Hello everyone, welcome back to the Nick amp podcast. This is episode 21. And today we're going to discuss something close to my heart, content creation mastery, and exploring the importance of being consistent, maintaining quality content, or, I should say, and building a supportive community that goes beyond just the numbers. Before we jump into it, let me share a little bit of my journey so far.

So for those of you who don't know me yet, I'm Nick amp, I'm a photographer, filmmaker, business owner, creative entrepreneur, outdoor enthusiast, man of faith, and a whole lot of other things, not just one thing. I know a lot of people will just say, I'm a photographer, but just gonna go with the theme of what we're talking about today. I've always believed in making art, not just creating content for social media and views.

And today we're gonna talk about creating longer form content that makes more of an impact than rather than just creating content for views. Today we're gonna talk about creating longer form videos and films that are impactful, that resonate with your audience. So one of the more significant things in my journey lately is I changed my niche. I started out as a landscape photographer, and I transitioned into an outdoor adventure, travel content creator.

And I quickly realized that is not what I wanted, and I know I've talked about this before. My interests have evolved, but also I've always been interested in many things, fitness, soccer, mountaineering, making films, not just being a photographer. Being a man of faith, I go to church every Sunday. I help teach Bible classes. I realized that I wanted to share more in my life so that the people following me, they get a better understanding that you don't just have to be one thing.

I've noticed a huge trend pushing back of the niche-less content creator. And you know, it's resonating with a lot of people because a lot of people are interested in multiple things. Maybe photography is a portion of interest, but then they're also in the rock climbing, they're in the badminton, bowling, whatever. You can be interested in more than one thing because we're humans. So moving forward, I do wanna talk about something that it's passion projects.

They're some of the things that keep you going, and they're hard to do when you're balancing a full-time job, family commitments, and client work, running a business, a lot of different things. A lot of those come first because we have to pay the bills, right? And a lot of the times, passion projects do not pay the bills. They don't, they just don't. But here's the thing, creating passion projects, keep the creative fire going, they keep the passion going.

But not only that, they do create opportunities for new work. Now, I don't know if you know this. So let's say you create a short film on a specific person and you added your own creative style to it, and it was just very specific to how you create things, okay? And it's about a person, it's very impactful, and a company sees it, and they realize they like the way you filmed it. And they want you to create a film with that type of style, similar for them. Now, hear me out.

They would not have seen that film. They would not have hired you if you didn't create that passion project. So not only does this help you keep going and being able to separate work from fun in terms of being a photographer or filmmaker, it creates business opportunities to create more of the work you like to create. And isn't that what we want to do as creatives? We want to create work we want to create. We want to create work that has impact.

We want to create work that we're interested in because let's be honest, creating commercial work for clients is not always what we want to do or we're super interested in. Yes, it pays the bills. Yes, we know that we're serving other businesses and we're really helping them out and helping them reach more people, helping them make money and get more abused to their business. Maybe they have a good mission and they're going to impact those people.

But when we start getting more projects that really align with their values and what we want in life and how we want to help other people, man, if that doesn't get you excited, then I don't know what does. So that is why you need to make time to create passion projects. And if you can dedicate 30 minutes, one hour to it a day, maybe three hours a week, do it. Maybe it might take you three, six months to get one short film out. Okay, that's fine.

As long as you get it done, that will help you stay inspired and being creatives. Staying inspired is something that they can get you. You get that creative funk. I highly, highly encourage you guys to get that script out that you have for that short film or that idea, put it on paper and take actionable steps to get it done. Because you never know. I mean, this short film that you make, this passion project, how it's going to impact others.

And even if one person says, Nick, this passion project, this film that you made, it really resonated with me. And it made me think about something just a little bit different. That's good enough for me. That's good enough for me. To the heart of the podcast right now, we're gonna talk about content creation. Now, yes, creating more content does increase the chances to get more views, more likes, more awareness to your account.

Being consistent is super important, but mindlessly putting out content just to put it out is not going to help you grow. Maybe it might, but it's not going to help you create a strong impact on other people. Just because you get views on a video does not mean that video is leaving a huge impact on someone. I don't know about you, but for me, me personally, I want my videos, I want my art to have an impact on others. Because what are we doing this all for?

And if it's not creating an impact, if it doesn't mean anything to make money, okay, that lasts for a little bit of time. I mean, yeah, it pays the bills, but at some point you're gonna get bored or you might be unfulfilled. Now, in terms of mastering content, there's a couple of few strategies. You have to figure out who you're talking to. Now, this goes for content creation, making cinematic films, making YouTube videos, making blockbuster films, documentaries. Who is your target audience?

Now, I'm being serious here. Making Avatar, who is it? The more you know about who you want to interact with, who you want to see your videos, the more better you can create your videos. So for content, maybe I wanna motivate filmmakers who wanna start their own business and they're also into the outdoors or in the fitness, they're into improving themselves. Now, my content's gonna be motivational.

I can make cinematic videos, showing my workouts, me making business plans, showing off my outdoor, doing something hard. And it's all doing through the art, but also showing I'm improving myself. Now, that's very, very specific. Are you with me here? Now, whatever that means for you, figure out what it is, write it down, and start gearing that content towards that person. Not only does it help you find that person, it repels the people if you don't want to follow your account.

And people who don't align with your values, if they don't follow your account, they're most likely not gonna engage with your content because they're not interested in it. We want the people who are interested in what we're trying to say because those are the people we're trying to connect, the people we're trying to impact. Now, that's my little tidbit today for a content creation mastery. Figure out who your target audience is, your avatar, who's that person that you wanna impact?

So for me, I've really decided to change the way my content is being made, the kind of content I make. It's gonna be more educational, teaching about filmmaking tips, photography tips, creative tips, business tips, helping people grow, not only just with their skills, but with their mind, with their faith, with their self-improvement, improving their life. How am I gonna do that? It's gonna be through educational videos like this, talking to them.

This is a podcast, but doing a talking heads video, having tutorials, increasing my YouTube videos, we're showing that. And I'm also gonna incorporate cinematography in it because I wanna showcase my creative style into the short-form content because I don't just wanna post. Hello there, my name is Nick and here's how you do this.

Yeah, some videos are necessary like that, but I also still wanna create art because like I mentioned earlier at the beginning of the podcast, I don't just wanna create mindless content putting it out there. I wanna create art, I wanna create something that means something. Art has to mean something, at least for me.

I hope you guys feel the same and if you don't feel the same right now, maybe you'll take a look at today after this podcast and you'll think, man, maybe I have been posting content that has never been meaning anything. I don't even let the work content. I know I've said this in last podcast, I just don't like it. I like the word art. I wanna create art, not content, not long-form videos, art. Now I don't have a problem with people making short-form content. That's how they make their money.

For me as a creative, I just can't just do that. I have to, for me, it has to mean something. Now what do I wanna do with this content though? I wanna help others be confident in themselves to follow their dreams, whether it's in the creative side, the business side, the fitness side. Just improving your life, that's what I wanna do.

I wanna help you be more confident in that and I really, quite frankly, I'm excited to share that with everyone I am because it's created a new fire in me to create. I got burned out for a while because I realized I wasn't making meaningful content always. When you know you're making an impact, it motivates you to do more and I figured out what problem I'm trying to solve.

I figured it out and when you have that clarity, making content, making videos, this becomes a whole lot easier because you know who you're trying to help. This last portion of the podcast, I wouldn't be here without my community, whether that's my support system, my family, my church community, the online community, the people who follow me, the friendships I've made and it goes beyond just the fire emojis that people comment. I've created real friendships on these social media apps, I have.

I've been backpacking trips with them, I've gone on traveling trips with them, I met up with people and actually on Thursday, I'm meeting some friends from Houston and those of you who you know they are, Arturo, I'm excited to meet them and I wouldn't have met him unless it was through these social media apps and it's simple as, hey man, you post good work DMing them and I would love to meet up with you sometime.

I'm gonna be in the area at this time, maybe take some cool photos and videos or maybe I'll just buy you a cup of coffee and I could pick your brain about the art photography, the art filmmaking, the how to run a business.

It doesn't have to be actually doing the act, you could just be buying coffee and hanging out with them because you, me, all of us often forget that people on social media are actually real people with feelings in real lives and everything you see on social media is not always what it seems to be, it's just a sliver of what we show them. Social media, podcasting, it's all just for entertainment. Yeah, there's educational content on there but it's meant to entertain us.

These people are real people, they're real people, real life people and I think once you realize that, it becomes a lot less scary, the fear of judgment goes down because you realize they're all feeling the same things you're feeling. They're feeling and putting themselves out there. That person who has 100,000 followers has just been at a longer time than you, they've been practicing longer. They're on probably year three, year four, year five and maybe year on month one.

I thought I was way better than I thought I was when I first started out. I was thinking, why did I not get all these views? Why did I not have all the comments like everyone else? Why am I not getting as much attention? Why does that work? I look as good. It takes time to build a community. It takes time to improve your skills but you know what you can do right now? You can leave a meaningful comment on someone's post. You can leave a meaningful DM in someone's inbox. Anybody can do that.

Anybody can be personable. Humans wanna connect with other humans. We don't just wanna connect with robots. We just don't, at least I don't. I cherish the human connections and relationships I have with other people.

This community goes deeper than the numbers and I just can't begin to explain how much of an impact and how much of inspiration it has brought to me and how much it keeps me going, how much it inspires me because I know that other people on this app, other people out there in the world, this community, they're creating videos, they're creating content, they're working hard on the business even when they don't feel like it.

So what gives me the right to just say, well, I don't feel like doing it today. I'm gonna call it quits early. This community is here to not only just support you but also keep you accountable, motivate you. And that is honestly why building a community is so important, even if you only have a thousand followers on social media.

I know people on social media who have a thousand followers and their community is much, much stronger than people with over 50K, 100K, 200K because they are personable with one another. They actually mean what they say. They leave beautiful comments instead of just spamming fire emojis. Personally, I don't like to leave comments like that fire emojis, I like leaving meaningful comments. If I comment on your post because I generally like it and I genuinely wanna engage with you, the person.
