Hi, I'm Paige Killian, and I'm passionate about helping busy moms of littles organize and style their life in three simple steps. Living this mom life is incredible, and sometimes completely overwhelming. is stressing about overstuffed drawers never ending mail piles, a mountain of Legos and our kids artwork really what God intended. No way. Getting organized has been a game changer for me, and also my clients. But it has to be simple, or it just won't get

done. So let's simplify the process and clear the clutter to see the blessings God has for us. I know your time is valuable. So thanks for joining me each week for a healthy dose of organization and a whole lot of motivation. Hello, hello. Welcome back to another episode today of the bombs organization motivation podcast. Now, if you happen to see the title of this episode, no Motivation Monday, I would like to let you know that there is going to be a silver lining here. I am going to say

some helpful things. But I wanted to actually I don't know commiserate with you for just a little bit is that the right word? Is that the appropriate word? I'll be looking that word up after this podcast episode is done recording. I wanted to let you know that sometimes, we just can't seem to get motivated. And that's okay. I did an episode episode 114. A little while back

called I need motivation. And I went over to my girlfriend Kelly mobix house if you've been around and listen to this podcast for any length of time, you know, I am a huge Kelly mo Beck fan. She's got a podcast called let's be honest, before we start pretending best title ever. And she has recently had a

Kelly's new knees

knee surgery. And I went to check on her. And I tried to take her a cute little orchid that she couldn't kill. But the funny thing is, whenever I got to her house, I realized that one of the leaves, I only bought it a couple days before I gave it to her had like, totally almost died. And I tried to spin it and be like, so I feel like you're this shining star gold sparkling human and you needed an orchid that had one leaf. It's not bright and green, but shiny and gold. Really, I think

it might have a bit of a disease. But that's okay, because the intention was there, right. And she laughed and we chatted it up all day, I was truly supposed to just go drop off some yummy soups and salads, half dead or good and fun little surprises in a gift bag. And it just turned out we needed each other. We needed each other for a couple of reasons. I have really enjoyed my friend Kelly, for years as a friend, but also as my business coach, she has helped me through thick and

thin. And again, if you've been listening for a while, I started my three E's philosophy. In 2015 2016. When I started my business, I started talking about doing anything you want basically in three simple steps. And she was actually one of the people that helped me come up with the ease the names of the ease. So she's been around forever. And she and I just got

talking, she is doing really well after surgery. And I'm so proud of her because she really went into it sharing a lot on the podcast about how anxious she was about it and nervous. She was about it. And then she got to this place where she was thinking, I need to ask for some support and some help. And she was asking for prayers. And she was really doing the work as far as making sure her health was great going into it. She wanted to make sure that she asked all the questions and so she felt

prepared in that sense. And then also she shared with us that she was going to be getting a second knee surgery as well on the other knee. So she was really wanting to make sure that this one she did everything she possibly could to sort of gear up for surgery number two, which I felt like was just so smart

for her to be thinking ahead like that. And you know, there were days that she really struggled with that because nervousness and you know anxiety can happen and I share all that because when we were talking yesterday, she just said you know I like I got myself so worked up Yes, I did the work and I asked for the prayers and I did a lot of praying myself but then after it was over I was feeling pretty good. I feel like

the recovery is going as well as could be expected. Right now, you know, I have energy, my appetites, good, all that kind of stuff. She was saying, but gosh, if I had just kind of said, I worked myself up for no reason, and I got so nervous and anxious and there's really no reason like it's okay. Then she would have negated the power of prayer that all these people were doing for her that she, in fact was doing for herself as

well. She would have negated the fact that God really move mountains with her surgery to help her not only have all the resources when she was doing that research and asking those questions, and in great communication with doctors and nurses, and people who had had these procedures in the past and all that, she would have negated all of that good stuff. And that effort that she put into it, if she just was like, you know,

this was no sweat. Not that it was no sweat. There's definitely some recovery that goes with it. But I just said to her, I was like, you know, you're really right. And I said, I have been crazy in my head lately about how do I this is sort of a hard pivot, but I'll tie it together. Let's see if that happens. How do I pivot my business from being this professional organizer and running my own business? And podcasting, and

author of a book? How do I pivot all of that, take all of that stuff, turn it into being a public speaker, I really feel passionately about sharing some of these things that I've learned over the years with lots of not just busy moms of littles, but lots of other people as well. And being able to get organized to really sort of help people save people from themselves sometimes, the way that organization has saved me

from myself. And I said, I just am struggling with this motivation to move forward to really work on those parts to move my business forward. What is going on with me? Like, why is this such a struggle? I don't have just this motivation. I have this desire, but I'm really struggling. So we just dove in. And she's like, Girl, I'm so glad you're here, because I'm taking off of work technically, because I'm supposed to just be focused on recovery. But she goes, I am missing it. I'm

missing that coaching aspect. Let's dive in. Oh, let's talk about it. And it was so interesting. We had this really great conversation about motivation and getting motivated to do things kind of breaking through whatever those barriers are that stop us from moving forward on these things that we really do desire. Okay, it is true. I'm not talking about how do I get motivated to do something that I just really don't feel like doing? You know, today, I knew that I wanted to

Today's the day

batch record some podcast episodes, and I got a Bible study later on tonight with my mom life crew. And I knew that today was the day that I needed to get some stuff done. Because originally I was supposed to go organize for a client and she had a big presentation this week. And she just said, You know what? I feel like I need to focus on the presentation. Can we do some organizing later I said, Sure, no problem. That happens all the time in my business. It's not a problem. I

prepare for that. Because oftentimes, I work with busy moms of littles and like kids get sick at the last minute. Literally, before I hit record on this podcast episode, I'm getting an email from the nurse's office at school saying that poor Duke got a zipper to the face when someone was slinging around one of their sweaters, their you know, school hoodie, and he got a zipper that hit really close to his eye and

just the ice pack just really was not doing the trick. And so the nurse reached out so she let me know she's like, alright, we did the ice, later came back did a little Tylenol. I think he's okay, I think the eye is okay, I'm looking at the eye. And since I got the Go ahead, that's the I was okay. I'm like, You know what, I'm just going to do this real quick podcast episode. And we thankfully just live very close to the school. And I said, and I'm on my way. So they're

like, Okay, great. And I know that things can come up. And I know that that can be something that keeps us from just not being motivated to do what it is we need to do. Because especially as busy moms, like all these other things pop into our lives that we either weren't planning for or you know, we know that these things are gonna come up, and they just get in the way and we keep sort of pushing those desires that we're having off to the side, and we do that thing that pops up right

in front of us. And, you know, scrolling Instagram, because I was avoiding doing some of these things that I'm supposed to be doing right now. You know, reaching out to different companies to say hey, I'm a speaker. I'd love to speak at your next event. Here's my information. Here's my one cheat, here's my speaking real, you know, instead of doing all

that I chose to sit in my car. And as I'm in my car scrolling to avoid doing the thing, because it's just a no Motivation Monday and PS, I am recording this on a Tuesday, technically not a Monday, if you're here to judge, you're in the wrong place. If you're here to understand, pull up a seat. So I'm watching on reels. I'm watching this mom talking about

how one of her favorite places on earth is in her car. Because it's quiet alone, I should say that wait, there's a very important distinction, alone in her car is one of her favorite places to be because she's got multiple kids, there are no kids asking her for SNAP, or arguing and fighting with each other. Or saying that they need something else while she's trying to do something. And she said, It's temperature controlled. The hum of the AC or the heat in the car feels a little bit like spa

music to her just kind of helps her zone out. And I really identified with that because I thought when I don't feel motivated, I can easily just go sit in my car and kind of hide out. And I know some of you moms who are listening, totally identify with that. And I just really got to thinking and then

What stops us from being motivated?

talking more with Kelly about what is it that stops us from being motivated? How can we get motivated to do stuff? And she told me something really interesting is that we really can't motivate other people. And I said, Well, gosh, Cal, my

podcast title is mom's organization motivation. And she said, Well, yes, because what you do on your podcast is you inspire people to get organized by way of motivating themselves, because they have the information that you've given them, the tools, the tricks, the systems, that you lay out for

them in order to get organized. Or if we're talking about mom life, and just different things that are going on in our lives, it's maybe not necessarily a specific organization episode that day, I'm sharing stories about what's going on in my life, or I'm having amazing guests on to share things that are happening in their lives or businesses that would be

advantageous for my listeners to hear, right. So she said, what you do is you inspire other people by giving them all this information that they need and encouragement to know that they can do things themselves. And she goes on, I know, you're always telling people that they can ask for help. If they can't do it themselves, they can absolutely ask for help. But she said at the end of the day, the motivation has to come from the person who's getting it done. And that was eye opening. For

me. Like I said, if you've listened for a while I share stuff that Kelly says and has said for years, like when she told me there's no such thing as balance. And I was like, that just blew my mind. Because I remember the days of every other thing on social media and out in the world saying like, gotta have that work life balance. And truly, she opened up my eyes to the fact that a lot of times there is no balance. And you can

shoot for harmony, where you're asking people for help. Because this is a season where you need to be focused on your business or a project in your home you're wanting to work on or really being home and being present for your family or you name it, whatever it is you're working on. And then other times, you are a little more available to help other people. And that is

Working in harmony

when you can work in harmony. And you could say, Gosh, you were amazingly helpful these days when I needed this. I want to help you How can I help you? And sometimes it starts with you where you're the one that needs to say, hey, look, I would love to help you with something. What can I do to take this off your plate? How can I help you? How can I inspire you so you can get motivated to do something that you want to work on. And then hopefully that'll come back to you as well as when that

recipient sees and feels how great it is to be held out. They will be willing to help you as well. So, you know, I just wanted to share with you today on this Monday, or this Tuesday or any day of the week. If you're not feeling motivated. First, I wanted to share with you that episode so you can go to my shownotes just scroll down wherever you're listening to

this episode and see the show notes. And there will be episode 114 And it's called I need motivation and in that I actually was motivated before I hopped on this episode to just go back and take a look at what I shared in that episode. And I talked about how sometimes it's the season of rest. Sometimes it is not the season To be motivated to do a bunch of stuff

because you need to rest and that is okay. I also talked about the three E's philosophy, which is something that I have used and tested and it is tried and true, it is all about getting organized or focusing on whatever it is you want to accomplish in three simple steps. So that overwhelm does not cause paralysis by analysis. I also talked about the 1% rule, which is just shooting for 1% better getting 1% more into a project. So often, it's the starting something that is the

hardest part. And I talk a lot about the 1% rule and how shooting for 1% inevitably leads to way more percentage of growth or of moving forward on that project. And I would love for you to go back and listen to that as well. But I just I wanted you to know that if motivation feels like a struggle for you right now. And you just are not motivated not only go back and listen to that episode, because it does actually give

you tangible tips. But I just wanted to share with you that it really felt a lot like that was kind of new information or a new perspective where I'm not necessarily motivating you to do something, I am encouraging you. And I am giving you the resources that you may need to move forward with a project. But the motivation has to come from within a they're quick reminder that now there are four ways to get my book. If you head over to Amazon, you can search up I've got your girlfriend, why getting

organized and living this mom life is not a solo mission. You can now get it on the Kindle app, paperback hardcover, and the audio book is finally here. So if you've been enjoying this podcast episode, I have a feeling you might love the audiobook. Thanks so much for making it a best seller. And now back to the show. I will tell you that even before I hopped on this podcast episode, the zoom to do this recording to share this information with you. I was thinking, I don't really feel

that motivated today. And so I thought, Gosh, I'm going to take my own advice. What is 1% that I could shoot for better toward moving along to getting this podcast episode recorded? Because I do feel like it's important. And it really landed on me hard yesterday. And guess what my 1% was? The first thing I did is I made up my dang bed. Now I know that might sound weird. What in the world does that have to do with getting a

podcast episode up and running? Well, I'll tell you, it made me feel like I accomplished something productive instantly. When I did that, it also made me say okay, Paige, there's no climbing back into bed for you today, there is getting something done today. Whether that's getting this episode done, whether that's following up with some amazing guests.

Spoiler alert, I have some incredible guests coming, I already have three, I've taken a little bit of a break from booking guests lately, because I just like to hop on at my own pace and just share some things that are happening in real time. But I have been bombarded with some incredible and super convincing pitches lately. I have three guests who are going to be coming on in the next month or so who I've never met. But they reached out to me and I looked at their businesses,

several of them have podcasts of their own. Several of them have guested on other podcasts and I got to listen to them. And they are magic, they are bringing some incredible information. And dare I say they are going to inspire you to get motivated to do some things. So be here for that. I was talking about making up my bed and how that really sort of set the wheels in motion to getting this episode recorded today. Well, then, after I did that, I had to do the next thing. And that was opened my

laptop and set up my little chair. Thankfully, the setup is really simple in my bedroom, I pulled my side chair over, I opened my laptop, I opened my windows. And then what I can sometimes look a little scary when I get all that natural light on me. If I have not actually you know, showered, washed my hair, put on a little makeup curl those lashes, you know what I mean? And I thought, Gosh, I'm going to do that. I'm

going to get that motivation flowing. And then I'm going to open the laptop and as soon as I hit zoom, I'm going to be like, Ooh, this is cringy she looks scary. This is not going to be one of those episodes. That makes it on YouTube. I'm gonna need to let my Simon know about that because he does all of my YouTube production videos, I'm gonna need to reach out and be like, don't even go near this episode because I don't want

anyone to see what I look like today. And I thought, You know what, I have made up my bed, I have gotten my laptop open and my chair set up. And I have really got a great idea for this episode, because I think a lot of people who are listening today totally resonate with no Motivation Monday, really not feeling motivated, and really just wanting to know how we pull ourselves out of that. I owe them a little bit of pulling

Get out of your rut!

myself together. And so I went into the bathroom, and I just decided to at first brush my teeth, that feels like a win. I like to think that that happens every day and multiple times a day. But I'm going to be real. Sometimes, I'm just flying out the door to get the kids to carpool in the mornings. And suddenly, I realized three hours later, I never brush my teeth.

That's gross. I will tell you, little mom hacks. If you were around a couple of weeks ago when I shared the fact that I put my makeup on in the car in the front seat with an organic tampon because I decided that it was a good idea to leave my sponges behind accidentally, and then get to the parking lot before I went into my mom life meeting. And I didn't have anything to apply my makeup, right, I was going to try and

save time and energy by not doing my makeup at home. But I was just going to jump in the car, get the kids to carpool and then was going to have a little time to put it on. So yeah, I learned a new mom hat that day on my own your organic tampons that are in your travel makeup that work just as well as the good spongy thing on your face. So there's some information for you if you didn't hear that episode a few weeks ago. Also, can I tell you I know you're listening mom, hey, girl. My mom

just came to visit that was a lot of fun. And she said that she thought about staging a little, you know, like FaceTime chat for us before she got on the plane to come to be like, Oh yeah, I'm just, you know, just getting ready for the trip. And then seeing her pat on her concealer with a flattened tampon with the string hanging down on camera. I was like, Mom, you're too much. Also, thanks for listening to the podcast. She's the best. So with those mom hats, I'll tell you, I just

thought I am going to go into the bathroom. And I am going to start putting on some makeup. But this time, not with a tampon because I think you only make that mistake once and you from now on make sure you have lots of sponges in your travel makeup that and I just thought you know, I'm going to do anything and everything I possibly can today to help myself out. And I'm going to show up the way that I feel like my listeners deserve. And who knows, maybe this will make it onto YouTube.

I don't know, maybe this will be the episode that just goes viral because people totally relate to not having motivation. And then suddenly, it's become a trend to put your makeup on with a tampon. I don't know. You never know Right? on that. No, you never know what can happen when these things that you've been putting off in your life because you are feeling like you have this desire, but you lack the motivation. You never know what could end up happening. When you just take the leap and do 1%

toward that goal. You never know your world could change. Something amazing can happen. I never planned on writing a book and getting it published. I never planned on starting a podcast I never planned on leaving my amazing teaching job that I loved so much to start a professional organizing business. I never planned on doing those things. When those ideas popped into my head. I just remember thinking, Wow, is

Fighting the overwhelm

this even something that I want to attempt to do that feels like a lot that feels really overwhelming? How will I ever get motivated to do that? I talk about tech being a mega hang up all the time for me. And even the fact that I'm struggling right now pivoting my business and reaching out to some places to say hey, I'm a speaker, and I would love to speak at your next

event or your next conference. And for some reason, can you believe I am getting hung up because it's a matter of putting together an email creating a template so that I can reach out to all these different businesses and I'm making sure I'm crafting these emails appropriately. So I can send them out to people, and really talk about how what it is that they're doing is impacting me, and how I'd love to be able to contribute to that if they felt like my message would jive with

theirs. Can you believe that me feeling like, oh gosh, what if they asked me to create a PowerPoint presentation? I've done that before. But it's stopping me in my tracks. How in the world? Do I move past that? Well, first, you get somebody to talk to you about it. And I talked to my friend about it. And Kelly and I are going to be getting together in the next

couple of days. Because we are going to do that next step for me, I'm going to make my list, I'm going to figure out who is I want to reach out to I'm going to have those email addresses. I'm going to have my fancy email crafted. And actually, it's not even going to be that fancy, it's going to be pretty straightforward and easy. I'm going to attach my little one sheet that has all the good info in it. What is it that you need to do to get motivated? Do you need to start with simply making

up your bed? Do you need to start with simply opening up your laptop and doing something that you've been putting off? Do you need to pick up the phone and hire someone to help you with something that you've been putting off? What is 1% toward your goal that you could put in today? And maybe listen, maybe it's an organization project that just feels completely over whelming? If you need my help, do you know that I do virtual organizing sessions, I always say you would be shocked at what

we can get done in one hour over a zoom. Absolutely reach out to me, if you are struggling with something, I do not want that to be a struggle for you anymore. If you are lacking that motivation, get on a call with me. Let's have a chat. And let's figure out how in three simple steps we can accomplish the goal that you really want to see achieved. All right, let's do it. I am here for you. Because I know that feeling of just not

being motivated. And sometimes we just need a girlfriend to get on a zoom with or a phone call with or jump into the car and go to happy hour or have a cup of coffee and say this is what's going on in my mind. And I need motivation. And they can offer some encouraging words, and they can offer some inspiration. And then it's up to you to take that first step. And I can tell you

that first step really does seem to be the hardest. And I can also tell you that once you do that first step, it's oftentimes not quite as scary or as big, or as overwhelming a task as you

might think it is. Because when we shoot for just 1% better, and we make the decision that we're going to simplify whatever it is that we're wanting to accomplish, it takes that big huge stress out of the equation, because you're just shooting for one teeny tiny little thing that you can do, that you can accomplish, then it's going to end up being that motivation that kicks in that's going to propel you toward the next 1% And then the next 10% And the next 50%. So I just want you to

feel completely validated today. If you are just like man, I cannot pull myself out of this. No Motivation Monday, you know, Monday's are supposed to be the day that we jump out of bed and get the kids to school and then conquer the world. Right? Not always and that's okay. It's totally okay. It is relatable, and it's normal. And we have to find the motivation from within.

So I'm gonna say a little prayer for you today. And feel free to say a little prayer for me, I can use it, let's all say a prayer for my friend Kelly, because she's doing so great. And I am so proud of her. And she is going to have some amazingly healthy knees soon. And I think we're just gonna have to go out dancing. I think that's what is going to be on the docket on the docket. Is that a thing? Two people say on the docket? I don't know. But maybe we should start. I'm gonna

look that word up too after this. Okay, I hope you guys are having a great day. And maybe you're feeling a little more motivated today. If you need a little bit more inspiration to get motivated today. Do check out that episode 114 go back and listen to it. It's gonna break some things down and give you a little bit more of a tangible tip sort of a an episode versus this crazy episode that I'm sharing with you today. Okay, I will talk to you next week. And you guys get excited for these

amazing guests who are coming. I cannot wait to share with you you a little bit more about them. I will talk to you next week. Go make your bed, go open your laptop, go get started on that organization projects and keep me in the loop. And if you need more backup, please reach out I would love to do a virtual organizing session with you. All right. Until then, I'll talk to you soon. Bye. Thanks for listening to another episode of
