Hawaii is replacing its last coal plant with a giant battery powered by oil generators. This coal plant provides 16% of the islands electrical generation capacity currently and the goal was to power the battery with excess energy powered from renewable energy sources.

Supply chain issues and delayed projects have left island residents with the burden of coming higher energy costs.
