Transcript

The following presentation is brought to you by the pride of ODU, the official NIL collective of Old Dominion Athletics. Be a Monarchist. Join the pride. Monarch Nation. We are back to talk about Old Dominion's trip to Boone. Uh, Old Dominion loses 28 to 20. But there's a lot more to the story. Uh, but first we, uh, I got to greet you, Gary, but I also, we have some special guests joining us today.

First up, uh, old dominion hall of famer and former football player, Jonathan Plisco, and former ODU kicker and likely future hall of famer, Jarod Brown. Let's add them to the stage. How y'all doing fellas? Doing great. What's going on? Glad to be back. Yeah, thanks for that intro too, because I'm hoping, but you never know. I mean, you still got the longest kick in ODU history, right? You have the most points in ODU history, right?

And it'll likely never be touched because we'll never have another Taylor Heinicke at the school. We're never going to kick 73 extra points in a season again. Is that what you're saying? unlikely. No, I agree. Even all that. I mean, I think it's pretty safe to say you should be a Hall of Famer. Uh, eventually. Well, thank you. Hey, don't forget that that isn't tracked. Probably most onside kicks. Uh, we had quite a few every year coming out of jail. So best defense was an onside kick.

Absolutely. Definitely. All right. So We went down to Boone. Uh, everyone thought, I mean, this is the, this is our chance to take control of this division. Um, it didn't happen for us, but, um, I don't know where to start. Where do you want to start Gary? Well, first I'll say I feel guilty because I did not go down to Boone, was not able to go this weekend. So that snaps the, uh, the streak we had going. If I did the post game presser, they won.

So we'll, we'll get that back going again with JMU and Marshall and then, you know, I'll figure something out for Jonesboro, Arkansas at the end of the year. But I think, I mean, we can look at this game and probably say we should have won. We were the better team on the field. I think you just look at the box score. We won that game. But turnovers, sacks, just little bits of execution down there at the end cost us this one. It stinks, but it could have been worse. Yeah, that second half.

I mean, scoring three points in the entire second half. I mean, that's kind of the story. We had control of this game in the second quarter. Uh, we're up 17 7 at one point and final score is 28 20. Um, kind of tells the story. Offense was extremely effective yesterday. Isiah Paige deserves all the kudos. Uh, that was the most impressive water steerer performance I've seen at ODU in a very long time. He was a workhorse. We had some good ones, but maybe ever. That was insane.

Yeah, he tied the record for receptions in a game, um, briefly held by Ali Jennings, both with 16 catches. So, um, who was that against for all either? There's against Western Kentucky. So both competitive, both good teams, they played against the 250, 205 yards. Um, just seemed like whenever we need to play yesterday, he was out there to make it. And yeah, we call his number. He'd, uh, He'd step up, make a play.

Uh, it was definitely, uh, exciting to see and obviously didn't get the result we wanted, but it was, uh, impressive performance, especially in the first half. They were moving him around on the field quite a good bit too. I know early on he was kind of on the outside getting those, those quick hitters, the bubble screens. He was able to get past a few.

I think there was some really good blocking from the wide receivers and from Pat Conroy in front of him just to give him a little bit of space because. I mean, that dude is quick. We've been watching him be quick for, for quite a while now.

Uh, but to see him get just the tiniest bit of separation and break some big ones for us and then come out of the slot over the middle, a couple of times as well, we hadn't seen him do that in a couple of games, but just overall awesome game for page glad to see him get some flowers against someone who's been a thorn in his side for the most part in his career. Now, uh, I've seen a lot of criticisms levied on the defense for not getting off the field enough.

Um, But I think the credit really should go towards Joey Aguilar. That was one of the most impressive performances I've seen in the Sun Belt since we've joined. Um, he either was killing us with his feet or he was making throws that were, could only be caught by the receiver. Like coverage was amazing, didn't matter, right in the basket. Just throwing dots all night long. Uh, so we got to have to give credit to how well Joey Aguilar and his receivers played yesterday. Cause they were phenomenal.

He only completed 13 passes and four were for touchdowns. It's not, not bad for efficiency there. Yeah, I would like this. Uh, they, they definitely showed up, made the big plays on a matter. And as you mentioned, how you are, are just. Yeah, his stat line isn't super impressive, but the faking, uh, I mean, just tremendous throws there when he needed them. Yeah. Um, I don't know. I need to give shout out to all of the ODE fans.

So we, we, we unveiled the monarch a few weeks ago, early in the season, the collaboration beer with afterglow and the pride of ODU sold out of the kegs very quickly. Thanks to. Great ODU fans like Jarod and Jonathan But the cans are officially sold out. So we've sold out all of it. They have to make a new batch Because of how awesome ODU fans are so thank you to everyone that pitched in and bought the beer it's much appreciated and We're gonna make more and the t shirt is in the works.

So good things are happening there But let's get back to this game. Uh, Colton, Joseph, freshman. Pretty phenomenal yesterday. Um, despite the turnovers, um, just 332 yards passing career high, 27 completions, career high, uh, 65 yards on the ground. Um, he is showing us, it's kind of why I'm kind of conflicted talking about this game because Losing sucks. It's disappointing that we couldn't hold and control this division race going forward. But his play is just giving us hope.

And now we know that any given week we should win or we should have a chance to win because we have a quarterback that's put us in that position. And it's really nice to have that after all these years of kind of going through back and forth to all these quarterbacks. They just weren't the answer. Yeah, I'll, uh, I was waiting to kind of hop on on that one. Uh, I think my internet's being a little funny here, but yeah, the it sucks to lose. Uh, but it was a hard fought game.

You look at the stat line. We should have won. App State had those key plays, had more key plays than we did. We lost the game. But the fact that We have an offense. I mean, you look at all facets of the offense, whether it was a read option, uh, power running this, this bubble screens, deep passing, like we have all those options available, uh, which, you know, for the past couple of years, we've been a little, uh, not as dynamic. So we have that capability to hit a team.

However, we need to to win the game. Obviously we didn't, uh, but just to have that, that potential there, uh, it's, it's really exciting again. Uh, never want to see a loss, uh, on the schedule, but, uh, just to see how we came out on offense and, and, you know, even defense, sure they, they put 28 on us, but considering the sacks, considering the turnovers, we had the positions they were put in, uh, again, they've continued to show up as they needed to.

And it's hard when Aguilar is dropping that ball and where they can't do anything about it. Right. Uh, I mean, it was competitive game, uh, definitely disappointing to take the loss, but you know, that point we're fighting, it's great to see it's, it's very exciting, but, uh, you know, I'm excited for the rest of the season. See what the boys can do. I felt a little better about this game until the fourth quarter of Georgia Southern and South Alabama last night.

Because I was thinking, all right, if Georgia Southern loses, we still control our own destiny. We went our last three, we went in the East, we're in the Sunbelt championship game, and then the Eagles put up 20 straight points in the fourth quarter to beat South Alabama. And they've got Troy coastal and app state is the last three on their schedule. We need them to lose because we have the tiebreaker. Um, so it, it stings more than I was hoping it would.

But we still have the ability to go beat JMU, beat Marshall, beat Arkansas State. And then we just need Georgia Southern to slip once. So it's like, not all hope is lost. I mean, we outgained them, we out everything. Just gotta tidy up that little execution piece, and it's a perfect time for a bye week. Yeah, I agree with all of it.

I think that, uh, In any sports situation, but football and specifically 120 guys on the other team in college football are preparing just like we're preparing, they're, they're doing all the things that we're doing every single week. And when they come out and make those big plays, that's their job. That's what they're supposed to do. So I don't feel as bad this time when we lose, because they did their job a couple more times than we did.

We played really well, we did our job most of the game, and then those little plays, they happen, and it's really tough to, to say, oh, we, we could have won here, we could have won there, we should have done this better, because they're doing the exact same things that we're doing, and it was a really good game, it was a hard fought game, and we could have won it, we probably should have won it, like we've said. It didn't happen this time. It sucks that it happens to app state.

Cause at app state, it just feels like it always just doesn't go our way. I mean, it doesn't, we haven't won there. Um, but I think it was a good game. I'm not devastated that we lost. I still think like you said, Gary, we, we, uh, we control the last three games. We got to win all three of them. We control our own destiny in that. And then I don't think Georgia Southern is going to do it. Let's be honest. I don't think Georgia Southern is going to win all three games.

That's just the optimist in me. That's the ODU fan in me, but I don't think they're going to do it. So I think if we win the last three, then, you know, we'll be there. I think we had to be just become app state fans. The rest of the season, seriously, they're out of the race. If they just go and knock off the teams on their schedule, we're looking better. And they played Georgia Southern in the last week of the season, right? Yes, they do. And Coastal, I mean, this Coastal is a tough team.

You know, they're not, they're not going to be a slouch for Georgia Southern. That's going to be a really tough game. Coastal doesn't want to lose. They're not going to go in there thinking we, we want to, we want Georgia Southern to go instead of ODU. They don't care. They couldn't care less. All they want to do is win. They're going to be a tough game for Georgia Southern as well. So, and Troy seems to be figuring something out. Like they beat, uh, they beat Coastal at home on Friday.

So they, believe me, they're not going to lay off for app state. They're not exactly Appalachian state fans. Uh, so we'll see, but it stinks that we have to now depend on that because we went Saturday, we control everything. Uh, but if we were going to lose one, if, if you told me, all right, one of these last three East games, you have to lose, I would have picked app state because the tiebreaker is not likely to matter. Like if we lose the JMU, we effectively dropped two below them.

Same thing for Marshall. So if we had to lose one more East game, I'm glad it was the one that. It's not gonna hurt us too badly later on. And also, everyone hates JMU, so we don't wanna lose that game. That's Oh yeah. . Just, just add it to the giant pile of reasons. We gotta beat JMU this year. Yeah. We need this one. And we have to be, and we have to beat Marshall 'cause they're three in one of the conference as well. Mm-Hmm. . Yeah. Mm-Hmm.

. So, yeah, it's, well, uh, there's a reason why App State was picked. They were picked first in the East, correct? And the preseason goals. I know they didn't get the start they wanted, but I think we all saw the team that they have. And I think, you know, they won last week. They won, you know, obviously this week against us. I think they're, they're definitely trending up and showing the team that they can be.

So, uh, I think, uh, in addition to, uh, the final, uh, against Arkansas state, uh, we'll, I think we'll all be watching, uh, the Georgia Southern app state game as well. Uh, pretty interested in the outcome of that, but should be a good one. App States defensive line was nastier than I anticipated, especially when they got it, we got into situations where they knew we were throwing it and they would only send three or four. I mean, they were mauling dudes up front.

Like if they're getting it together on the D line, their O line seemed a lot more patched up than it was a few games ago. They didn't give up any sacks. Uh, if they're starting to figure out their trenches, they've always had the skill players to go and do it. So we can root for them to be spoilers. Just the rest of the way, ruin everyone else's season since they've already put a, put a notch in ours.

Yeah. One thing I picked up early on in the game, I think it was maybe the first or second drive. Uh, I saw the way they're online. So they had their forward linemen, they had two linebackers, then they had everyone else in the secondary. Very first snap I saw, one of their safeties immediately shade over to the middle of the field after the snap. I go, alright. They were taking away the middle of the field after we used it to obliterate Georgia Southern.

Mhm. And it changed how we had to play them the entire game because we had to focus on the outside of the numbers. And it's why page is so valuable yesterday because we had to attack the outside because the middle was taken away yesterday. So credit to app states DC for forcing us into that. Um, not sure if anyone else noticed that, but they definitely took away the middle of the field early and committed to that all game long.

I also noticed in the second, they brought their corners up on the guys in the perimeter and then cheated their safeties towards the middle to almost. Pinch down the timing on the outside and take away the middle at the same time. So they, they made some, some quality halftime adjustments on defense that caused us some fits. Yeah. Well, sorry, Jonathan, go ahead.

Yeah. I was going to, you know, one of the things this year, especially, uh, you know, credit to the coaching staff, you know, the fact app state through that wrinkle in that we exploited on Georgia Southern. Um, You know, the first half specially, uh, you know, the coaching staff saw that obviously we started running all those outside passes. Uh, you know, there's those off tackle runs to really take advantage. We saw that we made the adjustment.

Uh, obviously app state made some solid adjustments in the second half, which slowed us down. But I feel like the coaching staff this year has been much more reactive and making those adjustments, whether it Coming out of a game heading into based on prior game film or in game adjustments.

Uh, obviously it didn't give us the win this year, but I feel like we're much more, uh, reactive in the coaching staff, a little more servant assertive as far as, uh, seeing what's happening and making those adjustments and putting our guys in the best place to execute. Yeah. To back up that point, we've had fans criticize Ricky throughout his tenure as being too conservative. Yesterday, he goes forward on fourth down.

It didn't work out, but if if Colton hands that ball off, that might be a touchdown. If Colton takes the other gap, that's a first down. He gets six to 10 yards easily. You just picked the wrong gap. Um, which is such a bang, bang play as well. He's got what less than a second to pick. So he picks a gap and he goes and gets stopped and, and he almost got it anyways.

I mean, I thought at first they were gonna maybe, maybe take a look at it and measure it, but then like, okay, you see the replays, he didn't get it. But it was close. There were some questionable spots yesterday. Yeah. Apart from that, that play. Honestly, I think they should have went back to that third down play and looked at where that spot should have been.

Yes. Cause I feel like we had the first down before we even, the announcer said it, the announcer said, Oh, it looks like to be enough for the first down. And then he says, Oh, Oh, they're about a yard short. Yeah. They walked it back like three yards. Yeah. That's how you got to. The refs got to do better. If everyone sees it, refs got to do better, especially on a job. That is so like the spot of the ball. It's just, it seems so arbitrary, right?

Yeah. You also have the ability to just go review it. Like, Oh crap. I may have put that on the wrong side of the foot or something. Just go take a look. We have a replay for that reason. Yeah. I mean, if it's like first down, no one cares, but a third down setting up a fourth and short and a territory where, you know, you're going to go for it. Yeah, I just think they w it'll be fine.

And then i of turn things quite a bi was not too long after we to start the third quarte get too deep in this, I n shout out Aaron Young for weeks. Yesterday again, p on 14 carries. He's just playing so damn hard. Out of the backfield. He was running yesterday. Yeah. I mean, he does it every week, but yesterday he was running.

Yeah. I was hoping to see him with five, six, seven more carries considering he was, he was going off at what, like seven, almost eight yards of pop, almost eight yards of carry. I think I, I w I wouldn't say I know the number, but the number of design runs we have for Colton, do you guys know what that number was yesterday? I don't think I know the number, but I think it had to be at least.

Other than the, the one, you know, where he, it's like a, you know, option and he dives and he doesn't get the first down. I mean, there's, there's 16 other runs there that he had on his 17 carries or 16 other runs, I think at least what five to six of them have to be designed runs. So he's got. Two and a half yards per carry. And he's probably gotten out a couple of times. He had a 14 yard carry.

So he's got probably one time where he rolls out and he goes 14 yards and whatever, and Aaron is hopping off every single time he runs. I get it that you got to mix it up. I get it that we do that with Colton for a reason. Cause he's super quick, but. In this situation, until they stop him, I'm not sure why we didn't just keep running with Aaron. He was torturing. All right. So five of those are sacks, right? So you got to take those out of it. So they count those. They count a sack as a run.

Yeah. That loss is 23 yards. That's why I didn't think they counted the sacks as a run. Yeah. That's why the net yardage is 42. Oh, I actually ran for 63 yards. Okay. But he had five sacks. Uh, mounting the 23 loss yards and losses. I didn't realize they counted a sack as a run. It's . It's, yeah, it's not a run, it's a sack. It's, yeah. And then the NFL, they take it out of what? Team? Pa team passing yards, but not, yeah, team passing, quarterback passing yards. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

That's kind of what I was thinking it was at. I didn't realize. Yeah. So he's at like 3.8 yards per carry if you count out the five, seven yards. So a little better, but still, still. Yeah. Aaron's getting eight . I think it, man, you gotta feed the beast. Support your, your point that 14 carries. It's kind of like when you have a guy that goes seven of eight from three, you should never see that. 'cause if he's hitting seven of eight from three, he should have stopped 15 threes.

Yeah, a hundred percent. Shoot until, doesn't work anymore. Right? Yeah. Yeah. I, I, I think you gotta feed the beast in this situation. I mean, it's a, especially at the end of the game here when we, you know. We're trying to in the second half, keep the lead and you know, just, I'm not saying run out the clock, but we're trying to keep the lead. We need to score, we need to do the right things, but also running the clock is not a bad deal. Just feed the beast.

If they stop them, okay, we'll, we'll go to the throw in the wall. I mean, come on, we got to run on his, his shoulders were. They were asking for to carry all the weight and we didn't give it to him. And I'm not really sure why. So I watched the game at, at afterglow for our watch party. So audio wasn't great for me because I have bar noises all around me and I, my hearing sucks anyways. Did they say anything about Daevon Roche and why he wasn't playing?

They said at the beginning of the game, That he was out, but they didn't, I, I don't remember. It was such a quick thing and I heard it and I kind of turned my head like, Oh, wait, okay. So Devin's out, but I didn't know why. So I didn't hear what they said specifically, but they did it. They did say it's, they said he was out. So they said he was out with injury injury. That's what I'm really elaborate. Yeah, he, he did get another injury in the Georgia Southern game.

And I don't think we saw much late in that one. So I'm hoping that that's not continuing to linger. And maybe it's something they just said, all right, take this week and the bi week and come back healthy for the last three. So, I mean, I think Bryce Duke did a good job. He just didn't get on the field very much. He had two pretty good catches, one for a big first down, had a couple of decent runs.

But I think I was just looking through the last drive of the game, which we had plenty of time on that drive to go down the field. I want to say it was like, I can't remember exactly how much. I think it was like five minutes. But the only touch Aaron Young got was on a pass. So, yeah, it was. But, you know, to kind of come back to that, the first point five minutes. Five minutes, OK.

We have a lot of playmakers, which, you know, we have a, a, a tough run here in the next three games to, to finish out the season. But, uh, you know, whether it's Aaron Young, uh, Colton on the ground or through the air, uh, you mentioned like Bryce, I mean, Isiah Paige, obviously without, without saying, um, you know, finding that right mix, you know, whatever the D throws at us.

Uh, I think, you know, that'll really be key in the next three games is finding that optimal mix to get the ball out with the playmakers. And, uh, we know what they can do. Um, but yeah, it's, uh, still a tough result the way it played out, but, uh, with the guys we have on the team, we have, uh, again, with the start to the season, uh, coming out of the gates as we did with the, the tough schedule, uh, really excited to see what we've been able to do, continue to fight.

Uh, but yeah, it's, it's going to be fun. Three games to finish out with two of those at home. Oh, yeah. Be nice to just win those two. And then it's a little bit less of a sweat at Arkansas state for a number of reasons, but I don't know if I feel like if we beat JMU and Marshall at home, we're not going to lose to anybody on the road the following week. But Hey, it's the fun belt, right? Yeah. College football is a shit show this year anyway. It doesn't matter.

Yeah. But we do have a bi week this week and we know what happens after bi weeks. Ricky Ronnie does not lose after bi weeks. I really hope not this time. Oh man. Yeah, we'll never hear the end of that if they do. So please, please don't. But I'm, I'm glad for the bye week mainly just to get some guys healthy. Like, you know, we said Devin Roche missed because of injury, but Santana Saunders wasn't there on the offensive line.

Uh, so we were kind of really down to the, down a couple of guys on that offensive line from the start of the season. So hopefully getting them back and then we'll see maybe Jason Henderson, maybe a Jalen Butler. Like my, my dream now is to get Jalen Butler and Pat Conroy on the field at the same time and just see what defense has tried to do to stop it. So since Jason's taking his red shirt, Speaking of like, like injuries, yeah, you can play the rest of the season now.

Yeah. Cause there's only three games left. He only played South Carolina, so he can play three. That's still crazy to me. It still blows my mind that that's a real thing. Cause when we played obviously one snap and you were done. So, yeah. And you guys got mistreated. You guys, you guys got mistreated. Yeah, we know. No cream cheese for your bagels. Oh, that's right. Because a bagel is a snack, but if you put cream cheese on it, it's considered a meal. Meal. Can't have it.

Nothing like a cold bagel at 5. 30 in the morning. It was really like 4. 30 as well, because it was like, you better show up an hour before the meeting times, like it's craziness. So because of injuries and depth and all that, Um, one of the plays I want to shout out from yesterday was a pass at state head to the end zone where the ball is knocked out by Deavon Iles. Daevon is a true freshman safety playing in that position, punches it out perfectly.

We all thought at first that was a drop, but that was just a perfectly defended pass. I'll hold my hand up on that one. I texted you guys and said, Oh, well, I don't know why he's doing the. If he didn't do anything, I guess. And right away they showed the replay and said, Oh, nevermind. I'm sorry. Um, that was an incredible play. Like what a, what a defensive play. Incredible.

And that's his first kind of introduction to ODU fans is him shutting down on an amazing pass that was perfectly thrown right in the basket. Like that was the only play he could make and he made it. Yeah. If he doesn't touch the ball, it's a catch, it's a touchdown. So. Yeah, so shout out to Daevon on that play. That was awesome. Incredible. Um, Jaron Manning, second straight game with more than 10 tackles continues to be a light on our defense. Just phenomenal. This season, EJ green.

Great to see him back playing a lot of snaps. Uh, he was second in tackles yesterday with eight. Um, no sex for the boys yesterday, but. We did have three tackles for loss between Jaron, Angelo Rankin, who has become a phenomenal defender, uh, in the tackle, like in other areas of just other than being a corner, like he's coming up in the run game and making plays for multiple games in a row now. Um, been really impressed by him this season.

And then Chris Trinidad has, uh, the other tackle for loss. Chris has had a phenomenal season as well. Yeah, no sacks yesterday, but it was not for a lack of trying. I mean, we were sending the house on a bunch of blitzes and you can see it show up in the quarterback hits. Like Seth Noatala had two QB hits. Mario Thompson had two and Koa had another one.

Probably a few more QB hits that they could have included in there, but they were just able to get the ball out quickly or pick up the blitz just enough to avoid the sack. And then Aguilar just was. Dotting those deep balls and credit to his receivers to think that second touchdown pass, he actually under threw it, but the receiver just kind of shook the defender and took a step back and caught it.

Um, but man, you can't give app state any time back there, like, unless you're a, like an unblocked rusher coming in, which we didn't have any of those, like you were just not going to hit them quick enough. It was just pretty wild, frustrating for that defense. I will say, uh, the other thing I noticed with app that I hadn't seen in the last few weeks is they had a real team speed.

Uh, we hadn't seen that in the last few games against our opponents, but, um, there was one play where Joey Aguilar and the running back, uh, Mario, or I think it was Mario that had a good angle on the play, just got smoked. Like just, they just burned him around the edge and it didn't matter how good of an angle he had, the speed was just too much.

And there's plays like that where you're like, all right, this team has some real talent and there was no business for them starting the season 0 Marshall's really good. And that's another really good running back.

We've gone up against in the last couple of weeks, but 23 carries for 123 yards, uh, 5. 2 yards per carry had a long 29 didn't get in the end zone, but man, he was a workhorse, especially on those drives later in the game when they needed to get in like third and three, third and four, third and five. They were able to set that up a lot, which is why their third down conversion rate was a little bit higher.

Cause we weren't really defending a lot of those third and 10 pluses like we've been used to. It was. Third and five, you can run, you can pass, there's a lot of options, and they were killing us with outs and corners, um, in those, those third and short situations. Yeah, um, just got to tip your hat to App State.

That's all we can really do at this point, because it feels like that scene in, uh, Fast and Furious, where they have that race with Toretta and the, the cop at the beginning of the movie, he goes, I almost had you, bro. Doesn't, it doesn't matter. No, it doesn't matter how close you are. Yeah, I mean, I don't think there's any sense in overreacting either. Some people are overreacting. Oh, well, we did this wrong. We did that wrong.

And like, I don't want to be too, I think we talked about this a little bit ago. I don't want to be too. It's totally fine. It's totally great. We're a great football team and we're going to win all these last three games. Like, we don't want to be that way, but we also don't want to overreact and say, Oh my God, we, we just screwed that game. We, we should have won. We just made way too many mistakes. No, we didn't. We didn't make too many mistakes yesterday, but they were mistakes.

A lot of times that were forced by app state, just playing really well. So, you know, it's tough and that's how it goes. We don't want to overreact and, you know, freak everyone out. It's, it's all right. It's football. This is what happens. I had a lot of similar feelings after the South Carolina game, right? Like we outplayed a good football team. Obviously App State's not the same caliber as South Carolina from a talent perspective, but, uh, ODU is a good football team. We competed.

They just made more plays that South Carolina law still burns me, man. Like that loss. I feel like it's worse every week after they just dump truck Texas A& M at home. But I was like, you know what? We played a lot better down there than A& M did. And I can promise you their NIL budgets a lot bigger than ours. We played, we played them better than a lot of teams did this year.

Yeah. I saw a run from Lenore sellers yesterday where he only gained like 12 yards, but it's maybe the most impressive 12 yards I've ever seen in my life. Yeah. They, they just, they just have crazy athletes at every position. I get like defense everywhere. I mean, they, they blew the doors off a and M late in that game. It was actually, yeah, they really should be better than they are considering where they are at geography wise. Yeah. And they're so close to Atlanta.

They got all the South Carolina athletes. They're not far from Charlotte. I mean, they should just be eating up teams with where they're located. Mhm. A lot of competition in that space to Clemson, Georgia, Florida. I mean, true. Yeah, tough eating, tough eating out there. They scored more points against Kentucky, L. S. U. Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas A and M. Then they scored on us. So we gave him two touchdowns. Yeah, we gave him two touchdowns. That's great. It was week one.

I know it's week one. I know, but I don't care. That is, I mean, they, they scored two touchdowns. Like you're saying Gary, that they started inside our 10 yard line like that. And they only scored 23 points on us. We played our defense is something. I know we didn't get off on third down enough. Yes. Last year, yesterday. And I feel bad that we've gone this far into the show, and we have not shared Aaron's little tidbit on the game.

So, I'm gonna share that right now, and then after that we'll go to fan calls. We got a hurt for the Duke of this what's up, Mike? What's up, Gary? Sorry. I can't be on there with you I'm on this wonderful trip down to Atlanta to see Billie Eilish with the family I can't say that I'm a big fan. But anyway, it should be a great time Atlanta Falcons are in town and right now the Cowboys are losing. So that's awesome Anyways, really good game yesterday.

Unfortunately, we did not come away with the victory. I think the key number was five, five turnovers for the traditional sense. One that was on down, because I know Ricky said that he kind of regretted doing, uh, and then five sacks. So we gave up five sacks. We didn't get any sacks, but to have five turnovers to one and only be one score away, uh, there's lots of great upside for this team. So I'm excited about two weeks from now. That's the big game. That's the next game.

We got to beat JMU and that spring poison store and other thing. I'll see you guys tomorrow at the basketball game. Go Monarchs. All right, thanks Aaron. Um, Cowboys did lose that game, so we need to give that a final recap. I believe they lost 27 21 to the falcons. is injured. He's out. Um, this, this, this call is it's always, I'm not sure injured by the way. I don just not great. Just a dra say it is the Yankee fans week.

Oh, that's a good o All right, and then, uh, obviously the Duke of Discipline gave us a call, so I'm gonna throw his logo up on here on Jonathan's face before we play his video, his audio. Sorry, Jonathan. Interesting game, fellas. I do want to start off, Van Isiah Paige absolutely cooked yesterday. Uh, I wanted to highlight that first because the guy has given everything to this program since coming here, and I hate it when we Squatter huge performances like that.

Uh, don't want to be too negative, but do you want to point out some things? Uh, I don't think our defense game plan enough on our UR's ability to run. Contain was broken too many times and he ran for his most yards yet on the season. We did go away from the run. Probably in, in just such weird situations, uh, after talking about that we could just run the ball down their throats and we did. AY had a lot of great runs, uh, Duke had some great runs. Uh, Colton had still a lot of growing to do.

Uh, the pocket awareness was really iffy yesterday. One of those sacks, the, the pocket looked perfectly fine and he ended up twisting or spinning to try and scramble, uh, when the pocket was perfectly fine. Uh, that's where knowing you can run can hurt you. Uh, just having more patience in the pocket and hopefully he grows in that. Not saying not to run, but, uh, he's got a good arm. And when there's a good pocket, let's try and use it.

Fumbles when our QB fumble the ball, uh, from what I looked at when Grant was going through this for sub 500 and when they fumbled the ball twice, it's almost a guaranteed loss. So, uh, he fumbled in the five games he's played in this year. So need to fix that, especially when you're going out against a team that, uh, had a double digit. Negative turnover margin.

So gotta clean that up Uh, but that's that now on the jmu these guys are still in this even though it's a bit messy So let's pass pack the castle and get loud ran on. All right It brings up a good point with uh aguilar's feet. We didn't even talk about that. He had a third Seven carries for 61 yards. So yeah Every time he ran off took take off. It was just like perfectly timed but um I was really impressed by Aguilar yesterday. Sorry to cut you off there, Gary. Oh, you're good.

But Garrick, thank you for the call. We'll, uh, get the week to rest back up and then hopefully pack the castle for JMU. Like if you're not going to show up to the JMU game, why, why do you have tickets? What's the point? So it was announced that students tickets for JMU sold out. So yeah, it's been great this year.

Phenomenal. And I will say this, the progress for the student section started last season because we had these same issues last year where these season tickets were sold for whatever and they were empty while we were doing that bowl run last year. But the student section continued to be popping. And it's happening this year again. We have to get away from all these corporate tickets that we're giving out.

And we have to, I feel like we need to just sell single game tickets to Virginia tech so we can avoid how many empty seats we have the rest of the season. Just amp up the price for Virginia tech as a single game ticket, charge 200 bucks if you want to. Oh, they'll sell. They'll sell. They'll make more money and we'll still be able to sell those tickets for the other games, especially in the years when you get. Tech, East Carolina, JMU, and Marshall.

Those are fan bases that are going to travel for them too, but also games that people here surely care about. Yeah, because I mean, whatever the price of a season ticket is, that's what Tech fans are willing to pay for the one. And that's pretty consistent all three years that we've had them in Norfolk. We've run into this problem. Yeah. That's why, if you go on SeatGeek right now, you can get like 5 tickets to every ODU game.

Yeah. And I know people are trying to sell them for 60, 70 bucks a pop. Like it's not going to happen with the way that the, uh, with the way it's happening this year with the tech games is you're not going to sell them for 70 bucks. Like it's just not going to happen. Yeah. Um, but we do have a sellout officially. So soon section sold out all the rest of tickets sold out for GMU. Uh, hopefully that means we're going to have an awesome crowd. I hope we do not see many streamers in this game.

I hate it so much. Nothing would make me happier than a shutout for that game, just because I wanna see everyone have to carry the big dumb bags of streamers back to their car afterwards. that'd be great. Some party supply stores, like why are they refunding and, and bring back so many streamers. What happened? Yeah. Was it coastal that didn't let them bring him in? It might have been. God, I wish we would do that too.

No, I think it's better to let them bring them in and have to take them back with them. Yeah, it's also a battle you will not win with the, uh, the walkthrough gates that they have now. You'll never find them. That's true. That's true. Yeah. Um, It's Trish's and I'm glad we don't do it because it's just trashy. I mean, you were literally trashing the stadium. Yeah. Yeah. I think last year it rained after the game, or the last time they came here, it rained after, so it was just a mess.

Yep. Yeah. I've always said, if we lost every game of the year but beat JMU, I would still be happy. I can't stand them. I said that the year we beat Tech in 2018, I said, I don't care if we go 1 11, as long as that one win is against Virginia Tech, I'm happy. I'm happy. That basically happened. Yeah. You went a lot that year. Oh, all right. I'm excited about what we could still, what we can still do here. Like I'm going to watch the JMU game on Saturday, see how they look.

Cause they've been kind of what scored 70 against UNC and then their offense hasn't really looked right since then. So I don't know. Like it's, it's, it's like a crap shoot every week trying to figure these teams out, but it's so different now. Alright, so before we get to next week and get too far down the road, we need to take a moment to shout out the pride. So let's do that right now. Um, if you guys want to grab a beer or something, this is the perfect time to do it. I'm going to do that.

This episode of the Monarchist Podcast is brought to you by the Pride of ODU Collective. Their mission is to elevate the experience of student athletes through name, image, and likeness, while also elevating the fan experience. If you or your business are interested in getting involved, you can reach out to us directly or go over to the pride of odu.com. That is the pride of odu.com. Thank you for listening. And go Monarchs. So, as promised, I grabbed my beer. I was quick.

Yeah, I couldn't run down the stairs that fast. Might break an ankle or pull a hammy. So my, my monarch beers are in my garage fridge, so I had to just settle for tapping the Rockies here. I am out. I'm, I'm distraught to hear the, uh, I mean, you know, monarchist beers, uh, all sold out. I was hoping to get another, uh, a couple four packs, uh, anxiously awaiting the, uh, the new batch. That's all. I know a guy that bought two cases and has some in his bar. So we can make a trade or something.

Hey, we can work something out. It's well worth it. It's a good beer. I, I, I don't think we've actually talked that much about the beer on here other than telling people to go buy it, support it. Money goes back to the collective, goes back to our players. Um, but it's a good beer. Yeah, I enjoyed it for sure. It's a good beer. And, uh, uh, afterglow, I mean, what a spot, man, like the, uh, the support, the things they do, uh, support, you know, the collective, uh, ODU in general.

Uh, I mean, it's definitely been, you know, whether it's the, the coaches, uh, forget the official name of the coaches caravan or the events that have been going on there, but, uh, you know, really impressed to see not only a Monarch nation show up, uh, but after glow do what they do, uh, both brewing and, uh, supporting ODU athletics. So we probably had 30 to 40 fans show up yesterday for the watch party. I like it, Gary service table service here is pretty good.

So Brittany, I said, hi, uh, all right. One of the coolest things I did was this for this game, they added a new projector, um, and before the game, Josh, who's the owner of after glow and a great guy, he asked me every game, how many TVs do you want the game on? I always say every TV, all of them. So, I mean, we had in our area, we were in the front area. We had the projector and then five TVs all with the ODU game on it. It was fantastic.

Like you couldn't have found a better atmosphere to watch the game. Everyone there is into it. We had ODU chants going. We had everyone getting loud. I didn't get called out. I asked for an ODU chant in the third quarter and like the next drive we've got a strip fumble, strip sack fumble. So I tried to get one going between the third and fourth quarter. And this lady just said, last time you asked us to do that, we fumbled the ball. No. So shout out to her for picking up on the connection there.

I really appreciate that type of attention to detail. So note to self, Mike, Mike can't lead any more chance going forward. Got it. Hey, I'm just trying to get people hyped. That's all. We just got to get a recording of it so you can just play it in afterglow occasionally. You'd be like, Hey, not me. I'll make you a deal. Mike, we win the next two games. I'll be there for afterglow. I know it's like an hour from me. I mean, ODU is an hour from me, but I come to every home game.

But when it's an away game, it's easier to just stay home, watch the game from home with the family. But we win the next two games. I'll be there for the watch party for the Arkansas State game. Beer on me, that's what I heard. Yeah, at least one beer on me, I don't know, we'll see. If we win the next two games, I will pay for your golf that day before we go to Afterglow. That's what I'm talking about. There's my guy. We're doing that. I might get in trouble, to be fair, but We'll see.

Yeah, honey, I'm going to be gone for eight hours. All day. Just like when we tailgate, but it's important. We might win seven games. Be pretty cool. Yeah. It's, uh, I wouldn't say quite the turnaround, uh, considering the, the, the teams we played to start the year, but, uh, be able to have seven wins, uh, with the strength of schedule we have again, like we've got a football team boys.

So, uh, definitely excited, uh, looking forward, uh, hopefully that golf, uh, before after glow against Arkansas state, but yeah, have a tough game next week against JMU to, uh, two weeks away. Sorry. Next schedule week. I should say. Uh, yeah, but I know the boys are going to be up for it. And I think Marshall's even tougher this season than JMU right now, and they're playing really good ball right now. They are, but it's JVU, and you know how that's going to go.

That game is going to be a fight, and it's going to be a tough one. No matter what, no matter how good or bad they are, every year, that game is going to be tough. All right, so, Gary, what were you about to add there? I was just thinking, like, last year, it was, what's, what a lot of JMU fans would say, the best team that they've ever had. And we went up there, and we're one play away from beating them at their place on Halloween night.

So, yeah, I mean, it's, yeah, I think that the blowout on the first one was kind of, you know, whatever, bad, bad year for us, but when we're on even footing, man, that game could, could become a lot more fun. And I will say this, they've gotten so used to winning their fans, their students all left at halftime to go party in a one position game. I can guarantee our students will not leave at halftime if it's a one game. I don't think our students will leave if we're beating them by 30.

I really don't. Those guys have been awesome this year. Yeah, they have. And I think whoever has reached out to these students to get them hyped up for these games and get them to be involved needs some credit. Um, I know student engagement services is involved there, but they've whatever you've done to get these students excited about football again, Cause there was a, a, a lull there where we weren't really bringing in the students anymore.

We got them re engaged and it's got me excited for if we can turn this to like build on what we are right now and take that next step up, how good our crowds could be. Yeah. Cause next year we won't have a Virginia Tech on the schedule to be like, to hoard all the tickets. I mean, next year bowl game this year with a freshman quarterback. Upstate, I think. Yeah, you're talking about a freshman quarterback coming back next year.

No, I'm saying like, if we, if we win a bowl game this year with a freshman quarterback and then we come in the next year with that type of hype, everybody's going to be, is going to want tickets, want to be here. So, I mean, I, you know, it's an exciting time right now. We do have a quarterback. Yeah. So, I mean, the last few years, we've been kind of a defensive team, right? I think we can all say that. Defense is awesome. You need it to win games. But offense sells tickets.

Yeah. Yeah. And Colton Joseph, if he continues to play like this, he's going to sell a lot of tickets. He's going to sell some tickets. Go ahead, Gary. He's also going to help quite a bit getting skill position players in the portal in a couple of months. That's true. Yeah. If you want to play with a guy, you know, you the ball. Yep. And the offense that we run, you know, coach Decker with, uh, what is this year three, year two.

Yeah. So year two, uh, I mean, I know we had a lot of turnover, but still, you know, seeing what the offense is capable of, you know, now we have those guys, those. Uh, the skill guys in there, uh, making plays again, uh, continue this momentum. And, uh, you know, obviously with the quarterback play we have and, you know, get some more weapons, you know, heading into the next season. Again, it's, you know, I've probably said it 26 times today is, uh, it's exciting.

Obviously our record isn't as exciting as we all want it to be, but, uh, we played some really good football teams. Uh, but you know, the pieces are starting to click, uh, which is, is damn exciting, I'd say. I'll say it again. Uh, to add on to that a little bit is, uh, the coaches got crushed for the recruiting last couple of years. We're finishing like the bottom four teams every year in recruiting.

And it shows you how bad those ratings are, because this is not a bottom four team in the Sunbelt. You can't do that without good recruiting. And we're doing it in a period where we are seeing record turnover every season. So these coaches have a pretty good eye for talent. Yeah. 247 and on three are missing because we're picking up guys that no one knows about and they're having phenomenal years here.

Yeah, it's, uh, I've talked about this with a couple of people like the NIL, the transfer portal, right? Obviously, you have your core recruitment of high school guys, and then you're recruiting in the transfer portal. All the transfers. Uh, you know, I wouldn't say it's a crapshoot, but there are a lot more variables with the team turnover across college football.

I think that's why we have such a more competitive landscape is there is that turnover, but, you know, to your point, Mike, our coaches have something figured out because we had what 60 plus last year. 50 was a 57 this year. New roster faces. Uh, and okay, it took us a couple of weeks to put things together to figure things out. But we have a competitive football team and you look at some of the other teams that go the other way, right?

Sure, they may have a highly touted class, but when they put all the pieces together, they're not fielding a competitive or more competitive football team. Uh, so it's definitely excited to see, you know, two out of two with the high turnover. We're still putting out, you know, highly competitive football team. Uh, you know, I'd say a more competitive football team this year. So, yeah, Uh, you know, the coaches hats off to them.

Sure. The, the press and all of that from a ratings perspective isn't as, uh, you know, glowing, but they're, they're obviously doing something 22, one score games in the last two seasons with one with the worst, one of the worst recruiting classes year to year that shows you not to really look at those ratings at all, because we're proven them wrong. And, you know, 22, one score games. Uh, I think if we looked at.

You know, the prior seven years of, uh, ODU football, uh, you know, how many one score games there were, uh, again, our, our, our sked or like the results haven't been what we all hope for being, you know, ODU fans, but like we're fighting, that's, you know, that's a step in the right direction. Uh, and again, just putting all those pieces together, making all those key plays. Could have gone a lot of different ways with those 22. I don't know what our record is.

I know it's not positive, but 10 and 12 and the ones we made some plays, but like, I think we all know in some of those games, we've watched those plays not be made or those mistakes be made. That just swung it like, but we're right there, which, you know, I'd rather us win, but like, we're right there. And I'll say since 2017 to now, I can imagine we're probably not over 30 one score games. No, probably 22 of those are in the last two seasons.

Yeah. Sounds like an excellent data point to dig up after the call. Doesn't it? Does, um, but I think everyone needs to kind of take a step back and look at what work he's turned this program into these last two seasons from where we were from 2017 to when he was hired. And even like those first two seasons with him, cause there was a lot of games accounts, you'll say that. We had no chance in and now we're in a better conference and every game is a battle.

We're, we're, uh, quickly changing how people look at, look at Old Dominion football. We used to be like, uh, they're probably an easy win. Now everyone's like, all right, we're gonna, they're gonna, they're in for a battle when they know it. Yep. Next step forward is going to be. We can't, we can't play with it. And I feel it coming every time I watch this team play now, because it's close. We're so close to being that team.

But you've, you've seen now what it can be with that Thursday night game against Georgia Southern. Like when we are executing those little things, we can absolutely blow out teams that are not bad. Like Georgia Southern, it's still one loss in the Sunbelt. Right. And we just dismantled them on national TV. So it's like it's there, but before we can ever get to that point, like with what we did with Georgia Southern, it was like, all right, we get ahead.

We went by touchdown, but like six and six and then we lose the ball game. Now it's like, okay, I feel, I would feel really good saying next year, like six and six is going to be that checkbox for like the last three games of the season or something like that. But considering the difficulty of the schedule, the couple of games we dropped, we, we shouldn't have. We still have three games to go accomplish, like all the realistic goals we had.

Win the East, play in the Sun Belt title game, go to a higher end bowl. We can still do those things if we go three and up. Like, we need a little help, but a small amount of help to get there. So I'll take that where the last three games of the season mean something. They're really, really important games.

When you look at a lot of other teams that are allegedly better than us, either at the Group of Five or Power Four area, and They're like, all right, who's going to burn their couple of red shirt games before we go get pounded by 70, you know, to end our season? Yeah. Um, Coles just changed everything. I don't I got it. I said earlier, but it changes the whole outlook of what this program is moving forward.

I don't want to overstate it, but it's nice having a quarterback you can rely on to make big place. Yes, it is. He can throw the ball. He sure can throw the ball and his lack of hesitation on the short throws changes our offense because we all complained about bubble screens for the last few years and now the bubble screen is a useful weapon with cold. Yeah, when you throw a dart, that's what happens. It's a rocket coming out of there and you don't want someone's chest. Yeah, it's.

Yeah. It's now a play that I don't mind seeing. Mm hmm. Yeah, I mean, I think we've said it for a few years, but if you give Isaiah space, he's going to make something happen. And that's what Colton is able to do is to give him space because if the ball takes a little bit longer to get there, then they can get to the they can get in it close at least and make a tackle. But he's got a little bit of space on him. And man, you can fly and. It takes a strong arm to do that on a bubble screen.

I know it's late in the show to say this, but on Tuesday, I will be talking to Ricky and Colton about Colton. So both interviews will be focused on Colton. So if you have any questions that you want asked, send them in, uh, send a DM, send an email, whatever. If it's a good question, I'll include it. If it's a bad question, I'll just act like I never got it. Um, send it in. I want to get answers to questions you guys have as fans.

Um, stuff that I care about might not be something you care about. So send it in. We'll make it work. Um, yeah. The other thing I'll shout out before we hop off of here. The JMU game is also our annual Toys for Tots game. Uh, so be paying attention to all of our social media channels. We'll have a link where you can donate online. You can bring a new unwrapped toy. Uh, to the game against JMU, uh, we'll have the, uh, amphibious vehicles on 49th street.

We'll have a few other pickup locations on Kaufman mall and in the blue lot. Uh, we broke our record again last year. We're just hoping to continue to do that again. There'll be a lot of really cool things on display. So pay attention to our social media, uh, odmonarchist. com. We'll have a lot of info there as we get closer to the game, but start thinking Toys for Tots. It'll be here in two weeks. And before we go, thank you for adding that, Gary.

Um, If you don't want to bring a toy, cash or Venmo is accepted. Um, so just pitch in any way you can, tell your JMU friends that are coming, bring a toy. It's all goes to the kids in the 757, which is the best part of it. When you donate to Toys for Tots with the Monarchist, you know those toys are staying in the 757. So kids that could be ODU fans and students in the future, or even athletes, Are getting those toys. So, but before we go, I want to ask you guys one question.

So we have a bi week this week, which means you get free reign on what games you want to watch. We'll start with Gary because he is, uh, the biggest degenerate of all of us. Uh, he's already got all of his games for Sunday or Saturday lined up. What game are you most excited about on Saturday? Well, I'm going to rule out the JMU Georgia state game. Cause everyone for ODU you should watch that just to get a little advanced scout scout on JMU. I'm gonna go South Carolina at Vanderbilt.

I wanna see what Diego Pavia does against South Carolina. Should be a really fun game and actually mean something in the SEC standing. So, that'll be mine 4 15 on Saturday. SC Vandy. I'm gonna give Jonathan and Jarod another minute because I feel like they're still looking at the schedule. No, I already know who I'm going for. I was looking to see if I had any extras. My entire life have been an Indiana fan. I'm a Colts fan, right? I'm from Indiana. I was born there.

I didn't live there long, but I got a lot of family, the family lived there. We had a room in my house growing up that was painted cream and crimson, and it had a light switch that said, Indiana turns me on. Purdue turns me off. All right. So we're, my dad is a massive Indiana guy. Uh, and Indiana is currently number eight play in Michigan. That's a big one. It's at Indiana. I, I'm excited. I'm probably going to go to my dad's house and watch it with them.

Um, it's going to be interesting next year when we play Indiana, because good Lord, how can I root against them? I've been on my team my whole life, but I'm going to root against them, obviously. My dad, on the other hand, it's going to be a tough sell to get him to root for ODU in that game. So we'll see what happens. But, uh, this weekend, Indiana, Michigan, I'm all in on Indiana right now. Hopefully they can pull out the national championship. That'd be incredible.

Even though their coach is an ex JMU coach. That's a tough one, but it is still Indiana. So for me, that's the one I'm watching. Cignetti. It's frustrating, but like, he's not JNU anymore, so I can live with it. I mean, it's crazy. The guy came in first press conference. They're asking him like, how do you expect to Google me? All I do is win. Like the cockiest response. And he's followed it up with the catch it up, man.

They are dismantling teams And uh, I gotta use this moment to shut up sean asbury's Former monarch is having a fantastic Yeah Terry jones jr. Also out there on that roster as well in the secondary He's not getting much playing time there No, he is not. I think my favorite Cignetti quote so far, though, I think Kim Rivers two or three weeks ago, they went out on the West Coast and played one of those. I think teams is now in the ACC and they were asking about the travel schedule.

Like, does it mess you up going out there? He goes, Oh, no, I try to leave as late as possible. We do our walkthroughs, we fly out there, we get off, we eat dinner, we go to sleep, we wake up in the morning, kick their ass, and come home. Like he said that in a post game press conference, like right after the game. He's like, all right. I mean, as long as he's winning, he can say whatever he wants. And he's a two touchdown favorite over Michigan on Saturday. That's crazy.

My entire lifetime, Indiana is not a football school, but man. A year after they won the national championship, by the way, or right? Michigan, yeah. Yeah, exactly. Not even a full year technically after, right? There's the next season and that's, that's crazy. And then they got Ohio state next week. So are you ready? Oh, I'm ready. First, I will be watching the Indiana game just so I can, uh, you know, talk crap to Jarod, uh, but it never, ever ends. Uh, no, they're playing.

I mean, it's exciting to see what signet he's doing there. Uh, I'll call them the underdog are coming out of left field, right? The, the non football school competing. Uh, but within the Sunbelt Marshall JMU, uh, you know, you could say Marshall has a, uh, easier, uh, team ahead, but just to see how they perform, uh, knowing we have them in the following weeks, but, uh, Ole Miss Georgia is going to be exciting.

I think, you know, Ole Miss lining up the scoreboard and Georgia, uh, still winning, but Having to come on late there. I think that's going to be an exciting game. Uh, curious to see which old miss we get the, uh, in that game. But, uh, man, college football, just pretty much every weekend has just been full of good games, uh, good watching, whether you are interested in the team or not, like, uh, it's just been a crazy year. Uh, and as a fan, uh, it's been a really enjoyable one, I think.

Yeah. All right. Mike, you stole on a monitor there, John, that whole Miss Georgia game is going to be sick. Gary, what would you rather say? Well, I was going to say, I left one bunny on the board. So, Mike, if you don't get it, I'll clean it up after you. All right. So, my Sunbelt Game of the Week is going to be Louisiana at Arkansas State. The winner of this game controls the West. We obviously face Arkansas State.

So, it's going to be a good look into what we're facing in our last week of the season. But, it's just going to be a good game. Because both teams are playing. Very well. Louisiana has been phenomenal considering what they've gone through the last couple of seasons. Um, so I'm just as excited to see that one, but my other game that wasn't mentioned, it's another sec game. This again, I am an SEC fan with my Tennessee connections, Alabama, LSU in Baton Rouge, that game is going to be bonkers.

It's a night game in Baton Rouge, which are always awesome. And, uh, both teams are. Fighting to stay in that race in the sec. Um, it's going to be a good one. I think that's a playoff elimination game. I think the losers out. Yeah, that's fair. Did I get your bunny? That was the bunny. Yes. Yes. You're interested in temple to lane. Yeah. But don't forget. The real Tuesday and Wednesday night football starts this week.

So if you're looking for something to do on Tuesday and ignoring everything else, NACTION is here to help you out. Tuesday and Wednesday is back. By the way, before we end the show, I need to just say Tulsa. What the hell were you doing yesterday? You were favored and you lost 59 What is going on? Uh, I was, I was looking up when he said Tulsa. I was like, who did they play? I didn't, I had no idea. UAB has been terrible this season under Trent Dilfer.

I was going to say, did they just take one for the conference by maybe preventing Trent from getting fired at the end of the year? Cause like Tulsa is already in the tank. I think they're under wind total is going to cash, I think next week. Bye. Man, keep Trent Dilfer around with the great job he's done down there at UAB. They scored 45 in the first half in that game. Yeah, they figured Tulsa's not any good. It's not the Tulsa team we played in Myrtle Beach, that's for sure.

No, they're a lot smaller up front than they used to be. Do you remember how big they looked compared to us in that bowl game? Yeah, massive. It was a lot of guys that tried to walk on in Oklahoma for like two years and then transfer it out. So they had dudes that have been on, you know, Oklahoma's o line program, which has done pretty well in the league. And yeah, I think that three of them were starting on the o line that year. It was crazy.

Yeah. What was the final in that main game yesterday gear? It was like 59 to 14. It was very early. It was seven nothing Maine early against Oklahoma. Believe me, there were some OU tweets going around that were quickly deleted after I think they scored the next 35 unanswered. Tough year in Norman with no O line and no receivers. Yeah, the injuries have not been kind to you guys. Um, well, I'm going to let Jonathan and Jarod have their parting shots here and we'll end the show.

Um, We will start with the kicker. What do you got? I think that this team is good. This team is young and we got a bright future ahead of us. As long as we can keep the guys that we have, these young guys that we have. And I, like I said before in the show, there shouldn't be any overreactions when you lose the app state, especially the way we lost yesterday with those little mistakes that, that really killed us.

Um, I think we're a good football team and obviously we still have a chance to go and win the East. And if we can, uh, if we can knock out these last three games, we'll be right there, even if we don't win the East, if Georgia Southern doesn't end up losing any of their games. Like we win these last three games, we've shown that we are a very, very good football team and we can hang with just about anybody at any given time. And uh, It's exciting. Very exciting future for us.

Can't disagree at all with anything you just said. Jarod, you're a poet. Jonathan, where you got? Uh, you know, I just want to start off with a thank you. First, thank you guys. The monarchist crew, uh, for all you guys do the pride as well. Uh, for laughing Jarod. Um, but also, you know, monarch faithful out there. Uh, and I'm gonna tell that into a call to action.

Uh, you know, we talked about exciting football team, competitive football team, uh, two games at home that really, uh, you know, we'll decide how we talk about this season. I think, you know, we have a great opportunity to achieve some of those high level goals, but we also have an opportunity to be bull eligible. Uh, you know, at the end of it, right. So make, bring the noise, bring the juice, you know, shout out juice, man. Right.

Uh, we have two home games after this bi week, uh, bring the juice. We already know the students are going to bring it. So let's follow after them, make playing at home an asset again, uh, and really support this, uh, competitive and talented team, uh, because again, they're, they're playing exciting football. Let's, uh, let's go out there and show them how excited we are. Yeah. Um, shout out juice, man. The nicest person that is an OD fan. By far the greatest. Yeah. He's awesome.

We are lucky to have him on our side. Oh yeah. Gary, uh, do you have a parting shot? I have one and it's the only thing I had noted that I didn't get to talk about today. Ethan Cheng, kickoff specialist in the books with a solo tackle on Saturday. It was a good tackle as well. I mean, quality, I'll take it. That was, that was the only thing I missed and I figured I would, uh, be doing a disservice if I did not miss it on this episode with.

Jarod and Jonathan seeing the specialist get a solo tackle and glad to see you on mute yourself. Don't you don't even say it glad to see the improvement in, uh, the tackling ability of our kickers. If that's as far as you go, we're good. We can leave it right there. I had 14 tackles in my career. All right. How about that? Okay. That's good. I think eight of which were pushed 'em outta bounds, but I mean, that counts. It's on the books. Nobody else needs to know.

Just don't talk about Georgia State. Shut up, Oh, no. Oh no. All right. So for my parting shots, I will say Brooklyn Brewery, if you are looking for a spokesperson, this Black Ops aged in four roses barrels, you'd knocked it outta the park. Uh, I'm ready to talk business. Uh, secondly, if you enjoy this football team and you're excited about the future with Colton Joseph behind it, join the damn collective already.

I told you guys I would do this NPR style if I have to, but not enough of you are jumping on board. We should be kicking ass in the sunbelt and being the number one team in the sunbelt. How many fans we have and how many successful people we have in this monarch community where we're not quite first yet because not enough of you are jumping on board. What are we doing? We want this to continue to build and you're buying season tickets. You're donating.

Why are you not jumping on board with the collective? I don't get it. Jump on board, support this team, support this program, or we will need more music like that to describe our game. Let it play, Gary. Let it ring out. It'll depress everyone. We don't get more people doing the collective. That's the music you're you watch OD football. The first copyright strike for Old Dominion Monarchist's YouTube account. Join the DM Collective already. What are y'all doing?

You get 10 percent off whenever you come hang out with us at Afterglow. You get to support this program, and coming soon, you're gonna get access to information and content you won't be able to get anywhere else. We haven't announced that yet, but it's coming. Uh oh. Things change, Mox. Thank you. And I don't want your life. Uh, all right. Thank you guys for joining us. Thank you, Jonathan and Jarod, for being such good sports and joining the show.

Shout out to Jonathan for becoming a Hall of Famer. We're really proud of you. Happy to be your friend. Jarod, you belong in the hall with him. I would have loved for you guys to go in together. That would have been such a beautiful moment. That'd have been cool. But we can live. With you eventually getting in, right? I hope so. Thank you guys so much. We have a great time every time we're on. So, uh, ask us anytime we'll be here. You know where to find us. We do. On that note, go Monarchs.

Go Monarchs. Hey, I'm looking forward to golfing before Arkansas State, just saying. It's happening. We're going to. We're winning in two games. All right, Gary, you got a party for us? Go Monarchs.
