Episode description

It feels like there’s a new fad diet that emerges every single day, and as a weight loss practice, we are constantly trying to combat the restrictive, all-or-nothing, supplement-heavy programs that are out there. In this episode, TMN Intern Laura Anderson joins us to help debunk some of the most popular diets at the moment, plus we unpack Mindy Kaling’s weight loss and what she claims she did to achieve this transformation.

Some key takeaways from this episode include:

  • Intermittent fasting can be really restrictive to certain lifestyles if you go out with friends or family outside of your “eating windows,” and it also encourages you to ignore your hunger cues during your fasting windows. Neither of these are sustainable long term!

  • Diet and exercise programs like E2M don’t leave much flexibility for incorporating foods and exercises you enjoy. These all-or-nothing programs can be discouraging if you have a bad day or bad week.

  • There are a lot of programs out there that have their participants take several different supplements throughout the day for nutrients and appetite suppression. Instead of taking supplements, we encourage our clients to get their nutrition from whole food sources like meat and vegetables, which have lots of fiber and protein to keep you full.
