You're listening to the New Manager podcast. I'm your host, Kim Nickel, and today is a little bit different. I had something to share that could not wait. I wanted to get this to you as quickly as I could. So I have decided I'm going to be teaching a class that I'm

calling leadership orientation. And leadership orientation is one of the missing pieces when you move into the manager role because leadership orientation is about getting clear on the question, how do I know when I'm doing a good job? And the shift from individual contributor to now people manager, no one tells you that those are totally different jobs. And when you get promoted to be a manager, it's usually because you're really good at being an

individual contributor. But because those jobs are so different, you can feel like you kind of walk off a Cliff into open air, and there's this flailing of like, I don't know what I'm doing. And the comfort of being good at the IC part of the work can be very attractive, very alluring. But that's not what the job is when you're a manager. And so there's this whole part of this leadership orientation around how to clarify what does it mean to be a successful

leader? What does it mean for you, given who you are, your particular strengths, things about you that will make you successful in managing and leading? I mean, so much of being a leader is arbitrary. There are lots of different ways to do it.

And I want you to feel more grounded and more self assured in the way that you're leading and why so that you're not trying to chase some vague or impossible standard, but actually are feeling really grounded in your values, in your strengths and more confident in your particular leadership style. So I'm decided I'm going to teach a class on this. It will be on June 18th. It will be for two hours. And I just prepared the course

page like just today. So I'm offering really friendly pricing because there's not a lot of time for you to get approval for your work. But I definitely recommend, if you can ask your work to cover the cost of this professional development experience, you should definitely do that. But I know sometimes it can take a while to go through the approvals process, and I wanted to simplify that for you. So I will put a link to the course in the show notes.

You can also go to my website, kimnickel.com to find the link to it. It's called, again, leadership orientation. I'm going to help you define success, discover your personal leadership style so you can feel more authentic confidence. We're also going to do an assessment in that class so you are able to identify your top strengths. And we're also going to do a values exercise to uncover and clarify the core values that are sitting beneath all of your decisions and all of your

choices. So I'm excited for this. I know it's happening really soon, which is why I'm showing up here at an unscheduled time. It's the first time I'm offering this. So I'm really excited to guide you through this experience. And it's just one day. It's just for two hours. So it won't take, you know, a huge commitment. We're just going to get in, we're going to get to it and then we're going to get, get going, get on our way. So that's what I wanted to jump

in and share with you. Go to the show notes, find the class, sign up and I will see you on June 18th. Thanks so much for listening.
