Episode description

At the time of recording episode 1 of the Miss Organized Show, the world is going through a global pandemic aka COVID-19.

Now more than ever, it's important that we learn to get through this time with less stress and more calm.  Approaching life from a more calm perspective will make you more effective at finding solutions and making the tough decisions many of us are faced with making right now.

Calming Strategies For the Brain

Decision-making, an executive function in the brain is compromised when the body activates the fight, flight, or freeze mechanism due to stress and/or overwhelm.  Decision-making is a vital skill to have in today's world to navigate during these chaotic times which is why it's even more crucial to maintain a calm brain as much as possible.

Three techniques to calm the brain:

  • Brain dumping - get the information out of your head to manage it better
  • Identify your stressors (time, money, people?)
  • Turn your  I don't knows into questions to gain better clarity with the problem

Calming Strategies for the Body

  • Grounding the body first can help calm the mind
  • "Cater to your senses" by giving your senses what they need to calm down
    • Your body temperature can be causing you stress
    • Listen to music or comedy to lift your mood
    • Use something that smells good like incense or essential oils
    • Pay attention whether you are stressed by the feel of something like an itchy sweater
  • Drink water (MOST IMPORTANT!!!!)
