This promised covenant from God means we can trust God has a purpose for our lives just like Abraham! GOD CALLS A SINFUL, PAGAN MAN TO FOLLOW HIM

 

GOD’S PROMISES ARE SO RICH – THEY STAGGER OUR IMAGINATION     In the book of Joshua it says “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Your fathers, including Terah, the father of
Abraham and the father of Nahor, dwelt on the other side of the river
(Euphrates) in old times; and they served other gods.”

In the book of Acts the disciple Stephen tells us: “The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in
Mesopotamia, BEFORE HE DWELT IN HARAN, and said to him, ‘Get out of
your country and from your relatives, and come to a land that I will show you.’
Then he (Abram) came out of the land of the Chaldeans and dwelt in Haran.
And from there, when his father was dead, he moved him to this land in which
you now dwell. ”

WHAT IS GOD’S PURPOSE FOR MAKING THE ABRAHAMIC COVENANT?

1) TO MAKE ISRAEL GOD’S OWN SPECIAL PEOPLE
2) TO REVEAL THE ONE TRUE GOD TO ALL NATIONS
3) TO BRING JESUS, THE SAVIOR OF MANKIND, INTO THE WORLD

The CONTENTS of the Abrahamic COVENANT

1) A PERMANENT HOMELAND (Israel)
2) A GREAT NATION / PEOPLE (Jews)
3) PERSONAL BLESSING AND GREATNESS (Abram / Jews)
4) DIVINE PROTECTION (Against Anti-Semitism)
5) DIVINE BLESSING UPON ALL NATIONS (Jesus)

And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith,
preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations
shall be blessed.” So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing
