the show, the Tron show. It's surprising that they don't have some kind of television show for Tron. That seems like a pretty well, the Tron. They had the animated series. Yeah, I know. But I'm talking about like I would love a live action Tron television series somehow. Sure, sir. If you're looking to get a TV series, why can't Tron? because we don't want to cancel season one.
Fair enough. All right. October 17th, we've got Black Phone 2. Scott Derrickson is back. This is the sequel to the 2021 Black Phone, which was pretty successful. People seem to like it. I have not seen it, but I think I saw that Ethan Hawke was returning as well. And Mason Thymes, I think is how say his name, is back as well. So I guess it's exciting for people who like the first one. Aaron, this is on October 24th. This next one.
I'm kind of interested to hear your thoughts on your excitement level for this one. Yeah. Mortal Kombat 2 directed by Simon McQuade. It's a sequel to 2021 Mortal Kombat, which I actually enjoyed a lot. I think we review that. We did. It was one of our very early reviews. Exactly. And I believe I enjoyed it. It was pretty good. Again, curious to see how they approach this one, because, the last movie, Lewis Tan, who plays Cole Young, he's Not a video game character.
He's just a brand new like OC for the movie. And I will say this, though. Fucking Carl Urban's going to be in it. He is. Who's he playing? Johnny Cage. No kidding. that's right. Yeah, they've been promoting that online. That's right. Yes. So you had for me, it's you put a Carl Urban in it. Done. Done. Average movie plus Carl Urban equals Aaron's excited. Exactly. It's got a good looking cast, though, like just Jessica McNammy is going to be Sonya Blade.
McCadd Brooks is Jax. They were both in the first one too. Yeah. I mean, but the fact that they're reprising the role still is like to me, the fact that they're like, it's a good, it's a good way forward because if you remember from the original Mortal Kombat films, a lot of these characters like for Jax and Sonya Blade and, and a lot of these, they did not reprise their roles.
Like it was all new people because all the stars in the first one were like, probably like, fuck that and jump ship, you know? Yeah. Yeah. And can you blame them? Those, those first ones were pretty bad, even though I still enjoy them. still like them. Nice to see that Haruki Sonata is coming back as well as Scorpion. So again, just say what you said about Call of Urban. You add a Haruki Sonata in there. I'm in. So who's your favorite Mortal Kombat character?
Like who do you play as when you play the game? I don't even know, man. Like usually it's what's the name? Not Scorpion, Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero. Like I love Sub-Zero. Yeah. Mine's Lord Raiden. I love Raiden. So I'll just like do the diving. thing at you in the corner until you die. That's all I do. I just dive at you the whole time. just noob. Getting into the final two months here. got November 7th. We have Bagonia, which is the newest Yorgos Lanthimos film. My name is Yorgos.
Yorgos. He of course did Poor Things, Killing of the Deer, The Lobster. He did the movie that sort of came and went without anybody noticing, Kinds of Kindness. And yeah. I really like Poor Things. Anytime he starts putting together a film, because he co-wrote Barbie with Greta Gerwig, I'm interested. And obviously you got Emma Stone coming back, Jesse Plemons coming back as well. Alicia Silverstone is in this new one. So I don't really know.
It's two conspiracy obsessed young men kidnap a high powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth. sounds like a comedy. Could be like a dark comedy. I would imagine that that sounds about right. Let's see here. What if it was like another one in the the corneo trilogy? That would be like it'd be in the kindness verse. I would imagine this next one.
It's it's interesting that you're getting it because this might I would imagine this is probably in contention for one of your most anticipated. Yeah. So I'm super excited about this one. Also Predator Badlands directed by Dan Trachtenberg. Plot is unknown as they generally are, you know, still under wraps. Post-production is expected to occur November 7th, 2025.
So this is going to be Late in the year, obviously with November, we're going to hear a lot about it coming up in the beginning of the year when they start, you know, probably doing a little bit more releases, things leaking. We'll hear more about it. But right now, apparently the only announced cast is Elle Fanning. Yeah. Ellie Fanning. Yeah. And then do you think we'll get Amber Midthunder coming back as Nauru? I will see. I don't know. I hope we do.
I hope we see her again in some in some way. yeah. I hope they do a separate film that's like Prey 2 or something. Sure. Sure. All right. Number number 14th. We're returning to the now you see me verse with Ruben Fleischer's Now You See Me 3. The magic verse, the magic verse, the card trick verse. The last one came out, I want to say, in like what was like 2014. I don't remember exactly when the second one came out, but I came out. I liked this franchise 2016.
Excuse me. Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Rosamund Pike, Daniel Ratcliffe, Morgan Freeman, Lizzie Kaplan. Isla Fisher, that Dave Franco? There's a couple of them that like are returning from the previous installments. And yeah, I mean, these are just like sort of fun. They're like a little bit stupider versions of the oceans movies. Yeah, they're just they're oceans movies with magic.
Essentially, if if Daniel Radcliffe doesn't get like to be a complete dickhead in this movie as like a magician, I don't want to see it. Yeah. So you got November 21st, you got The Running Man directed by Edgar Wright. It's the futuristic United States of 2025 when the world has become a dystopia. Really good cast we're looking at here. But if you don't know anything about The Running Man, was originally an Arnold Schwarzenegger film where he is, I want to say he's like, he works for a company.
He knows some secrets or something happens. He gets basically tossed into this game where he's basically being chased by the celebrity killers. If you ever remember the comic that we recently talked about, Cancelled, it was very much like that. you know, just again, fighting for your life. You got to make sure that you're, you got to survive the night. Glenn Powell is going to be in this. Ben Richards, Josh Brolin, Katie O'Brien, William H. Macy, Michael Cera, Amelia Jones.
I think it's got a great cast. I'm excited to see it. It's The Running Man. I just hope they don't go too far off off book from the original. Did you ever see The Original Running Man? yeah, of course. But, know, to sort of appease your worries, it's Edgar Wright. Like, yeah, doesn't make a bad movie. Edgar Wright. His worst films are still incredible. When I look at his filmography, I'm thinking of like the world's end and maybe like last night in Soho is maybe his bottom two films.
I still love both of those movies like Edgar is one driver. Scott Pilgrim, right. Rinehouse Hot Fuzz. Yeah, definitely, definitely going to be someone that we can count on for a good film. At least not at least if not a good time. Right. Wicked part two coming out in November 21st also. Let's talk about part one. Yes, last week. Yeah. Yeah. Directed by John Chu. If you haven't seen part one, you're an idiot. Get out there. Go see it. What are you waiting for?
You're missing out on something incredible. But again, like this, the Running Man is going to get crushed. Yeah. Yeah. Let's just be honest. It's going to get crushed. And the fact that it's coming out like almost to the day a year later is great timing, good marketing. I think it's going to be phenomenal. Again, this year was kind of weird because you had three films like Moana 2, you had Wicked Part 1 and then Gladiator 2 that came out around the same exact time.
weird that this year there's a huge competition for this time of year, but this is not going to be a competition and the Running Man is going to get absolutely demolished. Sorry, Edgar. It's almost like the same scenario for Wicked because the Running Man, I'm assuming is going to be kind of a bro-y movie. It's going to be for the guys. This one's for the guys. And then Wicked, of course, is I would say mostly aimed towards women, but you and I loved Wicked.
And then like that next weekend, the Thanksgiving day weekend, which again, as you said, lines up perfectly with this year with part one, you have Zootopia 2, which could end up being the same way that Moana 2 came in and sort of cut the ankles off of Wicked. like it's overall, what it could have done is Zootopia 2, which people are wanting, people want the sequel to Zootopia. We could see a very similar thing where, you know, Wicked 2, is sort of handcuffed in that way. Did you like Zootopia?
Yeah, I really liked the first one quite a bit. Yeah. And I'm definitely excited to see the second one too. Yeah, I really like again, that's a great comedy. the writing, the dialogue, everything's like so good in Zootopia. And it was I'm excited for the second one. Great cast. Jason Bateman can do no wrong in my opinion. He's so good. Have you ever seen? God damn it. What's the name? Bad words. I don't know if I have actually. So it's like Jason Bateman.
He goes and he goes into a spelling bee for like, okay. And it's so good. It's you have to check it out if you haven't gotten a chance. Twenty twenty thirteen film. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I to this one up again. It's got Katherine Haun in it too. You know, Jason Bateman is one of those secret sauce guys that you put him in a movie and it just enhances it so much. Yeah. I mean, his Nick Wilde in the first one is like Judy Hopps.
I forget the actress who plays Judy Hopps or voices Judy Hopps, excuse me. But I know her face. I just can't remember her name. her and Nick... Goodwin. Yeah. They have a really good relationship. Speaking of, we were talking about Once Upon a Time earlier with the actress who played the evil stepmother or evil queen. That's her. OK. OK. she plays Snow White. Excuse me. She plays Snow White from Once Upon a Time. So, okay. Anyway, sorry. Moving on to December, because we're running the show out.
It's going quite a bit longer than we anticipated. But here we go. December 5th. are you just speeding through these? through this. The sequel that nobody asked for that to the original film that nobody asked for was Five Nights at Freddy's 2, directed by Emma Tammi. Sequel to 2023's film. Cool. Cool. It made a shit ton of money. No one expected this to be good. wasn't. Matthew Lillard in it. Yeah, the first one had Matthew Lillard in it. He was the bad guy at the end.
Elizabeth Lail from the Netflix show where he's like a good looking killer. What's his name? shoot. Why am I spacing it, Aaron? was it you? Is that her? Yeah. it is her. Yeah, you're right. You. You. Avatar Fire and Ash. So the third, I think it's the last one. I'm not sure. I want to say that James had four planned. But this is the third installment in the Avatar franchise. Will it make a billion dollars? Probably. But why? Way of Water did the same thing. Made a billion dollars.
Remember when we talked about how like in-game eventually surpassed Avatar and we're like, well, that makes sense because everyone went and saw it. it back in theater. And yeah, then Avatar came and like usurped it again. They're like, nope, motherfuckers. But the Way of Water made a billion dollars, too. I just I don't know what the appeal is. I don't understand it. The untapped market for Avatar. I just don't get it. And then a SpongeBob movie search for square pants.
Are you excited for this one, Aaron? Nope. Okay. And then round us out the weekend and there'll be other movies that come out throughout the year that are not on this list, but Sarah's oil directed by Cyrus Nostra rush. think is how you say that 1914 and 11 year old black girl, Sarah Rector struck oil on her Oklahoma, Oklahoma land, igniting greed and corruption. Despite adversity, she prevailed through courage and faith becoming the wealthiest black girl. in the world. interesting. Okay, cool.
Zachary Levi's in that one. But anyway, that'll do it everybody for 2025. Again, there will be other films that come out throughout the year, but that's sort of a good starting point. Honestly, I feel like we covered a lot more than we should have. But Aaron, some questions for you before we end this episode. Send it friend. Which of these films do you feel most confident in in flopping? Like which of these films do you think undoubtedly flops? And I already said mine from earlier. undoubtedly.
Yeah, I would definitely. Snow White. I would definitely go with Snow White that it's going to be like a fucking shit show. Snow White. Definitely. You know, honestly, I could see Jurassic World Rebirth possibly flopping. Naked Gun. Yeah, I definitely could see that not being popular, but also I don't think there's like a ton of excitement for it to begin with.
Not that there's like a ton of excitement for Snow White either, but it's a Disney live action film that they put 300 million dollars into. It's a classic IP. like if it's not successful, I think actually The two the two leaders for me are Lilo and Stitch and Snow White. Those two, I can easily see both of them flopping. Minecraft will not flop simply because the amount of kids that play that fucking game and adults and everything. Yeah, that will be there. There's I mean, I will.
I don't know if you will. Is there a movie that you want to review that you think I am not already on board for? I would say maybe The Electric State. Yeah, I'm not excited for that one at all. Yeah, that could be one that you might have to convince me of. Yeah. I think that would be the I think out of all the ones that I want to like would like to review. I think that's really the only one that I don't see you being on board for. Sure. What about you?
Mine would be Passion of the Christ Resurrection Dash Chapter one. You want to review that? Just kidding. No, I do not. I'm just kidding. mean, Jesus, literally. I would say it's probably F1, the Joseph Kaczynski film in July. Basically Top Gun, but with fast cars. Yeah. So I know you're not like jazzed about that one, but I'm very excited for it. Yeah, you're pretty you're pretty correct on that one.
But I, you know, for you, I've done it before and I'll do it again for you because you're my baby boy. We got Craven coming up. That's right. God damn it. OK. What do you honestly think is the best nerd related film on this list for twenty twenty five? what do you think would be the best nerd related? The best nerd related or just like the like it's most. which one do you think you're going to like the most? The one I'm going to like the most. Let me list some here for you.
OK, I'm just going to down the list here. We've got, okay, we're into, nothing in January, nothing in February. Captain America Brave New World, would be one obviously. The Electric State, the one on Netflix. Minecraft, Thunderbolts. We'll throw Mission Impossible, the final reckoning in there as well. 28 days later, or sorry, yeah, 28 years later, excuse me. Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, Fantastic Four, Final Steps. We'll throw Tron Aries in there, Mortal Kombat 2, Predator Badlands.
And I think that's probably it. Which of those do you think is going to be the best movie? I think we'll probably cover all those on on the. mean, honestly, I think probably Fantastic Four. OK. Yeah, I mean, so here's my hope. I hope it's Tron. I hope Tron is the best of all those. we always want Tron to be the best. Yeah. But I think it's probably going to be Superman. So one of us will be right in July. We just don't know which one yet. But I think it's Superman for sure.
Yeah. I would like my guess is either Fantastic Four or Superman. One of those two. Yeah. I think it's the same for me too. I think one of those is going to be the year's best in terms of nerd films. And then which of these are you most excited for? Believe it or not, the one that I'm actually the most excited for besides the most anticipated. I'm not going to say Tron areas because that's a given. Yeah. Yeah. But honestly, the amateur. OK. Rami Malek. Yeah. He's killing folks with his mind.
Well, it be very situational right now because I've been watching A Day of the Jackal on Peacock right now and that it's, my God, that show is so good if you haven't seen it. it feels very much the same. You know what? I'm going to say the couple that I'm in between would be like F1, Centers is what I'm really excited for. Thunderbolts I'm very curious about. I'm going to say F1 only because I know, no, no, no, it's Superman. It's Superman for sure.
Fantastic Four is in that conversation as well. But I think it's Superman Superman. just I'm so excited to get James Gunn in charge of this universe. So that I think will do it. And I think we can put a pen in 2025 in terms of what we're excited for. Let us know if you guys have any movies that you're really excited about that we didn't spend a ton of time on here or we missed anything. Yeah. if you missed it. Yeah. For some reason, we didn't we didn't capture something we didn't.
We missed it completely. Let us know. We'd love to hear what your what your anticipations are. Absolutely. Well, Aaron, think that'll do it for episode 176. Take us out of here. Like I think this is going to be better than Madame Web, but it's still going to be bad. So it's not really a high bar to hit everybody. No, this is this is there. We are not going into this film anticipating much, but we are going to this film expecting very little.
Yeah. It's just interesting now that every time I see Russell Crowe in a film, I'm like, this is probably not going to be very good. I that we're there now. I just hate that we're there. That's pretty fucked. Yeah. All right, everybody. That'll do it for episode one. Seventy six. We will see you next week for episode one. Seventy seven.
