Hi, I'm Paige Killian and I'm passionate about helping busy moms of littles organize and style their life in three simple steps. Living this mom life is incredible and sometimes completely overwhelming. Is stressing about overstuffed drawers, never-ending mail piles a mountain of Legos and our kids' artwork.
Really what got intended? No way. Getting organized has been a game changer for me and also my clients, but it has to be simple or it just won't get done. So let's simplify the process and clear the clutter to see the blessings God has for us. I know your time is. So thanks for joining me each week for a healthy dose of organization and a whole lot of motivation.
Hello. Hello. Happy almost New Year. If you are actually joining me the week that this episode is airing. Oh my goodness. 2023 is upon. Did you ever think we'd get here when we were in the middle of 2020 ? Some days I did not. . Oh my goodness. That was such a crazy time, and it got me thinking about this idea of setting goals.
Now listen, I love setting goals. I really do. I love a to-do list. I love being able to check things off the list, but I learned something. From a friend of mine, a dear friend of mine, you've heard her on this podcast before, and she will be coming back again as a guest on the Mom's Organization Motivation Podcast, so stay tuned for that.
My dear friend and coach, Kelly Mo Beck, she has talked to me and lots of her listeners on her podcast. Let's be honest, before we start pretending all about setting outcome, The reason that she really likes talking a lot about setting outcomes versus just the typical goals that we might set, especially going into a new year, right?
Because that's the thing, you gotta set all the new goals, you gotta do all the things, and you gotta make sure you execute them perfectly. Implement all these new, healthy things in your life. And making sure you're doing all the things on the home front in your business, whatever else you're doing in the community, if you're serving at your church or your kid's school or wherever, we gotta implement all these things and we gotta set these big goals and we gotta do them all perfectly.
Otherwise, it's all a bust. Right. Strong. One of the things that Kelly has talked about a lot is how outcomes and setting those versus just sort of your rigid goals, they really offer you this feeling, a feeling that you're hoping to achieve. Not so much just the end goal, because when you have the goals, those are great.
A huge fan of goals, and I'll continue to set them, but I'm gonna do them a little more mindfully, a little bit more in the way that Kelly suggests. And we're really gonna be focusing on the feeling of the outcomes that we want to see happen. I look back at the year 2020, and if I'm not mistaken, the year 2020, and I've said it on past podcast episodes, so I'll have to go back and listen myself, but I believe it was the year 2020 that I decided my word for the year was going to be patience.
Patience, you guys. I said that word in the brand new January year, 2020. And boy did that get tested. We all had to be beyond patient, didn't we? Well, That was that feeling that I wanted. That was what I really was hoping to see happen in that year. That was the outcome that I wanted with all the little different goals that I was setting and some of the big, lofty goals that I was setting.
I really. I wanted to have that feeling of what it would be like if I were more patient, if I were more patient with myself, with my kids, just with the happenings of life. I really wanted patience to be something in my life at that time. Well, I am happy to report that. I do feel like during that time I was a much more patient person, believe it or not.
You know, I think that probably came from not feeling like we had to rush from one activity to the next activity because we were all sort of shut in. We were quarantining during that time. Not just social distancing, but full on quarantining. It's interesting. You know, I think when we do set these goals or now when we do set these outcomes that we wanna see and we are really intentional about the feeling, the vibe that we want to happen in the new year, we really can see the blessings that are all around us.
More so than if we sort of just stick to making sure we hit those goals with complete accuracy. And you know, that was another thing that happened in 2020, is that if I had set a goal, because I had been working on my book that I had written around the time of 2018, what if in 2020 I said, I want that book published.
I want that to be my goal that I set. Well, look, that's not a bad goal, right? I would've missed some of the huge blessings that year that happened to us in 2020. If I had just said, I'm setting this goal of getting my book published out into the world, and I wouldn't have left room. Then for the amazing blessing of starting the podcast when Crazy 2020 Insanity hit a roundabout march, and I thought, you know what?
The book needs to be put on hold. , I need to start the podcast now. I can't be going on book tours. I can't be traveling the world. I can't be pitching to traditional publisher houses. I, I can't be doing that. Like, that's not what is here in this world. That is not what's gonna happen and that's not the outcome that I wanna see is trying so hard against all of these crazy odds in what's going on in my life right now.
I really did not want to see. The book fizzle out, but I knew it wasn't the right time. And so that is when the podcast was born because I knew if I'm feeling like this, maybe other people are feeling like shut in and living on top of each other right now, and they wanna be more organized. Like I was getting fiercely organized in my house because we had two adult parents who were working from home, two kids who were doing all of the Zoom recordings and all of that kind of stuff, and virtual learning.
And it was really important for me to. Continue to serve my clients where I normally had gone into their homes and I just couldn't, couldn't do it anymore physically in person, but I could do it by starting a podcast and sharing some things that I wanted to implement in my own home and things that I was doing in my clients.
and I believe that's why it was so successful, because it was something that was needed. Then I had to pivot at that time. That's what people needed. Then I put the book on hold and because my goal, my outcome wasn't just get the book published, but it was to serve and then to be patient and have all of those feelings that went along with that.
I felt like 2020 in a lot of ways was one of my most successful years in my business. How crazy is. Hey there. Quick reminder that now there are four ways to get my book. If you head over to Amazon, you can search up. I've Got You Girlfriend. Why Getting organized and living this mom life is not a solo mission.
You can now get it. On the Kendall app, paperback hard cover, and the audiobook is finally here. So if you've been enjoying this podcast episode, I have a feeling you might love the audiobook. Thanks so much for making it a best seller. And now back to the show
then 2021. Guess what word I picked? Trust. I had to trust the process because I thought, well, I had no plans at starting a podcast, and now I've started this podcast and it was doing really well, and I thought, what do I do now? Do I need to be working on the book? . Well, I needed to really nurture what was working at the time.
That was the podcast that was getting back to being very present for my family, that was working on some things that we needed to do internally at home, and that's what I did in 2021. And then in 2022, I gotta tell you, I don't remember if I picked a word or. I should definitely do that this year. You guys should pick a word too.
Message me and tell me what your words are. I need some inspo. . I need, I need word inspiration. I need outcome inspiration for this year. I remember in 2022 thinking I've really focused on my family a really prioritize that. The podcast was doing amazing. I was back in people's homes. I was so, so grateful and glad to be organizing again, and I thought, you know, I would like to see some more forward progress on my book.
That was the outcome that I wanted. I didn't know what the end goal was, but guess what happened? 2022, the book got published. and it is continuing to do well After hitting bestseller the day it got released before I could even have breakfast again. If I had put so much pressure on myself in 2020 to get the book published, if that had been my end goal, I would've missed the blessings.
Not only in that year, but in the next few years. I am so excited for whatever is gonna come this year. I am so excited and I don't really know what that's gonna look like, but I am gonna set some intentions. I am gonna set some outcomes. Certainly there will be some goals along the way so that I can check some of those things off the list and feel productive, like I love, but I'm not gonna put so much weight on setting those goals that I don.
Enjoy all of the little things happening around me and that I miss perhaps what is the most important, which is God's plan for me. And I have learned it is always better than the things that I have planned for myself. So hopefully this is just a little bit of inspiration for you as you move into the new year.
And listen, if you're listening to this episode in April or May, Or if you're listening to this episode a year after it's come out, first of all, thank you and please pass it on if it was helpful. But also make sure that, you know, don't put so much pressure on starting at the beginning of a year, because we all know that that could be something that is just not in God's timing.
Maybe your fresh start happens. In the summer, maybe your fresh start happens today before we even get to the new year. Don't put so much pressure on those end goals. Just make sure you are really leaning into whatever outcomes it is you wanna see, and appreciating all the blessings along the way. Happy.
Final days of the holidays, and I hope that whatever you are planning to do in this next year, you will leave room for whatever God's plan is for you. I'm gonna say some prayers for you and I hope you'll do the same for me. I hope that you know that this is not a solo mission. On that note, I'm going to go ahead and tell you that you are going to, Next week's episode.
